1201  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoinminersuk.com: is this legit on: September 04, 2015, 10:20:30 PM
given that 90% of cloud mining sites are scams , i wouldn't use this site unless a lot of people vouch for it. the site interface also looks kinda shady.

1202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Use cases. What do you actually use Bitcoin for? on: September 04, 2015, 10:17:33 PM
Gambling is the main purpose of use of BTC to me...nothing else

Gambling is good for fun but do not make it an addiction or else you would turn out loosing all your bitcoins. It is better to invest your bitcoins into bitcoins. Try to buy more and keep it safe for the future as we believe that the prices will raise in the future. I generally use it for making online transfers as it is cost effective.
yep, ive seen way too many people lose EVERYTHING by gambling, i just dont see the appeal in gambling thers always a bigger chance of losing than winning.
1203  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcointalk Account price estimator on: September 04, 2015, 10:10:38 PM

1204  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there any youtubers that are making good video about bitcoin trading ? on: September 04, 2015, 09:29:19 PM
whenever i tried to look up bitcoin videos and tutorials on youtube, i dont see much. some topics have 0 videos on em.
this just shows that the bitcoin community still has a lot to grow upon.
1205  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: September 04, 2015, 08:56:54 PM
do you happen to know how to get multiple private keys for a wallet if i have the extended private key (xpriv).

I don't know any easy way of generating the keys from an xpriv - it would be nice if https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/ allowed us to edit the xprv field ourselves. I'll look into making that change.

Try this:

  https://dooglus.github.io/bip39/

I made the xprv field editable. I can't promise it works right, and the error handling isn't good at all. Click 'generate' then edit the xprv, and it won't tell you the value is invalid, it will just say "calculating" forever. But paste in a valid xprv code and it seems to work.
it seems to have worked it gave me the private keys, going to try sending some bits to one of the  address shown on your site and see if they show up on my HD wallet.
o btw the derivation path shows as m/44'/0'/0'/0/y where y is the only number changing, i guess that makes sense cuz its 1 wallet.
1206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Paper wallet question on: September 04, 2015, 08:39:45 PM
You can also try Bither, its an open source wallet.( best one for ios in my opinion).
to scan a private key go into advanced settings and choose import WIF.
here's a thread on the wallet https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=606238.0
1207  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: September 04, 2015, 08:24:27 PM
is that only compatible for mycelium phrases or can i use other hd accounts phrases as well?
and do you happen to know how to get multiple private keys for a wallet if i have the extended private key (xpriv).

It works with any wallet that uses BIP39 seeds, and BIP32 derivation.

Mycelium uses "m/44'/0'/x'/y" as its BIP32 derivation path, where x is the account number (starting for 0 for account 1, 1 for account 2, etc.) and y is 0 for receiving addresses and 1 for change addresses.

Other wallets use different strings.

You can use the BIP32 tab at https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/ to enter any BIP32 derivation path you like. If you put m/44'/0'/0'/0 in there, then you'll see the Mycelium receiving addresses for account 0 (what Mycelium calls "account 1"). Apparently hive wallet uses "m/0'/0", and other wallets presumably use their own version. You can play about with the BIP32 derivation path field until you see your receiving address being generated.

I don't know any easy way of generating the keys from an xpriv - it would be nice if https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/ allowed us to edit the xprv field ourselves. I'll look into making that change.
Thanks for explaining the derivation paths  Cheesy makes alot more sense now. i tried it with mycelium wallet and it worked like a charm.
This site deserves more attention.
1208  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will you quit your day job to go full time on bitcoin? on: September 04, 2015, 08:20:24 PM
to me bitcoin seems like a fun and interesting way of trading. i dont use bitcoin just for the sake of money. i use it because its intriguing.
so short answer, i would'nt quit my job over bitcoin, but i wouldn't give it up either.
1209  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: September 04, 2015, 07:36:27 PM
i would personally choose bitcoin because i believe it has a lot of potential. however i know all of my friends would choose gold because they'd see it as a more tangible item.
1210  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: September 04, 2015, 04:21:02 PM
Anyone having issues with the iphone version of mycelium? I use the android version. But I know a guy with the iphone version who loaded bitcoins to his wallet and has a zero balance showing even tho the coins show several confirmations in his transaction history. So the coins show as confirmed but he can't spend them. I found a reddit thread about how the iphone version is totally different, made by different devs and generally crappy. Any tips for this guy on how to access his btc?

Here's the reddit thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/36ke99/mycelium_iphone_vs_android/

EDIT: If this issue is not resolved, is there a way to export the private keys from his wallet and spend the btc from another wallet?

You can export the master seed, and use that to generate the private keys.

Putting the 12 word seed into https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/ should get you the keys you need. You might want to load the page, then disconnect from the Internet if you're worried about the page somehow stealing your seed. Or even copy the page to a USB memory stick and load it on an entirely offline machine, depending on how safe you want to be.

You should see the receiving addresses shown by mycelium under 'derived addresses' on the BIP44 tab once you've entered the 12 word seed. If not, try changing the account number to 1 or 2. And if you change the 'external / internal' from 0 to 1, you'll see the change addresses instead of the receiving addresses for that account.
is that only compatible for mycelium phrases or can i use other hd accounts phrases as well?
and do you happen to know how to get multiple private keys for a wallet if i have the extended private key (xpriv).

1212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Use cases. What do you actually use Bitcoin for? on: September 04, 2015, 03:36:09 PM
i use bitcoin as a savings place. i just store money in an address and never spend it. hoping bitcoin rises in the future years.  Smiley
1213  Economy / Speculation / Re: $300 in the end of August on: September 04, 2015, 01:55:09 PM
Move the prediction of $300 mark by end of December. Im pretty sure next month btc price won't hit that mark.

I actually agree with this. There's no special good enough of a reason for the price to go up 25% from where it is now, and i do also believe that
december will be optimistic; people will probably start stashing up for the halving, because it's likely that the price will be pre-pumped way before the actual halving.
is the halfing happening in december?
1214  Economy / Economics / Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever on: September 04, 2015, 01:30:09 PM
Reading the responses to the recent topic titled, "I would sell all my bitcoins if…." has left me concerned.

agreed, if no one solf their coins, the supply would be VERY limited and the price would skyrocket.
1215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATMs spreading very slowly it seems... on: September 04, 2015, 12:37:10 PM
...

Every month or so I check the couple of websites (showing BTC ATMs) as well as the Facebook page re the International Bitcoin group.
But, I am dismayed that these BTC ATMs (I saw "BTMs" written elsewhere, clever) do not appear anywhere near my city.

I don't see the purpose of ATM's, bitcoin is supposed to be anonymous, and ATM's just defeat that purpose. why buy it in public when you can buy it online without ever having to leave your house
1216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best way to get the most bang for your buck with bit coin? on: September 04, 2015, 03:31:01 AM
Not a popular opinion perhaps, but i would say that giving out smart loans and operating as an currency exchanger here on forum can do you well
in terms of increasing your stash. If i had some significant amount of bitcoins available, i would do just that, and keep my profits in bitcoin, until the
exchange rate reaches some "too good to be true" figure in a hype, then i would sell and wait for a correction; after that rinse and repeat from start.
Seams like a good plan imho
Although this can be risky, this is a good way. if you want to reduce the risk try P2P lend sites like bitbond or btcjam. bitfinex is alot safer but yields much lower profits

1218  Other / New forum software / Re: Can we "Like" a post? on: September 04, 2015, 02:22:28 AM
How about the ability to "like" or "+1" a post?  To prevent obvious abuse, you must have positive trust and seniority to vote.   A +1 should not give any advantage to a a post.
sounds just like reddit
