12641  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another phishing site on: March 31, 2019, 10:52:51 AM
Well damn. At least this one is easier to spot though as the domain is very different, compared to that bitcointalk.to one. Screw the latter, I admit I almost got tricked into that one.

Another reason to use "google:bitcointalk.org" on your search queries(assuming you're using Google) to make sure the legitimate results come out.
12642  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help Please!! on: March 31, 2019, 02:42:14 AM
If you're not in a rush, you can probably try selling your gift card on the Marketplace[1] section.

12643  Economy / Exchanges / Re: the hack of popular South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb on: March 30, 2019, 04:31:19 PM
It was an insider mistake, not a hack(based on what they said, at least).

Full announcement post(english translation on the bottom): https://cafe.bithumb.com/view/board-contents/1640037

Also, they claim that their user's funds are left untouched.
12644  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: SaveinBitcoin - free open source software to buy bitcoin automatically every day on: March 30, 2019, 03:51:23 PM
I could only find a "Service Announcements (Altcoins)" section, which is not relevant as this is about Bitcoin itself.

There are two Service Annoucements sections. One being for altcoins, and here's the other one on the Economy section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=84.0

12645  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinxcryptomining.com is it a scam? on: March 30, 2019, 03:49:11 PM
Just as always, all cloud mining services are simply just either:

1. A scam
2. A total waste of money

Looks like a scam to me, but regardless if it's a scam or not, it's really not wise to put money in it.
12646  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: SaveinBitcoin - free open source software to buy bitcoin automatically every day on: March 30, 2019, 02:25:54 PM
Hey there.

1. I suggest you move this thread to the Service Announcements[1] section instead. The move button is on the bottom left corner of this topic's page.

2. Please make the fonts smaller.

12647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Giving Bitcoin Starters on: March 30, 2019, 09:00:41 AM
I think hes more mature than other 15 year olds out there and besides, i believe that experience will teach you more lesson than school. Its okay if he will lose it all and tell him thats its part of the game but so far i guess he's doing good. Experiencing cryptocurrency at a young age is great that i wish i could learn that too on my younger days. He's my brother after all and i will guide him until last.

Well. Good for you for being financially stable enough to not care much about 0.2 BTC. If you don't mind asking, where did he currently earn most of his profit? On trading? Or gambling?
12648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Bitcoin Movie ‘Crypto’ Shows Hollywood’s Total Misguidedness on: March 29, 2019, 05:25:27 PM
I would. I liked how "Silicon Valley" briefly touched the topic of cryptocurrencies and ICOs, and I guess it would be nice to see a movie or series about business and tech that dwell on the topic more. Not something where cryptos are used by mafia to launder money, but where people are exploring the potential of cryptocurrencies, dev teams are arguing about the future direction, startups fight for best utilising the tech etc. I'd definitely prefer this kind of a story over a shitty Hollywood action movie. And I'm sure there are others like me. I think the audience is not really as dumb as people who make these kind of movies think it is. I bet the movie will fail in terms of box-office, so no huge damage to cryptos will be done.

I definitely would too, and a good number of people in the tech industry in general for sure. The thing is though, is that they're most likely catering to the masses, not to the more technically literate people; so I really wouldn't call this "misguided", as like I said in a previous reply, I really don't think being historically accurate is the goal, but to put on a drama show for the masses to enjoy.
12649  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 95% fake volume :) on: March 29, 2019, 04:33:12 PM
this shows the real image of BTC.

It more of shows and confirms the real colors of those exchanges that fake their trading volume just to show up higher on the Coinmarketcap trading pairs and to show up higher on exchange rankings by trading volume.
12650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Bitcoin Movie ‘Crypto’ Shows Hollywood’s Total Misguidedness on: March 29, 2019, 03:38:46 PM
*snip*

Yeah pretty much this. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the intentions of the movie writers/directors/etc is to have a historically accurate movie in the first place; but something of "drama" and something that would entertain the audience. It's just that one of the main elements of the movie is cryptocurrencies, and that's pretty much it.
12651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency and banking apps targeted by new Android malware on: March 29, 2019, 01:20:45 PM
Creating malwares seem to be easier way to earn crypto, and it is easy to create malware than working in a successful ico,
Well, it can be an easier way to make money, but it doesn't automatically mean that you should, unless you're an ultimately shitty person that's a total waste of oxygen.

it’s very positive to me the malwares can be a hype soon.
I mean, where have you been though. Malware and viruses have existed to do mostly shitty stuff since forever.
12652  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Thoughts on the QuadrigaCX CEO suspicious death??? on: March 29, 2019, 01:15:09 PM
Not a victim, but yea, it's too shady to actually be true(though I'm not claiming it's not true). Basically, the CEO, which is already ill in the first place, still didn't decide to actually hand over the private keys to another person, or better, use a multi-sig; then, he allegedly "died" in India whereas the place he died in is allegedly a place where fake death certificates are being made(I have no proof, don't quote me on this).

