Alzander, what kind of attack? I read about a DDOS attack on the Burst website and online wallet. But if the attack is on the Burst nodes and miners itself, stopping mining and transactions then the network itself cannot be trusted for payments.

Is there another coin that uses Proof of Capacity? Burst may have inherited the slowless of NXT.
1302  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Most Trusted Exchange on: August 31, 2017, 03:42:25 AM

I voted for Bittrex for trading, but to store coins it would be at Magnr.

Its never advicable to store coins with a 3rd party wallet provider or an exchange. This is a rookie mistake in handling cryptocurrencies. Its better to lose a trade because you stored them in your wallet than losing it all because you stored them in an exchange.

Sorry, if this question is asked here before, but i feel that the cryptocurrency "industry" is pretty much like
internet companies back in 1997-2001.Too much optimism and no regulations.
2017 has been an awesome year for all the cryptocurrencies and all the ICOs and more and more people are buying tokens. What do we need for the next big crash?(This question sounds stupid,i know. Grin)
Some big exchange platform hacked,or some major ICO failure?
I don`t want a big crash to happen, but we have to be prepared, anyway.

I don't think we could place the dotcom bubble on the same footing as Bitcoin

They have many common features, of course, but there are still quite a few differences as well. First of all, people invested in dotcoms since they expected them to be a real deal, i.e. they hoped that in some time all these new hi-tech companies would start producing real value as innovative goods and services. Bitcoin, on the other hand, is a purely speculative asset, and people investing in it simply hope that it will rise in value due to expanding speculation. If it doesn't, this is not something which they don't quite expect. That seems to be a major difference, i.e. no lies and thus no false hopes about the stuff people do

With BTC, I agree. Its apples and oranges if you compare real cryptocurrencies with the tech stocks of the dotcom boom. But what about the ICO projects that have been run like real companies, with all the offices, CEOs and the funding? For me they look more the same with the pump and dumps of the tech bubble

Okay, ICO's look more like the dot-com era ventures

On the other hand (just playing devil's advocate here), many dotcoms back then might have actually tried to make it but failed in the end, while what we see today seems to be more like deliberate scam attempts. Indeed, there should have been dotcoms that had never meant anything real right from the start, but the percentage should be significantly lower back in the day than it is nowadays. In a sense, people were more idealistic in late 1990's early 2000's, both investors and entrepreneurs alike. Investors weren't as greedy and cynical as they are today while entrepreneurs weren't as fishy and scammy

Im sure were also lots of IPO scams during the dotcom bubble. If you try to research about pink sheets securites, many of them were scams. Until today, the same type of scammers do the same con jobs. In the world of cryptocurrencies however, it has made scamming easier to do, thats why theres more of them in ratio when compared to IPO scams.
1304  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi just sold his mined Bitcoins from 2010 on: August 31, 2017, 03:08:11 AM
Heres another possibility. What if BTC is already at its peak in value and the earliest of investors are getting ready to sell everything and invest in some other cryptocurrency?

Hello Burst community! I have been looking for a cryptocurrency to invest in for the long term, and one of the criteria has to be is the project must be doing something differently from the rest. The feature that attracted me to Burst is the mining algorithm Proof of Capacity.

I tried to read more about it but I havent found much information, except that Proof of Capacity has its own flaws and attack vectors. Can a developer please comment on that and on POC's development?

It might be better for Burst to drop all other developments and concentrate on POC.

I have been using Poloniex and Bittrex since I started trading cryptocurrencies and some at Kraken if the market is idea. But after all the withdrawals delays experienced by some users in Poloniex, I have been using more of Bittrex with some trading done at HitBTC.

HitBTC is a good enough complementary exchange if you need one.

1308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi just sold his mined Bitcoins from 2010 on: August 30, 2017, 03:34:11 AM
Maybe the person wants to dump their Bitcoin Cash and are simply moving their coins to protect from a replay attack prior to cashing out the BCH.

Thats a good theory, but let me counter that for fun. What if that is Roger Ver who is getting ready to sell some of his BTC in order to have the funds to pump his new beloved BCH?

