1222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoiner still support the use of centralized exchanges? on: April 22, 2023, 08:18:40 AM
I did some research on Bitcoin because I was interested in it, and I discovered that the key principles of Bitcoin are peer-to-peer, anonymity, pseudonymity, decentralization, and operating without a middleman to ensure that Bitcoiners can have financial freedom. However, despite knowing that Bitcoiners adhere to these tenets, why do some Bitcoiners act contrary to them? Why do they continue to support centralized exchanges, use them, and retain their Bitcoin there?

A centralized exchange is a platform where you can easily buy Bitcoin using your Fiat money, you could easily use something like your Debit or credit card to buy on the platform, and an easy way to trade your cryptocurrency to the different blockchain networks. Yes, most of us hate centralized exchange but it just has advantages and disadvantages, one of the disadvantages of it is it is centralized and we don't have complete control of our own funds.

But it's still a legitimate exchange platform, it's easy, and convenient to use the platform, and most of the traders use the platform even though they hated centralized exchange because it's convenient, just don't put funds or invest in the long term on this platform. You could just buy on it, or exchange your crypto on an exchange then take the funds out to a more secure wallet.
1223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are Address Poisoning Scams? on: April 22, 2023, 07:29:42 AM
There were a lot of these cases on the TRON network, sending a small amount of Tron to wallets, scammers creating a similar address copying some of the first or last characters of the address hoping that the user will get lazy since we sometimes use to just checking the first few or last characters on our address.
I'm just curious on this one.

Is it possible on the tron network that they can generate these type of wallet addresses so, this is like vanity addresses? where the first and last addresses can be modified depending on what are the characters they want to generate?

Honestly, I'm guilty on this one that I just look at the first and last characters of my addresses but this is for bitcoin and not with tron or any other altcoin.

They could easily generate addresses on an open source using the profanity address generator, but there are I think vanity address generators, I think they could generate a custom prefix and suffix. They can generate a lot of addresses when I take a lot on how profanity works. There are issues I think on profanity where it could generate an address that is already owned by other users, but it was already abandoned by the creator because of the exploits.

We are all guilty of just looking at the first four or last character, I guess it is also possible on the Bitcoin network since you could just send micro-transactions as well.
1224  Local / Pilipinas / Re: For how many years ngayon lang ulit nag balik sa bitcoin world on: April 21, 2023, 06:59:38 PM
Ilang years din ang nakaraan mula nagka idea ako about bitcoin.

Welcome back!

1225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are Address Poisoning Scams? on: April 21, 2023, 05:42:56 PM

There were a lot of these cases on the TRON network, sending a small amount of Tron to wallets
The scammers didn't send anything at all. The transactions were empty, they only paid the network fees.

Isn't it micro transactions? like, for example, sending 0.000001 TRX is it possible to receive nothing in a wallet by just paying fees? I think it wouldn't register on your transaction history if it doesnt have value.

I have a general practice to copy the address from wallet and reverify every alphabet of the address after pasting.
It hardly takes a minute but saves us our precious coins.
How do you do that, man? I have never been that patient to check all the alphabet from an address to make sure I'm not going to be scammed. Well, I usually check a few first and last characters, and most of the time, if the address is a used one, I check with the blockchain explorer to identify the address from the transaction history lol. That's far easy I think than checking every character manually.
What's the chance that a scammer can generate almost the same address through a vanity search? Maybe it's possible to have the same address for a few characters but is it possible to have a similar address of mine with a similarity of more than 20 characters for example?

No it's definitely very hard to get more than 20 similar characters but there are two things to consider

1. May be the scammer can get 8 characters same i.e. the first 4 and last 4 characters.
Many people just check the first few and last few characters but tend to avoid the middle ones.

2. Just one different character is enough to send the amount to a different address.
May be we made a mistake in copy pasting or something but even if one character is wrongly entered then there are possibilities that the amount will be lost.

As for checking every character manually part it's quite easy. I have a strong short term memory and can remember 5-6 characters at once immediately.
So I verify the address 5 characters at a time and the whole address is verified by every character in not more than 30 seconds.
Would you risk your BTC for 30 seconds or lets say 1 minute ?

I think they are using tools like a profanity address generator, which could generate a custom prefix and suffix.
1226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your tips and tricks to orange pill your family and friends on: April 21, 2023, 05:22:01 PM
I guess that many of you have already tried to orange pill family or friends. Personally, I've totally given up on the idea.

Some people have asked me to invest a few hundred euros for them, in which case I would have to be their banker... They don't even want to know how to install a wallet or even buy a hardware wallet. In short, I refuse to be a banker.

