0) General Information + Hardware Needed
This miner is an little machine that packs a punch.  With it's long sleek design and use of the Spondoolies-Tech RockerBox ASICs you have a miner with a lot of potential.  It could be arguably the miner with the most versatility.  Let it use it's power and be able to be pushed to speeds of up to 1.7T or under clock that same machine to 700-800 watts and get over 1.2T! (Credit to philipma1957 on under clock info - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=872014.msg9843564#msg9843564 )

Hardware needed in addition to SP20 miner.

  • Standard power supply with 4 PCI-E 6 Pin adapters (Suggested 1200 watts or bigger)(*With it's amazing under clock some are using a good amount smaller)
  • Computer to set initial pool and configuration settings
  • Network cables - 1 network cable to go to your network

1) Unpacking
I was very impressed with the shipping.  It made it to the United States in around three day’s of shipping.   The box shown below was made to take a beating.  The SP20 is packed with cardboard stratigaclly placed to keep it from ever being touched in shipping.

2) The Miner
Below are images to showcase the miner.

3) Install
The install is very easy.  You will need to install the 4 PCI-e cables to a proper power supply for your settings.  I am using a lightning 1300 in the case of this install. Next use that network cable to connect your miner to your network. You will receive a miner with DHCP enabled allowing it to connect to your network no matter what IP address range you use.

They also have a very nice feature with the following web address it shows the Spondoolies gear on your network - www.myminer.io .  This is shown below it is a very nice feature if you are not using static IP's.

4) Conclusion
The SP20 was the perfect miner to put in my new mining area.  It is very cold and the miner endures single digit Celsius readings.  I am able to run at the around high 1.6 – 1.7T. It ran perfect in the cold and I had no issues with temperature. Noise was not a issue with my mining area.  The duct fan was actually louder then the SP20 but it is not something that you will be mining with in your living room (unless underclocked and fan is turned down).

I cannot stress the asset of its versatile over and under clocking.  Right now with the crazy mining prices I am much more worried about getting the higher end of the miners ability.  With decent priced electricity I can worry about hash rate alone.  In a few months I will be worried about efficiency and will be using the great under clocking ability.

I want to thank Spondoolies for a great product.  I am happy to try to answer questions if you have some.  With wanting high hashrate and operating in the cold hopefully this review will have a slightly different view.  I was lucky enough to meet Spondoolies in The North American Bitcoin Conference in Chicago.  I can say they are just as pleasant to talk to in person as they treat customers online.
12682  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Easiet S3 Auto Reset Method on: December 17, 2014, 07:18:01 AM
As far as antminer auto restart there is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596178.0 .

I have not used the auto feature in it but it should do it for you.
12683  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies SP20 review - A Green miner with a Loud fan on: December 17, 2014, 05:24:52 AM
each of the two PSU draws only 220W on wall! With only 440W I can get 940GH

That is the lowest I have seen.  Wow that is a impressive under clock.
12684  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s1 100% discarded or rejected on: December 17, 2014, 02:39:08 AM
I don't know how S1 is but some old miners require proxy on PC to run or get high reject rate.   I had only experienced it on old scrypt miners.

12685  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Starting to Mine USB ASIC? on: December 17, 2014, 02:34:44 AM
Hello,
I have found out about Bitcoin mining a few days ago and I have read into it and found it quite interesting. I do understand how to mine but I don't know what hardware and software to get. I was thinking preferably a USB ASIC miner with an old computer I've got. My price range is around $200 maybe $250 tops. What miner and mining software do you suggest I get?
Thanks.
Btw I also live in Australia, do you know if this would cause any shipping problems?

They ship miners worldwide.   Don't know your customs exactly but I'm sure the big companies know the procedure.  Biggest thing is if you pay a VAT.  And also your electricity price.

There is not really a great usb asic.  Prisma's would have been the modern one but they did a buy back.  And the thumb drive miners are novelty.  I hope someone comes up with one but I don't know that there is a great usb controlled one right now.

I would suggest saving up and possibly looking at the SP-20 they went down on price.    It has long term mining with underclocking. But is above price you mention.

PPS: I'm concentrating on the other parts like mining experience and stuff with my review, as I see I can't beat everyone else's photos. Tongue

No Y axis? I had a VR headset and Nintendo Power Glove ready to go, but your picture is unfortunately lacking the necessary coordinates...

Haha I was thinking about that, but then I'd have to stitch it into a 3D model and display it in heavy flash rather than lightweight java.

Great review from a legend.  And also that is one heck of a 360 Dogie.
12687  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 16th diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 16, 2014, 04:50:13 PM
Bitwisdom:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    40,007,470,271
Estimated Next Difficulty:    39,416,015,999 (-1.48%)
Adjust time:    After 74 Blocks, About 12.4 hours

Will be interesting once paycoin mining is done what this does.
12688  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why are the prices 10x? on: December 16, 2014, 04:48:45 PM
Looks like the prices are dropping on the rentals now slowly.  how does paycoin actually compare to BTC?

I have read some about them but I would be interested in a real person saying how they compare...

Thanks

Fahlcor

If you look at their site it shows this.  They show being able to use the coin in a debit card like way linked to account.   You could spend anywhere almost.

If it all happens no one knows.  But lots of speculation, especially on price.
12689  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Non-Hashing Module in Dragon 1T on: December 15, 2014, 11:33:31 PM
I've got a module in my 4 module Dragon that the leds do a quick flash when you turn it on, but they don't light up green when it initializes or starts.  I've swapped with other modules and they still work with the connectors.  Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Is it still working and the leds go off?  Or are you saying that the module stops with the leds and lose function of it?

Best advice treat the private key like gold.  Put it on a usb and paper wallet.  Put those in a safty deposit box or other safe places.  Treat them like money as they are money.

