1221  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problem, why is fiat difficult to hold. on: June 23, 2023, 12:26:51 AM
I'm really not sure what you're talking, kind of hard to understand your english..but I think it might just be a more personal thing with spending than anything else.  Maybe your country/where you live also has something to do with it, perhaps?

I find money easier to hold than ever.  At least here in the United States banks are pretty secure.  We've got all sorts of money transfer apps, easy access to ATMs etc.
1222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: June 23, 2023, 12:23:24 AM
I can't stand either of these mother fuckers to say the least, even though I think Mark Zuckerburg is a 100 x worse of a human being , and that's saying a lot because I think Musk is a scumbag..but if I had to pick a winner, I think Mark Zuckerburg would take him out.  I believe Mark is a black belt.  Now whether that's fully earned or not I'm not sure, but I just think he's younger and in better shape and that Elon is a huge pussy.  Just my 2 satoshis.
1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hold Bitcoin VS Hold Gold on: June 23, 2023, 12:20:49 AM
This has been brought up about ten billion times here at least since I've been a member of the forum, some 6 years ago or so.  As I've said over and over again, as someone who works in finance, the right answer to this questions is maybe neither, or maybe both.

Diversification is key, that's what it's all about.  One must always have a foundational portfolio put together before they buy hedge assets and risky assets like gold and bitcoin.  So there's no just one flat answer to be had here.
1224  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you cheat in gambling? on: June 23, 2023, 12:18:13 AM
I guess it all depends on exactly what you would consider cheating.  If it were something like you were able to find an edge on a certain game that gave you an advantage that might be considered cheating such as say "card counting", then maybe that's something I'd consider because I don't consider that cheating.

However if it were straight up cheating, no thanks. Not only does that go against my moral code, you also might have to deal with some serious repercussions, some that might mean you life.
1225  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 23, 2023, 12:17:16 AM
Anyone else also watching the draft right now?  No shock seeing Victor Wembanyama going number one overall, of course..but it should be pretty exciting to see how these next few picks play out.  There's some great players in this draft outside of Victor!

I am wondering if my Chicago Bulls are going to try and pull anything off tonight.  There's been some talk of them trading Zach Lavine tonight for a high pick.  They seem to be in no mans land right now, so I think I'm okay with that to be honest.
1226  Economy / Economics / Re: Methods to cut food costs on: June 22, 2023, 12:18:03 AM
This is a great topic Hydrogen!  I'm surprised I'm just now seeing it.

Cutting costs when it comes to food/fuel/energy ...things of this nature is something I'm very in to.  I use a lot of the methods that you've pointed out.  My grocery store has an app and a fuel savers rewards program, and I'm constantly taking advantage of it.

I always check the local papers for coupons.  I will also always do a google search before I buy anything to make sure I can't find it at a lower cost.

Buying in bulk is something that has saved me a lot of money.  For example I buy a 36 cans of Monster Energy instead of just buy 1 or 2 at a time, and that's saved me a ton of money since I drink them for work fairly often.

Walgreen a pharmacy/grocery store here in the States will often print out coupons when you go there that are  "Spend $40, get $10 in store credit".  What I do is buy $40 worth of toilet paper and paper towels and stock up.  Anytime I get the chance to make this deal, I do.  Those $10 in store credits add up!

Wal-Mart has good credit cards with great savings being passed back for food purchases.

I will think of some others and post them here as they come to me.  But great thread!
1227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Asset Or Currency? on: June 22, 2023, 12:09:14 AM
People have been asking this same question over and over on here over the year and my answer is always the same, and always has been..it's both and asset and a currency.  Currency of ANY kind is an asset.  Anything of value , is an asset.  Just like fiat currency, it's an asset and can be used to buy things ( a currency ).   Bitcoin is an asset, and it can be used to buy thing ( a currency).

There's only one correct answer here and that answer is bitcoin is both an asset and currency, period.
1228  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who is to be blamed, the gambler or the betting agent on: June 22, 2023, 12:05:23 AM
A situation occurred today in my locality,  I have some guys working for me today and suddenly I hard them battling with an issues and when I get close to them to know what exactly the problem is,  and I asked the guy who look strange to me since I am meeting him for the first time and not a worker on the site what his business and why he is distracting the workers from work.

