1301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A creative way to introduce BTC to newcomers on: August 25, 2023, 10:27:40 AM
Nice video.

But it is nothing more than bitcoin price from the 2009. When I was a newbie to bitcoin, I checked the chart myself from 2009 and which I will prefer and encourage people to do.

You talked about bitcoin to reach ATH of $69000, but you did not talk about how the price has fallen already which makes it cheap to buy again because the price of bitcoin is $26000 now and you uploaded that YouTube video not up to an hour ago.
1302  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: August 24, 2023, 03:45:07 PM
I don't see it in your way and most of what you even narrated are very good reasons for it to be disabled if possible. Merit earning and sharing are not all about whether or not you are established or whether you can redistribute it better, the first requirement is for you to share value through quality posts.

I've read through WO many times and posted there about two times, but the truth is you will hardly see anyone sharing value there. The thread has degenerated from what @infofront created it for.

Imagine someone who did not share value earning 32 merits in a single post. This is alarming. Should it be disabled? I say Yes if it continues like this. But No if they can return to the reason why it was originally created, and it should be better moderated with strict rules.
I have visited WO very well and I can see how they are sharing and cycling merits, but some of the exciting posts can be sent merits. I think I like what The Sceptical Chymist, LoyceV and other and many other people said about this. You can read what they post about this.

Merit is not what that is 100% accurate, but it is keeping the forum from shit posting. There are some posts on local board that do not worth the quality of posts on general board but showered with unnecessary merits.

If theymos do not see how this is affecting posting on this forum, he will do nothing. I am very sure that he will do nothing about this. Everything is working good even if some people are smart enough to receive merits with little efforts.
1303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin Millionaire Remains Optimistic About DOGE Despite Significant Losses on: August 24, 2023, 02:55:32 PM
Doge is a good coin, but I do not guarantee altcoin ATH, but it can happen. I will be guessing/gambling that doge may reach $1 in the next bull run. I am only guessing, do not take my word to be valid because it is under probability. The coin that I am certain about that would increased and reach ATH is still bitcoin.

I will advice anyone that wants to invest in doge to be careful, they can invest but when it increased very significanly, they should know that bear market time would come and they should not think two times before they should sell it.
1304  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode? on: August 24, 2023, 07:06:56 AM
In Android, you can check the wallet's type by tapping: "<Wallet name> -> Wallet details".
You should see a "Watch only" tag with an 'eye icon' above the screen below 'Wallet details'.
If he open electrum, he will see the eye icon at the superiolateral side.

1305  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Disable merits in the Wall Observer thread on: August 24, 2023, 06:38:44 AM
You can see some posters that are on WO that are established even since long time ago but not really active on other threads than to post about just the price of bitcoin. There are also good posts on WO that are given merit. Merit system is not something that is totally accurate on bitcointalk, but it helps against spamming.

Should merits be disabled in the WO thread? No
1306  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode? on: August 24, 2023, 06:26:37 AM
It will only look like a wallet that you can spend from but it is not if you use use the public key. The private key or the seed phrase allows you to spend, but the public key makes it a watch only wallet. If you do what OmegaStarScream said, it is a watch only wallet.

The master public key will start from zpub.
1307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bnb after next 5years on: August 23, 2023, 11:48:35 PM
but seeing from my past experiences as a holder of BNB, in the previous bullrun it didn't have that much increase honestly though it does increase at the initial stage of bullrun but its not long lasting ones unless some other coins out there.
As of January 2021, BNB low price on the first day of the month was $35. It increased to $210 in February. ATH in May 2021. The price at $216 as of now. The ATH price was $691. If I should talk about this, BNB increased significanly. Although there are some altcoins that pumped 100x and more like doge.
1308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bnb after next 5years on: August 23, 2023, 09:39:02 PM
BNB in the next five years. What can possibly happen:

The coin is less volatile and the price may increase.