And you, have you also given up? Or are you persevering with unstoppable tricks?

That wouldn't really work, I've tried it on my family, and taking investment from them wouldn't really make a profit because they don't really understand how the market works or even how Bitcoin works. Without understanding how the market works they easily think that the money was lost or taken by me but I just invested it in Bitcoin and other top cryptocurrencies in the market. They are not patient enough to make the hold thinking that after just a few months they already have a certain percentage of profit even though I already explain to them that they might lose all of their investment if the market was down, and they need to hold for a long time at that point.

They just don't want to invest on their own maybe because they just doesnt have time for it, And that's the point you don't really need to encourage them to invest we just need to explain what and how to invest on it and then let them decide if they really wanted to invest on their own, because if he's not the one that is going to invest on her own it just doesn't work. So in my situation, it is just better to give up since I already did my part I'll just let them decide.

1228  Economy / Economics / Re: Lending money or damaging family bond ? on: April 21, 2023, 08:49:15 AM

Managing finances properly is key to our financial life, which is well known to each of us, I guess. I feel like this is in my bones so sometimes I make some decisions subconsciously. I recently ran into a situation where I found myself really awkward. Last July or August(I can't remember that clearly), one of my extended family cousin asked me for three thousand dollars as he lost his job and could not pay off his loans. I refuse to lend him the money cause I knew him well that he was not a solid trustworthy guy. A few days ago we met on a family reunion occasion and he did not really talk to me and I suddenly realized that it was because I didn't lend him money last year. I think about it twice and if he had not been that untrustworthy, I would have definitely lent him the money. Anyway, I hope he is doing fine now and best wishes to him.

When talking about financial it's not always the best thing just to lend or give money to your family or relative, And the fact that he had a grudge only just because you didn't lend him money was already a red flag in my opinion. It's actually great to lend money to your family and relatives but there should always be limitations on it, and you should also assess if that money would actually help him or if you're just spoiling him teaching him to be lazy and not actually standing on his own.

I guess it would be better so that they would not be dependent on you when it comes to money, it might just teach them how to stand on their own, he did make a loan so it's his responsibility to pay for it. Maybe what you can do his hire him to do something with that you are making use of your money and at the same time, you're teaching him that money is not easily earned.

1229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How I found my financial success in Bitcoin 1 year on: April 20, 2023, 07:50:57 PM
Well, you did a very great job on your Bitcoin journey, I sold most of my Bitcoin last bull run and I actually get a good profit from it, I started accumulating Bitcoin again last year when the Bear market started to hit, And I also don't have time to spend on the forum that time because I got a full-time job, its difficult to be active here and on trading and investing if you already have a full-time job.

I'm confident with my experience in Bitcoin investing, I would do and earn a lot this time, I'm curious how far my Bitcoin will reach, well of course we are all planning to hold it. I'm still building my mindset to actually hold for the long term because I'm always thinking of selling at a profit which is not bad actually, it's always difficult to hold if you doesnt really have other passive incomes. Planning to invest in a passive income first.

The best thing to do is to follow best practices when sending our coin or when receiving tokens. Copying addresses without even checking them is one of the worst things that we can do.

I have seen some people get scammed up to 25k$ and it's actually very cheap to make this transaction by sending multi transactions to multiple users, But as long as we are aware of these scams the chances As long as we are aware of this scams the probability of getting scam plummets to a lower percentage.
1231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advise to a friend on: April 20, 2023, 02:15:15 PM
Ordinarily, I don't like asking questions like this because I feel they're personal questions that should be answered by myself alone but it has been on my mind for a very long time and I have not gotten a solution for it.

I have a friend that works hard. He does two jobs and he makes a lot of money. Most of his money is in a savings bank account where he saves them. He doesn't have any use for it right now so the money is just sitting pretty in that account. Lately, I've been having the urge to advise him to buy Bitcoin with like 40% of his savings and HODL. Holding won't be an issue for him because he has the patience of an old man. He has left the savings in his account for over two years without touching it. Now imagine him transferring that energy to Bitcoin.

The problem is, someone has convinced him to buy altcoins before now, I think in late 2021 or thereabout. He bought three different altcoins for about $500 and now two out of the three coins he bought are worthless. one is worth about $0.045. The price ain't the issue, the issue is these coins are not like Bitcoin that will rise again.
I have explained all he needs to know about Bitcoin to him and he understands. He understands how Bitcoin is not a get-rich-quick scheme, the risk, and the patience involved.
He buys into the idea but I'm still having doubts. I don't want to look like a fraud when things don't work out. I mean, I can speculate about the market all I want, but I can't be sure what tomorrow brings.

