12281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This just in: Roger Ver can't even transact bitcoin properly on: May 01, 2016, 09:59:46 AM
Thats the point of free market. If we had unlimited limit, you could try 1GB block, but obviously this one would not make it to the longest chain today because 1) current miner software could not handle it 2) before downloaded and validated, much smaller block would win instead.
Thats why free market solves otherwise complicated decisions naturally.
By the time that, this so called "free market" decides what size is wrong and which one is right Bitcoin would most likely end up dying. You should stop trying to spread this idea as it won't work, ever. Bitcoin needs to be resistant to change (as it was so far), else we would be having 1 MB today, 2 MB tomorrow, 42 million coins in 3 days. May I ask, what your definition of "free market" is?

You could make 0.5 MB limit and the cost for transaction gets to $16. Luke-jr would be happy...
The cost per TX will never be that high (in normal circumstances).

Anyhow, this seems to be off-topic as the thread is about Roger Ver.

3) Putting aside his poor coin control practices, of course, does he really know what he's talking about or might he have ulterior motives behind his complaints?
The answer to that is one word: Classic.
12282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly my peer list is full of classic nodes. on: May 01, 2016, 09:40:15 AM
I've just upgraded to 12.1, and now all the classic nodes have gone. I'm still on public WiFi, so I've only got 8 connections. It's good to hear that classic is in the decline. Smiley I guess I should put the temp classic density down to local activity then.
Well, their node count was on average around 2000 (0.12.0 Nodes), and has been slowly declining. Now it is under 1700. In case that you are not aware of this, you can ban any peer for up to 1 year quite easily within the software (just click on it).
12283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly my peer list is full of classic nodes. on: May 01, 2016, 09:10:16 AM
No, there haven't been any 'major news' aside from Segwit being release. Classic is pretty much dying (their node count is dropping). I've checked on my nodes, and while the number of connections did rise a bit higher (than it is usual), there are only 4 Classic nodes. The solution for this is to create a ban list with every Classic/XT node that you can find. I just haven't had the time for this and have banned one by one as they show up.
12284  Other / Meta / Re: Beta of new forum software now officially open on: May 01, 2016, 08:14:12 AM
I didn't knew about that , honestly I don't like the design at all so could you please link me where I should post on Github instead ?
Visuals are kind of subjective ATM. Some people will like it and others won't. You can file an issue here if you notice any bugs. Just keep in mind that you should read the list of already reported bugs, so that you don't end up creating duplicates.
12285  Other / Meta / Re: Beta of new forum software now officially open on: May 01, 2016, 07:58:40 AM
I just made a new topic on the New Forum software section , Hopefully people will use it . that way developers will have to visit one place in order to check for bugs , suggestions etc ... : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1456167.new#new
I disagree with this one even though I appreciate the effort. If anything, you should do this on the new forum and not here. There was already a 'Master Bug' thread, but the bug list got moved to Github. This way the developers would have to check both forums in addition to Github (which is more than redundant).
12286  Other / Meta / Re: Graffitti to unban Dank! (Gleb Gamow on crack) on: May 01, 2016, 07:06:54 AM
Wrong. The time last active field in a user's profile is nothing more then when they were last logged into their account. A user can get unbanned without accessing their account and in many cases can access their account when banned.
No, you're wrong (as in, your assumption). I was not talking about the 'last time active' field on his profile, but the last time that he had posted.

I think he is banned for trolling. But I missed the posts of dank. His posts are really entertaining.
It is possible to become permanently banned even for trolling (even though some tend to think otherwise).

That is a bit strange. While I'm not familiar with any kind of 'automation' here, whenever I press the button I get the following:
Code:
[list]
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
[/list]
After which it is easy to just type within the lines. What browser are you using?

Ver may have screwed up here, but the case for 2mb blocks remains, no?
Not really, no.

oh come on,he just complaining about block size,
Nothing surprising there.

Its pretty stupid some people try to artifically define Bitcoin with setting arbitrary choosen parameters regardless of what market thinks.
Your presented logic: Let's just let the market decide on a 1 GB block-size limit, because why not? Roll Eyes

er, is that you Rog? Tongue Bit touchy on this subject, eh Franky?
Did you not know that both of them are "Bitcoin experts"?

12293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I bought games from steam thread on: April 30, 2016, 04:38:24 PM
I'm not a gamer (is that unusual around here?)
Not necessarily. Just because some people tend to sometimes play games, I would not call them gamers. Everyone gets their fair share of entertainment in one way or another. Some just like spending time in-game via Steam.

but it's nice to see that steam is accepting bitcoin and that you had a relatively problem-free experience.
I don't think that some realize just how huge Steam is.

So you might be interested in Piranha Bytes games, they created series like Gothic and Risen.
I'll look into it. The others have been beaten long ago. Are these games listed on Steam?