But if Binance is hacked and coins were stolen. This would affect Binance exchange, the BNB and BUSD. BNB can fall to almost of no value and become shit coin and become useless for previous holders.
1309  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful with your identity documents and KYC on: August 22, 2023, 09:54:23 PM
Now how do they uses to verify their exchange account such as Binance main while before your identity could be used for verification on Binance p2p trade it should be that your bank name and your kyc details tally correctly before you could execute trade on binance, this same thing applicable to the buyer and the seller and if both details aren't complete Binace wouldn't allow such trade.  At this point where and how taking account number will lead to scam each other?
You know the extent scammers can go. It is possible that some people are impersonated among the victims and asked to give them details that can be used to steal money from their bank so that they can receive their high yield investment profit. In my country, this scam is very common in a way that scammer can steal your money from the bank which is through impersonation and if you give them what they requested for, your money in your bank account would be stolen. But some people carry it to the next level of using crypto instead of doing the scam directly.
1310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fake KYCs are real on: August 22, 2023, 09:12:03 PM
The case in your OP is different from the usual seller refusing to release funds from escrow or buyer not actually sending funds but marked the order as paid, etc.
Thank you for telling me this. I have edited the OP to make it perfect for people to understand. The people that submit their KYC documents to scammers unknowingly are the victims which are not even involved in the transaction between buyer and seller, but because their bank account details was known to the scammers, it was used to make transaction from the victims bank account.

I see this as a way not to steal directly from the victims bank account, but instead, they use it to buy crypto from a centralized exchange.
1311  Other / Beginners & Help / Be careful with your identity documents and KYC on: August 22, 2023, 07:39:04 PM
I was reading this, that bitcoin and other crypto were banned in India in 2018. The ban was lifted, but later 30% crypto tax was imposed on crypto users and this led to Indians preferring to exchange crypto and rupee within themselves which can be on decentralized exchanges or centralized exchanges.

How the P2P scams happen

One way P2P scammers steal user data is with the help of fake crypto-centered channels on Telegram that promise high profits or airdrops. Many gullible users looking to make a quick profit often join these channels and share their personal banking information. In many other cases, the scammer simply buys or steals the user’s personal information.

The stolen data is then used to create a P2P account on any popular P2P platform — Binance and WazriX are common in India.

The scammer then initiates a buy order on the P2P platform looking for unsuspecting sellers. Once they match with a seller, they send the money to the seller using the victim’s account. Thus, they complete the P2P transaction on the platfrom where the buyer receives the cryptocurrency and the seller receives the money in their bank account.

The buyer (scammer) then vanishes with the crypto and the victim whose bank account was used to send the money only realizes it after the money has been deducted from their bank account.

The scammers will have the information to bank details and other necessary personal documents of the victim through fake airdrops and others means to lure the victims to provide their personal data. They will use the victims documents and necessary bank details to register on a centralized exchange. Create a centralized exchange P2P buy order, using the victims money that he has in bank to pay and receive crypto in return. And the scammer will transfer the coins out of the exchange.

You can read about this in complete from https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-p2p-scams-india

Avoid giving out your personal documents and personal data because it can be used to steal all your money.
1312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Potential Impact of Binance Collapse on Bitcoin ($BTC) Price on: August 22, 2023, 04:27:02 PM
If Binance collapse, bitcoin price would fall, but altcoins will suffer more as their prices will fall more. Binance coin would fall most and significantly and investors will lose significantly. BUSD may likely depeg.

But after bitcoin fall, the price will increase back. Bitcoin does not depend on Binance.
1313  Economy / Reputation / Re: I need help the adivce regards my loan service here on: August 22, 2023, 10:46:26 AM
You are not borrowing, but you want to lend. Just create a service about it on lending board and you are good.

I will advice you to know that lending is risky, make sure you lend people that are in signature campaign that are not likely to go away with your money. You can also lend bitcoin to people that have collateral.

Go to lending board and see how other people's lending discussion OP are about to understand more.