So should I go ahead and advise him to buy Bitcoin or I should leave him to come to me himself? Because he will buy it if I ask him to.

It would just depend on him if he wants to buy Bitcoin or Not you can't really push it to buy Bitcoin if he doesn't want to buy Bitcoin, it's understandable that he has a bad experience with cryptocurrency and money is not easy to earn, so he can do what he wants on his money.

Dont get me wrong but you don't really have the obligation to push him to buy Bitcoin, all you need to do is just to teach him what is bitcoin and why he should invest in, it, and then he can decide after that if he is going to buy bitcoin if he doesn't have time or doesn't want to learn Bitcoin by himself he should not buy Bitcoin because its still a risk investment even though we all believe on bitcoin.
1232  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5 Years, 5000 Merit and 7000 Posts. on: April 19, 2023, 06:44:45 PM
I just realized that today is my 5th anniversary as a member of the Bitcointalk community, most of you don't know me and probably have not seen any of my posts, but I can assure you that I had a wild journey which I never saw coming, form a random newbie with a silly user name asking some stupid questions, to top 10 most merited user at some point, I don't even recall how all these events played out, not even sure how I managed to write 7000 posts despite being busy most of the time, but shit happens.  Cheesy

My story is probably isn't new, many members built better profiles than mine in a short time, but the thing you need to understand is that it isn't difficult AT ALL to have a good place in this forum, you don't need coding skills or to be able to speak multiple languages, you don't even need to know how Bitcoin actually works, all you have to do is remain consistent and do your best to learn and share knowledge.

I would like to thank everyone who is contributing something to the forum, keep up the good work.

Now a new journey begins, and hopefully, 5 years later I would be able to write another boring story like this one.

First of all congratulations! 5000 Merits,7000 Post is a lot of hard work and dedication! You're a real legend here in the forum.

Well, I didn't really notice but it's my 5th year as well going to 6, I stop getting active last, last year I think because I had to work and I don't have time to post anymore but I came back. Hopefully, I will be able to achieve similar to what you did, it might take a long time but I'll stay consistent. Keep it up!
1233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I buy bitcoin as a newbie? on: April 19, 2023, 05:58:05 PM
Many newbies wish to buy bitcoin but most at times we buy in a wrong place, like the case of a brother who I taught what cryptosystem is about, after 3weeks of spending time with him. He avoid secretly just make sure I don't have the knowledge of how much he has and how much he wants to invest.

He went and meet some crypto vendors to buy bitcoin of $700 without my knowledge, which they actually create a wallet for him and buy bitcoin, lately to him, it was increasing in price because of recent bulls.

But unfortunately it was a scam site, he can not access the site again, he can't find the guy the create the wallet.

I suggest newbies to visit bitcoin.com and buy any cryptocurrency. You can buy with you gift card, debit card, bank account, apps wallet and so on to avoid loss. In block chain one hardly loss wallets except you loss private keys but if you go to wrong site you will loss everything.
www.bitcoin.com

I am sorry for your brother's loss it's a big amount of money, Did you ask the reason why he buy Bitcoin secretly without your help? Your story is a little confusing, but if you say so.  There are a lot of scammers that do this kind of scam, I also have a friend that got a scam that is really similar to this, he invested in a guy and got an agreement that he would buy Bitcoin for him and put it on a wallet then they could split the profit in the future, but the guy disappears and scam my friend's money. He has a bad experience with cryptocurrency so I told him what he does is wrong since he trusted his money with other people, I told him that if he doesn't want to learn bitcoin and invest on her own just dont buy Bitcoin at all.

The easiest way to buy bitcoin depends on your country, for me buying bitcoin on Binance exchange and then sending it to my wallet is the best and fastest way.
1234  Economy / Economics / Re: Look for what to invest, not what to eat on: April 19, 2023, 04:07:33 PM
I don't know why some people in this platform are looking for what to eat at the moment, not know that they can invest in a potential projects that will put food on their table, and they will not lack what to eat and what to spend in future. I saw some message in the Bitcointalk.org where some users are trying to sell their account just to get what to eat not knowing that they can use that account to work to get a huge capital that will bring them out from poverty, and make food surplus in their home. I knew some senior members in this forum that started using member rank to work before they get to legendary to spread many investments around the country, because they didn't look for what to eat at the moment than to work hard to used their opportunities to invested in BTC before they became who they are today.
Will you invest now or you will be like that person that is looking for what to eat? It will be favourable if you can change that attitude of selling what will make you great in future just because of what will survive you at the moment. No way you will invest in BTC today and you will not have something good to eat because, investment is like a seed planted in a due season to expect something good in the future. Is it a good thing to invest or is good to continue looking for what to eat?
What do you think.

