1261  Economy / Economics / Re: Cheap food: can you beat this price in your country? on: March 31, 2023, 08:02:35 AM
I work on contract in many third world countries and I see what malnutrition does to people, so I will not recommend people going on a diet like that for extended periods. People should eat a balanced diet that meets their daily nutritional needs, if they can... so add some fruit and sugar and more protein to that meal.  Wink

Some of the people in the rural towns are doing wonders with the little amount of money that they earn...but they still eat a very balanced diet. (Trading crops and skills between each other)

I also saw that some people in the US that are living off discount coupons and barely paying for food. (Some even manage to get money back from the shop, if they work it out correctly)  Roll Eyes

The key to healthy life is keep your food simple and balanced. If you are looking to just feed yourself with simple diet then it wont be expensive whether you are in rural or urban area. In my country one can buy 2 to 3 kg of apple in a price in which you buy a burger from some fancy fast food chain restaurant.
There are many charity organizations too that are helping people in need to eliminate there hunger. I am from Muslim country and there are many organizations that distribute food and fruits to needy people for free throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

Now it looks like Sri Lanka has been kicked out of the direct qualification scenario. New Zealand just need another 32 runs in 22 overs. The 5th wicket partnership between Will Young and Will Young have added 67 runs and more importantly they are scoring runs at a very brisk pace. So Sri Lanka will finish below West Indies in points table for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. Now the next match is very important. Netherlands will take on South Africa at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, and the match will start in around 4 hours from now. South Africa needs to win just one out of the remaining two matches, to gain direct qualification to the 2023 ODI World Cup.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/world-cup-super-league-2020-2022-23-1227837/points-table-standings

I think South Africa need to win both of there matches against Netherlands because a single win will make there points equal to West Indies which is 88. If South Africa win both matches then there points will be 98 and they will be moved to number 8 spot (my understanding is that top 8 teams qualify directly for ODI WC). Netherlands is not a tough team to beat and South Africa just need to be careful in both matches. Sri lanka must have won 2 of there recent matches but they lost both miserably.

I actually do not know if any new country is able to play test cricket. As I said earlier most of them are into T20 & ODI. The ICC cannot just go ahead and remove test cricket. Few countries like England, Australia and New Zealand have a good fan base of test cricket. Moreover most former and current cricketers won't allow ICC to take such a decision. This iwas the primary reason why ICC started world test championship.

Established nations are so good in test cricket, because they have a domestic 4-day system in place which is many decades or even many centuries old. No one can match the standards of Sheffield Shield cricket in Australia or the county championship in England. Even the domestic 4-day competitions in India, Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa maintain a very high standard. For new countries such as Ireland and Afghanistan, setting up such a system may take many years, if not decades (that is if they get access to enough funds).

I don't think any new country that's coming to cricket will be interested in Test. For Afghanistan, T20 is the best option and they are making good progress in that format. Very recently they won T20I series against Pakistan. Moreover in Pakistan and Afghanistan the tape ball cricket of shorter format (5 overs match) is much more popular among youngsters then red ball matches. That's also one reason why there is more T20 cricket in Pakistan and Afghanistan then red ball and Pakistan is going back in Test format.
1264  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 31, 2023, 06:24:50 AM
In the next 1 hour or so, we will get to know whether Sri Lanka needs to participate in the qualifier tournament to get in to the 2023 ODI World Cup. They are on the backfoot as of now, as New Zealand just need another 103 runs to win from 36.3 overs. At one point New Zealand was at 21/3, but then they recovered thanks to the 4th wicket partnership between Will Young and Tom Latham. They have plenty of batting down the order, in the form of Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra. The Lankan bowlers are trying their best to take wickets BTW.

If Sri Lanka fate of making it to ODI world cup depends on this match then they will defiantly play qualify round as just 71 more runs are required by New Zealand in 28 overs with lots of wickets left behind. Sri Lankan batsmen were not able to play New Zealand pace attack - Matt Henry and Henry Shipley as both picked 3 wickets each. Only Pathum Nissanka was able to score 56 runs and there is some contribution from tail other then that its complete batting failure today. Even if Sri Lanka make it to ODI WC then with this performance they have rear chances of making it to next round.
1265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin Was the Only Cryptocurrency? on: March 30, 2023, 11:59:08 PM
I think the reason on why BTC is very successful is due to its competitors on the market. Despite releasing thousands of altcoins with innovative introductions, BTC still remained the dominant cryptocurrency in the market. BTC still emerged as the top cryptocurrency and you can at least say that there was a healthy competition that further boosted its price.

If BTC is the only cryptocurrency, I think it will never reach the same global impact it currently has today. People would somehow force to compare it with fiat and other investment opportunities. Without no competition, it will never attain and reach this kind of level that we have today.