1314  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trading and gambling on: August 22, 2023, 08:38:24 AM
It's because gambling is for fun, which is why people got addicted to it as a form of entertainment, but in trading, it is somewhat of a skill or a job that you are pushing yourself to do just to gain profit. Also, people really misconstrue trading as gambling, as others just treat it like gambling by guessing where the price goes and relying on luck, and that is where the big losses start. Though there are still people who are addicted to gambling, let's say their screen time is more than 8 hours, as they are really wanting to trade, which is also a bad thing because you'll be trading huge amounts at that time and again prone to losses.
Trading should not be taken as a job, although it can be a job for those that understand it. Trading can be worse than gambling for some people, they will learn but still lacks the knowledge to make profit with it. For anyone that is trading, it is good to first use small amount of money and continue with it. In trading, someone can be addicted and continue to trade and lose. I am not disputing what you said, but trading is very risky like gambling.
1315  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Local peer to peer should be allow on: August 22, 2023, 08:28:11 AM
While also using decentralized exchanges which is the best way for privacy, it is good to still follow the right procedure because scammers are everywhere. If you can follow the right thing to do on a decentralized exchange like not to release coins until you see the money on your bank account, and to check the coins directly on your bank account and make  sure your account has be successfully credited. If a vendor is not reputed, it is better to avoid the vendor.
1316  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode? on: August 21, 2023, 10:35:17 AM
Even with Tor, you still leak all your addresses and allow them to be linked together. The only way to be anonymous with any Electrum wallet, watch only or not, is to connect it to your own node/server.
You leak your wallet addresses but tor will mask the IP address in a way the central server will not know the IP address. To have a full node wallet needs over 400 gigibyte and addictional gigabytes daily, that makes people not to have full node wallets. The only way to complete privacy is to have your own electrum server or full node and connect to it instead of the central servers, but not everyone that can afford this.

With tor, you can still try as much as possible to be anonymous to some extent. You can have an offline ways to generate seed phrase, get some private keys and their addresses. Get different wallets like Electrum, Sparrow and some other open source and import the private keys of each addresses on the different wallets.

Like this:
  • Electrum, private key 1
  • Sparrow, private key 2
  • Samourai, private key 3

Or generate seed phrase on each wallet and fund just one address. Using tor to connect to each wallet and changing the tor routing connection for each.

With tor I can still be anonymous but it is not like the more privacy that full node wallet can give with ease.
1317  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Open Electrum Android App in READ-ONLY mode? on: August 21, 2023, 09:32:50 AM
You create such wallet to follow up your wallet transaction, balance without needs to copy and paste your addresses to block explorers and check those details. Because if you use block explorers without Tor connection, you leak your information.
If you are using watch only wallet without tor, you are also leaking your information to the central server. Information like IP address and your wallet address would be leaked.

Watch only wallet on tor is good to be anonymous, but if you check the information on explorer with tor, it is also good. Watch only wallet gives convenience to track your wallet, but offers more than that. Watch only wallet can be used to make unsigned transaction and also used for broadcasting signed transaction in addition to its function.
1318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Monero so unpopular? on: August 21, 2023, 06:38:11 AM
I dont think its not a main coin. Being in top 100 projects based on coingecko and coinmarketcap is one of the main coins or tokens. Its based their listing on marketcap and they have a huge one compared to other competitors. Not to the point that will head on like bitcoin since its really the number 1 coin. Privacy is important too but with the case of monero many exchanges wouldnt like their style thats why some got them delisted before on major cex.
Monero is still listed on many exchanges, like Binance, Kucoin, Kraken, Bitfinix, Gate.io, OKX, MEXC, CoinEx and many other exchanges. Monero is listed on decentralized exchanges like Bisq and many others.

If it is not listed on exchange like Coinbase, we all know how Coinbase is like this and how they restricted many countries. I am one of the people that do not like such an exchange like Coinbase.
1319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ASIC or Anti-ASIC? on: August 21, 2023, 06:29:50 AM
I think I read in some years ago that some coins like monero is ASIC resistant. I do not know if this is still true as of now. If People can use less expensive devices like GPU or CPU and nothing like ASIC, there will be more decentralization in mining. But this should be in a way that the computational power should not be more than certain power for each devices used for it, but if it is not like that and which I do not know if it is possible, it might be possible that such coin blockchain may not be resistant to 51% attack.
1320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After more than one year, what do you think of ETH changing from POW to POS? on: August 21, 2023, 06:24:15 AM
Do you think POS will weaken decentralization?
If you are talking about bitcoin and altcoins, there is nothing that will weaken decentralization. But if you are talking about altcoins, I do not know but there are people that prefer decentralization. If you are talking about if PoS is not decentralized, yes it is not.

Does switching from POW to POS significantly reduce gas costs? And significantly improve TPS?
No, it does not reduce fee at all.

Why do you think ETHW failed?
Because ether and ERC20 has gained ground already and influenced by their creator like Vitalik Buterin.

If there is a new coin that tries to re-provide POW ETH, will you buy it?
Bitcoin is PoW and has not changed, you can go for it.

I found several POW-based ETH altcoins released recently, do you think these altcoins have a future?
There were some that were successful in the past, there are some that are created now that will have future. But just that developers of today are lazy and only go for token instead of a coin.
