12441  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Problem on Windows on: August 11, 2019, 06:31:44 PM
Even the best of people can be fooled if they follow the pop-ups in the wallet...
Don't follow any pop-ups in your Electrum wallet now or in the future. Doesn't matter that the malicious practice of servers sending fake messages got patched. Maybe in the future scammers will find another way to get their fake software onto people's computers but as long as we follow the basic guidelines we will be safe. Download only from the official website and verify the signature of the wallet before installing it. Done.
12442  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: When will they fix Ledger Nano S firmware? on: August 11, 2019, 06:22:51 PM
As I did not uninstall any apps/update any apps, I have no clue but it's certainly not so easy as installing apps on my mobile and laptop.
I had a problem with my Nano S that it wiped itself clean yesterday following an update to Ledger Live. Restoring it from the seed was a lengthy process but installing the apps took literally 20-30 seconds for each. Not sure why you experienced those problems but you should certainly keep your firmware updated to the newest version.
12443  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hardware wallets still aren't secure, and they never will be. Use paper wallets on: August 11, 2019, 06:11:25 PM
Sure they could. An attacker could use blockchain analysis to reasonably conclude a lower bound of how much coin a person is holding. An attacker could use a set of known facts to conclude a person is holding a large amount of coin.
If your coins are spread around in different wallets and these addresses are not public and can't be connected to your real name it is safe to assume that you would be safe. How would someone discover that a certain number of addresses belong to John Smith from Denver, Colorado?
12444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of new crypto Trojan Malware Saefko and InnfiRAT! on: August 10, 2019, 09:23:47 AM
Search like this for example:
site:bitcointalk.org Saefko to display results only from bitcointalk.org containing the search term Saefko or any other term you would like to see.

And you will get this:

12445  Other / Meta / Re: Does this post deserve 10 merit? on: August 10, 2019, 09:13:15 AM
Both accounts have recently woken up. aksplace has not posted anything since 2017. He woke up today at 3:54:11 AM, wrote that post at 04:00:05 AM and 5 minutes later, at 04:05:13 he got those 10 merits.
Those are the facts, it's up to the admins and DTs to determine if this is an abuse of the merit system or not.
12446  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hardware wallets still aren't secure, and they never will be. Use paper wallets on: August 10, 2019, 08:40:12 AM
A question here:

If I've kept my coins in a hardware and that hardware either blasts off or gets destroyed anyhow (talking about these Ledger and Trezor thing), will I be able to ever regain them?
Here is what happened to me yesterday.

I was moving some bitcoins to my Nano S. There was a new update to the Ledger Live app and I installed it. I wanted to check the Account Manager if there were any updates to my installed apps. After clicking on the Account Manager on Ledger Live my hardware wallet wiped itself clean! It just restarted, I never experienced it before. I thought that it got broken at first.

I disconnected and reconnected it again and it showed me the welcome screen you usually see the first time you set it up. Press both buttons to start the setup etc... I had to reconfigure it with my seed and set it up again. Very weird indeed.

I am not sure if this was a bug, some hardware failure or if it has anything to do with the update I performed.
12447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 10, 2019, 08:31:06 AM
But that doesn't stop teams from other leagues whose transfer window is still truly on to purchase players from English teams, they are truly allowed to do so, the only hinderance is to the purchase of players, not sale.
You are absolutely correct. According to ESPN they can still sell their players to leagues where the transfer window is still open.

Quote
All English clubs will still be able to sell or loan players to leagues where the transfer market remains open after Aug. 8.

Another thing worth noting is that clubs can still sign players who are without a club even after the deadline. I am not sure if that also applies to the clubs in England.
Quote
Clubs are still able to sign players as free agents after the deadline, and as long as they are not officially attached to any club on Sept. 2.

12448  Other / Meta / Re: Should I lock my Chance to Rank Up thread for Newbies and Jr. Members? on: August 09, 2019, 04:02:23 PM
...why not become a source?
I considered applying but I rarely have enough time to visit the forum to search for additional merit worthy posts besides those I see in the boards and threads that I frequent.

@hd49728
Most posts that I merited are not connected to my thread. The thread is only for the two lowest ranks.

