12481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why people want ETH to over come BTC on: May 09, 2018, 02:54:42 AM
I don't know why people say so much about those Bitcoin transaction fees.

A simple international SWIFT costs about 45 USD and 2-3 business days.

People do those SWIFTS and never complained. Now bitcoin offers a more secure method, which costs 3-4 USD and 20 minutes, and people are crying about "high fees" "old technology"
WTF?

Ethereum is cheaper because their network has not the same volume as BTC.
Don't you remember when cryptokitties flooded their network and they had high fees?

Personally, i don't worry much about fees. Now with segwit and lightning, everything will be much cheaper.
12482  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2018, 02:49:28 AM
Why do I have this awful feeling like we're going below $9k again...

I blame Bill Gates.

Asshole.

Why do people pay attention to those old people? Bill gates almost missed the Internet, now he is going to miss blockchain and crypto.

Look at this nobel prize winner, one more genius.

12483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bed news of Bitcoin on: May 09, 2018, 01:53:25 AM
It isn't lucky fans of bitcoin.
Now the bitcoin was attacked" by Warren Buffett, and the price has again spread down...

It is a lot of epithets. Not mine, Buffett.)))

Giving yesterday, 07.05.18, CNBC interview, it has told that buyers of bitkon whom he has characterized as "rat poison in a square" look forward who will pay more for their "anything-worthless-artificial-gold"...
The mysticism around bitcoin generates the unhealthy interest and not reasonable rise of the price, and there is the next soap bubble, such as, tulip fever in Holland in the 17th century.
"When you don't understand an essence, the mysticism bewitches and excites. People like to speculate and gamble."

And Charlie Munger his old partner and the vice-head of board of his Berkshire company has compared a race behind bitcoin to biting definition of Oscar Wilde of "hunting for foxes", or "Silent hunters pursue that are inedible"....

What your thinks?

I think that Buffet is just an old guy who can't even use an smartphone properly.
He was good in his time... He invest mostly in coca cola and insurance companies. Do you really think that is the future?

This is really bed news, makes me want to sleep . Done with internet for today
12484  Economy / Economics / Re: Portfolio on: May 09, 2018, 01:50:22 AM
I would keep most of my money in BTC and ETH. Be careful with altcoins. They are more volatile than bitcoin.
12485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Let's talk about Privacy on: May 08, 2018, 07:01:09 PM
Wasn't TunnelBear bought by McAfee recently? I don't think that it will have a positive impact on it. I would recommend TorGuard instead. Their service is fairly good, they even sell pre-flashed routers with software designed for security of your network traffic. Also, it is worth mentioning that they support Lightning Network payments. If someone wants to try Lightning Network then their service is a good choice. Not only you get chance to test Lightning Network, but also you can improve your privacy.

I wasn't aware of that, that TunnelBear was both by mcafee company.
But it's important to know that John Mcafee sold this company, which holds only his name.

Don't you think that you should mention something about Bitcoin mixers? They are a good choice if someone doesn't want to use any other cryptocurrency.

I like the idea of Bitcoin mixers. I need to study about them. This is probably become another post.

Am using chrome and am not having any problems. But for your own good don't allowed any website to save your password for you so that you can easily open your account when you want to. Is not safe someone may get access to your phone or computer. In order to be safe keep your password to yourself because is your privacy not publicly.

THe problem with google products is privacy related, not security related. Your passwords are somehow safe.
They will collect your personal data (like e-mail content, searches) and sell to another companies. If you don't have a problem with that, you can use any google product.
12486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blue-chip stocks and Bitcoin on: May 08, 2018, 06:52:39 PM
I just pointed out some similarities between the two.

I know they are different assets, and Bitcoin is not a company looking for profits to pay dividends. Although some people erroneous call forks dividends, in a pure financial point of view they  have some similarities too.

I like this comparison, between stocks and bitcoin, and I think it's a good way to explain Bitcoin  characteristics to  people who are new to bitcoin. I think this comparison is inevitable for people who invest in the stock market.
12487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The long term hold outlook on: May 08, 2018, 06:49:19 PM
I think the hold strategy is good when you have solid coins.

I think solid coins are the top30 at the most. The most solid, which are probably just going up in the long term are the top 3: BTC ETH and XRP.

Although I don't like XRP, I have to admit it has solid fundamentals. Solid partnerships (many banks) and bank are probably going to use it soon.

Mencinei o impacto desse seu post nesse tópico.
A circulação de méritos na aba local triplicou na semana seguinte ao seu topico ser iniciado kkk
12489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you keep your private keys?? I need good ideas!! on: May 08, 2018, 05:34:05 PM
I think this post is now dominated by spammers. I will lock it up. The good answers are on the first and second page only.
12490  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Distribuição de Merit em foruns locais. on: May 08, 2018, 05:16:21 PM
O usuário DdmrDdmr criou esse tópico, bastante interessante
Forum Metrics - Section/subsection sMerit breakdown in detail

Do tópico original, achei essa imagem bastante perturbadora:

12491  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Metrics - Section/subsection sMerit breakdown in detail on: May 08, 2018, 04:33:13 PM
As you mentioned Portuguese board, which is my local, I think I know what happened.

