Can anyone techy look at this?
There is someone who says 0.5.10 doesn't work well on Win 8: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3525.0.html

Might be a problem if it's true.
dgex on a fork  Shocked

That sounds like a swear from a '50s television show.

Please go to http://www.cryptmarketcap.com/ and vote for NXT to be listed there in the top right corner.
There is a concerted effort to keep NXT from being listed but we can out vote them.
If NXT is listed on that site and their android application, it will bring more recognition to NXT.

http://www.cryptmarketcap.com/

The concerted effort only gave them 10 extra votes in the last 30 minutes.
We got about 80 more in that time.

I'd say that's fairly effective Smiley

Usually it is a good thing to have a new member or competitor in the area, which is new for customers. That increases the total volume of the area and also the customers will have more alternatives. That "concept" is from more common products like cars, consumer electronics, ... why couldn't that work with currencies, too.

In general people dislike whatever they don't understand and haven't taken the time to investigate.
Tiring, but true.

I give it a few months and then a lot of people who now are against it will pretend to have loved it all along.

yes, one just must have patience. The same happens with actors or artists: when they just continue their career, doing the things, which they see important, then finally the "customers" accept them.

ok, so *that* were you talking on the first reply  Smiley

I've seen it happen to others. I was a fairly mediocre actor Smiley

Hm, still quite a lot of nodes that haven't upgraded to 0.5.10.
I even spot a 0.4.9e. :/

Question about transaction costs...

Is this going to be a problem in the future, is it always set at 1 NXT per transfer.

If the value of 1 NXT ever reaches.. let's say $8 USD.. wouldn't that be too much for a transaction cost?

It will be lowered once Nxt rises more.
This is already planned Smiley

The community will decide what it considers a good amount for costs.

You know, I actually love this plan.

Might be a good promo video Smiley

It will be a mocking video from one of our competitors if we don't do something about passphrase security soon...

Somehow I always picture you as some grumpy old man.

Let's keep it brewing for awhile and then gather all the ideas, analyse them and create a concrete and detailed plan: Improving NXT Security.

And make it easy Wink

Nah... We will give each user a bucket of paint and ask them to bungee-jump over a huge canvas.

When they are lifted back to the platform, they take a snapshot of the resulting masterpiece and the program will try to read it as a QR-code.

It will be garbled, but that's Ok - here's your new passphrase.

You know, I actually love this plan.

Might be a good promo video Smiley

There is a reason why I also wrote the following:

Perhaps a dedicated open source NXT password card generator would be a useful tool for the community.

Will there be a feature of freezing account for a given time and code a trigger to send it after that time into certain other accounts automaticly?
Looking for a possibility of safe storring NXTs owned by many holders in order to make group interest shares possible.

Yes Smiley

I also posted security warnings at the top of today's summaries to hopefully jolt some people into passphrase safety.

There is an article at Ars Technica which really woke me up to how unsafe some seemingly safe pass-phrases may actually be: How the Bible and YouTube are fueling the next frontier of password cracking -- Crackers tap new sources to uncover "givemelibertyorgivemedeath" and other phrases by Dan Goodin - Oct 8 2013, 9:00am EDT.

That article made me reevaluate and change most of the pass-phrases I had been using on many different sites, including my banks.

In related news: today I discovered one of my collegues had taped off his webcam, because he was "afraid someone might be spying on him", but only snorted when I pointed out that securing his system with a four letter word wasn't all that safe to begin with...  Cheesy

I am pleased to say that Nxt convinced me to move away from a Windows platform completely.

The amount of work it takes to be reasonably sure that it isn't infected with something or other has been nagging at me for weeks now.

Moved over to a Linux environment now.

Hey Everyone!

Update #1 from the Bitcoin Conference in Miami!

I just spoke with James and Josh from Cryp2cash.com about adding Nxt to their offering. They appear very interested with our dev team working with them to make it happen. They currently offer BTC, LTC, PPC, NMC, and FTC.

What they do is similar to localbitcoin.com with their escrow service, but they work with a debit card provider to offer instant transactions. This would allow us to get Nxt in the hand of everyday people, which I think is a huge deal.

****ACTION NEEDED****

If I could get one of the devs to PM me, I would like to work out a meeting so we could get the ball rolling.

I will update later with more news as it happens.

PIC OF A HAPPY GUY!

Awesome!

Turns out that FC is even busier:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423538.0

Didn't even notice that he'd launched FrictionlessCoin the currency.

Shall we make a list: NEX, FLC, iXcoin, ZenithCoin...any more?

How does FC find the time for all that dev work?

Going to sell my iXcoin right now, btw.

Before we accuse Scharmbecky, isn't it one of the clones of the KLONE wave?

Even weirder is that scharmbecky is doing a NXT giveaway as a tribute and support of Next in that thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423538.msg4626802#msg4626802
