12321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is The Lightning Network ? on: April 29, 2016, 08:08:20 AM
Lightning network might help scale Bitcoin, but not by much in my opinion. The problem is it scales based on the two factors

1) how long your willing to lock your Bitcoins (the longer the better potential scaling, but the concept of depositing equivalent of several thousand $ to be able to spend anytime at let say starbuck for the next half year is so out of normal people behaviour who dont have big wealth reserves and just living from day to day with their expences)

2) the number of people willing to use such pre deposit and lock Bitcoins for longer period method
This doesn't necessarily have to be true. If Alice opens a channel with a Coffee Shop, that does not mean that Alice won't be able to pay anyone outside of it (hubs, wallet routing?). There isn't much different to keeping your coins within LN than keeping them in your wallet (if the infrastructure is there). Read (example of wallet routing, not hubs):

Again, the exact features have yet to be fully decided and implemented.

What I meant is , the blockchain (the 45gb file or whatever the current size) will have his size increased just like now ?
It will continue to increase at a similar pace as it is doing now.

having multiple transactions in one TX won't change that ?
What multiple transactions? You only need 1 TX to settle.

Update: Several corrections.
12322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is The Lightning Network ? on: April 29, 2016, 07:53:35 AM
I see , It sounds nice honestly but taht doesn't mean that the size of the blockchain won't increase right ?
It does not mean that indeed. However, technically you don't need to increase it (yet) as LN at 1 MB can accommodate a lot of users.

even if there is different transaction in one TX blockchain size should increase ?
What does this mean?

so we should see this updates with SegWit , means Bitcoin Core 0.12.2 ?
Segwit should come within 0.12.X (either 2 or three). I have no idea how they are going to finalize LN at the moment. There are multiple implementations and the advanced ones will come to some sort of agreement on the exact parameters.

P.S. Ignore the two posters under your post (pointless posts due to signature).
12323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is The Lightning Network ? on: April 29, 2016, 07:16:06 AM
Well, I don't think that the definition of LN (e.g. LN is X) has been used widely and even if you try searching for it you might fail to find one. The Lightning Network is supposed to represent complex, bi-directional payment channels. The idea behind it is that e.g. Alice and Bob open up a payment channel between them and lock X amount of funds (this process currently takes ~30 minutes, i.e. 3 confirmations) in it. What makes Lightning so 'special' here (in the terms of scalability) is that it enables a theoretically infinite amount of transactions between Alice and Bob without bloating the blockchain (imagine 1 million transactions between two partners, and only a single TX to settle on the main chain). Transacting within the LN is both instant and trust.less. It might even improve privacy at some point as there are potential unknown use cases.

If it's the case then when we are supposed to see it ?
IIRC someone said that a working implementation should be available soon (I assume beta).
12324  Economy / Collectibles / Re: interest check: aluminum, steel, titanium cold storage cards (BIP38) on: April 29, 2016, 07:09:43 AM
Interesting. It really comes down to how they look and feel. I'm certain that if the storage card is of greater quality that you will have no problem finding sellers. I'd definitely buy one (in that case) as well. When can we expect to see some sketches (should you choose to go forward with this)?

12327  Other / Meta / Re: What is necrobumping and unsubstantial posts? on: April 28, 2016, 10:53:47 PM
When necrobumping occurs on this forum, IMO, 95% of the time it is inappropriate.
The percentage is probably even higher in reality (I also recall deleting quite a number of these over time). Another bad factor here is that once someone resurrects this thread there is a chance that it will be noticed by signature spammers (who do not notice the date due to their swiftness) and thus an (usually) 'useless' discussion takes place.

If a thread has been abandoned for a sufficient amount of time, its probably for a reason.
Exactly.

12329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congratulations to Valve and BitPay - that's what we need to hear on: April 28, 2016, 09:16:15 PM
It's clear that Valve finally woke up to the reality of things here and realized the fact that they would never get a worldwide public buying games unless they accepted Bitcoin, because traditional banking will never alow for worldwide payments in those remote areas.
I disagree with this statement because it is based on a generalization. You can't really know whether they've 'realized' something or not, nor can you know whether traditional banking will allow payments from remote areas. This might be true but we can't say for certain whether it is.

I mean it's pretty crazy to think that you can buy games no anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.
In theory, yes.

Before this news broke, I was thinking that we need more BTC adoption and that adoption rates were not as fast as I hoped.
Stop being greedy. 1 BTC is always equal to 1 BTC.

12332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congratulations to Valve and BitPay - that's what we need to hear on: April 28, 2016, 07:17:20 PM
The interesting fact here is that Valve reached out to them (if true). I initially thought that it was vice-versa (I do remember some statement 2-3 years ago about not wanting to deal with Bitcoin).

“While more users are coming online in in these countries, traditional payment options like credit cards often aren’t available.”
This is why Bitcoin is quite good. It is always worth noting that it is cheaper than traditional payment options (however, acquiring it might not be (e.g. exchange fees)).
12333  Other / Meta / Re: Beta of new forum software now officially open on: April 28, 2016, 07:13:45 PM
What i want is a link to view my own topics i created.
I think that was suggested already (or something similar). The forum, in the current state, does not have such a feature.

Also want to point out how i had the Drafts page bookmarked manually.
(there is no link to it on your profile page)
There is a link under "Post" and "Preview" when one is writing a post (albeit it is small).

12335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New SegWit stats? on: April 28, 2016, 05:24:56 PM
I think SegWit is a big deal. Why do you think it will be released during a minor version? It is the biggest change for many years.
Maybe because I do an adequate amount of research before posting? The developers have stated that it is coming within a minor version and that other things are planned for 0.13. Keep in mind that the next major version isn't going to to be released soon (the aim is 6-7 months after each major release). I would also like to add that I can't be 100% certain in this case.
12336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be divided beyond satoshis? on: April 28, 2016, 02:59:35 PM
If anything can be changed in the code, than is it possible to increase total supply beyond 21M?
Adding additional division units != adding additional supply. To increase the monetary supply of Bitcoin would require a hard fork with near unanimous consensus. Most of the people hate even the thought of the idea.

And if it is, doesn´t it mean bitcoin is a weak currency doomed to fail?
No.

12339  Economy / Services / Re: English - Croatian Translation Service ( with samples) on: April 28, 2016, 10:09:14 AM
Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
No problem.

Yes, I tried to adjust those sentences to fit as more as I could to the style of the Croatian language. English and Croatian are quite different in the grammar and style ( a lot) so it sounds more natural and more fluent if I use a modified form instead of a direct translation. It can be done in direct form but then it would sound  maybe even a little bit rough.
This is why I've noted that it can be ignored due to the nature of the language, so that people do not get the false impression.

I will continue to post a variety of the samples because this assessment really boost my work drive. Thank you!
Once/if you post those, notify me and I'll see what I can do (would probably just update the previous post).