It's normal and in order to survive we need to eat, we can't blame them if you're already in survival mode you might just do the same in that situation, especially if you have a family.

Food is one of our basic necessities in life so we buy food first before investing, I mean yes investment is great but if you don't eat your gonna get sick and die so investing doesn't make any sense, investing in your future doesnt really matter if you're already dead.

Cryptocurrency investment is a risky investment so its not something that we can just put our money into and guaranteed a profit, the best thing to do is already have different funds, savings and other investments before even investing in cryptocurrency.
1235  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: BAGONG SHITCOINS on: April 19, 2023, 03:24:56 PM
Hello mga Kababayan,  Cheesy

Welcome back saakin dito forum. LOL  Cheesy

1236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do bitcoins on exchanges come from ? on: April 19, 2023, 05:53:10 AM
Hey !

Just out of curiosity I know there are a lot of bitcoins on exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, Bitfinex and so on).
Where do they come from ?

Is it:
- Miners selling bitcoins on exchanges
- Retail people exchanging bitcoins
- Drug dealers swapping bitcoins versus cash
- Other ?

How can I know if the bitcoin I buy on the exchange is "legit" or "dirty" ? Is it important ?

I think most of the things you said don't really matter, just pick a legitimate exchange where you could buy a bitcoin unless you bought it on some suspicious exchange website put your money there that's the only way maybe you could buy a fake bitcoin. You don't need to know this kind of thing when buying Bitcoin, I mean I don't know if the Bitcoin I bought on an exchange or any market was used for any illegal activities. Does it come from a miner? Does it come from other people? involve in some illegal activities or drugs? I don't really know.

It's still just an exchange platform that we use so most of the Bitcoin just came from people as well so there could be a lot of transactions happening before it goes to an exchange, But it wouldn't really matter at some point if you put your bitcoin on the exchange address, and have a transaction all of the other transactions will not matter.
1237  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need help on: April 19, 2023, 05:20:39 AM
is it good for a contractor to be awarded a contact  and be  payed  with Bitcoin .I was awarded a contact and to be payed with Bitcoin  I don't have any idea about it i  need a help from these foroom please?

You could easily ask your employer to be paid on Bitcoin, but for some businesses and countries, this might not be a thing so I don't think they going to pay you Bitcoin just because you want to be paid on Bitcoin.

I don't think it's a good idea for you to take Bitcoin as a payment, fiat money would work well for sure, Bitcoin would be a big hassle at this point unless you're going to invest everything on your payroll.
1238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do women engage in crypto trading on: April 18, 2023, 05:38:39 PM
Most persons may say no but YES is the actual answer
In the ideal sense the dominance of crypto currencies by women is in great progress. Bitcoin is  the most popular crypto currency and therefore a currency of such will be dominated either now or in the future.
Women engage in crypto currency transactions also like men do the reason you may feel they don't is because those that don't have not much idea about it.
I mean whatever gender you can engage and buy Bitcoin it doesn't really matter, But I guess looking at this diagram there are obviously a lot more men that are into this kind of thing. There are of course some women that are interested and good in trading and investment but there are only a few for sure.

Why are so few women buying into Bitcoin?

I guess men are just more on to this kind of thing there is a lot of research that men at more techy, even famous scientists or mathematicians are mostly men. In my opinion, women just like other things than this kind of stuff. Also maybe women just don't like risky investments like Bitcoin they are more like other investments where they have a guaranteed return.
1239  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Si CZ Na Tagapagtatag Ng Binance Ay Kinasuhan Ng CFTC on: April 18, 2023, 04:43:46 PM

Para sa karagdagang detalye: CZ Sued By US Regulator CFTC Over Violations and Insider Trading Allegations

1240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why we want inflation for good value on BTC? on: April 18, 2023, 04:18:55 PM
With the printing of fiat money that is always in constant motion by the powers that be.
As the fiat money devalues in value. The value of BTC and other cryptos goes up.
So if the banks etc printing all fiat out of crazy numbers, then we should be in a guarantee of BTC going to over a million perhaps.

Does that mean we should be embracing the printing of money?

Make all our money go totally out of value, so anyone holding BTC can get good value?

Does this make sense?

Printing money is always a big problem in a lot of countries, Inflation cannot be stopped and for me, bitcoin is one of the ways to salvage your money from inflation. It's obviously wrong that the government is printing money, but it's already how it works so we can't really do anything about that.

Looking at the Bitcoin structure it supposes to be rare in the future, I think Bitcoin is the best investment that we could make to avoid inflation. Accumulating more Bitcoin is the best thing to do because the market prices could skyrocket at any moment.
