1262  Economy / Economics / Re: Does a side job/business improve your finanical stability ? on: June 12, 2023, 10:23:10 PM

To make a living, we must work. In uncertain days like now facing the global economic downturn, a stable job with high income becomes a scarcity. A side job or business seems like more necessary than ever, which can minimize the risks of losing your current job, ending up pennyless. However, a side job/business also takes time and efforts and can never be attained whenever we need it. What did you do or will you do in order to ensure your finanical stability despite all unfavorable circumstances ?

I think this brings up a very important topic here..always have a few months worth of living expenses saved up and stored somewhere "safe".  What I mean by safe is, something like a bank account that you can trust ( I recommend online banks that don't have brick and mortar locations which enable them to offer a higher interest percentage).

But sure, having a side job is always a good idea but you can't drive yourself insane with work, otherwise what's the point to all of this?
1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stories about lost Bitcoin on: June 12, 2023, 10:18:56 PM
Ouch, sounds like you should have done a little more studying of bitcoin before actually using it, but I guess any hard lesson learned is a lesson learned if he take from it.

I think the only time that I lost bitcoin was also in my early days, probably 2015ish rang.  I sent bitcoin to the incorrect address from the company I was trying to purchase physical goods from.  It wasn't a lot of money at the time, but it's added up over the years.  Lost to the "abyss".  Happens.
1264  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 12, 2023, 10:15:53 PM
I don’t think Tyler Herro makes a difference either way. They’re playing in Denver so they’ve got altitude and the home crowd working against them. Denver will be wanting to finish them off and I’m pretty sure that’s what will happen. Likely in a blowout as Miami resorts to hoisting 3s. That being said, I think you have to bet on Miami tonight. The odds on Denver just aren’t worth participating in.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out how to bet this game right now, and I think I'm with you on this.  On one hand the Denver Nuggets are clearly the superior team, there's just no question about it, but on the other this is life or death for the Miami Heat, and I'm just not sure that I can put my money down on a 9 point spread.

On one hand I'm kind of hoping to wait to bet the game and see if the Heat can take an early lead so I can try and get the spread at a lesser number, but on the other maybe I just take the +9 points with Miami.

Not sure that any other bet makes sense here..
1265  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 12, 2023, 10:11:37 PM
The Houston Rockets seem to think they’re going to be able to get James Harden on their roster for next year, but have come out to say that in the event they are unable to get Harden, they will be pursuing Kyrie Irving. Not sure Kyrie has any interest in playing there, but I suspect after his antics the last few years he won’t have as many options as he thinks.

Kyrie for example. I hope Dallas is smart enough to not him him what he is asking for. He is just not worth the money and the stress that comes with it. I just read Houston might be interested in getting him if they fail to land James Harden.
Jalen Brown is also still undecided what to do. He demands a lot of money and of course he is a strong player but he is not reliable enough to be considered a max contract guy I think.

You should read the thread to not double post. I posted this already.  Grin

More news slowly coming in. Fred VanVleet has declined his $22.8 million player option. That means he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Many teams will be interested to sign him I guess. He has been a solid PG over the past years.

By the way, Tyler Herro is now "questionable" for today's game, not ruled out anymore. So there might be a small chance we gonna see him. Maybe they throw him in the mix for some minutes and see how he feels, they have nothing to lose anyway.

I sure wish the Chicago Bulls didn't have this whole mess with Lonzo Ball and not knowing if the kid is ever going to come back and be a decent player again, because if we didn't have this issue then maybe the Bulls would have the cash to go out and try and sing VanVleet.

I'm a huge VanVleet fan having gone to SIU for college, which was in the Missouri Valley conference where Fred played during his college days at Wichita State (before they left for the BigEast /AAC).  Any guys from that conference that stand out I tend to follow through their careers in the NBA (not that there's many of them). He was a tournament monster, I always knew he'd go pro, but I didn't expect him to have a career like he's having.
1266  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Easy or hard to quit? on: June 12, 2023, 10:04:22 PM
Can you quit gambling if you make a life changing money and never go back to gambling?

I asked this because those who made some money through gambling near me always go back to gamble and they end up losing everything they once made through gambling.

Is it fine to say that people should not go back into gambling once they made high amount of money? Because the chance of losing that money again is very high, even if they don't use all the money to gamble at once, gambling can take it all back in time.

Have you ever won a high amount of money from gambling and managed to not lose them all back to gambling? And to date, you are still gambling?

I personally feel that if anyone has ever been addicted to gambling, whether that's currently or in the past, should never gamble again.  I think it's often times too difficult for people whom have had troubles with excessive gambling, to just try and limit themselves going forward, instead of not doing so at all.  It's like drug addicts, the vast majority who've had a drug problem, quit, and then try coming back to do just "a little bit", often go back to going fully in again..it's just too hard to limit for most people.

