shit i already ordered it

edit

thankfully i was able to cancel before they billed my card (at least it appears so :/ ) looks like ill be going with sticking with the raid max series.

rm1k for this c1 and rm1200 for 3 s3's

or will the rm 850 be enough for the c1? with only having 50 more watts?

850 is cutting it to close with cooling gear.  I would go with the rm 1000 instead of the rm 850.

It is very difficult to tell exactly where the pump is leaking, but from the image below it looks like it is between two "plates" that make up the body of the pump.

You could try plastering the leak site with concrete putty / modelling putty / silicon / specialist watercooling putty to prevent it leaking until you can get a replacement in. That's what I used to do with plastic radiators.

Syscooling offered to send a replacement if I sent them a pic of the leaking pump via PM...which I did this morning, but haven't heard back from them as of this writing.

I'm not going to try to "patch" syscooling's faulty pump.  When I first noticed the leak/failed pump, the miner was clearly overheating.  Fortunately, I believe it was only without cooling for less than an hour.  I really don't want to have the pump fail again while I am asleep or at work.  I realize the miner has an over temp shutdown feature, but I have no desire to confirm that it works properly.  I ordered a different pump and will use syscooling's replacement pump as a backup when / if get it.

Did they send your's ems to?

I started talking with them on Nov 7th.   I have not received either RMA pump or harness.  zero out of 2 have come.  And zero compensation.

I had no choice but to get another brand pump with over 1/2 month and they still have not managed to get rma's to me.   Keep in mind this is the company that still has not admitted V1 harness can go very bad, and who know's how many of these pumps they ran dry.

I think it depends on what your doing.   Some will invest with little to no ROI math.   Or invest in cloud companies that are unproven.  Truly a throw of the dice.

Others put more time in it.  It is more of a investment.  Yes a risky investment, it's no bond or safe yield.  It would be considered a risky investment.  But if you have cheap electricity you might just make a gain and have a good time if you enjoy mining.  You have to enjoy it if you don't you should buy direct.
12904  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining Investment - need expert opinion, would pay for consultation on: November 24, 2014, 01:19:12 AM
....

example calculation with the assumption = BTC stays constant at 250GBP/BTC:
30k GBP = 3k MHs mine 13.05 BTC in 3 weeks = 1087.54 GBP
after 50% fee = 543.77 per week profit
after 3 years = 84828.12 GBP

Is this realistic?

After looking at it no it is not realistic to assume you will make the same profit every week for 3 years.  You are not thinking about difficulty change.  Also in 3 years most miner's are obsolete.  I can't imagine a miner that will run profitable to 3 years.

Their website takes Paypal -- so if you use a real credit card (not a debit card) -- you are easily covered.  If it doesn't come in by the time they promise - then you get a refund.

Normally I wouldn't buy a pre-order -- but the seller seems quite legit in my correspondence with him and its not like I'm paying with Bitcoin or wiring money.   Smiley

You are covered to a point.   This is why I asked about proof not rendering.  I would LOVE to see some prototypes.

If you let it go on to long credit card and paypal can loose protection.   Look up terrahash sales.

Again I'm hoping they will show some videos or pics with December release date.

How long are you covered with a credit card?  From what I read - it is 60 days from when it shows on your billing statement?

Of course - never buy using a debit card.  You will not be protected!!

Paypal I believe is 45 days.  Credit cards are not the same.  Some are better then others, call their support line and check.

I would say pick a date within protected time and if it has not shipped before then call and start the process.   For example January 1st if not shipped as promised in December go ahead and get money back.
12906  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Start mining bitcoins- What initial investment is needed to make a profit on: November 24, 2014, 12:11:49 AM
Dear Bitcoin Forum users,

I have a question for all of you, I have little experience but would like to get into bitcoin mining.

So, my question: How much initial investment would be needed to start mining bitcoins and make a reasonably good profit (considering hardware cost, power cost etc.).

Much appreciated  Wink
Regards, Maarten

Hi, im having small contrats with couldmining companies ... so can give  you some real examples.

Cloudhashers ( 1Ghs cost 0.0014 BTC)
25 Ghs cotract gives me 0.00031 BTC daily
130 Ghs = 0.0016 BTC daily

PBmining ( 1Ghs cost 0.0014 BTC)
20 Ghs cotract gives me 0.00162 BTC weekly

Hashie  ( 1Ghs cost 0.0012 BTC)
60 Ghs gives me 0.00042 BTC daily

calculate your own

Personally I like hardware myself.  You should also decide fi you want hardware or if you trust some of the cloud mining sites as shown above.

If it looks to good to be true... stay away from it is good idea overall.
12908  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question about mining. on: November 24, 2014, 12:08:03 AM
So I tried mining a while back using bitminter, I didn't earn any btc at all because I was CPU mining. So now I'm looking at buying the ANTMINER S4 -B2 .

So if I buy that, is it as simple as plug it in and use bitminter to mine? Or is it kind of a huge pain in the ass if you are new to mining.

