1301  Economy / Auctions / Re: 24 hours **Amethyst from Uruguay 5.88cts** Lilac color- stunning! on: February 06, 2012, 08:20:26 PM
Yes Turbor I think it will.  It is symmetrical and lines appear all nice and parallel.  With a stone like amethyst there is not as much pressure for the cutters to retain weight from the crystals as they are modestly priced and widely available.  You are more likely to get a really fine cut on a stone like that.

1303  Economy / Auctions / 24 hours **Amethyst from Uruguay 5.88cts** Lilac color- stunning! on: February 06, 2012, 03:47:47 PM
This is a wonderful amethyst cut into an emerald shape.  It weighs 5.88 carats and measures 12.26 x 9.22 x 7.17mm deep.  It's a big, gorgeous stone that you will absolutely love to own!

It is all-natural with no treatments.  It was mined in Uruguay, cut and polished only.  This is not hydrothermal synthetic like the stones you see so often on eBay!  We guarantee our natural stones to be mined from the earth.  If it is synthetic we will state so very clearly in the thread subject and in the body.

This is an extremely clean stone and the clarity grade is VVS (very very slightly included).  Your satisfaction is guaranteed or your money back.

This auction will only run for 24 hours and the bidding starts at 8BTC with 1BTC increments.  Good luck!

And one last pic...

1305  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction **2.47 ct rhodolite garnet from Madagascar** silky! amazing! on: February 06, 2012, 03:14:19 PM
Who can tell me why Kashmir sapphires are so beautiful and valuable?  Anyone?  Why are they worth more than a very similar sapphire from Ceylon?  Silk!  Yes, that's right- there are inclusions inside the stone that increase their value.  It's not really silk, of course- we just call it that.  Perhaps the fact that they look like little strands of silk is why.

This rhodolite garnet from Madagascar also has tiny inclusions inside which serve to "soften" the brilliance.  In effect they break up light in a way that is perceived by your eye as being "soft" or smooth- especially compared to the sharp brilliance of a diamond, or the colorless topaz from Burma that we have listed in the auctions currently.

This beautiful rhodolite garnet is a superb example of how inclusions can add beauty and value.  As a gemstone collector you should be able to explain this phenomenon to anyone who asks- or better, just show them!  If you put this stone side-by-side with another stone with sharp brilliance the difference is obvious.

This gemstone hails from Madagascar, it weighs 2.47cts and measures 8.15 x 6.14 x 4.61mm deep.  It is unequivocally guaranteed to thrill you, and to be totally untreated.  This stone was mined, cut, and polished only.  No heat, no chemicals, no filled fissures!

Bidding starts at 9BTC and the bid increment is 1BTC.  Good luck!

1307  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction **Natural mined Brazilian Citrine pear 3.76cts** beautiful stone on: February 06, 2012, 02:58:25 PM
This is a really beautiful gemstone that you will love!  My wife Melanie and I hand-pick every stone that we sell.  We live in Bangkok, Thailand and spend most days at the gem market here picking through parcels of stones looking for the true beauties.  We found one in this citrine!

This natural citrine weighs 3.76 carats and measures 13.26 x 8.75 x 6.43.  YES!  It has great proportions for a pear!  This isn't one of those long, skinny pear-shaped stones or a short fat one.  We throw those back into the pile- we don't buy them!  This citrine also has gracefully sloping shoulders.  Sharp shoulders are another downfall of many pear-shaped gemstones.

As with all of our gemstones that are called "natural", we guarantee that this stone was mined from the earth.  This stone comes from Brazil.  Most citrine is heat-treated and you can safely assume that this gemstone was treated with heat.  Of all of the gemstone treatments, heat is probably the most widely accepted.

This natural citrine has a clarity of VVS (very very slightly included).  It is extremely clean.  The color is excellent.  The bid will start at 6BTC and the increment is 1BTC.  24 hours only!

1309  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction ***Burmese colorless topaz 2.70cts*** no treatment on: February 06, 2012, 02:38:20 PM
This is an amazingly impressive stone.  The cut is outstanding and it has fantastic brilliance.  This is a 100% natural topaz mined in Burma.  No treatments!  For the collectors out there, this is a great way to break up a box of colored stones with some brilliance and it will bring a tray to life.  There is a contrast between colored gemstones and colorless stones that is hard to express, but surely you will enjoy your colored stones more when you have a few colorless gems in a tray to jolt it to life.

This stone weighs 2.70 carats and measures 9.09 x 7.02 x 5.17mm deep.  It has a modern-looking emerald scissor cut.  This is natural Burmese topaz with no treatments!  It was mined from the earth and cut and polished only.  The clarity of this stone is exceptional: VVS (very very slightly included).

This auction will only run for 24 hours so please bid now!  Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.

This stone starts at 8BTC and the bid increment is 1BTC.

I just starting putting new gemstone auctions up:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=73.0

The first one is a gorgeous green chrome diopside from Siberia, there is Mali garnet which comes only from the country of Mali in western Africa, and many more will be coming very soon.

