12761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it? on: October 22, 2020, 01:37:17 PM
As of now, no.
When they allow it to be moved it out to your own wallet. Mabye.
Depends on what / how they allow certain things.
3rd quarter Discover had the 5% cashback on PayPal purchases. If they allow that and their rates are fair, then yes.
Same thing with PayPal credit, can I get the 6 months / 12 months interest free financing when buying BTC? Same as above, if the rates are good then yes I will.

-Dave

I have an account with retailmenot. I get rebates which I cash to my PayPal account.

I used $20 of my latest $51.32 rebate.

I know on BTC we are 'cutting' edge so to speak.

But PayPal is an easy peasy way to adoption for more then 300 million people.

To see I am the only person on Bitcointalk  buying a piece via PayPal shows me that BTC adaption for the mainstream is far far far away.

I think I will keep the thread open for a while and post when I turn a retailmenot cash rebate to more BTC.

I am due for a rebate soon. Grin

The whole "not your keys not your Bitcoin" has always been a bit too absolutist for me. It implies that you will lose your Bitcoin every time if you don't have full control of your keys at all times.

If you want to use a metaphorical valet temporarily you aren't failing some Bitcoin purity test.

You give your keys to the valet for convenience in hopes that he will bring your car back. You run a tiny risk of not getting it back, but some people like to valet their car.

That's fine as long as it's only a portion of your bag. If you have the keys to the majority of your coins, and some amount on exchanges/web wallets for reasons, fine. The saying "not your keys not your coins" is for the millions of people that ONLY have BTC on such or such website as IOUs.

Here are my vast PayPal BTC hodlings.
Going to make a thread on it.

new thread

yesterday's rallies were good. my gpus are close to 50 a day or 1500 a month.

I held all gpu mining nicehash to btc since July.

I cashed in 1000 usd yesterday
Still holding most of mining coins.

If we stay at 50 a day profit for me. The new gear will pay off by Jan or Feb.

If I hodl coins and btc moves past 16k I will pay gear off faster.
12765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it? on: October 22, 2020, 12:00:30 PM
I don't think Paypal will keep it this way for long, though.

What makes you believe so? It seems even payments will be settled in fiat:

Cryptocurrency payments on PayPal will be settled using fiat currencies, such as the U.S. dollar, meaning merchants will not receive payments in virtual coins, the company said.

If they're actually planning to go this route, there won't be any movements in the blockchain; they give you an IOU you can play with, and since it doesn't seem like they even give you a BTC address, it might be designed to stay that way. Neither you nor the merchant will ever touch any actual BTC.

I mean, I guess it's kind of smart since it appeals to people who only want to hold BTC for its price movements, letting them speculate and spend with negligible fees. If I were a casual, I would absolutely gobble this up.

I feel a bit conflicted because on one hand, it has essentially nothing to do with Bitcoin, and could even harm real adoption in the long run. On the other hand, it's huge for establishing Bitcoin as a legitimate asset class.

Since 48.5% voted no in the poll I would guess there is a lot of disagreement on this.

So far 1 guy purchased and it was only 20 usd worth. (that would be me)

Only 1 guy of 29 people.  This what BTC is up against 1 of 29 tried it out so far.

There is some good in that.  1/29 x 346 million = 11.931 million.

So maybe there are now 20 x 11.931 = 238.621 million worth of btc on PayPal books.

Would be more encouraging if it were  6 of 29 votes.

if granny puts $$ in paypal, paypal would not benefit as much since there is almost no interest in $$.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full

Paypal "invests those funds in liquid investments". So yes, they do earn interest on $$.

1) take investors'  money

2) invest in (shitcoin of choice)

3) proffit!

They invented a new game  Grin Tongue

They created more demand for btc. no more complex then that.

which is why i went and purchased $20 worth of btc on paypal

vs 20 worth on coinbase or bittrex.

Any place making new btc demand works for me.

12767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it? on: October 22, 2020, 01:51:56 AM
You are not buying BTC on PayPal, you are buying a virtual BTC that you can only hodl or sell on their platform. The answer is easily no, I would rather use a proper exchange, especially since I have access to non-KYC exchanges, and withdraw coins to my wallet asap and be safe. Maybe this opportunity from PayPal will be more interesting for complete beginners or people who haven't tried crypto yet.

yeah I certainly don’t plan on large sums purchased on paypal in my case.

But if BTC is to go mainstream players with a paypal account can help it out.

To hodl 20-100 usd is fine for a paypal account. The way it is structured at the moment it is designed for hodl.

