1261  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passport wallet vs trezor 1 or trezor 2. on: November 27, 2023, 04:33:13 PM
For instance, the open source Electrum wallet, up to version 4.3.4 (January 26, 2023), which replaced the QR library, had a QR-relevant-vulnerability that potentially could open a  door to hackers.

This was demonstrated by Eric Michaud in his video presentation on SEC-T 2022. (watch from 18:00).
It's not the best video demonstration and a bit hard to follow what he is doing. But the end result is that he retrieved the private key somehow by manipulating the command prompt window. Btw, is that QR code on the right one of the Electrum wallet's private keys or what is it?
1262  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: November 27, 2023, 04:20:21 PM
Nisam naručio Bitcoin only jer ne planiram držati samo BTC na njemu nego i ETH. Budem napisao nekakav review kad ga dobijem.
I Bitcoin-only i Univerzalni model podržavaju isti firmware. Firmware ti određuje šta će od kriptovaluta uređaj podržavati. Ako instaliraš Bitcoin-only frmware, onda možeš samo Bitcoin čuvati.
1263  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BC.game asking me to lose intentionally, then confiscating funds ---> RESOLVED! on: November 26, 2023, 06:16:19 PM
Since OP is satisfied with the outcome, I can't support the flag anymore and will therefore delete my support for it. The negative feedback for the casino will remain until the backlog of unresolved accusations has been resolved.

I had trouble withdrawing money from other casino and I ended up losing the amount I wanted to withdraw. They gave me at least compensation to make up for it.
It's a matter of their goodwill to do that. They are certainly not required to give back the money you gambled away. I would say you were lucky to get something back that you originally didn't have. No idea what caused the delay with withdrawals in the first place, though.

Didn't you know that placing bets on the same game and in the same market is not allowed?
Placing bets on any market that is open and available is allowed regardless of what the bookies try to tell you. If you don't want bets to be placed on a selection, close the market and don't open it again. If you don't want a player to play on your webste, limit him or ban him after paying out the money they are owed.

Usually the user would get limited before they've placed a bet, but in this case, the bet was voided 5 days after the bet was settled.
And if that limit happened before, it would be ok. But since both the casino and betting provider accepted the bet, it should be honored. You did the right thing in the end.
1264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Something you don't have to forget on: November 26, 2023, 10:57:19 AM
Most people never knew Bitcoin will be this huge and important because I wish they do everyone would've at least have 10 of it...
There are billions of people on earth and only less than 21 million bitcoin will ever be mined. There is no way that everyone can get at least 10 coins. There is no way they can get 1 coin each. I can continue decreasing the number but I think you got the point.

but again there are people who have this Bitcoin but because the value then was not encouraging most people lost their wallet password
Some did lose their passwords to centralized services where passwords were required, but the bigger concern is the loss of private keys and seed phrases (once they were introduced). That's what losses your spending ability.
1265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin purchase using proceeds of a sold asset on: November 26, 2023, 10:39:46 AM
@OP
If you are a good friend, you'll tell him not to make stupid decisions like selling your home for an investment in bitcoin or anything else. If he doesn't have money to invest, then he shouldn't invest. You don't take an asset as valuable as your house in a gamble to get more in the future. In reality, most people have something. Tell him to start with a smaller investment. He probably owns something he doesn't use any more. If he has a car, he can sell that and buy a cheaper one. Perhaps he has a bike, a computer, a PlayStation, some jewelry, etc. that isn't essential to his life. All those things are better to sell if you aren't using them and badly want some money to throw around.

Oh look, one more thread that seeking a suggestion from the community toward investing in Bitcoin.

