any find amd 6800 or amd 6800xt

Microcenter by me only received ten 6800... no 6800xt.. so the campers got them  Shocked

Saves me the headache of driving 20 miles there and back and waiting in line just to have them say sorry. I guess I'll just pick up some 5600s on CyberMonday. It's just like the auto industry - they really have no incentive to lower prices because inventory is so low. Sucks for people who like to work hard and play hard.

I spent some time every day for 2 months in order to get my 3 evga 3080 orders in.

One was cancelled. first one is chugging along second one comes today.

So 60 days maybe 20 minutes a day = 1200 minutes of my time 20 hours is a lot of time to be able to order some cards.

And 1 is going to be cancelled.

So far I have killed about an hour trying to get the new amd cpus   I did not get one
and I spent about an hour trying to get new amd gpus I did not get one.

this is around 22 hours of time to order 2 gpus at a small premium

I have a space issue more then a power issue so 80+ mh cards are more attractive to me right now.

I have room for 50-60 cards. if they average 80mh I have 60 x 80 = 4.8gh

if they average 40mh I have 60 x 40 = 2.4 gh

I have power issues.  popped the main circuit breaker a few times during the summer.  Shocked
I'm currently doing 3.2 gh  ethash

I am pulling over 100kwatts at the farm we could do 240kwatts

but getting the gear has been tough to do this year.

by the way

what are the conditions to get a hat?

So I looked at your posts back till August.

I like some I gave you 6 merits. brings you to 30

Others should bother to look at them as they are decent enough to get more merits then what I gave to you

What I like about this month's big pump is that the few dumps that attempted to destroy it were quickly eaten out. This shows a strong upward momentum, which I hope will soon take us to ATH and beyond.

It's dumping again as I type this... Let's see... Will the above hold true?

In any case, I would still HoDL and wait.

I am happy I sold 2 pieces

1 piece  at 17900 and 1 piece at 18200

12388  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: November 18, 2020, 01:34:33 PM
So we peaked at about 18500 last night.

A sell off to about 17200

and we are now at 18000 or so.

diff is surging up 14%.

If price holds or goes up diff will go up.

My garage is no longer a mining spot as my summer power is 17 cents and add 2 cents for extra cooling.

In the winter price is 14 cents and subtract 4 cents for heat benefit so 10 cent net.

I am test running 2 units aBout 90 th pulling 5k-watts

This comes to 3600 kwatts a month or 360 usd for power.

At .13 cents a th this gear makes 11.70 a day or 351 a month.

So if a 10 cent place is right on the border of break even with 55 watt a th gear.

People will simply turn gear on.

my evga arrived today. mixed caps.

dead solid at 94.5mh

230 watts no issues.

the asus tuf has one cap not mixed.

what a cap does you would realize the problem is

470u vs 220u

means the 470u filters lower frequency better.

and the 220u filters higher frequency better.

so if you have one or the other you miss a section of frequency noise which cause more heat.

If you have both sizes like the evga has it works on both sets of frequencies which means less heat on the ram.

every model with all caps the same sucks

and models like evga with both caps work better.

Since soldering new caps is next to impossible for most people putting in really good thermal pads will help
somewhat.

But don’t  buy a 3080 unless it has mixed caps.

12391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: November 18, 2020, 04:24:13 AM
how about trimming back to 20 instead of 100?

The preference in the thread has been for more days.

What would be ideal is a "spoiler" tag, so that less pertinent rows could be hidden by default, but hell will freeze over before we see Theymos implement a new bbcode.

I am glad that you, yefi, are providing more information, even though it is a bit more information to manage.. but in the end, that seems to be what most peeps, including yours truly, who are actively commenting in this thread want to see.

By the way, we have USD coming close to top 5, GBP, EUR and CAD entering into top 5 and the lagging JPY barely approaching top 20.... still nice to see all of those...

Some people probably would not mind seeing gold, DJI and maybe some other asset classes... but that would likely be another thread... even though could be some interesting comparisons in other assets, too... for sure.

hmm a metals thread 🧵

it would take work to do.

1 btc = 18k usd ..9.57oz gold .... 736.19oz silver .... 19.33oz platinum..... ? pallidum
12392  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: November 18, 2020, 03:02:35 AM
So a new streak for 15k is set today.

12 days in a row.

nov 6 to nov 17.

and we are still extending the first of the month streak

Nov 1 to Nov 17 over 13000.

Both are all time records.

The next big streak to break is 41 days over 12500

It ran from dec 2017 to Jan 2018
12393  Economy / Speculation / Re: My 'vast' BTC hodl on PayPal on: November 18, 2020, 02:45:15 AM
This is the close to the same deal put in some cash and it grows. the interest so to speak is from the rise in btc value.

I don't know if that is a very good comparison, Philip.. because the BTC situation is far from guaranteed, even if we might place decently high odds upon BTC's ability to gain value in the coming years, especially relative to fiat.

well like i said close.

your risk for a christmas club is failing to do all your 50 payments and simply getting back what you put in.

49x 1 = 49 zero interest.