Yes that's very much correct the existence of thousands of cryptocurrency (the centralized one) gives a reason why Bitcoin should be your prime choice. If you see recent shifting of Eth from PoW to PoS, its a clear indication that there are few people that is controlling the currency. While there is no such thing possible in bitcoin.
Bitcoin won't enjoy current status of superiority without the existence of so many alts. These alts gives us opportunity to see what true decentralization is since that is something unique to bitcoin. Not even a single cryptocurrency has that feature.
1266  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the government can really make a way to end poverty or it depends on us? on: March 30, 2023, 11:56:55 PM
Government has a role to play to enhance the life of his constituent since they are the one who will give opportunity or skills to their people to get more better job or create good ideas which can be converted to money for theirselves. If no government support will exist for sure the country will struggle to find good programs to help their people.

But people shouldn't rely on what government could provide since at the end they are also the one who will work for it so thay they will be equip with knowledge and can get better jobs to get out of poverty where they currently on.

The reason why some countries are more developed then others is because of there governments working in right direction by creating job opportunities, providing adequate health and education facilities to its citizens. You can see that countries that are far behind in development is mostly because there governments are involved in corruption.
You are right if we live in a country where government is not doing enough for its people then one must not keep himself dependent on the government rather take some initiative that can improve one's lifestyle.

Being a native born citizen of the United States makes Setija a unique player on a team where many of his teammates were not born in the United States and may not hold U.S citizenship. This diversity brings a unique aspect to the game showing how cricket is a global game that brings people from different backgrounds together. It is also worth noting that UAE players do not have any citizenship ties to the country yet they show it in the game. The United States team hard fought win and their remaining matches add an element of suspense to the tournament and keep the audience engaged. It will be exciting to see how they perform in the next matches and if they make it to the next round of the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

UAE and Oman teams are made up of players that are mostly from Pakistan or India. The Gulf countries policy is very strict in provision of citizenship. Teams like UAE and Oman are making cricket a joke by proving that you can make a national team that can play even World Cup and doesn't have any native player. Top 2 teams from this tournament will play World Cup Qualifier, so far Namibia and Canada are at the top.

United Arab Emirates vs United States of America
Asif Khan's presence at the crease is undoubtedly crucial for UAE to post respectable totals. With two batsmen already hitting half centuries Khan's experience and current form could prove to be the difference between scores of 260 and 300. The USA bowling attack will also target Khan's wicket to restrict UAE to a low total. It will be interesting to see how Khan plays under pressure and if he can take UAE to a competitive total. UAE's lower order batsmen will also need to step up and contribute to the team total. They will have to bat wisely and rotate the strike to support Khan and ensure that UAE reach a challenging total.

The match just ended, with USA winning the match with 6 balls to spare. UAE gave a good target of 279 runs and it's mainly because of Asif Khan ton. UAE batting was superb but there 7 bowlers were not able to pick wickets. USA Saiteja Mukkamalla was unbeaten on 120 runs. UAE need to improve there bowling performance if they wanna remain in the competition. Right now they are at number 4 position.
1269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 30, 2023, 03:58:33 PM
Test format is a different form of cricket and they literally tests the patience , maturity and sensibility of any player .
Pakistan is not good in test format but they are really set in t20 format  so that's the difference.

Pakistan used to be one of the best teams in test format, during the times of Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Anwar. Nowadays there are very few test specialists around the world. Steve Smith and Joe Root are examples. But Pakistan doesn't have any of these specialists. Their players are more suited for limited overs cricket and this is one of the reasons why their performance in the longer format has gone down. When Rameez Raja was the president of the PCB, he revamped the 4-day domestic tournament. Hopefully this will bear fruit in the medium to long term.

That was the time when we have only ODI and test format. Now things are changed very much, these days every player preference is to make it to PSL so that he may get selected for national team. Not many players are interested in Test format these days. Ramiz Raja was doing fine job but he was removed early before completion of his tenure because of government change in Pakistan. Current chairmen of PCB is a journalist who is nothing but a tout of current ruling party.

1271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public Perspective towards Bitcoin on: March 30, 2023, 11:44:14 AM
I agree the government is the biggest barrier to the unpopularity of bitcoin and many people are afraid of bitcoin because they believe in the government. You are right, bitcoin was not created to counter or replace anything, but I see many of us spreading the word that bitcoin will replace fiat and banking, and disrupt government dominance...It's like bitcoin is going against the government, which makes many governments oppose it. Bitcoin is an alternative for us, and the government is still ruling us, it's no use fighting them.

The reason why government is againest decentralized crypto not the centralized one is that government by no means can control it. Its really that simple.
Coming to bitcoin, I would say its not created to replace existing banking and Fiat system rather it has its own reason of existence and will exist side by side with traditional banking system.
The positive news for bitcoin is that despite governments hard stance on it, its community is gradually increasing. The only way bitcoin can progress is through its community since there are rear chances that government will accept it.

UAE will play against PNG in today's ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off match. Compared to PNG, the UAE team is quite strong. The UAE team has several talented players. Their batting line-up is stronger than PNG's. But their performance is erratic. In the last match, the UAE team scored 310 runs against Nepal, but still, they could not win the match. But PNG is not a strong team. If the batsmen of UAE do not bat very badly, then there is no possibility of UAE losing this match. And I think the UAE team will be able to top the points table.

