With your log showing

I'm thinking that there is a problem with the PSU or a string Vcore regulator. Mine show values for all spots with no '0's. I take it you have contacted Canaan or your reseller about this? If not you should.

Also, please start using the code button # for pasting in log data. It puts the data into a scrollable box for easier reading.

What about :
BITFURY B8. 55THs
 NEW
consume 6000 W
You better have free power and it better be a VERY inexpensive price for the miner... That is horrible efficiency even compared to the Avalon 921. Beyond that, there has been very little mention of Bitfury gear here, mainly because most of their production of miners is for use in their own farms with very few sold to outsiders (consumers).
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the price of Bitcoin variable and can it stabilize? on: August 18, 2021, 06:26:09 PM
As a 1st post, you need to remember to actually ask a question in your posts and postulate a reason you think things might be as they seem to be. That will open the door for discussion of your reasoning. Just because the title is a question does not make it clear to folks who do not use English as their primary language...

That said, BTC is the same as any traded item. Do stocks, bonds, metals, FOREX, etc have stable prices? No. Prices for them all goes up and down all the time based on a myriad of factors.
1244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is trying to register Bitcoin trademark? on: August 18, 2021, 06:17:08 PM
You answer your own question it is people who are trying to make money by owning the trademark where they can sell goods and gifts to customers legally. I think some of the company names that you have given indicate that there are a couple of companies that were trying to sell merchandise that had "Bitcoin" on it.
Then they are idiots.
The word "Bitcoin" along with it's symbols BTC and BTC are not something that can be owned (although CW aka Faketoshi has tried) in that manner. Given that there is already a ton of merchandise such as tee shirts, hats, jackets, drink coasters etc. that are emblazoned with the symbols and/or word 'Bitcoin' that have been sold for many many years there is no way in hell anyone could claim the idea of merchandising is 'theirs'.

Ouch! Shocked
Oh btw, expect your posts about this in the other areas to be deleted by mods. Duplicate posts in multiple threads are not permitted.
1246  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My innosilicon T3 arrived today, the pool settings will not update, solutions? on: August 18, 2021, 02:27:34 PM
Even if it is locked on using poolin, can you at least change the worker name so you are earning the coin (after setting up a poolin act)? No matter what it is highly suspicious.
1247  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: want to compare the following mining on: August 18, 2021, 02:10:51 PM
Which Avalon miner? There are several different ones but at 20TH I'm guessing the A921? While it is a solid miner (all of Canaan's miners are very well built) it is not very efficient, power used is more like 2.0-2.2kW depending on air temperature. I would go with any of their A10xx, A11xx or A12xx series. I must add that while all of Canaan's miners are fairly easily serviceable and have good built-in diagnostics, getting replacement modules for non-current miners is rather hard to do as Canaan did not make make very many of the modules for use as spares.

Forget about Ebit, Axin, Aladdin and the Lovecore A1. They all have high failure rates along with terrible to non-existent support.

3. Mining BITCOIN is done exclusively with dedicated BITCOIN mining hardware based on ASICs - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuit . You CAN NOT meaningfully mine bitcoin today with CPU, GPU or even FPGAs. Bitcoin difficulty adapts to match the amount of mining done on the network and has reached levels trillions of times too high to mine meaningfully with PCs, laptops, tablets, phones, webpages, javascript, GPUs, and even generalized SHA hardware.

Or heavens forbid, they fight against the Taliban. If one is certain to die it would far better that it be by defending your country vs attempting a zero-chance of survival from fleeing it like that.

Seal the borders for a year or more to let the Afghani's settle things for themselves. It is their country and their problem. Then as long as the victors do not threaten their neighbors or rest of the world (or give sanctuary to others who do), start negotiating with them regarding world trade.
1251  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ Chip repair questions on: August 14, 2021, 09:08:22 PM
Perverza nailed all the key points and Merit given for that Smiley

All I'll add is a couple corrections in terminology:
It is not 'rust' between the pins nor is it any other sort of normal corrosion. What you see are called tin dendrites, fine metallic tin crystals that grow out of the solder from the combination of moisture in the air and electrical fields. While they have always been a potential issue where there are bare closely spaced solder connections it wasn't until lead-free solder was forced into use that it became serious - the main reason that Lead was added to solder back in the late 1930's was to prevent formation of dendrites. Lowering the melting point of the solder alloys was just icing on on the cake. Nothing has yet been found to prevent dendrites that works as well as Lead being part of the alloy does. FYI that is why Leaded solder is still permitted for medical, aerospace, military, and some industrial devices/circuits where that preventable failure mode is out of the question.