Your friend is right, he need to sell his house and use that money to invest in Bitcoin. My suggestion he need to take a loan as much as possible, don't worry about the interest because he can pay it after Bitcoin break new ATH.
Careful. Some people may read this as financial advice and not understand that it's sarcasm. Wink
1266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Monero - Privacy as the world becomes more dystopian on: November 26, 2023, 10:10:12 AM
I'm not sure there's any "decentralized" exchange for XMR.
What about AgoraDesk? It supports Monero but I am not sure of it's decentralized nature. They have an arbitration feature but I don't know much about it. LocalMonero is basically the same thing with a different name.
Isn't UnstoppableSwap a decentralized solution for Monero?
Also, Robosats supports Monero. I think it's still centralized, but there was a proposal to make it decentralized. No idea how far they have come with that. If I remember correctly, there was talk about the decentralized solution becoming custodial during trades, so that's not optimal.
1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance reaches deal to pay $4.3B settlement to American regulators on: November 26, 2023, 09:01:35 AM
...but the problem is they hold (held?) too much sway over the entire crypto industry and its good to see them taken down a peg.
I don't disagree, however, the parties that brought them down (a bit) didn't do it because of the goodness of their hearts. Their intentions aren't a more fair crypto economy with less manipulation. Their goal is to make themselves more important and have greater affect on prices and public opinion. It's just shifting the ability to influence or manipulate the market to a better-suited party.
1268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi is Faceless on: November 26, 2023, 08:45:37 AM
So that’s why you can’t say Bitcoin is the same as Ethereum where the founder is known. Hence it is faceless.
If we were to compare satoshi and Bitcoin to Litecoin and Ethereum and their founders Buterin and Charlie Lee, we would see a difference. Satoshi's addresses hold millions (if not billions) in value when converted to USD. On the other hand, Lee and Buterin sold their holdings back in 2018 during the bull run. I think Charlie Lee even officially stepped away from the project. That shows you that the Bitcoin spinoffs were quick money grabs meant to enrichen the creators and those close to them.
1269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Closing Central Bank is Non-negotiable says pro-bitcoin Argentina Pres Milei on: November 26, 2023, 08:26:48 AM
You can't rule anything out with this guy as a president, but I don't see him making bitcoin legal tender. More precisely, if he goes down that road, I don't see him making bitcoin the only legal tender. Argentina will probably use one of the world's reserve currencies for the time being and perhaps bitcoin will become a secondary asset adopted alongside. I have never been of the opinion that you should force people to use BTC. Making it the only legal tender does exactly that. It forces you to use it. It should be an option you switch to if you want and if you see value in it. That's the natural way to foster adoption.
1270  Other / Meta / Re: Delete my account on: November 25, 2023, 07:13:19 PM
You can delete you post immediately after you post it, but on some board like service board which I noticed, you will have to wait for 24 hours before you can delete your post there. But if it is a topic, you can not delete it.
If the thread you created has posts from other users, then you can't delete that thread. Only the moderators can. If you had that privilege, it would basically mean that you are deleting other user's posts together with yours. But if no one else posted in your thread (only you did), you can delete it. I don't know if this isn't possible in certain boards like Services.
1271  Other / Archival / Re: When a mod locks a topic, can OP unlock it again? on: November 25, 2023, 09:19:34 AM
...but you can return the topic to another board. If you continue moving topics to inappropriate boards, you may be banned, and as I remember, it happened once.
I forgot the name of the user, but it was a temporary ban, wasn't it? The user returned to the forum later after the ban but stopped posting altogether after a while. I remember the drama. He felt the thread should be where he posted it but the mod didn't agree and thought the content isn't fitting for that board. The topic was then edited a bit only to be moved back and forth again. He was warned not to do it, did it again, and got banned...
1272  Other / Meta / Re: Any 50 BTC donor still active here? on: November 25, 2023, 09:08:43 AM
what are you saying in Essence?? That ofcourse anyone could donate because it was cheap?? Weren't they aware of the increase in value of the currency in the near future?? WHY DIDN'T YOU MINE AND DONATE YOURSELF since it was that easy?
I don't see anything wrong in what Lucius said. The donators do deserve thanks, but I wouldn't take the respect away, regardless of the value of the donated coins at the time. There are no problems with the rest of his post. Bitcoin was cheap at that time compared to today's standards. It was minable with A CPU and later with GPU. And finally, the mining reward was 50 BTC per block. I don't think anyone could anticipate that the price would explode and rise so drastically a decade ago.

And regarding the 'not mining yourself' part, he probably didn't know about BTC at the time, didn't care about it, or didn't think that an experimental digital coin could get so far. He wouldn't be the first to think that way. I laughed at the idea of accepting bitcoin the first time someone suggested it to me for some online work I completed. And that was a very long time ago. If I had, and I hodled those coins until they went up to tens of thousands of dollars, my biggest concern would be whether to take my lambo or helicopter. Wink
1273  Other / Archival / Re: When a mod locks a topic, can OP unlock it again? on: November 25, 2023, 08:21:47 AM
I reported it, yes. I was wondering if there is a policy regarding these issues.
If it was a phishing link, malware, or something nasty, then I would be in favor of banning the person doing it. Other than that, I don't think the forum and its administration will (or should) take the route of censoring information they don't like. If someone wants to discuss how bad Bitcoin or a piece of software is, let them do it. Point out why they are wrong and what knowledge they are missing or ignore them for your own health.