50 x 1 = 50 + 2 interest or 52 dollars.

with paypal

50x1 = 50 usd in and the btc value can go way up or way down.

so you could get 0 or 50 or 100 or even 1000.

so risk factors and possible gains or losses are different.

but the idea of simply placing 1 or 2 dollars when ever you can with almost no restrictions to deposit what ever and when ever . does allow for easy building of the asset.

in both cases building the pile is easy. that is what I am trying to convey.

try and buy stock for a ton of people it is hard.
try to buy btc from paypal. once they give you a chance to do so and approve your account it is really easy.

much like it was easy to put money into an old school christmas account.

yes is is a different animal you are feeding $$ to.

btc high risk with loss,or maybe large gain.

christmas club low risk low return

Send the tax man a check now. I had a friend cash out 200k in december 2017 he sold 11 coins at about 19k.

he let the cash burn a hole in his pocket.  decided to buy back in when coins dropped to 10k and then did not have any cash to pay the tax man.

If your tax bill is 400k at least send in 200k don’t  fuck around.

Current max tax rate in US for long-term gains is 20%.

one would wish this were true... don't forget to add in the Net Investment Income Tax (an additional 3.8%) that kicks in somewhere between 200 and 400k

also don't forget most states want their cut also (in some states topping out over 12%)

between these two that 20% max just turned into 35%  Sad

It is why I am ball parking number  and telling him try to pay some like right now.  I know what happens when people's ship's come in.

I have seen two bankers fuck up really big money scores. pre tax 40 mill  and pre tax 20 mill

back when Clinton was letting the dot com market whale.  these two guys invested 500k and 1 million to a hot shot I am god day trader .

He ran the 500k to 20 mill in 5 years.
He ran the 1 mill to 40 mill in the same time.

I told both guys just cash ½ and drop it into 30 year t-bills which were about 8-9% yield .

after tax 10 mill would be 6 mill in t bills and earn 480-540k a year for 30 year 2029 to be exact
after tax 20 mill would be 12 mill in t bill and earn 960-1080k a year for 30 years 2029 to be exact.

and they still would have had

10 mill in stocks up for 500k
20 mill in stocks up from 1mlll

Their third friend turned 150k into 3 million.   he did sell 2 million of his stock and buy the bonds.

One of the hardest things to do is take profit properly.

boblawlaw is in the perfect spot to do it. I love to see someone do it right.

...did not have any cash to pay the tax man.
If your tax bill is 400k at least send in 200k don’t  fuck around.

I'm not concerned about my lack of discipline, with respect to touching the funds allocated for tax, but now that you mention it, don't you start to accrue penalties or something (interest owed ?) depending on when/how much you sell in the quarter ?

Don't feel like emailing my tax dude right now... Rick just asked why not wait until end of Q4 to pay tax ?

Current max tax rate in US for long-term gains is 20%.

Oh, fucking bonus ! Thought is was 23.8% or something (was at some point ?). That extra 3.8% will probably buy Rick a new gold codpiece he's been eyeing...

well you cashed in this quarter so technically you should pay a lot of your tax for 2020 by jan 15th

this is usa fed law. you can wait for that last payment date which is jan 15th.

lets pretend you normally make 200k  a year and pay 45k in fed tax.

this year lets pretend you made  that same 200k and were paying 11k a quarter. so you paid 33k and will need to pay 12k to get to 45k to square away the normal money and normal taxes.

so pretend the cash out was 2.5 mill. the basis was .5 mil and it is all long term so 2 mill x 20% is 400k

4qt payment is due by jan 15 2021.

say 12k + 400k = 412k will be due.

if you pay half now 206k
and pay 2nd half by jan 15th.

It works.
If you wait till Last minute to pay all money due jan 15th

life has a way of making problems.

btw have fun with the coin enjoy.

I am assuming you held more coin for the 25-30k cash out opportunity.😄

rough calculation the GPU runs at 70%-75% power (235/320tdp?).  That's good.  It costs a little bit more BTC per hash though vs 5700xt.  I would like to have my backorder filled Sad

I happy with short testing.

Looks like I can go to 230 watts and still stay in the 94.5mh number.

screen shots

set to
core -100
mem-ram 1500
watts 230

I had expected close to these numbers and for them to be stable.
Second card comes tomorrow.

This is a very weird feeling I am having right now, brothers.

Bitcoin is mooning, and I have zero desire to sell any further, after just pulling off that early retirement maneuver with Rick.

Already allocated most of the funds; "Smart Portfolios" for healthcare costs, for each of us, for the next 30-40 years or so, with money left over to buy a shit-tonne of acreage in North-East Texas, and cash left over for stupid shit. Maybe enough left over to build "Ranchero Lawblaw", but will evaluate once that time comes - need to keep a savage chunk for tax withholding.

Ffffff...

Onward to $18k USD/BTC, gentlemen.

#blessed

Is this whole bitcoin thing now in full FOMO mode? Asking for a friend.

My FOMO indicator is still at an all time LOW...

Family > Only 1 has asked me about it.
Friends > Only 1 has asked me about it. (same friend from last bull market)
Acquaintances > NONE

It does feel like May-June 2017 again!....

because 78k is the price needed to be equal to 2017 19900 price.

we simply are not at the right level for true fomo.

did you reduce the power usage by reducing voltage or setting a power limit?
Also, you can drop clocks all the way down, i have mine running at 1000 (-400).

Thats a big difference in efficiency between the 3080 and 3070. Probably due to the gddr6x?

okay I set watts

simple mining software

has

core  100 setting gives me 1395 reading for core
mem 1500 setting gives me 10001 reading for ram
watts 235 watts gives me a 235 soft ware and 274 at the wall

has has been solid at 94.77

I will drop core to 0 and see what happens next

core           =0
mem/ram   =1500
watts         =  235

seems to be at same watts and 94.77mh

so it is almost the same as 2x 5700xt's   which is good if space is an issue.
