I have the MSI 890FXA-GD70 on it's way since I got it for $59.90 after rebate. It has 6 PCIe slots. This MB has been discontinued so you will have a hard time finding it. I was lucky to find one.

If I had to choose something else I would look at:

MSI Z77A-G45   LGA 1155    7 PCIe***   $114.99  after  $10.00  rebate card at newegg

Searching the forum didn't find much on the Z77A-G45 though so I don't know how well it works for mining.

Don't know of any MBs at a reasonable price with 8 PCIe slots Sad

You can attempt it with the Gigabyte UD-7 motherboard and some powered riser cables for 6 GPUs.

I looked at using the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 myself but I believe it has a supplementary SATA power connector on the motherboard to adequately power 4 way SLI.

Cablesaurus states on their powered extenders:

"For use only with traditional motherboards using only a CPU/ATX motherboard power connector, and no supplementary SATA power connector on the motherboard"

Ouch! Hadn't factored in the cost of the CPU  Embarrassed

Argh!

Guess I'm back to the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7.

After spending the last two days trying to select a motherboard I have finally decided on the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4.

Was initially going to use the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 but read that Intel CPUs use less power when idle. I also have a personal preference to Intel.

Here are my reasons for selecting the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4

  • The Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 allows me to use up to 4 GPUs without risers in a HAF XM.
  • If I decide to later use a custom cage it will let me go up to 6 GPUs with risers.
  • I bought into Gigabytes "Ultra Durable 5" marketing.
  • Only a little more than the GA-X79-UD3 with "Ultra Durable 3".
  • 5 year warrantee.
  • Availability

I think I'll be ok in regard to cooling as this will be placed in a data center with an ambient temperature of 61 degrees.

Having searched the forum it doesn't appear that this motherboard has been used much. I read that the MSI 890FXA-GD70 is the one to get but it is hard to come by. The MSI Big Bang-Marshal would be nice but twice the price for two more slots.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Have spent the last two days lurking and even purchase the following equipment:

Corsair AX1200i
Cooler Master HAF XM
MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC       (delivery next week)

Now I just need opinions on the motherboard. Thinking of using a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 since it supports 4 GPUs but am not sure...

Thanks for the whitelist!

As soon as you start reading and posting on bitcointalk, your logged in time will soon be measured in days, not hours Wink

I can attest to that. Only thing is I didn't know about the 4 hour rule so I hadn't bothered to register for an account until I was ready to post :/

I second the choice of give-me-ltc.com for a pool. They do charge a 2% pool fee, but I've had nothing but good luck with them being (and paying) up. Basically, as soon as you accumulate 1 LTC, they deposit it to your address (sometimes within 2 hours of hitting 1 LTC, but they are reliable).

I just got my first payout on give-me-ltc.com. Is it common to not get the full 1 LTC? I only got 0.99246693 LTC.