Also note that there are expired auctions of other gemstones, and you can buy these directly with no bidding.  Just send me a note or an email or post right on the thread.

Thank you for looking!

1312  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction ***RARE Mali garnet trillian 1.48 carats*** on: February 05, 2012, 02:30:52 PM
Many folks think that garnet comes only in dark red.  Oh, my- no.  Garnet can be yellow, green, color-change that moves from blue to purple, and other colors.  But what is most often seen in the West is dark red "rhodolite" garnet.  It is not expensive primarily because it is not beautiful.  If you have a stone that is nearly black- what fun is that?  It's the same with blue sapphire.  The cheapest ones that come from Australia or China are very, very dark blue- nearly black.  They should be cheap!  But when garnet is beautiful, it can be enchanting.

Mali garnet is special for many reasons.  First, it is very beautiful and also rare.  It comes in gorgeous green, honey, cognac, and golden hues that are stunning.  It comes only from Mali in West Africa- it is one of the very few stones to have only one source country.  Mali is home to Timbuktu, by the way.  The country is largely barren and is nearly one million square miles in area.

When Mali garnet is very well-cut like this one is, the brilliance is startling.  It catches the light and sends it back to your eyes very efficiently which creates wonderful sparkle.  Coupled with the orange/cognac color of the stone makes it a very beautiful gem.  Mali garnet is also singly refractive, like diamond or spinel.  That means that a ray of light that goes in to the stone also comes out of the stone as a single ray.  It is not split into two rays like it would be in a ruby or sapphire or emerald.  This is true of all garnets; they are singly refractive.

Mali garnet is also hard enough for use in any kind of jewelry.  It is a "7" hardness on the Mohs scale.  This stone weighs 1.48 carats and measures 6.82 x 6.78 x 5.15mm deep.  Look at that depth measurement!  Have you ever heard that 100% of the balls that you putt too lightly will not go into the hole?  Likewise, 100% of the gemstones that are too shallow will not have beautiful brilliance.  Gemology students will tell you that a stone that is too deep can have extinction (one kind of lack of brilliance) and stones that are not deep enough will be windowed (the other kind of lack of brilliance).  But in real life I can tell you that virtually 100% of stones that are deeply cut are also very brilliant.  Remember this when you shop for stones online, and get to know the ratios that are acceptable.  It varies with each species, but if you regularly buy a certain type of garnet, or sapphire, or spinel- you will quickly learn how deep it needs to be in relationship to other dimensions.

This beautiful and rare cognac-colored Mali garnet starts at 8BTC and the bid increment is 1BTC.

1314  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction ***1.00 carat Siberian chrome diopside*** brilliant cushion on: February 05, 2012, 01:48:04 PM
This is a stunning chrome diopside from Siberia.  It has not been treated- only mined from the ground and cut and polished.  This stone is a cushion shape and weighs 1.00 carats.  It is superbly cut for great brilliance and also has a very deep green hue that is neither too light nor too dark.

The dimensions are 6.07 x 6.03 x 3.59mm deep.  As always we will ship this stone via registered air mail and your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.  You will receive a tracking number after your payment and will be able to track your parcel online.

Chrome diopside is a relatively rare gemstone; you are not likely to find one at your local jewelry store.

If gemstones were priced only according to their beauty you would have to pay an exorbitant sum for this gemstone!  Many people find the green hue more attractive than either emerald or tsavorite garnet.

Your satisfaction is always guaranteed 100% with Tip Top Gem.  We have been in this business for over 8 years and we know gemstones.  Having access to the largest gemstone markets in the world here in Thailand means that we can select the best for you, and offer very high quality gemstones at reasonable prices.

This 1 carat chrome diopside auction will run for only 24 hours so please bid if you are interested!  The starting bid is 9BTC and the bid increment is 1BTC.  Good luck!
1315  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - What would YOU the community like to see and join us???? on: February 05, 2012, 12:57:47 PM
I've been with Crypto X Change for a couple of weeks now and they have real potential to become the premier exchange.  Their customer service is excellent and lately there have been a lot of new clients which means the spreads are getting tighter and liquidity is great.

Making the bottom ticker optional was a great change; I would like to see the site simplified further.  It's not just for my purposes but I have a lot of clients who are 60+ year old women who will admit their computer skills are lacking.  I realize bitcoin is not all-inclusive yet but if we make it more user-friendly we will see huge gains.

The transfer direct to a bank account is a very good feature and will set them apart from other exchanges.  Right now it is $5AUD plus .6% according to the site but I believe dropping the .6% is in the works.

Overall I think Crypto X Change is the best choice right now.

Many more rubies available in all sizes and prices.  Glass-filled ruby can cost very little, and unheated African ruby is a great value.  Whether you want to spend a few hundred dollars or many thousands, I have a ruby for you.  Send me a note at dave@tiptopgem.com for answers to your questions.
