122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A map of the crypto coin landscape evolution. The basic ABC's on: November 28, 2014, 01:26:13 AM

Where's Myriadcoin?

This map is made about coins with large marketcaps, or coins that haven't come out yet but it can be expected that they will have a large marketcap based by current developments.

When Myriadcoin is worth more, I will definitely like to add it.

Fair enough.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Myriad [1st Multi-PoW] | REQUIRED UPDATE 0.9.2.7 on: November 27, 2014, 11:01:51 PM
New MyriadSwitcher version 0.2.27 released

to adopt the new API.
also replaced Mintpal with Cryptsy for exchange rates

Very nice. I'll update the subreddit with this but Reddit does not allow link shorteners. Can I have a different link?

BTW, Glad to see you're still around!

No need to update the link Neuro, it's always the same one. I just update the contents with new versions when a new one needs to be released.
Keep it up guys, you're doing a great job

best of luck!

Oh ok, gotcha!

127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PoS is far inferior to PoW - why are so many people advocating switching to PoS on: November 22, 2014, 02:59:29 AM
Myriadcoin's multi-PoW framework helps with the decentralization of mining that some of you may be concerned about. More than you think, actually.

I agree. I have been touting Myriadcoin as one of the biggest innovations in the PoW cryptocurrency world. It is definitely a step forward. Unfortunately, it still doesn't change the fact that a lot of electricity and processing power is wasted in the process. Pretty much all scientists agree global warming is real and PoW only accelerates that. I see PoS or a variant of it as being the ideal solution for consensus mainly for this reason. Why increase emissions unnecessarily simply to reach decentralized consensus when it is not needed because PoS is sufficient at performing the same job? Also.. all of the processing power could actually be used to do something useful to society instead of simply securing a block chain, such as solving cancer or assisting other scientific research. Primecoin is a good example of a PoW algo that is actually useful to society.

These are my biggest concerns about PoW, not the centralization of it. All systems.. PoS and PoW.. inevitably tend towards centralization eventually. PoW tends towards centralization in mining pools and large farms setup with cheap power which utilize the economies of scale ASICs provide. PoS tends towards centralization with the need for check points to prevent certain attacks (or at least in the current variants of PoS.) DPoS works on the realization that all systems inevitably tend towards centralization, ad it gives you a way for stake holders to control that centralization. Stake holders choose who becomes a delegate, with PoW you cannot choose who secures the block chain.. whoever buys mining power can do it. This helps keep nefarious actors out. Also, you can vote in developers and people creating important core services for the coin as delegates to compensate them for doing so. Therefore, a DPoS coin can hire employees that work for the cryptocurrency... PoW can obviously only do this via donations. The use of only 101 delegates allows block times to be reduced to a little as 10 seconds and process many transactions a second.. something that is very hard to achieve (maybe impossible) with PoW. There are many benefits of DPoS over PoW in my mind which far outweigh the highly unlikely attack vectors, and that is why I support it over PoW alternatives.

Question: How much energy is used to keep all the banks in the world operational? Keeping the computers running, building the banks, people wasting gas driving to the banks to take out money, keeping the lights on 24/7 so cameras can record people trying to break in at night, etc. I bet you it's a fuckton. What if a world existed where no banks existed but money was transacted on a PoW blockchain? Does the energy concern matter as much in this context?

It's been a while so perhaps some new ideas have subconsciously materialized inside your heads and are waiting to be scribed down.

Advantages of multi-PoW and is it enough?

A) Better blockchain security (Note: I feel this must be proven more over time since nobody has given a full-fledged technical explanation of why it's superior. HOWEVER, as this year's crop of altcoins try to stay relevant through the winter and gain momentum heading into 2015, a big factor is protection against 51%ers and timewarpers by those who are greedy or just simply don't want to see any other altcoins succeed. If Myriad's blockchain is so well-armored against attacks on a theoretical rise to the top, that in and of itself is worth it's weight in gold bitcoin.)

B) Decentralization of mining. 5 algorithms with equal importance. SHA-256d, Scrypt, Skein, Qubit, and Myriad-Groestl. All algorithms are arguably as cryptographically sound as you'll need for a cryptocurrency, but should one fail it won't be as catastrophic as a cryptocurrency relying on 1 algorithm failing.

C) ASICs and GPUs can coexist better. SHA256 ASICs do not compete for the same Myriadcoins that Skein GPU miners mine despite both solving Myriadcoin blocks. Should Myriad become worthwhile for the manufacturing of Skein, Myriad-Groestl, and Qubit ASICs, this point will become obsolete but will likely result in a new advantage...

D) ...More competitive ASIC prices across all 5 algorithms. A few large companies have dibs on SHA256d ASICs, but should ASICs come out for Myriad's other algorithms it will likely provide a more diversified production environment that should result in companies undercutting other companies in price. A lot of assumptions here, but it is not unreasonable to think this would be the case.

