How many of those threads are needed?
1282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: August 05, 2014, 03:22:57 PM
Still... 15600 BTC with so many days to go is ridiculous. How exactly are the investors planning on profiting from this?
If I want my money tied up in Cryptos for half a year I'd want a big reward potential
1283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MaskCoin and MaskNetwork on: August 05, 2014, 03:18:37 PM
Are you kidding me? The number of pre-sale coins is 50,0000 and dev owns 5 million?HuhHuhHuhHuh
5 million?HuhHuhHuhHuh??
Really?Huh? 5 million?Huh??
So you guys own 90% of the total coins?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?//
WTF!?
Shut up and take my money!!!!!!!

There are 100 mil total coins. The developers own the initial stake of 5 million available coins. It's a POS coin and without an initial stake the network can not start. The 5 mil coins we own are available for sale on maskexchange.com

So you guys can sell 5 mil dollars!!! Why should we buy your coins?!

Yeah price and amount seem unreasonable high.

It's more greedy than regular IPO!!!!! All belongs to devs!!!

Yeah, I don't mind that devs get something for their time involved, also if they have a good plan on how to use IPO funds --> sure why not.

But 5 m $ + is just ludacris
1284  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many Bitcoins needed to retire in 5-6 years? on: August 05, 2014, 03:16:36 PM
What if gene therapy & nanotechnology allows you to live for hundreds of years or infinite? how much btc then? Wink

This is called perpetuity and a common concept in finance. Basically depending on the interest rate perpetuity isn't much higher than paying an amount for 30-50 years.

e.g.: If you want to pay 1000€ forever @ 5% market interest rate ---> 1000/0.05 = 20000€

So you see, you don't need much capital to pay out a rate for ever!

I'll better trade it at my own maybe i can earn more than sending it here

Yea, that can be a good idea.

Try to get into trading and build up your own strategy,
but some guys maybe don't have the time and skills to do so.

But you do apparently.

Just strange that a person that can do 10% a week need funds!

Starting with 5000 $ after 1 year you would have 710000 USD

No thats not strange.
I just don't can afford to lose 5000$ and as I mentioned before there is always the risk of loosing.

Therefore I only trade with low funds and get small winnings.

What you are saying is just not consistent. You are so convinced of your abilities, but don't even want to use much of your own money... How can you offer your abilities to the public then?

Quote
transactions with recipient account that does not have a public key will be required to have such
an attachment in order to announce and set the public key of the reciepient.

The getAccountId request can be used to get the public key for a secret phrase
(even when not yet announced to the blockchain).

This is fucking sweet!

So this means you can calculate the Nxt account ID for any passphrase, then transfer your Nxt there with an attachment that has the same effect as logging in and doing one transaction?

In short, this cold storage for Nxt? ...

Finally, this release is soo big. I think there never was a release with so many features introduced.

My prediction: Price will go down 20%. News are just too good. (wink)
1288  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage, pros and cons, experience and profitability on: August 05, 2014, 02:58:19 PM
Hey guys, we invite you to test arbitrage on our trading platform. As far as we one of the few services that let people purchase bitcoins & litecoins with a credit card, we have rather more buyers than sellers. Thats why our price is usually higher than on the major exchanges Wink
After you sell cryptocurrency, you can withdraw money to Okpay.
https://indacoin.com/trade

Yeah, high fees of CCs don't go well with the concept of arbitrage. Just saying.
1289  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: August 05, 2014, 02:30:38 PM
Forget the $1m & $100,000 predictions, what's everyone's opinion on when bitcoin will hit $10,000?

when you will be able to buy coffee via Bitcoin. It is mass-adoption question

I know multiple places where you can do that...
1290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Changing the 21 million bitcoin limit on: August 05, 2014, 02:30:06 PM
There is never a need to change the total. 21 million is an arbitrary number and the system would work if there were 16 Billion or only 33 bitcoins. If you understand bitcoin then you will understand why is is utter foolishness to change this number. It would gain nothing and severely hurt the price of bitcoin. I, for example, would divest at least 70% of my position.

I was suggesting that the miners would earn a fixed amount of bitcoins for every block. This means that there would be no upper limit. More and more bitcoins would be created over time without any upper limit. It would be inflationary but I think the value could remain fairly stable. It would be a deterministic and slow inflation. And the inflation would actually slow down year by year! Because percentage-wise there would be less added each year.

It's just a thought experiment. Too risky to try for real probably because the bitcoin value could collapse if doing a radical change like that.

