1221  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How can blockchain.info use the MtGox yubikey? on: October 27, 2012, 03:13:43 PM
Does this key-logger threat still apply to standard Yubikeys on this wallet service?  Also can you use the standard Yubikey safely on more than one wallet or on other websites?

Edit:  And does using a Yubikey protect your wallet backups stored online?
1222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info acount hacked while using yubikey.... on: October 27, 2012, 02:56:16 PM
I tried out my MtGox YubiKey on the blockchain wallet service, and I noticed the OTP's that it generates are REUSABLE. It seems Blockchain.info is only looking at the first few letters of the OTP, as they are static, you can actually change the end of the OTP and the website will still accept it.

Doesn't sound secure at all to me.

You are absolutely correct

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=64300.0

What about if you don't use the MtGox Yubikey but the standard version.  Also can you use the standard version of the Yubikey on more than wallet/site and be safe?
1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info acount hacked while using yubikey.... on: October 27, 2012, 02:52:19 PM
Does the online backups of your wallet need the MtGox Yubikey to be decrypted?  If not maybe some hacked your email, Dropbox or Google Drive?  Otherwise the thief must be someone you know.

Just spent about three hours trying to install OT from Git and the learning curve just to use it is immense.  So it will probably be simpler to use 'Coloured Coin' but the reason I wanted to try OT was because it would have enabled shareholders to trade there own shares.  You see with 'Coloured Coins' I have to know each coins dividend address.  If you want to trade your shares you've got to change the dividend payment address.  So you why I wanted to use OT maybe we should support this - [BOUNTY] 185+ BTC - Open Transactions Client (for Grandmas) - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=105506.0

A dev has started a thread on a -
stock exchange based on colored coins - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=118672.msg1274632#msg1274632 - but it's a very long way off.  So it looks like our only way to increase profits after the ASIC's delivery is through reinvestment.  That's why after we have received our third ASIC and paid its first months dividend I'll be pushing on upping the reinvestment fund up to maybe 90% of profits depending on how fast it looks set for us to grow.  As I've stated after we've saved the rest up for the fourth ASIC that will increase turnover by around ~25%.  Also after we have saved up enough for the fifth ASIC that will increase turnover by a little less but still around 25%.  As for increasing the reinvestment fund I'd rather have a smaller dividend that is growing fast then a larger dividend which is slowly shrinking due to our hashrate not growing faster than the growth in network hashrate/difficulty.  I hope you can all see the logic in that.
1225  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: stock exchange based on colored coins on: October 26, 2012, 02:01:42 AM
In next releases we'll discuss these topics:

II. Trading, i.e. exchange proper functionality.
III. Shareholder voting, shareholder identification.
IV. Dividends.
V. Buybacks.

Stay tuned!

I'm going to sleep now, though...

Any ideas on those two subjects yet?

Trying to install Open-Transactions on *buntu is more than a challenge for non-coders. This bounty is for someone(s) to create a easy way to install Open-Transactions and MoneyChanger on *buntu using .deb.

As RSM has had enough investment to pay for 180(GH/s) of ASIC's and we will soon have all shareholders details.  Then I'm probably going to turn RSM into a private investors club.  I'll set up a spreadsheet to calculate everyone's dividends and once they reach a threshold of say at least BTC1.00 they will payout to your chosen wallet address.  RSM will still save 50% of profits for growth but will now save 5% of profits to buy back holders shares at BTC0.41 (tho that price is not set in stone yet) so everyone who has invested and wants to now get out and profit can do so.  We will also let people join the private miners Co-OP investment club for a reasonable price.  We are was looking on using coloured coins - (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117630.0) - to prove ownership of shares and to pay dividends but the projects are all still very early alphas.  So we are now thinking of using a Open-Transaction server for the asset - (https://github.com/FellowTraveler/Open-Transactions/wiki) - https://github.com/FellowTraveler/Moneychanger/wiki

Using Open-Transactions is not that plain newbie simple at the moment.  So our Admin Officer "jEli_bAby" is going to offer a brokerage service for people who don't want to use the OT software.  She will have a copy of my master shareholder list of people who want to use her service and forward your dividends on to a wallet address of your choice.  "jeli_bAby" can also arrange the buyback of your shares at BTC0.41 per share (before any brokerage fees) if you now we to sell your holdings.  If we ever issue new shares again you will also be able to buy them through her as well as on the OT server.  Her email for any questions is - melicat23@hotmail.co.uk - There will be a fee on arranging dividend payments for shareholders who use the brokerage service by "jeli_bAby" so maybe you want to contact her to work that out.  For shareholders who use the OT software to manage there own shares things will be like normal.

We are still looking at moving onto coloured coins, but all the projects are very early alphas and just as difficult to use as a OT server, but with a OT server the trading of shares and dividends automatically following them is auto.  Unlike 'coloured coins', so this will enable the anonymous trading of shares without me have to update dividend payment addresses.

OP updated again.

"Jelibaby" a shareholder from the start has offered to build and maintain a website for us that we can attract new investment for us,  She has also offered to work out our motions and do other general admin work.  So I'm going to offer her the admin job at 1% salary.  Tho please remeber salaries will not start being paid until the month after we have received our third pre-ordered ASIC.

I'll think about the job offer and I may also be able to set up a brokerage site for RSM to raise investment. People can then buy and sell their shares there without using 'coloured coins'/OT. I'm not sure on the fees to run a brokerage for you yet but its something I could look into.

Regards.

OK, your right I'm sure a lot of people won't/can't be bothered to use 'coloured coins' or OT depending on what we use.  If you can offer low enough fees to new investors this could be beneficial to RSM.  As you may be helping to bring in new investment I'll offer you a cut of my 5% salary of new share issues as a start but you'll make most of your coin from brokerage I suppose.

