1221  Other / Meta / Re: Cloudflare blocks creating new topic (Tor) on: September 18, 2023, 07:09:49 AM
Why use TOR at the first place anyway? Can't you use normally? I never used TOR. So I never faced anything like that. Sometimes I would get random time outs or verification failed but not that you got.
Some people on this forum prefer to remain anonymous, such people will prefer to use Tor which is better in masking someone's identify than any other means. Some people use VPN also (paid VPN). VPN is private and centralized unlike Tor which is not centralized like VPN.
1222  Other / Meta / Re: Cloudflare blocks creating new topic (Tor) on: September 18, 2023, 05:33:24 AM
He should try and update his Tor browser. What can make browsers including Tor not able to pass captcha is becuase the app is old and not updated.
1223  Other / Meta / Re: Without merit... on: September 17, 2023, 08:27:14 PM
That's when we have to make use of merit to rate a post.
But see it this way, without merit how can you rate a post?
because with merit distribution in this Forum that's how we rate quality post...
Without merit is there any other way of rating a post?
There are some quality posts that are not given merit, but if you see the user making such posts, he would have collected merits very well but just that not all his quality posts that can be given merit. If I see a good post, I will know because it would be useful, informative and educative. We learn day by day on this forum, from the post you learn from or that you see it is useful for other people, such posts supposed to be given merits.
1224  Other / Meta / Re: Without merit... on: September 17, 2023, 08:15:09 PM
The level of someone's posts quality are directly proportional to the merit received by the person, although there can be some partial reasons that can make some other people with low effort posts to have more merits, but merit is simply still the reflection of quality posts as long as it is this forum.
1225  Other / Meta / Re: What's a trust list? on: September 17, 2023, 04:18:37 PM
If DT1 member add you to his trust list, you will become a DT2 member.
It is theymos that will add you to DT1.

If you trust a user on this forum, you can add the user to your trust list. Click on your profile > trust > trust settings to do that.

If you put someone on ignore list, you will not be able to see the post that person make. If the person that you ignore mention you in a post, you will not get the notification. But if someone that you did not ignore quote the person that you ignore, you will get the notification.
1226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I Verify the Integrity of Open-Source Code on: September 17, 2023, 04:13:31 PM
I think you can solve this skepticism by comparing the GPG code (signature code which is used to verify that the code is not tampered with) or hashes. I hope you can do that. Otherwise you simply have to find the resource code of the product you are using and then can compare that code with the code which the publishers have published. You should take some products as an example.
You are getting it wrongly. GPG or PGP or anything that we call a way to verify that we downloaded the right app and not the fake one is not a way to know that a software is open source or close source. Assuming I downloaded Electrum and verify its signature, I will know that Electrum site has not been compromised and that the wallet I downloaded from the Electrum site is from the Electrum developer. If Electrum site is compromised and the hacker that compromised it changed the original Electrum app to fake apps, I will be able to know that it is fake if the PGP signature fails.
1227  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Deleting Post can reduce the merit we got? on: September 17, 2023, 03:06:49 PM
If your post has been given merit and it is deleted, the merit that you were given will not be deleted. If your post has been deleted and it was given merit, go to your profile merit page and you will see the merit but the post as deleted.
1228  Other / Meta / Re: Is CNBC blocked on Bitcointalk? on: September 17, 2023, 02:35:51 PM
I can remember very well that when I was a newbie, some links that I post can be removed like this. Like Jawhead999 said, this will no longer happen to you as you rank up on this forum.

@Asta124, you have gotten the answer to the question that you asked, it would be better if you lock this topic to avoid other people to be posting the same thing that has already been answered.

To lock a topic, go down this thread, you will see lock topic at the left side. Lock it.

Edit:
You can see that I attached 2 links, and only the one from CNBC was removed which is strange. If newbies are prohibited from using certain links, please give me the details anyone.
It happens to new users only. Not all links are affected.
1229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I Verify the Integrity of Open-Source Code on: September 17, 2023, 01:11:12 PM
If you are not a developer, you can not know it, only developers can be able to completely know if a code is completely open source or not. For wallets, you can ask on this forum.

You can check this website also: https://walletscrutiny.com/

If you are a developer, the open source wallets leave their code public on GitHub.
1230  Other / Off-topic / Re: How has AI affected your job? Positively or negatively? on: September 17, 2023, 11:20:26 AM
The only thing I do not like about AI is the lack of privacy that AI user are having.

If it is about people's job and you are thinking AI will replace human, I do not think that will be possible. People are also needed to operate AI. I can only see how AI will provide more jobs.

In my work, I do not use AI for now.
1231  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: $870K hacked from Mark Cuban on MetaMask on: September 17, 2023, 12:13:35 AM
He used Metamask to hold million of dollar worth of cryptocurrencies. After the $870 thousand was moved from the wallet, he was able to still move $2 million worth of USDC to Coinbase.