Call me paranoid but I don't fully trust sites like g2a or instant gaming. here's probably low risk to get scammed, but I think it's better to buy it from the real deal (the steam platform) and have a peace of mind that the key delivered is yours and only yours and has never been owned by anyone else.
That does seem a bit paranoid. If the key is used by you, it usually can't be used by anyone else.
12294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Address recieves 2800 BTC within 24 hours (and why we need CT and Coinjoin) on: April 30, 2016, 03:46:18 PM
Lol dude, gmaxwell is smarter than both us
No, I've already told you not to include me in these statements (as you don't know me, and barely "know" Maxwell).

Stop thinking Bitcoins privacy is good enough otherwise we would never improve it with that mentality.
Wrong. It is not a urgent problem and can wait. Besides, Bitcoin can not become 100% anonymous (if this was possible) if you want it to remain legal. Don't you think that there are more urgent things to do?

this is a little misleading because it is no where near the final balance
It was very misleading.

Confidental Transactions or Coinjoin would not help him to get more privacy if he keep reusing the same address again and again !
Do you even know how CT is supposed to work?
12295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I bought games from steam thread on: April 30, 2016, 03:29:23 PM
it depends on your taste, the most popular game that everybody loves is CS:GO you might even have it,
my expenses on steam is only buying Dota2 items these days (dota2 is free). you can also buy CS:GO items.
No. That is mainstream 'trash' that is very easy (i.e. 'newbie' friendly).

another game that i loved playing is dark souls 1 and 2 and haven't bough 3 yet (it is expensive Cheesy) if you like to die buy DS
Now these are good recommendations. DS 3 is already on Steam? I haven't logged in for a while. It might be worth buying DS1 and DS2 with Bitcoins on the next sale.

Without some more info there is really hard to suggest a game for you. You have to specify what genres you are preferring.
Major titles (I have limited time), preferably challenging. The genre isn't that much important (albeit there are favorites, e.g. ES series).
12296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I bought games from steam thread on: April 30, 2016, 01:06:17 PM
I am not so sure about that - G2A - a major Steam, Orgin and Uplay keys reseller was accepting Bitcoin long before Steam started to do this.
Well, they are a 'huge' re-seller, and I was not talking about them (in addition to having Origin and Uplay games; both don't support Bitcoin).

But I think that smaller independent services like https://steambitshop.com/ will have hard time surviving.
This is what I was talking about. The niche market for these services is gone.

In case that someone missed my question:
Do you have any (game) recommendations?
12297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This just in: Roger Ver can't even transact bitcoin properly on: April 30, 2016, 01:01:54 PM
I've addressed most of the points made in this thread in the forum that isn't censored.
Just by implying that this one is censored (when it isn't), makes you lose credibility.

Quote
When there was essentially no block size limit, free transactions would still confirm quickly because there was plenty of extra room in the blocks for them. If we had even a 2MB maximum block size today, that would likely still be the case today.
Completely wrong. A 2 MB block size limit would achieve nothing, someone could just turn on their spam machine again (which tends to happen) and flood the blockchain with 'almost-free' transactions. No matter what block size limit you use, it won't help mitigate this.

Quote
In my specific transaction above, I was using older wallet software that calculated the required fee as zero for a transaction that in the past would have easily been confirmed with zero fee
Again, the issue is with your usage of Bitcoin, not Bitcoin itself.

strange how no-one seems to frequent your forum very much, eh Roger?
Very strange indeed.

12298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I bought games from steam thread on: April 30, 2016, 12:26:30 PM
So I agree there has been an awful lot of spam regarding Valve's recent Bitcoin implementation on Steam, so how about we keep all news items and posts about it located in one thread?
Then I highly advise you to start a self-moderated thread or else you will experience a lot of spam in your thread as well.

Just this week by the way, I successfully bought The Culling from Steam with no problems, the only thing I've found is that the bitpay links don't work because of the platform's browser.
I haven't had time nor reason (no specific games that I want) to try it out yet. The last time that I did buy some games with Bitcoin was via some website that sold Steam games. I assume that these websites will run out of business now as there is no need to indirectly buy these games. Do you have any recommendations?
12299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This just in: Roger Ver can't even transact bitcoin properly on: April 30, 2016, 12:08:42 PM
There's a difference between actually being called something and proclaiming to be it. Roger did the latter, he's the self-proclaimed Bitcoin Jesus.
The community can do something about that. I have no idea why would anyone listen to him at this point.

Have you ever heard of coin control? Neither has Roger.
Nicely said. Don't you love it when inexperienced users try to tell you "what's right"?

Lightning Network is an altcoin is not true. its not an alt coin for sure. Grin
It has no separate blockchain, ergo it is not an altcoin. People who claim that it is an altcoin have no idea what they're talking about.

Roger's fault is that he blamed the block size limit instead of blockchain.info but stating that "he tried to spend an unconfirmed input" is not true.
No. His fault is that he doesn't know how to use Bitcoin. He's trying to manipulate people into accepting Classic.
12300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why you enable 2FA. on: April 30, 2016, 11:25:01 AM
Step 1) Don't let 'mates' or anyone use your machines. Else you get "viruses" by accident.
Step 2) Don't use online wallets unless you really have to, otherwise do what OP has suggested (even though I still don't recommend online wallets).
Step 3) Let this be a lesson to those that have insecure wallets.