Then the guy narrated his case to be and he said,  that one of the workers came to his betting shop the yesterday to play some visual,  that at first the guy came with ₦‎1,000 in my local currency to make the bets and along the line, he existed the balance but as a regular customer,  the agent decided to allow him at further on credits and in all he accumulated a total debt of ₦‎8,000 because he lost all the bets and since that yesterday he has been on the run from the gambling agent until he traced him to the site today.

So when I wanted to judge the case and possible settlement,  I query the casino agent how can you allow a customer to gamble on credit to the tune of 8k Knowing fully well that the gambler only has a 1k balance which already existed?

Also what is the probability that the gambler will ever return after owning such debt in the betting shops,  note the gambler's daily pay is 2k as a helper on the site,  so he has to work for 4 days to be able to meet that debt that is if he doesn't make any other expenses.

Question is:

What is the possibility of the betting agent getting his money soon/considering the gambler's low-income earnings?

They are both at fault here, but in two different ways.  First, the gambler is at fault because he made a deal/contract to pay back the funds that he gambled.  It doesn't matter whether he won or lost, he owed those funds to the casino manager/store owner, plain and simple.

Now the store owner/gambling boss made a poor decision allowing the guy to take out credit that he knew he'd probably have a hard time giving back to him if he didn't win his bets.  That's just dumb on his part to loan out the money.

But the gambler is 100% at fault here.
1229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: would you play more on casino when your country plans to ban BTC? on: June 22, 2023, 12:01:33 AM
So basically you're asking us to incriminate ourselves here lol.  I have always been the type of person and been of the type of mind that if something is not morally wrong, yet my government has laws against it or bans it, then I'll probably still do  "it", whatever "it" is, if I think that it's in my "god given" right to do so.  I'm of the mind that the government needs to stay out of our business, and this would be no different gambling wise.
1230  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: June 21, 2023, 11:58:53 PM
@nutildah... so it is a league NFT/Ordinal that you're planning? I think that would be sweet. I'm not a huge NFT guy by any means ( I think they are a lot of potential utility, but aren't being used for that kind of stuff) but I would like to see one made maybe.  Be kind of cool having one for each member of the league, or maybe for just the winner, or both..curious to hear your ideas.

So in 2014 I registered all the NFL team names as Counterparty tokens (except for BEARS b/c that one was already taken) and tried to run a game where peeps buy the token of the team they think is going to win the Super Bowl, and then if that team wins they can cash in their token for a share of a prize pool. The main problems were:

 - there was almost no crossover between Counterparty users and NFL fans, and
 - despite there being a DEX involved, the game was still dependent on me to honor the prize payouts.

I think this time around it would be much more successful. Am still theorizing how best to execute it.

Having a full-on fantasy league with tokens for individual players would be extraordinarily expensive, even if transaction fees come down; not to mention potential legal issues from likeness rights and all that.

It would be fun as hell though. I could do it on Dogeparty for a fraction of the cost but it would take days to create all the draft-able player tokens  Cheesy

You could execute player swaps via the wallet DEX & buy and sell players for DOGE, but points would have to be calculated manually. It could be automated using their API but damn it'd be a huge hassle, basically re-creating via blockchain what a fantasy football platform already does instantly. The upside is you actually _own_ your players. That's about it.

Oh wow, so I wasn't even close in my guess as to what you were referring to lol. I have to be honest, I'm not that sharp when it comes to cryptography and all aspects outside of the main stuff (what's a blockchain, a satoshi etc ), but this sounds fun to me.  Anything football /fantasy football and crypto...I'm always going to be all ears.

On a side note, let's say none of that ends up being implemented, it would be cool to make NFTs for league winners, maybe a weekly NFT for high scorer , stuff like that.  Sound interesting at all?

Damn, I have not read this thread for some time since real life has been kind of intense lately and I even missed the whole draft for the first time in like 30 years or so, and even if the activity has been on the low side I am surprised to see NFTs could become part of our new league.

All what I can say about it is if that is the direction that we will take then I am all-in.

And about whether to have a 10 or 12 player league, @seek3r showed interest on joining the league some time ago, if they are still interested we may only need one more person to reach 12 players this season.

Damn these Fantasy Teams look like a lot of fun.. I dont have any experience with this but if I'm right you are using the Fantasy Football Manager from yahoo?

Would like to know if its possible to get on board for the next regular season?

