Please enough of the three letter agency talk, it is off-topic. A separate thread would be more suited if you want to discuss those. Oh wow, I didn't know about that. Interesting information...
You have to be around for a while to know.
OP if your questions have been answered please lock this thread.

All these people are clueless with their little analogies. It's like when people delude themselves into thinking Bitcoin "is just Myspace, we just have to wait and we'll get to buy cheap Facebook shares". I mean the level of stupidity surrounding Bitcoin is amazing. So many people hoping for a Bitcoin 2.0 because they can't accept Bitcoin already won, and instead of buying while it's still cheap, they are too greedy and just want to keep hoping for a new crypto that will replace it. I guess not everyone can win.
Nicely said. That is the deal when people come claiming that X coin has a chance of coming close/overtaking Bitcoin. People let themselves be led by greed. How is this different from Bitcoin?
It is very different. What new development has taken place in BTC in the last three years? It's taking years just to increase the blocksize a tiny little bit...
Not sure whether just uninformed or trying to troll. The block size limit has nothing to do with the vast amount of development that occurred. The latest development would be libsecp256k1 which replaced OpenSSL for ECDSA operations.

I do't see why not. There have even been some humanitarian attempts here on the forum, some less successful than others (but it is worth a shot, right?). I do not use bitcoin for anyting bad. I use it to buy computers and graphics cards to do some mining.
The point of this thread was not whether you are using it for good or not.

Does it have to be an app? Why can't you just use a website (there's at least 1 that I'm aware of)?

The simplest thing that you can do with a private key is write it down. Printing it might end up being unsafe under certain conditions (e.g. printers have memory as well).

Is this the 89th time bitcoin has been killed. I do not understand by saying bitcoin is killed because i have seen bitcoin is still up and running.
No. You have the wrong number, it has reached 100. human labour and energy are free,
Is this supposed to be internet-sarcasm? I agree with bitcoin is legend of all legend of all of the coin. I think those who said bitcoin is dead is making a black propaganda so that their coin wilm be notice to the investors. But bitcoin is a institution now and no altcoin can surpass it right now or ever. Because we are here stakers and users.
Being overly optimistic is equally as bad as being overly pessimistic.

Linden Dollars should not be pegged to the US Dollar, but rather to Bitcoin. The US Dollar will soon be worthless at the rate at which it is being printed. Bitcoin has a capped supply and will increase in value over time. It is also perfectly suited to enable micro payments within a virtual life scenario.
You're being too hyperbolic when it comes to the dollar. You will have a lot of problems if it crashes, we all will. Whether you believe into bitcoin or not, it being unused is always a possibility so don't cross that out. It's not like this has never happened before in the world of fintech .
How about you elaborate? Bitcoin has a wider audience than the second life gamers.
That is debatable. I wonder what the initial number of second life players was.

This is a good idea and you have my vote. I dislike the digital stuff that I have to go through when searching for good physical Bitcoin auctions.

its going to be interesting to see how the network reacts to segwit being released... i wonder how much effort it will take to get that 95% they want
I don't think it was specifically stated (yet?) that it would be at 95%. People only assume this as it was used in the past. Much of the support for Classic will just accept segwit size increase and continue lobbying for another one.
This is one of the problems with increasing the block size, people (due to lack of knowledge) are going to continue cheering for another increase pretty soon even if that one would effectively cause huge problems. Just because we can do it now (after segwit), it doesn't mean that we will be able to do it once again next year. I'm certain that one or multiple developers have talked about this.

Even though I wouldn't go as far as calling them nazis and communists, this is pretty insane. Basically what this does is damage only, it helps nobody nor does it help with their goal. Those that support such proposals have seriously become deluded. Bitcoin Classic can definitely dig it's grave now, nobody with half a brain will support it anymore.
Unfortunately, there are still some people who support it. I have no idea why.

Man, no one understands how cool and totally special our bitcoin is. Just ignore the h80rz, Lauda.
OTOH, hard to see much difference between buying bitcoins with real money, & buying Lindens. Other than Second Life community having been around a bit longer & not currently tearing itself to pieces, that is.
Lindens are useless, stop playing around else you might get burned. First of all there should be no question of Bitcoin's second life.
Have you even read anything in the thread? I don't think that you did. The only thing those two have got in common is the word 'virtual' and that's it ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) I think that this is a common misconception. What I would label as 'virtual' are in-game 'currencies' or tokens that have no use outside of their environment. Bitcoin on the other hand is a digital crypto-currency.

Use whatever client you support the most yourself, just like tokeweed said. My personal favorite implementation now is Bitcoin Unlimited, however I also support Bitcoin Classic, since Bitcoin Unlimited is also compatible with the two megabyte increase proposal by Classic. Much has changed since I wrote the OP, it has obvously become somewhat outdated. Check out my more recent posts here on bitcointalk and especially on bitco.in. I will also be writing another article soon relating to the blocksize debate and its more recent manifestations.
You've bumped a dead thread in order to promote BU? Seriously, stop advertising for your stuff everywhere.

The title like this appeared many times in the last 6 years. I remembered the bitcoin died many times before.
There is a good website that keeps track of these 'declarations' (or however one wants to call them. People that actually believe this sort of FUD clearly never step into the bitcoin dev irc chats.
I don't see the relation between believing in FUD and being in the bitcoin-dev chat-room. I get sad when I see such topics, please let it die and then talk, dont start from now ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) It won't die, so all they can do is talk.

And two years later, Bitcoin comes along. What is the difference really like?
If I understood the meaning behind this, indirectly the person has said that Bitcoin is no different than Second Life. Comparing Bitcoin to a virtual world does not make sense. Seems like this CEO missed out on Bitcoin as well.

I can imagine that mistakes may happen, especially when you're moderating such a huge number of posts each day.
Yes. I would say that on the bitcoin sub-reddit errors have a higher tendency to happen as due to the nature of reddit. As far as mistakes are concerned, I don't think that moderators make many of them and even if they did, those tend to be miss-clicks (usually get fixed by an admin). But in general, I haven't seen much genuine complains of censorship in the Meta section of the forum.
Usually they are either rambling, or "I'm right because I'm right" type of threads. And the rules of this forum perfectly reflect the 'level of openness', I think.
Indeed. I get it, but their madness still needs to be exposed. Not everyone can think for himself, and those who cant, might get sucked into /btc
Exactly.