E) A sidechain paradise. Part of this description can be found in my write-up on merge mining and block "tipping" , something that still hasn't been utilized, however. But 5 algorithms means plenty of flexibility when it comes to creating an innovative, comprehensive financial platform.

Any more?

Reminder for anyone new to Myriad: We have a very unique p2pool system in place (http://myriad.p2pool.geek.nz/merge) and it will be used in the future specifically to develop my "Multi-vPoW" concept: http://coinbrief.net/myriadcoin-merge-mining/

If you haven't read it yet, give it a quick read and hopefully you'll get some ideas yourself for some great ways to innovate through the Myriad Platform.
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why POW is dead. on: November 13, 2014, 11:57:49 PM
POW is only evolving - see Myriadcoin.

It always amazes me that PoW fanboys never give a flying f*ck about Myriadcoin. I mean if they truely believed in PoW, they would be supporting Myriadcoin, because it's the most secure of all PoW cryptos, but no, all they do is care about their mining profits, that's why PoW is dead, because miners dump most of what they mine, and that's not going to change.

I can definitely see the point of miner dumping, and I can definitely imagine POW innovation where miner dumping is offset or even minimized. I wrote an article on that here: http://coinbrief.net/myriadcoin-merge-mining/

I think some of the Myriad neglect is just due to people overlooking it or not being exposed to it yet. A lot of the cryptocurrency business here is just "pick a coin or dev it and then do all you can to pump the value then exit". There are the greedy people, tech people, and idealists here. I think Myriad attracts the latter 2 and it is helping the foundation of Myriad continue to progress.

You would think a lot of the new altcoins today will have a hard time "getting to the top" and "staying at the top" if Bitcoiners see it as a threat. Once the dust settles you will see (in my opinion) Myriad rise to the top since it has robust protection against just some huge Bitcoin farm overtaking it while the nethash remains "relatively" low. This is how you cement your path onwards and upwards when starting amidst a craze of coin launches, scams, and different style of blockchain securities.

If you want to see some more of the beauty of Myriad's multi-POW system, just check out this merged-mining p2pool hub for Myriad's 5 algorithms. This is how foundations are built and we push people to p2pool mine over regular pool mining from the start. Bitcoin is heavily reliant on centralized pools to survive. If we begin a p2pool culture with Myriad ON TOP of it's 5 decentralized mining algorithms....I think we have a better future in store. Of course, this isn't going to happen overnight. But I like to think we are ahead of the curve and people will see the virtues of Myriad.

PS This isn't a sheep/sock-puppet post. Myriad has no premine, no instamine, no IPO or whatever.

The Time-Warp Attack Revisited: Questions

A) When did it start happening and can we see this on an explorer?

B) It did not fork Myriadcoin yet time-warp attacks have forked other mono-PoW coins in the past. Do we have cited occasions for this?

C) Can someone do a write-up of how Myriadcoin successfully survived the time-warp attack and how our multi-PoW mechanism minimized the damage? I think this is a tremendous selling point.

D) Can time-warp attacks still be performed? If they can, can we prove on the blockchain when they may have occurred and point to specific changes in the source code that prevented it from doing as much damage as it did this past weekend?

E) Now that the difficulty-weighting adjustments, 6-block consecutive mining cap per algo, and the time-warp failsafes have been integrated, what kind of confidence should this give investors and devs in using/buying Myriadcoin? Is the blockchain woven better than Bitcoin's?

7 blocks in a row? Not anymore, buddeh.

Groestl tried recently, only got 6. Lovin' it!

Myriad P2Pool Incentivization: P2Pool Donations

http://myriadplatform.org/myriad-p2pool-incentivization-p2pool-donations/

This is an automated donation system that encourages miners to use P2Pool. Mining on P2Pool helps to decentralise the network, ensuring that traditional pools do not gain a large slice of the hashrate and potentially impact the security of the network.

Donations received at the donation address (see below) are saved up until they exceed the payout threshold. The donation is then split up amongst the 5 Myriadcoin P2Pool networks to both reward those already mining and to incentivise P2Pool mining on all 5 algorithms. Firstly, each network receives 5% of the donation amount. Then the remaining 75% of the donation is distributed to each network on a proportional basis, determined by its time to block relative to the other networks. This results in those networks with a long block time (and hence less P2Pool mining) receiving a greater share of the donations, to act as an incentive to increase P2Pool mining on that algorithm. Each miner on each network receives an amount based on their expected block earnings.

Stats at the time of this post:
Donation Address: M9t5Xep6Fz3scxJkzXfYMXggF7LaAK9A6w
Payout Threshold: 200.00000000 MYR
Donations Balance: 0.49970000 MYR
Total Paid Out: 499.49970000 MYR
Last Paid Out: 2:49 am Saturday 4th October (UTC)

Just donated Smiley

Awesome!