One legendary created this topic on 22 April and started to give merits to Good old posts
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3370827.0;topicseen

I didn't knew the impact was so big. We are clearly out of smerits there :/

But like the Spanish board, as you said,  the number of good posts per week is small
12492  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Metrics - Section/subsection sMerit breakdown in detail on: May 08, 2018, 03:40:20 PM
Bitmover, fine by me. Some forum users have asked me similar things for the Turkish and Philippine board (total translation or partial replica). A wee reference to the OP would be appreciated, but not mandatory.

The idea should be to spin dialogue on other boards, since I believe the information shown has a lot for discussion, especially on local boards.
It is important though to consider that data does not say it all. As I mention in the OP:

Ideally, this graph should be contrasted with the number of posts in each section/subsection since sMerit Kickoff (there is more than meets the eye to do this, and it would have some other sub-issues that would need to be considered), and also with a “quality” measure of some kind.
For example, a local language board may seem to be very scarcely merited, but without comparing to number of posts, and out of them those with a good standard, we would be jumping to conclusions just based on one of the variables of a multivariable-based problem.

Of course I will make a reference to your original post. Don't worry.

I agree that the number of posts should be considered, as well with the quality.
I believe all local boards share a lower quality than the main boards. But those boards are clearly being more merited.

This is an interesting one too. Those boards are running out of smerits.

12493  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Metrics - Section/subsection sMerit breakdown in detail on: May 08, 2018, 03:08:39 PM
I think that this graph is very disturbing

Announcements, Russian  and Turkish are clearly unbalanced.

Announcements shouldn't receive all those merits. Spammers are getting merit there and ranking up. This looks like a problem in the merit system. Merit system was designed especially to prevent spammers from ranking up.

Why so many Russian and Turkish merit sources??
This should be better distributed.

@DdmrDdmr, can I post some of these graphics in another sessions? I would like to show on my local board

12495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: As BCH Price Rises, Controversy Around Bitcoin Cash Also Surges on: May 08, 2018, 02:26:36 PM
BCH is pumping because they will increase the block size to 32mb.

https://twitter.com/Bitcoin/status/993379867121995776

Masses just think "Well, it's going to be even faster now", so people are buying. This is not sustainable in my opinion.
Until when are they going to increase BCH blocksize?
12496  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Recuperando Forks do Bitcoin na Carteira da Coinomi (bem fácil) on: May 08, 2018, 02:19:41 PM

12498  Economy / Economics / Re: What's the most unique advice to attain financial freedom you have witnessed? on: May 08, 2018, 01:55:47 PM

This woman from the video don't like the hodl strategy lol
She is clearly doesn't fit the standard profile for a financial advisor.

I think what she is saying about what people think of money makes sense in developing countries.
As there are many corrupted politicians, corrupted companies that bribe politicians to steal money and so on, also a lot of privileged bureaucrats who become rich working for the government (like attorneys, judges, etc), many people associate money with corruption and improper privileges. So many people has this feeling she is talking about, that is keeping money away from people.

In Brazil make money and become rich is not 100% cool like in other countries. I can see that in the US, for example, people respect millionaires because they earned their money. In Brazil everyone will think that your money was not earned in a proper way, or that it was inherited and you do not deserve, etc... This is probably common in India too (i think this woman is from India?)

Does anyone have any tidbits of wisdom on financial freedom, investing, crypto, economics they would like to share? Please share the wealth.
I think financial freedom is a common objective of most people here in this forum.

I think financial freedom is  determined by chance, like your topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3048176.0
Also, i believe that those chances are regionalized. There were some opportunities to achieve the financial freedom in Brazil few years ago, when socialists were looting and depredating our economy. Take a look at Brazil's stock market (IBOVESPA):
https://www.google.com/search?q=ibovespa

Ibovespa is like SP500.

From 2016 (when socialists were removed from the government) to 2018 we have a 120% gains. This is amazing gain and at a reasonable low risk.

I think that every few years there are opportunities. Each country and region has it own opportunities. I didn't get one yet, I hope to get the next ones.
12499  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What happened with the Blockchain when there's a new version of the Bitcoin? on: May 08, 2018, 01:06:58 PM
I've been reading this: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/release-process.md

I presume that the update wouldn't do anything much to the blockchain?

And it's basically just updating mainly how bitcoind works?

It is just the update of the full node wallet of Bitcoin Core.

Bitcoin Core, or any other wallet, are just interfaces to access the blockchain.
12500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill gates and buffet - who would take what they say seriously?? on: May 08, 2018, 12:51:54 PM
I think Buffet is just an old guy who was very good in his time, but his time passed.

Come on, he invests in Coca Cola and insurance companies. Is that the future??

About Bill Gates, I think he has some shady intentions. Maybe crypto is threat to his business somehow?

Anyway, Microsoft almost missed the internet.