But what would be the advantage of that?

Distribution will happen as the price rises anyway, no need to have unlimited inflation.
1291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Changing the 21 million bitcoin limit on: August 05, 2014, 02:26:17 PM
Reading OPs post history it seems that he is experience the famous "Fear of Missing out" FOMO!
1292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Special offer for Dogecoin users. on: August 05, 2014, 01:42:16 PM
I am also interested to sell my Doge for next is this still available or no

Actually, OP didn't even ask me for the 0.00000001 doge, and still sent me the Nxts.

It's weird, I've received the e-mail saying that I've received 10 NXTs in my wallet (at https://wallet.mynxt.info), but when I login it still says I have 0. Is that a common problem?

That should not happen. You can check your balance here: http://www.nxtreporting.com

It looks fine in the block explorer, but the online wallet still reports it as 0.

That is indeed strange. You are sure there isn't some kind of filter applied? (have never used this specific site)

If you don't find a solution, just contact the site support, they should fix it easily for you!

It finally appeared for some reasons a few days later Smiley

Ok, then it was server troubles for sure. Maybe their NODE rescanned the blockchain and got stuck. Happens sometimes to servers that have too little ram or a general error.
1293  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best energy drink on: August 05, 2014, 01:41:16 PM
Red bull, but don't drink too much its too sweet!!

What do you guys think of those "zero" and "sugar-free" energy drinks?

Sadly, they don't deliver the same taste and effect! Sad
1294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Changing the 21 million bitcoin limit on: August 05, 2014, 01:39:08 PM
The limit was set so that the creation of new Bitcoin is constant and predictable, unlike modern fiat currencies. And also decentralization, of course, but the point is to create a decentralized currency where no central authority can control the amount produced.

But the creation of bitcoins would still be predictable! It's just that the amount of bitcoins that miners earn would remain constant instead of being reduced over time. It could become too inflationary I don't know. Would be interesting to test the idea on a separate block chain so to not totally crash the actual bitcoin value.

Dogecoin did that. Look at the price Wink

Dogecoin has no upper limit but it has a fixed rate of 5.2 billion coins every year in the future. I was thinking that the rate would be determined only by the mining, say 25 bitcoins per block as was the initial bitcoin rate.

Huh Keeping the same blockreward and having a fixed rate are the exact same thing.

Correct me if I am wrong.
1295  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Limit. on: August 05, 2014, 01:38:33 PM
Bank of America thinks the max price is $1,300 (http://www.forbes.com/sites/samanthasharf/2013/12/05/bitcoin-gets-valued-bank-of-america-puts-a-price-on-the-virtual-tender/) while Goldman Sachs thinks the max price is (IIRC $5k, but it may be higher, I was not able to find a link to this).

I think those predictions are at least as pointless as the ones we are making in the speculation forum Smiley

Also those predictions where not LONGterm or toplimit EVER. They were shortterm price goals. Shortterm being 1-2 years timeframe.

Why would anyone want to destroy the integrity of the very system?

You mean the integrity of the value of bitcoin? The Bitcoin system would remain the same. It would only be the amount of bitcoins that miners earn that would change. The value of bitcoin would be affected a lot, but not the Bitcoin technology.

In practice it could be too risky to try to change the Bitcoin specification like that. Because the bitcoin value may totally pancake. Cheesy Anyway, I thought it was an interesting thought experiment.

The problem is with your line of thought that you value the tech alone to high.

Think about that: a 1:1 clone of Bitcoin with only the total coin parameter changed would literally be worthless. So why does Bitcoin have value. Because of the network effect. Now when you change such a important parameter that itself attracted so many people, you will not only destroy most of the network effect but also the benefit of the technology.

( Better example, the technology of facebook might be worth something, but without people using a clone, the technology itself is worthless!)

Assume average North American, requiring $30,000 per year of today's purchasing power, no other debt.
This is by no means average. $30k is well under the average income that most people in the US have.
The median per capita income in the US ist actually $28k. (source: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html). That includes children, though. On the other hand you can substract opportunity costs of having a job, like commuting and business clothing etc. So $30k should be quite fine.

Older people need more health care, is that included in those calculations?

No idea (not from the US). Usually income in a census is gross income, though.

Was just wondering, because usually the older people have higher average incomes but also higher costs, especially health related.

We will release this week the proof of concept client, the official exchange, the complete roadmap and other details regarding the project.

Nice, looking forward to that. Do you have an ETA for the IPO?