I am wondering how someone can have high amount of coins that is worth millions of dollars and holding it on a hot wallet comfortably and sleeping easily every night. I can not have that amount of money on a hot wallet and be sleeping easily until I get myself a hardware wallet.
1232  Other / Meta / Re: Night Mode Needed - People Love Dark Mode - Admin Wake Up on: September 16, 2023, 07:17:39 PM
If you can use mobile browser like Via, Phoenix or UC browser, they all have night mode.
Does anyone know any solutions for Tor on Android?
Android Tor does not have dark mode.
1233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Knowledge to help you argue with bitcoin critics on: September 16, 2023, 07:05:47 PM
As bitcoin is fast growing they are so many people and nations already against its adoption because of its decentralised nature which prevents any central body from controlling it making it a hate project for many government body but those who know it's true value are still adopting it.
Do not mind anyone that says the government do not like bitcoin, bitcoin is strictly banned in few countries, most countries allow their people to buy, sell and hold bitcoin. Just that their will always be critics. Even as bitcoin has proved these critics wrong so many times, many of them still prefer to criticize bitcoin. Out of hundreds of countries in the world, less than 15 countries strictly ban it while others allow it in one way or the other.
1234  Other / Meta / Re: Night Mode Needed - People Love Dark Mode - Admin Wake Up on: September 16, 2023, 06:58:19 PM
You can use any of these extension for night mode

Dark theme for Bitcointalk(CSS only)

1235  Other / Meta / Re: The comment layout here is actually pretty unique and should be preserved on: September 16, 2023, 01:39:39 PM
The best thing that you can do right now is to lock this thread because this thread is not necessary at all.

What you supposed to have done is to post the OP of this thread on that old thread and let it just be like that. Why did you create another thread about it? Becuase you supposed not to create a topic about it.
1236  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach all-time-high before halving. - BitQuant on: September 16, 2023, 12:27:16 PM
If this happens, then this is the first time that we will see a new all time high before halving, and with that, I will say that I will take their statement with a grain of salt. History tells us that a massive bull run always happen after the block halving, regardless of what is the status or the situation of the global financial markets.
This are just normal people like us, and we can even be better than them. I too will doubt this but just that people like these are well known to many people, that does not suggest they are better than us when it comes to prediction. Bitcoin has never gotten to all-time-high before halving and I do not think this will happen this time. But if to buy bitcoin now is the question, the answer is yes and people can also go for DCA. But for all-time-high before halving, I do not believe that will happen at all.
1237  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk user Joerii passed away... on: September 16, 2023, 09:48:35 AM
I do not know him, probably because he was not that active again after August 2017. May his soul rest in peace.

Not sure where to post this, "serious discussion" seemed the most fit.
You supposed to post it on reputation board. Move it to reputation board. Just scroll down on this thread, you will see move topic, click on it and move it to reputation board.
1238  Other / Meta / Re: Use less (No subject) in MP, please on: September 16, 2023, 08:37:24 AM
Good one, I dislike receiving this too.
You can't create a topic without entering a title. PMs should reject the default too. Patch time?

It's just annoying when you want to go to a specific message, and in the index there are 10 messages saying "no subject".  Roll Eyes
There I have to go into more detail to choose the one I want. Fortunately, I have managed to control the situation. But, I think it's always better to have a title than "no subject".

When I hear "patch time?" I flick my head up like my dog does when he hears "walkies?". Grin

(I've sent a patch to theymos. If he merges it quickly, we might set a new record for time between suggestion and implementation.)

Sending message to someone on this forum should also be seen as formal and informal, not just in one way.

If it is formal, title supposed to be added, even if you are writing a letter on a paper officially. But if it is informal, for example I am writing to a friend on this forum, I may decide not to include a title.

If you are writing an official letter, you can write it the way you want. It is left for the person you are writing it to to either read it or not. In official cases, the person a letter is written to may not read it if it is written informally. That option is left also on this forum. Even on emails, you can send a message without the title, just like if you write a letter to someone on a paper.

If you do not see the title, you may like and not read it than to make a suggestion about how PM supposed not to be.

Or if it can be in a way that someone can option for it on their profile settings, that all messages that should be received should have a title, it would be better like that. But the default should be as it is now.

This is just my suggestion. Messages can have a title or not. If the suggestion should be added, it should be optioned for.
1239  Other / Meta / Re: Use less (No subject) in MP, please on: September 15, 2023, 08:41:06 PM
What is funny to me is that I did not bother to read the title of any personal messages that anyone send to me, what I look at first is the person that send the personal message, after checking the person, I go straight to the message to read it. They are just few sentences which I can easily read. But people are different from people.
1240  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be a boom again? on: September 15, 2023, 07:51:25 PM
Should I invest my savings in Bitcoin? Or should I lean towards altcoins this time? Which one? I don't have health problems and don't have to worry about job security but it would make me sad to lose all the savings but life in Canada is getting expensive every fucking day.
Bitcoin increased to all-time-high of $69000 in November 2021 just as it increased to all-time-high of $19600 in 2017. It decreased significanly to $15400 in the following year which was 2022 as it did in 2018. The following year after 2022 which is 2023 that we are now, bitcoin price increased but not very well, this was what that happened in 2019. Bitcoin halving was in 2020 which we can relate with 2024. All-time-high in 2021 which would be 2025. Expect all-time-high in 2024/2025.

So that answer to your question is you should invest in bitcoin. Yes, you should.
