NEWS:

  • We have been DDoSed
  • Problem was partially solved and the server is up. Should me more protected now.
  • Due to this downtime pool's fee will be lowered to 0%-Proportional, 7%-PPS for a few days while the pool is not completely fixed yet
  • E-mail confirmations will not be sent to you in the next hours
  • Payments are not available at this moment, but will be fixed in a couple of minutes

Problem is located, pool will be up soon.
I'll make additional notice about this.

Whats the ETA on downtime? I'm looking at moving all of my miners already, this is too much...
You can switch your miners to/from any pool instantly, there is no need to stop mining for hours.
I can't provide an exact ETA since it doesn't depends only on me, but i'm trying to get things done ASAP.

Tired of waiting Just joined BitClockers.com more secure pool.
How do you know if it's more secure or not ?
Just asking, no offence.

I did some posts on this situation in my thread and in IRC channels.

tycho, just perma-block any ip's coming from russia or china and be done with it. that will stop a DDOS.
Many of my users are from Russia. And no, that won't stop a DDoS - it's distributed.
There are better ways of protection against DDoS, but it takes some time to set up initially. I'm doing this now.
1268  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1600 Gh/s Mining Pool] SSL, API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: May 30, 2011, 12:19:17 AM
There do seem to be some regular periods when I look at my stats page and see several instances of "rewards = none." I very highly doubt its a connection problem as internet connectivity is 100% working during these periods.
Your mining speed may be too low to submit a share for each block, especially the short ones.

the pool is great and tycho you do a good job always monitoring and getting it back up as quickly as you can and you respond right away.  but that doesn't discount the fact that you keep going down reguarly, pretty much almost daily now, and for extended periods of time.  can you setup something so that there is 0 downtime?  an automatic backup of some sorts?
Yes, I had some problems, but I won't agree with the "daily" part, and usually those problems caused only a couple of minutes of downtime.

I'm using a failure notification service that sends me SMS when something is not right. But there is no any automatic way to "fix" DDoS if you aren't already using some protection services (which I'm setting up now).

There is a DDoS attack happening against deepbit servers.
Now I'm taking some countermeasures against this.

Sorry again for the delay.

We have some problems, trying to find out the cause, sorry.

Stats page updated with mtGox rate and pool's luck history.

is this permanent?
Yes. Currenly both hostnames will work, but setting new one is recommended.

UPDATE:

Please use pit.deepbit.net as the hostname in your miner settings instead of deepbit.net

So Tycho said he'd comment about hte eta on the email notify system within 16 hours, I wonder if it'll be tonight or tomorrow morning
This depends on your timezone :)
Initially I wanted to implement failure detection by monitoring submitted shares, like it's done now for making worker name red, but then we decided that this may generate some false alarms due to randomness of the process, so now i'm replacing this system by another that will watch over getwork requests, not the shares.
1276  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1500 Gh/s Mining Pool] SSL, API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: May 29, 2011, 09:49:28 AM
Would I be correct in assuming that the pool was down for a bit today and that's why the rewards for about 6-7 hours were "none?"
No, the pool was not down today.
This may be caused by a connection problem at your side or switching to PPS mode.
1277  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1500 Gh/s Mining Pool] SSL, API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: May 28, 2011, 03:49:59 PM
GAH!, my miner shutdown two of it's four GPU's due to heat overnight!
Email warnings please? how long?
+1 ETA on email notifications?
I'm thinking about it right now.
I can't give you exact time at this moment because it may be not precise enough, but I will post an update on this information in next 15 hours.
1278  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: miner fail alarm on: May 28, 2011, 02:43:31 PM
I'm working on e-mail notification. That was one of the reasons to confirm your address. Not sure if it will help if your router blocks e-mails too when fails.
If you use Outlook, you can set a special sound to play on receiving mail with specified subject or "from" address.
1279  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~1500 Gh/s Mining Pool] SSL, API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: May 28, 2011, 10:24:15 AM
One more question
I got 12 confirmations. Is that all, Or I'd need more?
Is it 1 confirmation for each BTC transacted?
like If I am to receive 100 BTCs I'll need 100+ confirmations?
It depends on your confidence in that transaction.
If you know that it's real and not some kind of fraud, then you may spend it just after the first confirmation.

If you want to be sure - you may need to wait for 2-6 confirmations before doing something like shipping a package to your buyer.