Thankfully I don't have this issue, so the more I make in my job, the more I'm likely to gamble (always within reason).
1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi nakamoto was there that is why BTC come to stay. on: June 12, 2023, 01:41:27 AM
I don’t know that using bitcoin as a nations currency like El Salvador has, has really been all that much a success. I do think there still a lot of room for growth and improvement when it comes to being able to use bitcoin as a global currency, but I think we are still a ways away at this point.

Hopefully things start to improve sooner than later.
1268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Crypto another form of gambling? on: June 11, 2023, 02:05:10 AM
Absolutely it should not be considered a form of gambling. Anyone who compares cryptocurrency/bitcoin to gambling, or a “form of”, has completely misunderstood the general consensus of what bitcoin is. These are the same people who couldn’t tell you what a blockchain is to save their lives, yet for some reason feel that they can describe bitcoin by comparing it to a simple form of “gambling”.
1269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 10, 2023, 02:21:14 AM
Miami Heat starting to bring this game closer. Even though I put some bitcoin on the Denver Nuggets, I’d still like to see this game be a good one.  I don’t think the Heat will be able to close the gap though, and think Denver is just too strong for them. Jokic is just such a beast.

Hoping to see more “playoff Jimmy”. He’s not been that guy this series for some reason. Go
1270  Economy / Economics / Re: Will chatgpt really destroy the job market? on: June 08, 2023, 11:06:58 PM
I think it's important people first understand that ChatGPT and other "AI bots" of it's ilk, aren't true "AI" yet, or "AGI", artificial general intelligence.  When AGI is discovered, that's the true game changer.  Then AI will be able to think, self reason, self educate etc, without barriers that programmers code in which keep them from being "human like".

I think technology in general has hurt jobs over the years, but it also creates others, and forces man kind to re-establish how things are done.  I don't think this will be a huge worry inside the next decade or so, but there will come a time it gets worse, that's for sure.
1271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was shocked that my Neighbor also used bitcoin as mode of payment on: June 08, 2023, 11:02:45 PM
So did you pay for any items with bitcoin yourself?  I appreciate you sharing this story with us.  I'm curious as to how his cousin "earns a living with bitcoin" and how that made your neighbor want to get involved with bitcoin and start accepting it at his store.  Hopefully he's got a realistic idea of how it all actually works.

I say bravo to him though.  It's important that people use bitcoin as a means of payment in my opinion.  This is how bitcoin adoption will grow, or one way anyhow.
1272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can we do, should do, or not do as Bitcoin supporters at this time? on: June 08, 2023, 10:58:20 PM
We have already heard about the Binance and Coinbase cases with the SEC. There is even a rumor that another centralized exchange is about to declare bankruptcy. The message all over the internet is 'withdraw your bitcoin from exchanges.' Despite this apparent attack, Bitcoin's price remains fairly stable. It is having no effect. But then, do we just sit back and do nothing aside from saying to avoid centralized exchanges? What can we do or should do, or not do as Bitcoin supporters at this time?

"The message all over the internet is 'withdraw your bitcoin from exchanges.".. as it should be.  No one should ever have their bitcoin or coins of any type for that matter sitting on an exchange.  I don't know how people haven't learned that by now, especially after the FTX debacle, but many haven't.

Just keep supporting bitcoin.  Buy it, then immediately move it off the exchange.  No one needs to leave their coins on exchanges in order for bitcoin to succeed.
1273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 08, 2023, 10:55:39 PM
That Jokic game was even more impressive than I thought. The numbers were crazy, ya, but I didn’t realize this was the first 30/20/10 game in NBA Finals history. To do it against a defensive specialist like Bam too… Crazy. Jokic is really showing that he should have won the MVP. I hate that the voters always give guys the MVP before they deserve it and then snub them later when they do deserve it because they already got one (or two).

That's just how it works when it comes to MVP.  The year Derrick Rose won the MVP I was sure as shit happy, but he didn't truly deserve it, Lebron did. But, I believe Lebron had won at least the one right before it, if not the two before his..so they simply wanted to give it to the young gun who came out guns a blazing saying "why can't I be mvp".  It was the best story line for the NBA and they are always going to lean best story over who truly deserves it.  IMO anyhow.

So many trade scenarios being tossed around all the sudden. Usually this would wait until after the Finals. I guess without a major superstar in this year’s Finals people are going a little crazy. I’m reading that DeAndre Ayton is as good as gone out of Phoenix and they’re trying to get Damian Lillard or Draymond Green and Jordan Poole in return. Phoenix sounds like they’ll be the first team making big moves.

You wouldn't call Jokic a major superstar?  I'm not so sure you can leave Butler off that list too after this season.  He was already right there, but this may have put him in to that conversation.
1274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 08, 2023, 10:50:38 PM
It wasn't a very big bet that I made last night, but at least it got me a few satoshis to keep betting this championship series without having to reload my online gambling site with bitcoin. I didn't end up betting any props last night, but I did pick out a couple just to see how I would have done, and I would have of course killed it.  So, next game I'm definitely doing so prop bets.  Wish there wasn't so many days in between each game.

