Lol Elon Musk has always been a little out there hasn't he  Cheesy Some of the things he says are tinfoil hat level ramblings and yet he seems to get away with it and even manages to get the audience hooked. But it's cool, there is definitely need for some wackiness in tech, it helps expand our horizons  Smiley

He gets away with it because he has already achieved so much that it's hard not to take him seriously.  Did you hear about his detailed presentation coming out on September about how he'll send the first manned mission to Mars?  20 years ago we would laugh at him.  People don't laugh at his face now because we know he can make it happen.

I'm really disappointed with this one.  I really thought he was going to Man United and fight an uphill battle to bring United back to the glory days.  I guess it's hard signing quality players without CL football as a sort of incentive.

I'm not a gamer but I like to check the level of similarity with the real world from time to time. Well I'd say we should wait a million years or maybe more until the similarity will be achieved.

But if we're really inside of a sim, how do we really know the difference?  How do we know that the leaves of the trees in here look as real as they are outside the sim?

And why wait a million years?  It all already looks real, watch the Avengers or some Marvel comic book movie that uses a lot of CGI...  Watch The Jungle Book.  It looks all real.

Because our real simulation is a trillion times more complex than the Matrix movie simulation.

Cool

So meaning it's possible after a million years.  But how do we know that million years has not been passed if we're actually inside a simulation?

Do you gamble for fun or for profit?

In my case, it's both.  And I like the challenge.  I actually started a 'challenge thread' where I try to get out of the micro stakes in online poker.  It's going to take a lot of time, but I'm willing to go through it because it's fun...  In a way.  Smiley

Here's the thread:  Online Poker Challenge: Getting Out of the Micros

Please drop by and post from time to time.  I need all your support.

Despite his denial, is Gareth Bale really playing mind games?  Just recently he made a comment stating that no player in the English squad could get in the Wales team.

Quote
Despite having a squad that includes Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Joe Hart when asked which England players would get into Wales’s side Bale was clear. “None,” he said, denying mind games were being played. “For me there aren’t any – we just focus on ourselves, others like to comment on them. For us as a team and camp we don’t listen to anything, we concentrate on ourselves. Nothing is fazing us, we don’t feel any pressure, we’re just going to go out and enjoy the occasion.

No england squad would be in wales squad because every wales player will hope that they are part of the england team instead of wales. It is not a secret anymore because being part of england squad is always a pride for the british including wales , scotland and many others , it is a fact

So he really is playing mind games then, or he could be psyching himself up for the match.  I cannot see how Wales could win this match.  I hope England wins 3 - 0 vs Bale.  I have always hated him since he left Tottenham for Real.
12407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: June 16, 2016, 11:38:00 AM
Let's be honest. Gambling should only be considered for entertainment purposes only. If you are in need of quick cash, doing hard dirty work is more often than not better than hitting up the casino sites. I see way too many people in this section try to justify their gambling habits by saying they have strategies to always win. Others on this forum will go as far as to say that they are professional gamblers, and they always win. You're fooling no one and you look stupid.

All the gambling addicts I knew in real life who claimed to win from casinos all the time had serious mental issues. I went gambling with that guy once, and he ended up blaming me for him loosing at Pai Gow poker, a game that's 100% chance.

And just to let you guys know, ALL the casinos in my jurisdiction say the same things in public advertising campaigns. So far, my sig campaign manager has not PM'ed me telling me to quit bashing gambling. Nobody wins gambling, so lets stop pretending anyone here makes a living gambling online.

When you play against the house, the edge is against you.  So mathematically you lose in the long run.  In the case of zero sum games like poker, you have a chance to be a long term winner.  But keep in mind that the house rakes all the hands you play, that becomes a big factor if you play long enough as it takes a big chunk of your winnings.

If you want do this for money.  Always look for an edge.  In Black Jack it's card counting, in Baccarat it's edge sorting, etc, etc...

We are more than the sum of our parts. We invent ideas witch are not part of our original programing. This gives me hope that anything is possible.
Why would they run this simulation, if they already knew what would evolve from it? They would not.

Maybe for entertainment purposes...?  What if people from the real world enter the sim to be entertained and basically to play this game called life.  Imagine playing Grand Theft Auto but in a more realistic setting.  I know I'd pay to play that game to be quite honest.

Or maybe for experimentation purposes.  Maybe they wanna see how humans lived in different historical times.  We could be a sim right inside a museum, or in a lab somewhere like an ant farm where everyone can be observed by the people up there in the real world.

