12761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: /btc is full of hypocrites or shills on: April 06, 2016, 09:13:01 AM

/Bitcoin still has the biggest Subscriber base and things continued like normal. So leave them to discuss what they want and let the people decide where they want to discuss in /Bitcoin. The division is not good for Bitcoin, but unfortunately things like this happens and we will just have to accept it and go on.
But they are spreading bullshit, and are sabotaging bitcoin.

We need to expose them so that newbies dont get sucked into their cult.
Basically the person said that we should ignore bad habits (e.g. ad hominem) and do nothing about it. This isn't the right mindset. We should try to encourage people to stop with such time-wasting actions. People should be having technical discussions and spreading positive news (or negative if there are any) as they used to.
12762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we stop the division in the Bitcoin community? on: April 06, 2016, 07:33:57 AM
You can't. It is up to the people who are on the "wrong side". Both sides (there probably are more) are definitely guilty of a lot of things (e.g. ad hominem), but at least on one side the situation has calmed down. Some 'people' (?) just keep focusing on negativity, targeting individuals, companies and such. They have to choose to stop behaving like this themselves. It is best to stay away from them and spread the word until they do.

The biggest competition for Bitcoin < Core and Classic > will come from Private Blockchain technology that are being developed as we speak. ^hmmmm^
What makes you say that?

Besidest that, I think you misunderstand "divide et imperia". It means let two different groups fight each other and then win as the third party.
In that case it would be: Let Core fight XT and then Classic was supposed to emerge as the third party. Seems like the plan failed.
12763  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: April 06, 2016, 05:33:18 AM
Oh, is that so?
Yes, once you achieve the rank of a full member you should see the option in the place where I've mentioned (in my previous post).

Well I must keep active here, I really want a avatar cause its amazing. I think I will take years to make a hero member. xD
Well, technically it is a maximum of 1 day = 1 activity point (although the update is every 14 days - maximum of 14 points), so you do the math.

while i'm in the thread though does anyone else dislike "Member" and "Full Member" as titles?
probably just me.
I don't see a reason for which one would dislike someone based on their titles, especially since those are just standard.

I'm not surprised anymore as things there are out of control. Either they want to take down person X, company Y or do something ridiculous as that.

What is their next step? Calling for core users to be put in a gulag? I would not be surprised.
They are totalitarians, with anti-human, anti-liberty ideas, and certainly anti-free market.
The comment section has a lot of stuff that newcommers definitely need to avoid. Basically, this has become a group of people who are fixated with the idea that "Core/Blockstream" needs to go (seemingly, they are one and the same for the majority of them).
12766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.12.0 is now available on: April 05, 2016, 10:18:33 PM
Taking forever to Sync
Should be much faster than any previous version. I'll assume either: 1) Default settings with average hardware; 2) Old hardware; 3) Other problems. Which is it?

if it is so good why has it taken me  all day Saturday and half the night to download what is essentially still not working
i am running the fastest NBN and have a huge download capacity running a quadcore computer with windows 7 and i am still waiting for it to synch WTF
That's a problem on your end. It took my full node 17 hours to download and sync from scratch with default settings. I've recently done this test. We can't really help you without any information.

Both have their advantages and their problems. Core needs constant backups, electrum only a single one (the seed, write. it. down!).
I concur. Many do not realize this and end up losing their coins.
12767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Separate Computer for Bitcoin/Financial Information vs Personal? on: April 05, 2016, 10:12:58 PM
The simplest solution is to get rid of Windows and use GNU/Linux instead.
If you by 'simplest' mean the 'most complex' one, then yes. Roll Eyes

The chances are high getting a virus on porn site streaming?
Not really.

Or you mean downloading?  By downloading, i meant downloading from sites with links from other posters who may or may not be reputable
Downloading, reputable or not, can easily end up being a problem for you. Additionally, visiting unknown porn sites could also be hazardous.

How about telling me your current OS, AV software and HDD space (free on laptop)? What I'd recommend is, create a big VM (as space will be needed) and do all those porn related things within it. You should be fine.

12768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will I stay or Will I leave - Poll on: April 05, 2016, 09:38:41 PM
I do not care which client system we use, as long as it further Bitcoin as a technology and provides a net benefit in the long run. If we are not able to maintain the capacity of being able to run the blockchain without having our blocks overfilled, we being to lose the integrity of the network, which drives people away. This is something that we are not able to afford.
Well then you effectively should care which client we use. In the case of a unlikely "victory" of one client over another (or forks?; it isn't easy to put proper wording on this), you might end up with what you've just described.

I will definitely stay and keep supporting Bitcoin. As long as it helps me save my money and make some money with it I will stay on Bitcoin. And I still have some coins to sell so I will not leave until I at least sell those coins against a profit.
Yeah and if we leave now then that would be the worst decision of our life and we will surely regret in future and we need to have some patience so that we can sell at higher profits in future.
Tl;dr: You are both here solely because of potential profit.  Roll Eyes

the only problem I found is that I CAN'T set an avatar.. any good soul to explain me how do I do it? lol
1) Wrong section; 2) You need to be a full member in order to do so.