We have that maniac (fxsurfer, antikvark, whatever the name is) who returns every couple of months and creates a few threads bashing bitcoin, everyone argues with him, and then he disappears, only to come back again some day.
1274  Other / Meta / Re: These degenerates don't wanna quit.. is there a way out? on: November 25, 2023, 08:13:32 AM
What sorts of hacks are you referring to here on bitcointalk?
It's probably this case from October that was recently bumped: harizen - ban appeal. But the OP of that thread seems to have given up and hasn't been online for months. He can't expect other forum members to fight his battles if he isn't here himself anymore.

I don't think the forum has an existential problem with account hacking and people left and right losing access to their accounts due to no mistakes of their own. If that was the case, we would see dozens of complaints weekly. We get a few complaints every now and then and it's unfortunate. Although we never understand what exactly happened, it's usually a mistake of the user. Some don't want to admit it, others don't know what they did wrong. But remember, prisons are full of people and they are all innocent if you ask them. I am not blaming anyone, just saying.
1275  Other / Archival / Re: When a mod locks a topic, can OP unlock it again? on: November 25, 2023, 07:53:17 AM
If a staff member locks your thread, you can't unlock it from your end. They have to be the ones to do it. If a mod moves your thread to another location, you can move it back or move it somewhere else entirely. But that's about it. If you feel that a thread should be locked, then you can report it and explain why you think that is. Point out what rules it breaks.

Btw, where is that link he posted to avoid detection? I don't see it in his thread. Did it get deleted?
1276  Other / Meta / Re: Delete my account on: November 25, 2023, 07:43:29 AM
I think you can delete your personal posts on threads after 24 hours but cannot delete a thread you create yourself and that’s what I thought he meant.
It all depends on the subforum where the post was made. In some boards, you need to wait 24 hours before you can delete a post. So, you are right about that. But in others, you can immediately delete it after submission, and there is no need to wait.

OP, go to settings, reset your account password, but before you type the new password, kindly close your eye and type in different letters from your keyboard. Open your eyes after then and don't cross-check the letters, then submit it and walk away. That's a way of forgetting about your account if you don't actually want to gain access to it.
This request isn't about OP losing access to their account and not having a way to log back in to use it. They wanted to have their posts and history cleared due to, what they believe, is sensitive content and information they posted about taxes.
1277  Other / Meta / Re: harizen - ban appeal on: November 25, 2023, 07:36:35 AM
It's really the time for theymos to patch this new update. I wonder what's keeping him to implement 2FA on bitcointalk. It's almost 2024 now.
Perhaps it's not as easy as you think. He did add some other code that PowerGlove created relatively quickly. This time, though, that's not the case. Perhaps the code fixes one issue, but creates three new problems in a live environment. Huh

From https://bpip.org/Profile?p=harizen it shows that he is not banned.

If he is already unbanned i will remove my Feedback but he has to write here before i am doing that.
No, OP was never banned. The notification banner on his account says that it got locked for security reasons.

I have visited his profile and I found that DirewolfM14 has an active flag against harizen and he has also left a negative tag on the user's account. I hope that once OP comes back and makes us sure that his account is unbanned and is safely controlled by him not someone else then you people can remove those tags from his profile.
Of course, they will. No one is punishing the user. The flags and negative tags only serve as a warning to other members not to trust or use anything the account posts until it's back in its rightful hands.
1278  Other / Meta / Re: harizen - ban appeal on: November 24, 2023, 05:49:25 PM
Everything points to OP being hacked and someone else using his login credentials to post that malware-infected software. The question is, how?
There are over 1000 results on Ninjastic Space if you enter R*****X (I don't want to enter the name and give importance to it) with the same or similar ANN that was posted by harizen' account. Most of them date back to March 2023.
1279  Other / Meta / Re: Delete my account on: November 24, 2023, 05:34:17 PM
I’m worried someone can legally attack me and sue me because of financial misdemeanor.
Even if your account was deleted, users on Bitcointalk have post scrappers and everything you posted (just like anyone else) has been scrapped and there is a copy of it. Besides wiping everything you said from the forum, you would also have to ask the creators and owners of those scrappers to delete everything from their records. Glad you decided to stay.
1280  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: November 24, 2023, 05:20:07 PM
Jesi li naručio Bitcoin-only ili onaj univerzalni model?
