Dash "not doing anything"

Cheesy It's probably the busiest year in Dash's entire history.

I'm never convinced about the wisdom of using a piece of hardware who's sole purpose is to guard millions of pounds worth of money. These things seem like an exercise in building the biggest hacking target known to man. Even if the thing itself is secure, how do actually know you've got an authentic one ?

I prefer just to create an encrypted drive with the host OS and bung the wallet in there.

Not really sure how it would be targeted by hackers.

 • postman switches the good one for a 'dodgy' one that has a beautiful black case, just like the real 'Trezor' in every respect except the internal electronics are totally designed to capture everything that's going on on your desktop and transmit it to the malevolent recipient

 • corruption of the manufacturer's supply chain. Hacked component included without manufacturer even knowing

 • some rogue programmer employee somewhere in the supply chain who's responsible for programming one of the EPROMs decides to have "some fun"

 • the manufacturer themselves goes rogue and decides to stop protecting data and start stealing it

 • a dodgy porter at one of Amazon's warehouses switches a box of real Trezors for a box of fake ones with a hack that gets activated in 6 month's time once users have got "comfortable" with their security

In summary, my general philosophy is that the more "secure" you feel with any trusted piece of technology, the more at risk you are in reality Wink

With a minimal amount of research it looked like the choice was between the Trezor or the Ledger Nano S.

Decred just revealed its Politeia infrastructure for  on-chain governance.

Bootiful. A time stamped audit trail. Why didn't the Athenians think of that ?

Nice invention. (Almost as good as forcing your devs to write all the codebases that will never make it into production on top of the one that does ! Wink )

There was a friendly whale OTOH, where is he? I think he exited dash, he is not active here anymore.

He exited the toxic exchanges he was involved in, that's all. He's around ok.

The only reason I'm still here is because I'm already 'fully toxified' and someone has to keep the jelly rolls company Wink A few others are also in that bracket, for example quizzie. Most others slopped off to Slack which has grown exponentially in membership due to good management.

Damn Icy do you just sit around the basement thinking about dash all day long or what? You need some pussy home boy.

Dedication to duty as tyre-kicker in residence.

High standards of commitment are demanded of all Dash project staff Wink

Dash has a market cap artificially inflated by a low circulating supply

What iCEBREAKER is trying to explain that Dash "has a lot of hodlers". (As do all effective stores of value) Wink

hey guys. When Bitcoin's Lightning Network is activated, transaction speed will go up and costs will go down.
And When Tumblebit will be activated Bitcoin transactions can be fully anonymous.

Can anyone explain why I need Dash then? Thanks.

Bitcoin's blockchain capacity will not be augmented by the Lightning network. You will simply have a new off-chain network in which to transact. In a strategic sense it's therefore no different from a Bitcoin backed debit card network, where all the trades occur off-chain except for occasional 'deposits' and 'withdrawals'.

What implication does that have for the core chain ? It's going to ADD to the traffic, not deplete it. Furthermore, you no longer have a fungible, unitary monetary token - it's been split into a 'credit' layer managed by a counterparty and a 'host layer' that's decentralised.

Why you need Dash is because it uses a cash monetary archetype rather than a flawed 'layered technology stack' archetype as its guiding design principle. In other words, in the diagram below, it prioritises the red zone so that ALL layer-2 client networks are highly supported, not just one.

It will therefore continue to be better store of value than bitcoin.

What does it mean to "reach the all time count for Masternodes" ?

It means that one of Dash's original design priorities is being met, which was to reconcile technology objectives (incentivising the growth of the network infrastructure) with monetary objectives (making Dash a better store of value than bitcoin).

We have entered the 5k sphere of gravity.

Market now believes we are about to break it.
1295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: September 28, 2017, 07:08:33 PM
I'm not really on board the whole Peg-part of the project either. I don't see the reason why you would want to force the coin to be lower or higher than a certain value. One of the big things with decentralization is that real economics can have its way. If people really want the coin, they would buy it and the price would go up, if people don't want it, it should fall.

The pegging is about supporting a stable goods price, not so much a stable coin price. The coin exchange rate with other cryptos or national fiat currencies can still move long term with the market because it's a rolling peg which means the peg can move at discrete intervals.

Between those intervals you have a stable monetary platform on which to trade goods (like, say kids prams, motor cars or the new Honda Jet).

This mitigates or eliminates the trader's exposure to losses on their goods trade from currency fluctuations. Meanwhile, the fact that the peg can roll also makes the currency investable and tradeable in its own right.

Best of both worlds: Decoupling the priorities of goods trading with those of a freely traded monetary instrument so that the blockchain has an independent interface on each market.

Looks like it. (P.S. Before everyone goes jumping into their bunkers, Trump didn't "declare war". It's just sabre rattling from the N. Korean's saying that he did.)