Soapbox time: The issue of leaded solder being an environmental hazard is pure bullshit. Even after disposal into landfills vs being recycled, consumer devices using leaded solder has never been shown to be a significant contributor of lead in the environment. The result of lead-free solder causing faster failure of devices however IS significant. Even with recycling in place more electronic gear is being tossed out as garbage than ever because it dies far sooner than it could work.
<steps down>

The other is 'Supersonic'. Supersonic means faster than the speed of sound. That is an ultrasonic cleaner which uses very high frequency sound waves far above what people can hear (usually between 25kHz up to 500kHz is used) to create cavitation bubbles on the surfaces the sound waves hit.
1252  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: What if there was Crypto credit as a way to legally avoid capital gain taxes on: August 13, 2021, 07:27:06 PM
In the US the Capital Gains Tax applies to ALL forms of trading, not just crypto. If you hold for at least 1-year the tax rate is very low when you sell or exchange, sell in less than 1-year and yes you are hit with very high tax rate. With 1 exception those rules are the same regardless of you trading metals, stocks, FOREX, etc. The 'purchase tax' is not nice but I expect that eventually that will either go away entirely or more likely only apply to miners as a tax on rewards (which is of course income).

The one difference is that for now at least, the IRS does allow tax harvesting for crypto - eg, say you bought at a very high price and later sold at a lower price. You are allowed to record that as an immediate Capital Gains loss same as you can with the others. BUT - you are also allowed to repurchase more coin say at least 1 day later at that lower price, pay the tax for it and then hold. You CANNOT do that with other investments - they have a much longer 'cool down' time of a month or more.
1253  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Insurance for miners ? on: August 13, 2021, 06:36:15 PM
If you are in the US, checkout https://www.section179.org/section_179_deduction/ as you can write off most of the cost of the miners. They are computers essential to the business. All other typical business expenses such as building, power, etc are deductible as well. That is of course another benefit to running the farm as a business Wink
1254  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Insurance for miners ? on: August 13, 2021, 05:13:06 PM
For 1, only a business insurance would ever provide that. Of course that means you have to register your operation as a business.
After that it is just a matter of contacting different business insurance providers to see if they cover what is by all definition a data center and the equipment located there.

1256  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AvalonMiner 1166 - fan drops to 25% then miner slowly shuts down... on: August 12, 2021, 01:26:44 PM
well... i had it on normal mode...

now i have changed it to high performance mode... and its working fine now............ i dont know what the problem is........ oh well.......
Welcome to the world of ASIC-based miners. I've ran into that with 1 A1041 and also a Whatsminer M10.

What is happening is that in Normal Mode (Avalons) / low-power mode (M10) they are not only reducing clock frequencies but also the Vcore applied to the chip strings. Due to manufacturing process variations and the mfgrs wanting to maximize usable chip yields sometimes a few marginal chips are pushing their bottom-end limits of reliable performance and are iffy about that. They will work for a bit until temperature changes push them over the edge causing some cores to drop out. When too many quit the controller sees that and restarts the miner and tries tuning again, runs for a bit, then rinse and repeat...

Performance mode uses higher Vcore to make sure the chips are happy at higher speed. End result is that the chips have a wider operating margin and run better.
1257  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: August 11, 2021, 05:27:57 PM
Perhaps. We have been spoiled by the last few epochs  Wink
I have to say that I'm pleased as punch with price - between the tax harvesting I did when BTC hit 30k (selling most of the amount I had bought at 43k to take the Capital Gains loss then next day buying back at 29.5k) I'm certainly 'above water' once again. Just kinda/sorta wish I had been a bit braver and bought more at the dip  Tongue
1258  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Canaan Avalon 1166 pro on: August 11, 2021, 03:11:35 PM
Are you sure that there are no whitespaces in the pool or worker names? When you copy/paste it is very common for a whitespace to be added to the text (usually at the end) and that will result in the miner not being able to use it.
1259  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking to get into ASIC Miners - Where should I start? on: August 10, 2021, 07:54:40 PM
All of Canaan's Avalon miners are very good machines with far fewer problems than those from any other maker. A nice plus is that they are currently available for a decent price. If you are in the USA use Blokforge.com, excellent company and they have miners in-stock. Aside from one old Bitmain R4, since 2017 my entire farm is all Avalons and has ran with pretty much zero problems.

That said, like all modern miners they DO have one weak point - the fact they use a built-in custom PSU that can be very hard to get replacements for if it dies. The good point is that unlike the Antminers, that is pretty much their only problem.

You should also be able to find the USB-A to mini-USB cables at gas stations. drug stores, hardware stores, etc. They are sold everywhere usually near the checkout. Just be sure they are labeled as charge + data or sync to make sure it is not a charging-only cable.
