121  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much RAM required per 7970? on: April 30, 2013, 09:23:04 AM
I have 4 x 7970 3 gb mining LTC with 8 GB ram if you're wondering about LTC mining
runs BTC with just 2gb
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2x 7970 Few questions on: April 30, 2013, 09:09:59 AM
I can get ~735-750mhs LTC with that gigabyte with the switches below (stock locked voltage).  LTC mining uses ~50w more per gpu than BTC mining.  The real edge is the memory to engine clock ratio.  Check cgminer's scrypt readme for good help finding the sweat spot.

--shaders 2048 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --auto-fan

i have 4 x gigabyte 7970's OC edition and was geting 700 stock. Just tried your settings and 3 of the cards got an additional 50 khash woot - hope it's stable cheers

all the posts re feathercoin feel so frenzied

I'm backing LTC and have 1 rig mining FRC as pure speculation

I have 2 of the same voucher and would accept 5 LTC per voucher (each voucher contains bioshock and tomb raider)

pm me if you're interested

127  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUIDE - How to make your own PCIe extender with molex. on: April 28, 2013, 11:13:53 AM
Just made my first ones and managed to get them to work. I had a few problems, thanks for the guide

  • the photo with B written on side A confused me, but the picture bellow posted by someone else cleared that up
  • the molex connector I harvested had the red wire in one of the middle slots, at first I mistakenly assumed it just went there but the fans didnt start. Next I again mistakenly assumed that it had to line up with the red wire on the PSU but it turns out the yellow cable (at least for my PSU) was the 12v connector that finally got it to work

yeah I'm running a Corsair 1200 w and the temps are all below 80 for mine

I got a new card replaced under warranty and it works fine now, both as a single card and in a 4 card rig.

good tip replacing the thermal paste, ive done that for my second hard cards I've got but glad I got this one replaced under warranty
130  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PCI-E 1x riser issues (GPU fan surges and freeze on boot) 6 x 7970 on: April 27, 2013, 08:21:56 AM
Just FYI:  I got my new risers in today and that fixed this problem.

Boozer do you use powered risers for all the cards? Just wondering if I would need to get powered risers for the 16x16 risers in a 4 x 7970 rig or just the 1 x 16

Also can not having enough power from running unpowered adapters cause the machine to crash after being able to run for 10+ hours?

thannks
131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make cgminer automatically and periodically restart? on: April 23, 2013, 07:28:05 AM
downloading CGwatcher now.

also can anyone shed any light on these parameters in the .bat file? I saw another thread that suggested this and it seems to work on one rig but not the other?

:loop
cgminer.exe -o http://coinotron.com:8322 -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD
timeout /T 10
goto loop

for the computer that it doesnt work on, the DOS prompt does not close, just appears to freeze with no values being updated

thanks

as an update to my SICK gpu, I put it in my main system and tried some mining on it - SICK again. Then I thought I'd try some gaming and mid game I am getting flickering white lines occasionally so I'm thinking that in this instance it probably is faulty. Will try RMA. Not a big fan of power colour, wish I'd just got more of the gigabyte cards which seem to run for days and much cooler

Hi guys,

bit of a noob here, just started mining and enjoying it. I recently setup my first 3 rigs with no problem

rig 1 - 4 x 7970
rig 2 - 4 x 6XXX
rig 3 - 2 x 7970

I thought I would try out some 7950 and got 2 with the plans of putting them into rig 3. However I was first testing them by themselves to measure the 2 x 7970 performance vs 2 x 7950.

However one of my 7950's is constantly getting the error AMD driver has stopped responding and has recovered. After that the card goes SICK and gets no mhash, while the other keeps on going.

Here is what I've tried:

- swapped the 2 x 7950 with the 2 x 7970 mobos/OS - the SICK follows the card to a new MOBO / PSU / OS. The 7970's work on either mobo.
- tried the 7950's by themselves - 1 mines fine by itself, the other gets SICK by itself and stops mining. Have also seen the GPU stats change to DEAD. After reboot it will mine again for 10 mins before again changing to SICK.
- Installed 13.3 beta drivers
- installed latest SDK 2.8 I think
- tried mining via 50 miner and guiminer - same thing

thanks for any help!
134  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer, "dead" gpus on: April 21, 2013, 12:32:58 AM
ok I switched the 2x 7950 with the 2x 7970 and the SICK followed the 7950 but the 7970s were fine in the other board.

is it worth trying old drivers and old SDK?

I sounds to me like you got a dead GPU.

But it may be worth while to try older catalyst and SDK as I think there was an issue with the latest.  Did you check the readme file or post in the CGMiner thread?

Hi os2sam,

thanks for your reply, I tried my cards individually on a new mobo / install and one of them still gets sick. The other seems to be fine, has been mining for a while without failing.
I haven't tried the sick card for gaming but it appears to work fine until mining when it gets the AMD driver has stopped responding. Could you RMA for this reason? I thought they just test it and say well it posts therefore it's not faulty?

I just bought 2 7950s and when mining in CGminer one of them goes sick / dead

I was running a BAT file in windows that works for a 4 x 7970 rig no probs and a 68xx, however sick for the 7950s. I just tried mining in Guiminer scrypt and the second card looks like its doing the same.

I have the latest amd drivers and just installed latest sdk not sure what else to try. Might try swap the cards to the board that I have 7970s with mining fine and see if the board is a factor
137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quad HD 7970 Bitcoin Miner - PSU Req.? on: April 20, 2013, 08:53:40 AM
grats on your system, I've also built a 4 x 7970 rig recently and in aus too

mine is built and mining well in BAMT but have done 0 optimisation, that is next though I do love the stability of stock settings :p
got another rig with 2 x 7950's just today and getting SICK on the second card. You have any luck resolving your SICK status? If so was it just changing miner?

Hi Coinotron,

thanks for the sweet pool, I just woke up after my first night of FRC mining and was looking through this thread to see when payments come through and as I was about to send you a PM it arrived :p
loving the multi pool cheers keep up the good work
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody mining Freicoins? on: April 18, 2013, 10:37:50 PM
i mined about 10,000 the other day -  so yeah weeeeee

did you mine before or after they started taking 80%?
I was looking into starting to mine Freicoins but when I saw they take 80% that rapidly slowed down my enthusiasm
140  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any conexion between the drop of bitcoin and the drop o Gold??? on: April 17, 2013, 11:57:59 AM
the big drop in gold and silver does feel pretty fishy

whats your feeling on institutes doing fake posts on forums for the same reason? I am still trying to make sense of whether or not asics is real - or is going to be
