How do you go about under volt cards? Can you do this though MSI afterburner, or do you need to use some custom Bios update for cards?

Just tick 'unlock voltage control' in AB compatibility properties, after that you can move core voltage slider in the opening screen.

not with nvidia

True, with nvidia you can't undervolt. Only way to save power is to lower TDP which actually works quite well on ethereum mining. My 5x970 can do 83MH@600w from the wall.

Some quick tests with 390´s -100mV.

20MH 125w from the wall (gold rated PSU 90-92%)
25MH 150w
27MH 185w
30MH 215w

-200mV and 20&25MH wattage would be even lower.

Can you try to lower the voltage to -200 mV with Trixx and the frequency to 960 MHz? It could be much lower.

My test rig with W7 and really outdated hardware has some issues with Trixx so I can't test it.

BTW, for 20MH you only need 700-750 for core so you need to underclock it like 30-35% to get down to 970 performance levels.

i don't believe that a 390 can mine at that rate, i need to see this with my eye, i doubt a 280w card can be downvolted to consume only 167w while maintaining its full hashrate basically

i smell bullshit, at 27 it would be still at 220w, so no it's not better than a 970

It can. All it takes is to install AB, drag volt slider all the way to the left to -100mV. Overclock core to 1100+ and you have 30-31MH with 220-230w, if you want to save more power just underclock it to desired level.

280w can be done with 30MH eth + 0.8GH dcr.

you can use the nano mod of that guy in this forum, he mine with 75watt and 22 mega i remember, pretty good, i still need to see that super efficiency of other amd, it's strange that they cna match nvidia, like the 390 for example

If you under volt the R9 390 to less than 1000 mV, you can get around 6 J/MH, that is better than 970.

proof of that, my 970 do 22 mega for 160w, i doubt a 390 can beat this

I have both 970 and 390, for ethereum mining I would choose 390 over 970.

Surprisingly warm weekend here so did some power saving tests with my 5xGPU rigs AMD against Nvidia.

AMD 295x2 x2 plus 290 (=4x290x + 290) undervolted -100mV does 140MH (Claymore), 1120W from the wall. No bios mods.

Nvidia 4x970 + 980 TDP limit at 61% 90MH (Genoil 1.0.7), 680W from the wall.

W/MH:

AMD 8.00
Nvidia 7.55

140MH ETH + 2.8GH DCR, 1380W/ 140MH ETH only 1180W... turns unprofitable somewhere in 0.5/kWh area.

You Ethereum miner is quite efficient. 140MH ETH only 1180W. What are the GPU and the settings or configuration?

5xhawaii, -100mV. 1018 core.

Nicehash maybe? Nah, only 27000MH there...

To me it looks more like FCPGA has found where the profit is.
1252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: April 26, 2016, 08:28:42 PM
Feathercoin is not more profitable, its the same as ETH.

When the price went up so did the difficulty.

So you finally realized mining profitability has nothing to do with market cap? Maybe you were just trolling...

1253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: April 16, 2016, 01:31:36 AM
For the current profitability of the Ethereum mining, it is OK to mine with existing GPU, but do not buy new ones.

Buy only cheap powerful used cards only with mining profits you already have.

The cheap power used cards are usually not efficient than the new cards. For example, the 280x is not as efficient as the R9 nano.

Right now it is not the time to be efficient. I don't know about next monday.

Not the time to be efficient? It's ALWAYS time to be efficient - maybe the upfront cost is too high if you only consider mining Eth, but honestly, if you go longer term on mining efficiently, you don't lose.

With current earning levels I am starting to save power somewhere in 0.5€/kWh area.

If I had nano + Wolf0 bin + Wolf0 bios...

7970/ 280x is better for cheap fast eth hash power. 2 x 7970 (40MH) = 1 x 970 (20MH) pricewise.

About every other algo + gaming + resell value 970 is the winner.

initial investment does not matter, i can guarantee to you that i can sell my 970 at the same price of when i bought them, on ebay

Yep, I have some second hand 970's too.

But 7970 bought in January has already ROI'd about 5-6 times and I can still sell it for more than I paid.

1257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: April 13, 2016, 05:50:33 PM

Has anyone tried home-brewed mining 2 algos simultaneously by running 2 instances of the miner? I don't know that
building that capability into a single instance will be significantly better unless it can allocate resources more efficiently
to serve each algo better.

I have been testing 5x970 vs 5x290, claymore vs. genoil+sp. There are so many variables that I need to do much more testing but I can already say that it works on nvidia too.

Efficient? Profitable? I don't know. Currently running ~90+1500...

Did some tests with 7970 and it sure looks like it is not worth merge mine with them. But hawaii gets a nice earning boost from this miner.
1259  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: April 11, 2016, 09:17:37 PM
At the moment you are trying to sell a product that has no market appeal. Develop a better product and it will sell itself.

Check my donation adress again in a block explorer. My kernals are good. My donators are mostly happy. My kernals work, and they are the fastest in the world available for the small miners. The sp-mod ultimate will wrap it all up. With all algos optimized you are guaranteed a higher profit..

Decred is tanking only $1.45 now.
I don't know whether to sell or hold.....I'll hold my DECRED. Smiley

I can't sell even if I wanted to. My holdings are all in tickets... And I am happy with that.
1260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred GPU Miner v1.0 on: April 11, 2016, 05:22:39 PM
Testing it right now on 2x390 + old cpu and mobo, Windows 7 x64, 15.12. Clocks 1100/1250 undervolted -100mV.

I must say I am amazed. Eth is just a bit faster reporting steady 30.95MH per card, on top of that I am getting 0.464GH (1.9GH with sgminer) dcr per GPU. 50W LESS from the wall.

Testing continues...

edit: No change in memory controller load

edit2: Test rig 2, old mobo and CPU, 2x 295x2 + 290, windows 7 x64, 15.7.1, OS controlled virtual memory. It just works, 151MH eth + 2.2GH dcr without tuning. Dcr poolside efficiency 90-95%.