You can get physical wallets aswell.   One example is my sig campaign I'm in put so much BTC in a account and put the paper wallet in the silver wallet, and store it safely.  Other options are like trezor that is a hardware based.   You have lots of options if you want a wallet such as these.
12691  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Considering accept Bitcoins for services - recommendations? on: December 15, 2014, 11:20:20 PM
Peter,
Any cons or pros on mentioned services? (if you are using it of course)
Thanks

Pro's it will get you USD so you are not dealing with BTC up's and downs.  Con if you sell all your coins for USD you lose a upside when bitcoin goes up.

I don't think there is a whole lot of con's.  You can decide how much you want in cash or btc.
12692  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking to custom build a rig on: December 15, 2014, 07:45:51 PM
Look at buying SP20.  Has lot's of underclocking possibility.

You will need to buy from someone such as SP, Bitmain, etc.   You really can not make your own asic.  You can buy them and grow, but as far as "building" it would cost more then what you can buy from manufacturers.
12693  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: If you had 10K to invest would you mine Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2014, 07:41:24 PM
What is your electricity cost?

Also you need to know power how much you have, and how many circuits.  During summer count on a AC bill and doing less gear.  In winter if lucky have free/cheap cool air and can use it.

So main things you need to know electricity cost, amount of electricity, and heat removal.  This will help see how ROI will go.
12694  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie help. on: December 15, 2014, 07:38:30 PM
With using the core you are have a LOT of downloading the chain.   Does your wallet show out of sync? (Still downloading showing weeks and days going down).

If it is still downloading the chain it will not see it till much later.  It could take days depending to get entire chain synced.
12695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is that anyone wants to buy game currency by bitcoin ? on: December 15, 2014, 05:14:28 PM
With being so new you most likely will need to do escrow on some sales.   It would be possible in digital goods as said for you to sale.

Got it and trying to run it now! I'm just wondering how do I check the Mac address of the device as I'm trying to add it to a network...

It is in DHCP mode, log into your ADSL router and look at DHCP clients.

Got it and trying to run it now! I'm just wondering how do I check the Mac address of the device as I'm trying to add it to a network...
Plug it in then go to myminer.io it should show the device and IP there

Thanks guys, but I'm trying to connect this to a workspace network that requires me to add the MAC address of it to work, and I don't see it despite being being connected to the same network. (probably because the router rejects its connection). I tried connecting the LAN cable to my laptop directly, but I can't seem to find it either.... any ideas?

If you are able to connect to it through a different network it says to far right side once connected:
Hostname
    miner-xxxxxx
MAC address
    xxxxxxxx

Hardware Version
    SP20E Jackson
FW Version
    2.5.33
CGMiner Version
    cgminer4.7.0
CGMiner Status
    Running
MinerGate Status
    Running

*I put X on a few things to not show mine (Probley was not needed)

So if you can get to it on another network you could easily get the mac address and use it on the network you want after.

Pretty amazing we need to throw a party if we get 2 negative numbers in a row.  I thought we would see 1-2 jump up but I will be happy to be wrong.

Well a lot of hash power is going towards paycoin.   this may be some of the decline.  as long as it lasts for a while we should enjoy it.

Go paycoin!

How much does mining paycoin compare to BTC on amount mined lets say per T?

(I could not find a good calculator)

No one really price knows it is heavily backed by GAW-ZEN>  I look at them as a possible destruction to bitcoin or a bust-out item  and not much in between.  They have a better concept on allowing "Normal" non-tech users spend it.  They are supposed to have a lot of Wall street money.  If they implement the coin as a credit-debit card type hooked up with visa's logo they will be the coin of the future not bit coin…  WhoTF  really knows if they can do all they say they can do.

But I still have a few bucks in their corner with an eye to shift to them big time if they are the real deal.   Another reason I went to sp20's over the s-3+'s. EASY to just switch over to mining them instead of BTC.  a lot of people thought that 2015 will be the year of the DC's  I think it is going to be a war between BTC  and Paycoin.  I hope it is as I can bounce back and forth between them
looking to get 2 nice half loaves of bread so to speak.

@ suchmoon in the last 24 hours nicehash has paid 4 to 10 fold the rate for btc if you rent your rig.

So 7th would earn about 0.100 btc  in 24 hours  and I earned 0.400 btc  in 24 hours renting the sp20's.

This has happened with other coins on westhash  every other coin went bust  and turned out to be stupid to mine.

But paycoin promises more then any coin ever.--------------------       promises promises is the key.

Paycoin does promise a lot after looking at it.   Wow it has pushed mining up in what your revenue is.   Great time to be a miner.    So many say you cannot ROI as a miner guess more in it for us.
12698  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some newb questions... on: December 15, 2014, 04:59:49 AM
Couple questions...

If I convert all of my US Dollars savings into Bitcoin, what are the chances it will loose value?
It is more risky bet then most fiat currency.  You will have a large variance compared to USD.   Some times it can be good other times ... yes it can be bad.

What if my employer paid me in Bitcoin? Can I avoid the illegal income taxation by the IRS?

Illegal income taxation?  Not sure what you mean by that.     But if you were paid by employer you should have it on your taxes.   Not listing payment by employer is not good in eyes of IRS no matter what form of currency you get paid in.

Thanks again to the spondoolies team who have now also donated an SP20 for continued cgminer support!  Smiley

As power and noise are bigger issues for me than getting the maximum hashrate, can people suggest reasonable settings to run one of these stable with the fan only at 40% in summer weather?

They do have a heck of a good team!  I really love their support.

If running at 40 percent I think you will need to under clock during summer for sure.   Not a bad thing since it does under clock well.