...I redistribute a few amongst previously merited posts by me...
I know, I think I was on the receiving end a few times.

I see there are some Newbei who post on your topic but you don't give sMerit, maybe for some reason. Very understandable.

Thanks YOSHIE!

I turned down some users because they obviously didn't read the rules or they don't understand what kind of posts are worth meriting.
I had a few users submitting posts where they were asking questions or asking for help. Other users even submitted bounty reports or confirmations of fulfilled bounty requirements.

Thanks for the link to the Indonesian thread, I will check it out and see what it is about.
12449  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Things That Comes Into Your Mind When Winning... on: August 09, 2019, 10:05:24 AM
I know that my reply will probably be unpopular or not that common among gamblers but when I win and depending on how much I win I think what I can do with that money. I really do. Most people I know and what I read, they think how they can invest and gamble with the winnings to win even more.
I am satisfied with a free lunch or new pair of sneakers. I don't need to go for the jackpot and aim for the stars.
12450  Other / Meta / Should I lock my Chance to Rank Up thread for Newbies and Jr. Members? on: August 09, 2019, 10:00:39 AM
In December 2018 I created a thread in the B&H board titled: Giving 26 Newbie/Jr. Members a Chance to Rank Up.
In the beginning I had a limited amount of merits allocated to Newbies and Jr. Members but seeing that I got awarded a lot of merits in the thread I decided to reserve the corresponding number of sMerits to Newbies/Jr. Members who show me quality posts.

I am now in a dilemma. Several members who sent me merits for that thread posted that they expect me to distribute these merits to Newbies. But I have not seen any good applicants for a long time, nobody is applying. Quality Newbies and Jr. Members acquire merits in the standard way so they don't need my thread for that.

I currently find myself in a situation where I have 28 sMerits to give out but I have reserved 26 of those for my mentioned thread. Some say that my rules are too strict, that might be the case but I believe that because of these rules my thread 'survived' for so long and wasn't moved to Off topic or locked. Several months ago I even PMed theymos regarding the thread and he said that "the thread is good as it is". I have a screenshot of that PM posted somewhere in the merit thread.

Just for reference here are the rules for the mentioned thread:

Quote
RULES:

1. In order to apply you need to have an activity level of 30 if you are a Newbie or 60 if you are a Jr. Member.
2. Send me direct links to your posts that you believe deserve to be merited. 3 posts per user MAX.
3. Your posts had to be written before 01/04/2019. Any posts after this date will not be considered.
4. No merit begging, merit requesting, proposing to buy/trade merits in any way. NO PMs, if you send me a PM proposing any of this I will not consider your application, your post/pm will be made public and reported to Mods.
5. I will only consider Newbie/Jr. Members who are making any kind of quality contributions to the forum. I have nothing against bounty campaigns BUT if 99% of your posts are in the Altcoin > Bounty Section / Thread Bumps / Off topic posts / Low quality / Spam / Nice project, good luck type of posts / you will not be considered.
6. Only NEWBIE/JR. MEMBER Accounts will be considered, no other ranks.
7. Only posts written in decent English will be considered, NO posts from Local Boards.

And this is the reason why I am creating this poll. I think I need to honor the wishes of those who gave me merits in my thread but on the other hand I often find myself in a situation where I can't merit a good post because of those reserved merits.

Looking for suggestions from the community.

EDIT: I forgot to include a link to the thread in question > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5085605.0
12451  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets OLED Display Vulnerability[Trezor One, Ledger Nano S/X, etc.] on: August 09, 2019, 09:33:52 AM
I have an update notification in Ledger live so will update it soon. They mentioned you need to use the USB that was tampered by the attacker so we aren't using that. I use the USB that came with the wallet and not any other USB cable so I am still safe right?
A malicious person would have to produce a lot of these fake USB wallets and be on the look-out for owners of hardware wallets. In case your original USB
cable stops working and you make an ad to try and purchase a replacement cable he could try and sell you one of his.
But still he would need to get physical access to your hardware wallet after you used his cable already. Why go through all the trouble, seems to me that a baseball bat could be more effective  Grin