For the whole situation, if anything, it's either fraud, or them being super unprofessional and irresponsible.
12653  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Just had account hacked. Please help :S. on: March 29, 2019, 01:08:55 PM
As a junior member, even early one, how come your account was hacked? What for? And if your account be hacked it should not border you much because I know you can't have much in that account. I advice you open another account and continue your life. Just be more  careful with the new account.

If you actually read OP's main post you will immediately know that OP wasn't referring to his Bitcointalk account, but his exchange account. Maybe actually read the whole post first next time.
12654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency and banking apps targeted by new Android malware on: March 29, 2019, 03:07:32 AM
For software wallets, I always suggest using a mobile phone instead of a computer, but unfortunately smartphones are slowly but surely closing up to computers in terms of how frequent it's being targeted by malware and viruses. Regardless, another perfect reason to not be cheap and invest in a good and reputable hardware wallet.

Hasn't malware always been about getting money? No surprise it's targeting banks and crypto.
Mostly for monetization purposes, but not necessarily stealing money. Some are for botnet usage, spreading PPC links, etc.
12655  Other / Meta / Re: Blcok specific People! on: March 29, 2019, 02:47:14 AM
Unfortunately, there's no function like that only for ignoring someone's post or someone's PM.

Yep. This is pretty much your only option, on the current forums at least. Why would you like that feature though? It's easily rendered useless if the person you "blocked" opens your topic/reply on a browser window whereas the blocked user's account isn't logged in.
12656  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does anybody know Equicex Black Card? Possible scam? on: March 28, 2019, 05:24:54 PM
I really have no idea as it's the first time I've heard of that service, but there could be a lot of reasons why you haven't received the card yet. Could be due to delays, shipping issues, and such. I wouldn't call them a scam just yet. Have you tried contacting them yet about the shipping? Also, how much did you pay for the card?

They seem to be quite active on their social media, which is a good thing. Though that doesn't make them necessarily not-a-scam. Since we aren't 100% sure about their legitimacy, as always, keep most of your funds on cold storage. Don't send majority to the card's wallet.
12657  Other / Meta / Re: Grant Me Legendary Status on: March 28, 2019, 05:14:04 PM
*snip*

Your reasoning on why you wanted the legendary rank is very reasonable and understandable; and I'm not going to argue if you really deserve that rank or not. But regardless if you totally deserve that rank or not, we have rules and requirements to follow. And the requirements to have the legendary status, is to have between 775 and 1030 activity points. So we simply have to follow that whether we like it or not.
12658  Other / Meta / Re: Grant Me Legendary Status on: March 28, 2019, 04:50:41 PM
You've also made double the posts, in 1/2 the time.
Your point being?

Lets face it, if you're not activity seeking out merit, farming internet points, you are not going to obtain them.
I've been posting here in the past and on the "other" bitcoin forum before the merit system and even before I joined and knew that signature campaigns existed; and that's not going to change. and no, you can even check my post history. I quite rarely post those topics and replies that are a few paragraphs long. You don't necessarily need to "seek out merit" to be eligible to receive them, you just need to be decently knowledgeable regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
12659  Other / Meta / Re: Grant Me Legendary Status on: March 28, 2019, 04:41:10 PM
How is attaining 500-1k merit virtually impossible? Others have done it. I myself received 340 merits[1] in a decent timespan(I think) without trying super hard.

This dude, theyoungmillionaire[2], managed to earn 672 merits even though he's still just a Sr. Member and currently only has 308 activity points.

The problem is on you, not on the merit system.

12660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: STOP FOLLOWING BITCOIN WITH SENTIMENTS! on: March 28, 2019, 04:04:29 PM
Assuming you were referring to prices and the markets in general, then it's debatable. There's nothing wrong with following bitcoin itself, both the technical aspects and the markets, and watching the price movements. The problem arises when you start listening to these so called "market experts" or "market analysts" that make bold price predictions.