Easy to use.  Go to IP address and sett pool settings and it will run after save.
12909  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Miner as a job on: November 23, 2014, 06:22:01 PM
home mining is tough right now.  depending on your region and how much they charge for power.  you may be better off buying the coin instead.

I believe that is true, pretty much home mining is not really a job but at the moment with the average electricity rate that must people have at home.

I say as a lot people have mentioned on the forums this is more of a hobby.

I had to just sell off my miners be off since the price dropped to $400. It just does produce enough to cover expenses.

I say its a job if you manage a large data center with all electricity running on solar and never pay electricity ever again.

I hope mining will lead to faster pace development in the solar energy.

Solar is just too high priced for the wattage needed with mining.

I personally am lucky with low priced electricity and it's winter so free to super cheap cooling.

I have used winter to expand soon I will be up to 11k watts (approx 15T worth of gear).  Winter is making it possible for me personally.
12910  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New to mining? on: November 23, 2014, 06:13:59 PM
Sadly it is far past the day's where GPU's can mine bitcoin.  You can look at Scrypt miing but for most at this point it cost's more to mine with a GPU thin it makes.

If anything big seems like heat would be big problem.  Cant just make a exhaust easy.
12912  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining Investment - need expert opinion, would pay for consultation on: November 23, 2014, 04:25:30 PM
- 10k GBP buys 1k MHs for 3 years.

Are you looking at cloud or hardware?  The 3 year part sounded like cloud possibly to me.
12913  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHAT IS THE BEST USB KEY? on: November 23, 2014, 08:11:13 AM
Any suggestions? Like really badass, terminator-style USB keys? (Pictures?)

And this: do you copy a wallet with your backup keys?

I'm not really sure what you are getting at here.  You don't need a "badass, terminator-style" USB key to store your bitcoin (private keys).  Any run of the mill USB key will work.  If you want extra safety, you can encrypt the USB drive.  Just put the usb key somewhere it won't be easily found.

I think it's pretty clear that I'm looking for a USB key a T-1000 would take one look at and say it was badass. Why is that difficult to understand?

j/k

No but seriously...

Fair enough.  Check out ironkey.  http://www.ironkey.com/en-US/encrypted-storage-drives/250-basic.html

I never could bring myself (100 dollars for 2 gig approx - lowest priced model) to buy one but I love the idea of a self destruct after 10 tries:

Self-defending IronKey Basic drives are hardened to stand up to malware or mischief, so confidential data stays where it belongs. And after 10 failed consecutive password attempts, the device will either self-destruct or reset (if previously enabled) back to its default state.

Go with a name brand with good rep if you are storing keys.   If you are going for "novelty" usb might be low quality.

Most important thing to make it badass.... .encryption.   Use it.
12916  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: if one has a million to spend.. what profits on: November 23, 2014, 03:30:25 AM
There are so many things that it is not easy just to throw out a number.

There will be discounts with such big of orders.   Do you host for others? There is more room and cost, and revenue.   At this point you really need full time staff 24x7.  Electricity will be a huge factor getting it in right place will take time.   And really need to hire someone professional to set up electrical and fan systems, do not want fires.

If you have a million.... i'm sure this is all possible to do.  But if you don't it is impossible to come out with a good estimate.

though to be totally fair the 'luck' on btcguild has been sweet the past few days..

They had a dry spell for a while.   I loved the pool for the longest time though.

Has anyone received their RMA parts from syscooling?  (They used EMS shipping on me)

I started talking to them on Nov 7th and its now Nov 22 still no replacement.   That is about half a month.  I had to buy adapter and pumps for each of my C1's to get up and running (In it around another 100 dollars).
Which pump did you finally end up buying and how are they working.

They are working great on pumps.  There could be a better place depending where you live, went to ebay and sorted by items in US (I am in US and did not want to wait for pump to come from china).  The pump with original set is 450 L/H. Make sure to go with 450L/H or higher, the one I went with was 500L/H.  I also went for pins so I could plug the 3 fans and pump into a molex to 3 pin power connecter.

Pump:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380693788606?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AI

Molex to 3 pin adapter (To use instead of syscooling harness):

This pump you bought on Ebay, did you have to switch to a different size tubing or the 8mm worked ok? And you used the same barbs also?

They worked fine.   One trick someone in here gets credit for is warm the end of the tubing in hot water.  Makes it MUCH easier to get on barb.

Where is local pickup at?

West Chester, Pa. USA!

I personally want to believe in the hashra stuff.  But i want to see more then rendering.  If you are a seller of hashra do you have any video, pictures of the December stuff? (It's almost December, and I have just seen renderings)
12920  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Cooled Miner C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 22, 2014, 10:55:27 PM
For those of you buying other watercooling supplies. Can you give me a frozenCPU shopping list for what kind of fittings you are going to use along with the diameter of the tubing please.

I believe tubing is  3/8" ID (Please correct me syscooling if wrong).

Parts I suggest replacing are if you have version 1 harness.  And their pump.  We do not know at what point you get a pump that was not tested dry.   I was down 2 out of 2 pumps.  (Still have not received RMA from syscooling).  I bought new pumps myself.