The only real danger here is getting targeted by someone close to you, a family member or friend who also has access to your home and who could do the swap in case he wants to rob you.
12452  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 09, 2019, 09:21:57 AM
The transfer window for English clubs have ended. Does anyone have official information does this apply for both players coming in and being transferred away from the Premier League? I know that they can no longer purchase players but can they still sell players abroad?
12453  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 08, 2019, 10:57:25 AM
Dybala is really being pushed away by Juventus at all costs. They must have a ready replacement otherwise they wouldn't be doing this. It is the last day of the UK transfer market so a deal has to be made soon. I am not sure if with the arrival of Lukaku Juventus will try another attempt to bring Icardi to Turin. Even Neymar could be a possibility but it is a big gamble in my opinion.
12454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ⚠️ How Scammer tried to Hack my Bitcointalk and how to Protect yourself?⚠️ on: August 08, 2019, 10:45:57 AM
Why the real owner doesn't say anything, if his account had been hacked?  Huh
He would already come in meta or on this thread to report the hack, no?
There is something fishy.
He was active in July almost on a daily basis and has not posted anything since July 30th. After that he either got hacked or went rogue.
He is now banned so I guess that is it.

Regarding the phishing attempt.
If you have ticked to always be logged on to bitcointalk and you see that the site is asking for your login details you should be alarmed.
If you have not ticked that option bitcointalk will log you out after 1 hour so if you open a new tab where you are asked to enter your login details confirm it on the page you usually visit when you login to bitcointalk. If you are logged out there as well, everything is fine. Log back in on the site you have saved and you usually log in on bitcointalk. If you are still logged in but the other tab is asking you to login again - you know it is a phishing attempt.

All this above is for those that don't understand phishing sites and that bitcointak internal sites are marked in green when you hover over it with your mouse.
12455  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How safe are my funds? on: August 08, 2019, 10:17:43 AM
Warning: Electrum versions older than 3.3.4 are susceptible to phishing. Do not download Electrum from another source than electrum.org, and learn to verify GPG signatures.
Didn't it used to be versions older than 3.3.3 before? They seem to have changed this sometimes in the past to 3.3.4.
So in theory even users with version 3.3.3 (like OP in this case) could receive the phishing messages!?
12456  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets OLED Display Vulnerability[Trezor One, Ledger Nano S/X, etc.] on: August 08, 2019, 10:09:50 AM
I don't think this is a big concern really. To be affected by this you would need to purchase a modified USB cable so that this attack could be performed.
As long as you don't purchase USB cables for your hardware wallets from third parties you are safe. Unless someone from Ledger supplies you with a modified cable but that is a whole other story...

Thanks for the heads up. I will be updating my one (Ledger Nano S) today.
If you are already using firmware version 1.5.5 there is no newer update for now. Just use the cable that came with your Ledger device.

Dear Creator,

Your posts get deleted because You violate the rules, even in this thread. Please don't send me to the eternal pit of fire though.
Nobody, including You - The Creator, is allowed to post multiple posts one after the other, which you have done in this thread. Read rule #32 of this godforsaken place.
12458  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet on a dog fight? on: August 07, 2019, 09:07:30 AM
I would never bet on that. I would also not have a problem ratting out the organizers to the police if I found out about it.
I can't believe that bull fighting is still legal in some countries. I heard that it is no longer allowed in Spain, is that true?
12459  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S, How Many Wallets Can I Install At Once and Compatibility? on: August 07, 2019, 08:50:15 AM
I only had installed Bitcoin and Ethereum app on Ledger Nano S.
After Last updated I wanted to install PGP app so I can sign a message.
I had NO SPACE error...
So I had to uninstall ETH app to install PGP...

 Roll Eyes
Try and compare the versions of your installed apps on your Ledger device to those displayed in Ledger Live. Maybe you have old versions of them. As far as I know they reduced the size of the Ethereum app, probably the Bitcoin app as well.
12460  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: where can i find examples of transactions with different SIGHASH types? on: August 07, 2019, 08:43:23 AM
A search led me to this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Contract

And here is another thread discussing SIGHASH types for multisig. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1383883.0
Maybe you can will some useful info there if you haven't checked it out yet.