There are two ODIs going on at the moment as part of ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off. Canada is playing with Jersey (until now to my knowledge Jersey is a state in USA). After winning the toss Jersey decided to bowl fast and in 28th over half of Canada team is back to pavilion with just 128 runs on the board. Jersey will have a bright chance to win this game if they can limit Canada under 200.
PNG once again on top against UAE as Chad Soper has picked 4 Wickets. PNG was last in recent ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 but there performance against UAE was impressive.
1276  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 27, 2023, 09:18:32 AM
Pakistan lost by 6 wickets in the previous match and lost by 7 wickets in this match.

In the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) where 200 plus runs were scored in every match and especially the Pakistani batsmen who dominated the runs in PSL are now doing nothing in international cricket. Then who will blame PSL management. Only their home matches produced low-quality pitches where the batsmen got the maximum advantage. One-and-a-half months every player got used to playing on that low-quality batting pitch due to which they failed to score runs on normal pitches at the international level.
Pakistan's new wicket keeper batsman Azam Khan was brilliant in the Pakistan Super League but was a total flop against Afghanistan. I bet for Pakistan two matches in a row where I lost both matches badly. Confidence has gone from Pakistan. I still don't know how long it will take for them to come back.

Sorry to hear about your loss. In last match Afghanistan is favorite, try them may be that can help you in recoving the loss.

It's not only Pakistan batting but bowling also that was a complete failure in both T20I. Pakistan badly missing Shaheen and Haris as new bowlers were not able to pick wickets. The responsibility of this loss lies completely on PCB who eliminated all senior players at once and sent a brand new squad. Ihsanullah bowling must be tested while there are 2 to 3 experienced bowlers in the teams. It's complete nonsense to put responsibility on shoulders of bowlers who are making debut.

What's next? A whitewash or some consolation win for Pakistan?
1277  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and the fall of Twitter on: March 27, 2023, 09:01:08 AM
Please don't take it otherwise to those who are Elon supporters. I myself will not deny his contribution to the crypto world. He is a successful businessman but if he applies the same strategy everywhere as he does in other businesses, the results may not be good there. His loss on Twitter is nothing but his strategy was definitely wrong. If you notice that SpaceX has no competitors then he can succeed in whatever way he chooses, but unlike social media, there are a lot of competitors in this platform. Most of the users were against the decisions that were taken with his Twitter and as a result he was forced to lower the price of Twitter. I am providing a link to finance.yahoo as a reference.
Sorce: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-puts-20-billion-005335181.html

I have also heard many news which are criticizing Elon Musk polices after he take ownership of twitter like payment of monthly fee for blue tick. But I don't think there is decline in popularity of twitter at least in my country i.e. Pakistan. People are still using it as a tool where they can share their opinion or raise voice against government policies and twitter has not changed any stance on it. We need to wait for a year or two to see the financial impact of Elon Musk policies on twitter. Till then we can enjoy this platform.
1278  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs AI Posting on: March 27, 2023, 08:53:52 AM
I think the what we should prioritize now is to implement new rules regarding AI. We all know that AI generates unplagiarized writings on its own way and of course the main purpose of that is become aid to lessen the number of hours spent on creating from scratch. That is also the reason it can cause negative effects on the forum, since it is now easier to construct posts with the aid of AI generated ideas so all the poster have to do is just search and copy paste it. Of course replying to a post is hard since you still have to manually construct your own reply before posting but creating a topic or making threads are now easier to do. What I usually do is just search for a topic and let AI explain it to me and use it as a reference to create my own post. AI really is a huge help in searching not only because it can create well written posts but also it filters a lot of unnecessary informations to save you time from searching it manually.

The AI tools like ChatGPT are created for good but they are now widely miss used. The assignments given by teachers in schools/universities are now done mostly by students using ChatGPT. The down side of such approach is that students are not using the brain to search for data and do the hard work rather do the assignments with comfort. I have tried ChatGPT and at times it give wrong answers but students have developed blind faith in this tool. If you use AI tools to generate posts here then it will affect our ability to communicate with people here in the long run and not many are willing to accept this fact.

1280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 24, 2023, 04:48:44 PM
Surely PCB would have thought a little more before announcing this T20 squad for Pakistan against Afghanistan.  Because in Afghanistan, there are some world famous T20 specialist players who can turn the tide of a match at any moment.

I still don't understand how such simple squared declaration against them is reasonable. In the last T20 World Cup, we saw how dependent Pakistan's batting line-up was on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rezwan. And the bowling line-up was led by Shaheen Afridi but the three were left out of the team and declared square.

But since the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced such a team, there must be a reason behind it. Hopefully Pakistan will do much better against Afghanistan without Md Rizwan Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi.

Pakistan won the toss and choose to bat first. Half of Pakistani batting lineup is back in pavilion after just 8 overs. Majority of players in Pakistan team are new and selected on basis of there performance in last PSL. Projected score looks to be 100 or 120. Imad and Shadad are batting and they are last recognised batting pair. They both are Pakistan last hope and if Afghanistan can get them out by 10 or 12th over then game will be very much over for Pakistan.