12771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can disappear? on: April 05, 2016, 08:52:45 PM
Bitcoin can disappear?
Things don't just suddenly disappear, we live in the real world.

And if bitcoin is a scam, what will happen in world?
It is not a scam.

People will panic?
Only the average Joe panics over nothing.

How could bitcoin disappear? I don't think that could happen. It can reduce in value to 0.01 cent but that doesn't mean it will vanish and not be available to be used as a currency.
Exactly. Bitcoin can't just disappear for no apparent reason.

My activity is not moving anymore. Is it true? I should wait 2 weeks?
The activity changes for everyone every ~14 days. The last increase happened on March 29th, and the next one should be 12th of April. Keep in mind that you have to actually be active in the period (post).

And also how to add avatar in profile, Im a Jr. Member. Thank you!
Click on 'Profile' -> click on 'Forum Profile Information' (it's on the left). It should be the first option after you become a full member (IIRC).

12774  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bet: Bitcoin to top $900 before Sep 2016 on: April 05, 2016, 01:33:27 PM
We can make 10 btc bonus and make bet for 1:1 btc for 600$ usd/btc before Sep 2016
-snip-
You are just complicating things now. By using a 2 out of 2 address in gambling you are asking for trouble, some people are bad losers. Just use a 2 out of 3 address and you will be fine.

You never receive more than 0.1 btc.
You release this money in 2026 if you found me :-)
This doesn't make sense.

I'll make you an offer you can not refuse: pay me 2 bitcoin for my signature code! You can see the flaw in your system.
Exactly!
12775  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bet: Bitcoin to top $900 before Sep 2016 on: April 05, 2016, 01:13:15 PM
The losing party want to receive 0.1 btc for the lost side.
You don't understand how 2 of 2 multisig works obviously nor did you understand my post. It is not well suited for gambling. Once someone loses, they can refuse to release their money.
12776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is killing Bitcoin, if anything is? on: April 05, 2016, 01:11:29 PM
We are the one who killed Bitcoin, if we always doubting Bitcoin then it will shut itself down.
Bitcoin can't shut itself down, nor can your doubt have a direct effect on whether it is 'up' or 'down'.
12777  Other / Meta / Re: Why all the "uᴉoɔʇᴉq" words are up-side-down? on: April 05, 2016, 01:10:35 PM
What do you mean in once in a lifetime experience Huh
You know that this prank can be used on next year's april fools Roll Eyes
Because it is most likely that it won't be used again. It wouldn't really make sense to re-use the same joke multiple times.

Only when I checked other threads and their reply, did I realise something is wrong. It also shows bitcoin as moondollar at some places
At least you did not start a thread before checking if there are some that contain information, right? There was a sudden flood of these threads, although I did like the chaos.

I just saw this today, 'uᴉoɔʇᴉq' is still written up side down in some of the Subject lines above the messages. Part of this joke will stick around forever.
It does seem like some of it didn't revert properly. Nothing surprising.

12778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bet: Bitcoin to top $900 before Sep 2016 on: April 05, 2016, 12:55:25 PM
BitBet not works anymore so I want bet with anyone with 2of2 multisig transaction
Two out of two isn't the right way to go. What happens when the losing party refuses to let go of their funds? You will end up in a long (possibly 'permanent') stalemate. Just use what was suggested in the link that you've provided:
Quote
Instead the parties could do a 2-of-3 which would allow a mediator to settle a dispute, that works exactly the same but instead of two public keys three would be provided.

Ok, I moved to 1:4 ratio
Odds are bad for the 'no' side. I don't see why someone would want to risk 4 BTC for a potential win of 1 BTC.
12779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is killing Bitcoin, if anything is? on: April 05, 2016, 12:23:06 PM
Just like you can't blame a bad neighborhood if you get mugged/raped. The neighborhood is just streets/[abandoned] buildings/poorly-lit alleys. And no jackbooted cops around.
Neighborhoods don't rape people, *people* [who hang in the hood] rape people.
This.
Otherwise it would just be an example of neighborhood discrimination. Judging poor neighborhoods by the dirty people who live there? How dare you!

If we have proper insured business dealing with bitcoin, then we will not get scammed. But that is long way away.
Well, technically there is always a small chance of a possible scam. However, experienced users should usually not have a problem with this (only in rare cases; e.g. someone very trustworthy ends up scamming). I wouldn't say that scams are a big problem for Bitcoin.
12780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is killing Bitcoin, if anything is? on: April 05, 2016, 11:12:21 AM
An hour later I read an article about R3 partnering with Microsoft so that they can work with Ethereum and Ripple.
Ethereum is a platform. Ripple is horrible.

but maybe altcoins have a chance who knows with the way it's going.
Only for people who hope to get rich quickly because they've missed the initial 'Bitcoin train'. It is highly unlikely that one is going to come close to Bitcoin in terms of adoption in the foreseeable future.

I think not having a central control for bitcoin causes some problems.
This has to be some sort of bad joke as this is wrong on many levels.

Dude! Not having a central control for bitcoin is the absolute base of bitcoin! It's like you were complaining it's a decentralized digital currency ><
FTFY and I concur.

Scammers!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't blame Bitcoin if you get scammed.