We really should do 12 teams.  It's much more fun that way.
1231  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Lealana King K Friday 6/16 Ebay Sale on: June 20, 2023, 11:08:41 PM
there was not much demand

My my how times have changed. Let's see another run of these in a 0.01 denomination!

These were released right around the time I joined the forum.  I remember there not being much demand.  Since I was brand new to the forum, I just didn't really know what was smart to buy and what wasn't...when I'm spending a bunch of bitcoin for that is, otherwise anything that was cheap I was buying it back then.

I probably screwed myself making this post since I put in an offer for one of the others and they were gone shortly after.  I would have gone up on my offer of course.

Maybe one day.

Bump

Haha, I still remember. The problem is, I can't get one myself yet. My bank won't allow me to use it without a Chinese National ID...for now. I know they were used at the Olympics, but I don't know how and if that was a special case or not.

I don't know what you're willing to share and what you're not, but are you saying that you'll be getting a Chinese National ID and once you do, then you'll be able to get one of these?

Do you know if there's only one version of these cards being made?  Do they all have a name on them?

Would be awesome if you were able to talk someone in to selling theirs.. I will pay up Smiley   I appreciate you keeping this in mind still.

Okay sorry I'm being lazy here, too many things I want to reply to and too much copy/pasting of code so I'm going to be lazy lol..

I think this would be kinda cool made as an NFT  Smiley  ...

@morevillz7z...  I looked in to best ball leagues one time because I kept hearing it being talked about on the fantasypro's podcast, but I didn't seem fun to me for some reason, I just can't remember why.  That said, I'm a team player and typically always up for any league, so I'll probably be interested in doing whatever you decide on.

We are getting close !!!!!
1234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 20, 2023, 10:48:44 PM
Anyone else getting excited for the NBA draft on Thursday June 22? I always love the NBA draft over most other drafts being that there is only two rounds, so you pretty much know anyone in round 1 or 2 could easily become and NBA star one day.

Lucky for the Spurs getting the number 1 pick.  I don't know much about Victor Wembanyama, but I do know he's hands down the number one prospect since Lebron, which is of course saying something.

That being said, Lebron is the most hyped prospect of all time...is Victor number 2?
1235  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do gambling addicts bother about the consequences of their actions? on: June 20, 2023, 10:41:36 PM
Unfortunately there are a lot of people who simply can't control themselves when it comes to gambling and it can quite often affect others around them, which is where the real problems lie.

1. Do gambling addicts ever take a second thought on what the consequences of their actions can be not just to them but on those close to them?  Some do, some don't, sometimes they can't help it though.  The ones who can't help it (they are truly addicted) I do feel bad for.

2. Do they in reality genuinely feel any remorse about  how those affected by their actions might be feeling?  Again, some do, some don't, just depends on each particular individual.

3. Or, are they a dispassionate victim of their own uncontrollable addictive gambling lifestyle?  See above answers.

Does the MLS actually have any sort of legit future now, or is this just another one off with the Messi deal?  I know Messi is considered top 3 anyway you shake it, many believe him to be the goat. But  I also know he's not in his prime, of course, but is he still a top 5 or so guy? I know when Beckham came over to the MLS he wasn't a megastar in Europe any longer  (not sure if he ever even was?) so that wasn't really a big deal to most of us Americans (was for the media, but not most people).  Basically same deal with Kaka /Zlatan coming to the MLS right? Weren't they all well out of their prime?

Just curious is this is the best player by far to ever come to the MLS, and if he's still got a few prime years left?

Just curious if anyone here won this auction and if you’re one willing to admit it, and two ..willing to say what your max bid was by chance ?  Smiley

I’m being nosy af and I obviously completely understand not wanting to share. But would love to know. I’ve been after a single buyer funded king K for a good mn. Be awesome to know just for historical purposes and “market setting”. ( Also be nice to know how short I was from winning lol).

Regardless, nice win 💪

Not sure if this link will work. eBay is funky w their links to auctions/items that have already closed (edit, trying to find a workable link).

1240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges on: June 18, 2023, 10:20:16 PM
All of them are pretty shitty. For the most part they are scammers and corrupt as all Fuck. Especially Coinbase. However as long as you make sure that you take your money off of that exchanges you’ll be okay. Sign up for a few of them, then see who has the Lowest commissions/fees and buy from that one at the time and then move your coins to a hardware wallet.