The reality is, who knows why...  Then again, if this is really the real world, what is the purpose of all this?
12410  Other / Politics & Society / Re: We Could Be Living In Simulation Says Elon Musk on: June 16, 2016, 06:10:47 AM
Guys he said there's a billionth of a chance we aren't in a simulation and then we would get to high technology to create a simulation. So either we create the simulation or we're in it

Exactly.  The thing is at the pace technology's development is going, we could create a real world simulation sooner or later.  Once it's there, you cannot help but wonder what if we're actually in one.  And if we do accept it, how do we prove or disprove it?

12411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should you leave your Bitcoins? Or convert them to Ethereum? on: June 16, 2016, 05:57:23 AM
So as everyone can see, Bitcoins and Ethereum are both shooting up in value pretty fast!!

If you have 100 Bitcoins, how will you invest them??

- Leave those Bitcoins untouched and pray to God that they will cross the $1000 mark after halving?
- Convert all Bitcoins into Ethereum? There are a lot of speculations that Ethereum may shoot up to $30-$50 range over the course of the next few weeks.
- Convert 50% of those Bitcoins to Ethereum?

Let me know your thoughts..

Take all 100 bitcoins and use them to fully leverage an ETH short.

~~

You may be kidding, but that's not a bad thought actually, sans the full leverage.  In the back of my mind ETH could start a downtrend vs BTC sooner or later.
12412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why does no one use the BitShares Exchange DEX? on: June 16, 2016, 04:00:28 AM
I'm not looking for a technical discussion between PoS, PoW, etc... but rather fundamentally why traders and speculators are not using the DEX provided by BitShares?

My thoughts and questions without getting into politics:

-Liquidity is a major problem however this is a chicken and egg problem.

Because DEX trades tokens on the bitshares blockchain. People like to buy the blockchains actual token. There is a huge difference.

While true, simply day trading are the users ever going to withdraw the actual token?  Just like real world options, no one actually takes delivery of that option.  The exchange is just giving you an IOU in which you must trust they have your balance available.

Perhaps we need to divide this into two categories.  Trading tokens such as BitBTC vs BitGold.

Additionally, take a look at the deposit/withdraw page in the wallet.  With OpenLedger you can go direct from the Open.Asset to the real token or vice versa.  IE deposit BTC and receive Open.BTC which can be traded against other pairs.  When you think of the big picture these exchanges such as OpenLedger have motivation to compete for your business.

My wild guess for reasons are:

1. Traders want to be where the most liquidity is.

2. Traders probably see no benefit to DEX that relies on federation and trust, thus isn't really immune to the risk of an exchange. They may in fact trust such exotic new tech less and besides they really don't need DEX.

3. BitAssets pegs are most certainly lossy.

4. Why learn some complex new thing which might have bugs lurking. Better to trust what most other speculators are already using. No real incentive to switch.

5. Probably concerns about how the DEX can perform in real-time during volatile market movements and overload of volume.

Etc, etc.

I agree.  Liquidity is a big factor for active traders.  Why would a trader make the switch when they're already making profit in Polo or Kraken.  You see, traders go where they can make money, they don't trade somewhere because it's "awesome" or decentralized.  It's all about the game.

Quote

The marketing error that most developers make is, "build it and they will come".

The successful marketers of altcoins have built a good hype bubble.

I have seen 0 altcoins that gained a great following and adoption due to building something truly functionally awesome.

Again, I agree.  Marketing the platform really well is a must if you want people to flock and use it.  But before you get the traders, you have to attract the whales and the newbies first in order for the traders to have an incentive to use DEX.  So marketing DEX to people outside of crypto should be the goal.  But I don't see the mainstream getting into crypto within 5 - 10 years.

So we're back again to the chicken and egg problem.
12413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should you leave your Bitcoins? Or convert them to Ethereum? on: June 16, 2016, 03:37:27 AM
BTC is out performing ETH at the moment.  It wouldn't make sense to get into ETH if your goal is to profit in BTC.  By doing that you're just exposing yourself to more risk vs fiat.  The safe bet, again, is to be holding 100% in BTC right now.  The minute ETH trends vs BTC, that's a good time to buy some ETH.

This is the chart of ETH/BTC.  So far there's no trend because BTC is rising faster in fiat value than ETH.  If BTC slows down and ETH continues the rise, then start looking into buying some ETH.

According to Elon Musk, there's one in a billion chance that we're living in base reality.  It seems that he's persuaded by the 'simulation argument'.  It's an idea by philosopher and futurologist Nick Bostrom which states that our future descendants have created simulations by the millions, so that makes it possible that we are living in one now.