So I am going to do that with 20-100 usd purchased. over the next few months.

Btw I rather have paypal hold my kyc info since it has had it for 17 years.
12768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it? on: October 22, 2020, 01:28:52 AM

Vote

give reasons for not buying .

let us know if you can or must wait.

   I am in NJ, USA

I did it very quickly. Note it is an old well established PayPal account that I used.

Yes I know your keys your funds.
I do not plan to keep a lot of BTC in this account.
12769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal is doing it on: October 22, 2020, 01:21:19 AM
Paypal officially announced that they are going to let their users to buy, sell and shop cryptocurrencies on their platform starting in 2021adding services such as this will become a domino effect that might trigger banks to do the same. I can feel it already, next year will be another blast for crypto!

source : https://cointelegraph.com/news/paypal-to-offer-crypto-payments-starting-in-2021

Confirmed!

I already purchased btc today on paypal.

This whole zero risk kinda thinking is what caused large swaths of the global population to hide under their beds like cowards for a minor flu bug. "not under your bed, not fully safe from flu/snake bites"  Roll Eyes

Life is full of risks and its up to the risk taker to decide what risks are worth it for them. No sense in shaming granny for failing some Bitcoiner purity test bc she trust her keys to paypal or an exchange.

My neg opinion is not about "purity", but about functionality.
If they change functionality to "almost there", then I would be largely OK with it (for grannies, lol).
Right now, you can withdraw $$ from paypal to your bank account. People generally don't keep cash at paypal.
You can only buy bitcoin and have it at paypal, which would simply allow paypal to earn large % on it, which they can't with $$.
Honestly, without ANY transactional possibility at paypal, it is a dud, but i think that transactional possibility would be there is step 2.

It is prefect for 20 a month hodl plans.

Go back to 2010 put away 20usd a month in btc let me know what you have now.

Where the fcuk are all the naysayers and bears?

Hardly a troll to be seen.  Did the paymaster close up shop?

Proudhon has been silenced for now.

Proudhon doesn't count.  OG bitcoiners are entitled to their fun.

Okay lets give him that.

maybe he will post the 13250 high today is that of a very dead  lively cat bounce.

I have $20

No you dont! They have your Bitcoin Smiley   It is just a tool for daytraders and speculators.

dude the wheels and gears of progress need grease too 20 dollars worth of grease at them.

you are tossing free sand into the wheels and gears.  cost you zip nada nothing. but for everyone that reads your post and agrees it simply helps to bring the wheels and gears to a stop.

Maybe you convince 10 people and they do the same and before you know it coin dump and crash out.

My only hope is most see you as the wrong way not the right way and they choose to toss 20 usd worth of grease into the wheels/gears.

not free sand to slow thing down.
12777  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 21, 2020, 07:37:02 PM
sorry can't get excited about the Paypal corprotist shit sandwich getting served up for the masses.
you can't deposit your own btc, you can't withdraw your own btc, when you 'spend' btc from paypal the merchant doesn't receive btc ....
I mean wtf is it? It doesn't sound like btc ... it's just some joke token they are using in their internal spreadsheet for peeps who think they are in the btc market but are actually getting played by paypal.

the deception and surreptitious datarape by silicon valley continues, can't cheer this one on.

another tossing sand in the wheels and gears of progress.   grease them brother lube them up 20 usd worth of grease please.
12778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 21, 2020, 07:35:53 PM
^ yeah, no

I want dem dang keys PayPal or you own my stash...
Amazing paypal is control of the little guys $btc forever
Typical bs

Nope you completely miss the point.

PayPal allows 350 million people to do this>

just for 20 usd.

If every account on bitcointalk did this it would make a pump.

So far I see 1 person who did this me and I see many like you that have zero understanding of greasing the wheels of progress.

your post is throwing sand in the wheel and gears and every post like it is doing the same.

Once again toss 20 dollars worth of grease and not a hand full of sand.
12779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 800kW of power and a greenhouse on: October 21, 2020, 07:17:06 PM
Why do you think btc only?? dont you think ltc or other established altcoin maybe more profitable in the long run?

BTC will be more stable, both in price and in mining hardware. Profitability can change very quickly on altcoins.

If he is at 2 cents he should get t17's and l3+ a mix of both

maybe 25 t17's and 100 l3+

that is about  25 x 2.2 = 55-60kwatts

and 100 x .8 =  80 kwatts  he can work from there.

he can get t17's pretty cheap maybe 400 each.