Excellent.

May I remind you the salary for the admin is up to review by all shareholders.  I know you've been with us since before the IPO but you are a minor shareholder.  Also the offer to provide shareholders who can't or don't want to use 'coloured coins' or a Open-Transaction server is a good idea but it doesn't look like any new shares will be created until into next year and then only after a motion.  We did offer to save 5% of dividends to buy back shares from holders who now wanted to get out of RSM after the GLBSE closure.  As our admin that is now your job to arrange but now one has contacted me about it yet.

Any issuers interested?

Maybe you could demo your assets first on the OTdemo server, see if you can even get enough people to set up clients to make OT a workable solution for them?

-MarkM-

Would you help me.  Also I was thinking of setting up a brokerage service for people who couldn't use OT.

Hi I think coloured coins may be still to a immature project for us to use.  I was thinking maybe we could set up our own OT server.  Which could also be on I2p and Tor so people can trade anonymously.  Also I could get a website set up for us and offer a brokerage service for people who don't want or can't use OT.  We could also use the website to attract new investment.

Any views?

1236  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Possible litecoin mining on RaspberryPi GPU now they've opensourced the driver? on: October 24, 2012, 06:05:34 PM
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/2221

Today we have some really big news, which is going to mean a lot to many programmers in our community who have been asking about it ever since launch. This is one of those announcements that has been in the pipeline for quite some time, but we haven’t been able to talk about it until now.

As of right now, all of the VideoCore driver code which runs on the ARM is available under a FOSS license (3-Clause BSD to be precise). The source is available from our new userland repository on GitHub. If you’re not familiar with the status of open source drivers on ARM SoCs this announcement may not seem like such a big deal, but it does actually mean that the BCM2835 used in the Raspberry Pi is the first ARM-based multimedia SoC with fully-functional, vendor-provided (as opposed to partial, reverse engineered) fully open-source drivers, and that Broadcom is the first vendor to open their mobile GPU drivers up in this way. We at the Raspberry Pi Foundation hope to see others follow.

As you’ll see from the diagram above, everything running on the ARM is now open source. So, what does this mean to the average Raspberry Pi user? Aside from being exciting to FOSS enthusiasts for philosophical reasons, it’s also going to make it much easier for third party developers to (for instance) implement Wayland EGL client and EGL server support, or to provide better integration of GLES/VG with X.Org. We look forward to working with the relevant communities on this. It should also now be easier, with appropriate cleanup, to get the vchiq messaging system integrated in to the upstream Linux kernel, which is another goal we are keen to work with the community on achieving.

The open sourcing of the userland libraries is of course going to be massively helpful to those of you who have been either actively porting or wanting to use alternate operating systems on the Raspberry Pi. We’ve been excitedly following the progress of FreeBSD, NetBSD, Plan9, RISC OS, Haiku and others. All these projects could now potentially port these libraries and make use of the full hardware accelerated graphics facilities of the Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi could not have existed without the massive body of Free and Open Source Software we use and build upon. We are delighted to have been involved in giving back to the community in this way, and hope many of you find it useful. I’d like to give a big thank you to Broadcom for being the first vendor to take this step forward, a significant step for the embedded Linux community and the wider FOSS community interested in embedded GPUs.

1237  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The bitcoin mineathon for charity on: October 24, 2012, 06:38:59 AM
I had this idea to 1. Help people in need and 2. Raise awareness of bitcoin.

We would every year have a week long mineathon. Where you give up your hash power for charity!
We would donate along as the charity lets us have a thank you on their site to the bitcoin miners and a link to a
Bitcoin website. There is two ways this can be done. We create a special pool with no pay per share. Or we get people to direct their miners to the charities login on a good mining pool.

It would be great if the people with a thash setup would donate just 10 minutes of mining time each day it runs! People could just donate if they wanted. I just think it would be nice to raise awareness of the bitcoin.
If people could post charities and which system to mine with it would be great.
This is a bitcoin commitee project. More about the bitcoin committee in the projects section the the forums.

I like the idea of using bitcoin mining for benevolence to raise awareness of bitcoin.  You should be able to choose which charities to donate to.  Maybe someone could just start a webpage showing how much bitcoiner's have donated to charity in general.

I've converted the £180 VAT cash back into bitcoin as it is no longer needed for paying import VAT.  So our new wallet balance is BTC46.89898951 and the actual wallet addresses are on the new spreadsheet done by Evolvex - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AolvfZ07D-3SdHBuaGcxRUw3SEkwTzUyVXVqUzRPZFE&pli=1#gid=0 - So that means we are about half way to our fourth ASIC which will take us up from 160(GH/s) over 2344 shares or 76.79(MH/s)per share to 240(GH/s) over 2344 shares or 102.389(MH/s)per share.  Which should increase profits by around ~25%.  Once we have saved enough for our fifth ASIC we will be at 300(GH/s) over 2344 shares or 127.986(MH/s)per share.  Which is about another 25% increase in profits.

Can you all see why its so important that we are saving 50% of profits for reinvestment by buying more ASIC's.  I'm even in favour of rising the reinvestment fund all the way up to 90% of profits.  As each new ASIC we buy greatly increases profits.  Although I know you all want to see some dividends being paid again.  So I won't put forward the motion of increasing the growth fund until we have all three of our pre-ordered ASIC's and have paid some dividends.

On another note as we have a large amount of bitcoins that is only going to grow in amount I'm going to purchase a Yubikey to secure our wallet.  They only cost $25 - https://store.yubico.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3 - and don't worry our coins are not held on MtGox but on blockchain.info hybrid wallet.  So they don't have access to our wallet and copy is also kept and updated to my 'Google Drive'.