1275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are giving too much importance to exchanges on: June 07, 2023, 10:28:45 PM
6 months ago, my savings went down because of the FTX debacle. I've never used FTX, I've never been a customer of this company, but my savings are in BTC, and because of that failure, BTC's value went down, and so went my savings.

Today, bis repetita. I've never used Binance. I've never been a customer of this company, but because the SEC sues Binance, BTC is down, and so are my savings, so I have a message to all bitcoiners out there.

Exchanges and BTC are 2 different things. One exchange going down doesn't mean BTC must follow.
Binance will disappear? I don't give a damn.

That's pretty damn risky to have your savings in bitcoin like that.  What I think you need to understand is that bitcoin is still a new thing.  It's a new asset, and a new investment to a lot of people (even though technically it's not an investment, it's a revolutionary payment system).  So it still being pretty new, any event like this involving a major exchange is going to effect the minds of many, even  if it shouldn't , like you point out here.
1276  Economy / Economics / Re: If they have the solution, why are banks still failing? on: June 07, 2023, 10:24:23 PM
Having worked in finance for nearly two decades now, one thing that I've come to learn is that you can't trust banks.  Not the big huge banks anyhow, there is a difference between them and major banks like Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America etc.

Banks are corrupt, and I don't believe they have the moral capability to ever help make things right for others besides themselves.
1277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe are physical exchanges in your neighborhood. on: June 07, 2023, 10:20:10 PM
I believe  the topic speaks volume for itself as it is already self explanatory.
This question was born out of a real life experience  where a petty trader was publicly  harassed by some uniformed security  personnels claiming  to be some police  officers and after some investigations the security  personnels claimed that the woman aided some criminal  activities  as well as some internet fraud simply because she made her private exchanges public and the government as some point also frowns  at the use of bitcoin  in my country.

Now my worries is that, this singular act has driven alot of fear to some low key bitcoin holders in my neighborhood  even myself and there are shops I hope in town that operate physical  exchanges.

~Do you think those dealers are safe?
~And what's the fate  of physical  cryptocurrency exchanges(r) in your country?

Let's  discuss

So is it legal or not in your country to house a bitcoin exchange?  I'm a bit confused by what you wrote.  Do your countries financial regulatory bodies have control over bitcoin in any way inside your country?

I think whether or not others should be concerned would be starting with the legalities of it, but if it is legal across the board than maybe they are starting to take actions for it not to be..
1278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever felt remorse after gambling? on: June 07, 2023, 10:16:42 PM
I don't ever feel any remorse after gambling because first off, there's nothing wrong with it if you do it in moderation and your actions are affecting anyone else.  Secondly, I only gamble as a hobby, and I would compare a gambling loss to something sort of like my favorite teams losing in sports, it sucks but I knew it was a possibility but there's nothing I can do about it so I'm moving on.
1279  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: June 07, 2023, 10:14:42 PM
I keep going back and forth for this game.  On one hand I think Denver is simply the better team, on the other the Miami Heat have been defying the odds all season long, so it's kind of scary betting against them.  I still think I'm putting down a few satoshis on Denver at -3.

Some interesting parlay bets I've been considering.  Wondering what you guys think about some of these parlays?

1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Also Girls Should Be learned About Bitcoin on: June 06, 2023, 10:29:37 PM
How nice of you, after 3 years on this forum you finally shared your knowledge with your sister.
And obviously, it's far better since this ain't one of those fantasy merit fishing stories!

She told me that she is interested to be a Bitcoin user. And already she started to keep some money from daily pocket money and after that she will invest in Bitcoin.

That's not being a Bitcoin user!
What you have told your sister is that Bitcoin is money-making machine into which he has to pour her savings to get moar money!
Which as always will have catastrophic effects for a lot of guys going this path if we enter another bear market and not a bullish season like everyone is expecting.

I still can't wait for a topic of somebody telling their relatives about Bitcoin on how this is censorship-resistant, how it works 24/7, how nobody can ban you from using it, how it allows you to pay somebody a continent apart, how you can store it safely without anyone ever knowing and not once mentioning the price or making rain money with one quarter. But I guess that would be a surprise even for users here!

OP- You need to change your title to "Girls should be TAUGHT about bitcoin".  Your title is very poor English.

@stompix I agree with you whole heartedly here.  I am really tired of post after posting being about "making profits".  Working in finance, and teaching people about finance for a living , this really drives me insane.  But as you rightfully point out, bitcoin isn't about "profits', it's about the breakthrough technology that is blockchain, it's about a decentralized payment network,  etc etc.

I appreciate you pointing this out.