12415  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think to the president of the Philippines? on: June 15, 2016, 12:55:59 PM
Let the doctors sell the drugs instead of the criminals

This strategy was recently implemented in Portugal and Uruguay, with a great deal of success. Check these:

https://mic.com/articles/110344/14-years-after-portugal-decriminalized-all-drugs-here-s-what-s-happening#.hRlUsTE9u

In Portugal, the number of drug-users is going down, as evident from this graph:

Also, the number of Drug-induced deaths have declined from 80 to 100 per year, to around 15.
The reason they didn't want to implement this kind of law is because Philippine's is one of the religious country in the world and by that you should how they think. And to tell you, more and more people here are making Duterte a cult. All of his acts should not pointed out bad, like his joke on an Astraulian woman, instead of trying to point out that his wrong they even protected him.

And that's where the real problem lies. In order for a country to move forward in political and economic matters, the state must become secular.  Any religious institution should have no influence on state matters.  Period.

I mean no offense, but no wonder why the Philippines is going nowhere, you got the priests and religious leaders using their influence and are using the people to manipulate state matters.

Imho, some religious institutions (especially the largest one Smiley ) seem to want the people to remain ignorant.  Why?  Because it's easier for them to manipulate a poor, oppressed person than a well off, free thinking one.

Transfer market will open after Euro, will be big auction on Pogba and Aubameyang
Perez wants Lewandowski but Bayern will not sell him

Aubameyang is wanted by Man City but they need to shell out 65M Pounds.  That's way too much.  No way he's worth 65M.  Lewandowski is a way better option.

Maybe Dortmund should shill Real to buy him...  Real doesn't care how much, they just get what they want.  Cheesy

Lol. +1 on your choice of username.

Rhymes with HumptyDumpty.

The Humpty Dance   Grin

If you remember that, my bet is you are from Generation X.

A little trivia.  Tupac Shakur started his career with that guy.  At one point he was one of the back up dancers doing all the funny dances and humping sex dolls in concerts.  I saw it in a documentary about him.
12418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why people keep buying DOGE? on: June 15, 2016, 10:21:25 AM
Why people keep buying DOGE?

A useless one, no tech !!!

It's called trading.  The same reason why one would buy and sell stocks and commodities...  To profit.  Cryptocurrencies is a good place to start learning on how to trade because you don't need that big a bankroll to start out.  Unlike stocks there's a 'pattern day trading' rule that disallows people to make more than 4 trades in 5 days.  That person must have at least $25,000 in his account to trade without that limit.

And it's easy to move your funds from exchange to exchange without going thru banks.

Edit:  So make the best of it while crypto isn't regulated yet.  Once it is, I believe these regulations aka barriers of entry into trading them will be put in place making crypto a playground of Wallstreet.  And you think there are scams now?  Wait until they get in, they'll put the word 'scam' on a whole new level.  Think pinksheets and penny stocks...  Ugh.
12419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: June 15, 2016, 08:31:28 AM
I think it will be great for Bale and EPL if Bale will comeback,United or Arsenal best place for him,In Real he is all the time in Ronaldo shadow

Sooner or later real madrid will depend on him and they are stupid to release bale. United and arsenal however wont sign him, both of that team is lacking out for striker and the rumours is that both of that team is currently trying to sign vardy. Mourinho seems to have interest on vardy as well
yeah i think manchester united will be theclosest if they tryed to sign him because they have the money for it and also the manager arsenal are little bit far for signing him if real madrid got stupid and selled him

Barcelona got a trio for their striker and if real madrid think they can win by depending solely on ronaldo then it is crazy. Manchester united need defenders, not another winger and bale will never fit on the team. They should habe just sign ramos id they want anyone from real madrid into their team

I agree.  And they need a good playmaker too.  If they can't get Pogba to come back, maybe get Verrati?
12420  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think to the president of the Philippines? on: June 15, 2016, 04:53:57 AM
Mr. President Rodrigo Duterte does he really do his job to stop drugs within 3 to 6 months?.What do you think?

Rodrigo Duterte is just another retarded politician. He simply doesn't understand that it is impossible to ban drugs. Even in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Singapore, where there is death penalty for drug usage, various types of narcotics such as heroin and LSD are easily available. The best solution is to legalize the drugs and to regulate their trade.

Although I agree that legalization, regulation and decriminalization are good solutions to the illegal drugs epidemic all over he world, but only up to a point.  I think Cannabis should definitely be legalized, but not the hard drugs like meth or heroin.  Especially in a country like the Philippines where even the poor take these drugs.

I mean, how can you really regulate the hard drugs when an underground market is always there to have these drugs available?  And who will be allowed to sell the harder drugs under regulation?

For Cannabis, sure...  It's medicinal and beneficial to society, IMO.  But I think regulation and legalization of harder drugs needs further study.  The Netherlands is not like the Philippines.