From what Ive heard BCH needs to be pumped to stop the miners from abusing the EDA.
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How the NSA identified Satoshi Nakamoto on: August 30, 2017, 03:19:02 AM
I came across this blog and its interesting to think that if the NSA does have the technology to know who the person is by using stylometry, then its really possible that Satoshi Nakamoto's identity is known by a few top people in the government agency.

To those of you who had the pleasure of talking to Satoshi, what was he like and what kind of impression did he leave? Was he a mathematician, coder, a guy living in his mom's basement? Wink

https://medium.com/@amuse/how-the-nsa-caught-satoshi-nakamoto-868affcef595

Quote
Using stylometry one is able to compare texts to determine authorship of a particular work. Throughout the years Satoshi wrote thousands of posts and emails and most of which are publicly available. According to my source, the NSA was able to the use the ‘writer invariant’ method of stylometry to compare Satoshi’s ‘known’ writings with trillions of writing samples from people across the globe. By taking Satoshi’s texts and finding the 50 most common words, the NSA was able to break down his text into 5,000 word chunks and analyse each to find the frequency of those 50 words. This would result in a unique 50-number identifier for each chunk. The NSA then placed each of these numbers into a 50-dimensional space and flatten them into a plane using principal components analysis. The result is a ‘fingerprint’ for anything written by Satoshi that could easily be compared to any other writing.

What about localbitcoins.com? The exchange rates are not as good compared to Bitstamp but its a good and easy option to convert cash to BTC.
1313  Economy / Economics / Re: Will early adoring countries get large economic benefits from BTC? on: August 27, 2017, 02:26:16 PM
I'm sure a very good idea to adopt bitcoin in a country. if it happens then it will bring a good change for its citizens.
As in this forum, before I know the bitcoin and this forum, my economy can be said bad. But after I got to know him very much brought change and profit to my economy and my life.

Of course the early birds are always good and i wouldn't be surprised in a few years time we'll all be fine to see the impact of Bitcoin in some of these countries that have somewhat accepted and legalized Bitcoin.

Its not the country or the state itself that would reap the benefits, but the people themselves. Think of the situation of Venezuela where inflation is at its worst. If the people start using BTC, the people get the benefits but the government itself continues to suffer, and I couldnt imagine a country's government dropping their power to mint to support a cryptocurrency they cant control. It would be giving up a whole lot.
1314  Economy / Speculation / Re: Atomic chain swap between btc and ltc on: August 27, 2017, 02:14:14 PM
this is actually a good point.
with atomic swap all the altcoins that has implemented SegWit and lightning network become viable options but (if i am not mistaken) the place that you are spending them should have an open LN channel not the traditional way of accepting just bitcoin deposits.

but if LN becomes popular and used by most services that are currently accepting bitcoin, then coins like LTC become a very viable option and will rise up in price.
it won't necessarily be based on their supply though.

It makes you wonder why there were a lot of forces who were against Segwit. Maybe some of the big exchanges see it as a threat to them too? Once atomic swaps are possible, there would be less need for centralized exchanges.

For kokojie's question, my reply is no. The market is comprised of people, and its people who decide if they accept a trade or not and at what price.
1315  Economy / Economics / Re: Do we need blockchain technology? on: August 27, 2017, 02:06:08 PM
Hello everyone.

When I see there are too many ICO and shitcoins on novaexchange. I keep asking myself: do we really need blockchain technology?

In case of Bitcoin. Of course, I agree.
What about ETH? I agree too.

But, have a look at the others on the market. I don't even know why should people use their service. There is no real use in real life.

An ad management system on blockchain? - We already had Google Ads & Facebook Ads.
A social network on blockchain? (steem) - Do we? I don't see anything but a centralized forum hosted on a random hosting using its currency to pay for the writers.

There are too many projects  that we don't really need it on blockchain.

Sometimes, I think there is a black swan (Blockchain is useless in real life) lurking around.

Please enlighten me.

Lets be honest with ourselves. The big reason why we are interested in blockchains and cryptocurrencies is because we could sometimes make easy money with it. These markets are very volatile and the volatility makes them profitable to trade if you know what youre doing.

As far as needing blockchain technology? No, we dont really need it yet.
1316  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info adds ether on: August 26, 2017, 10:18:35 AM
Blockchain.info will be adding BCH too but on a limited scale starting at the end of the year according to their blog. Maybe next time they will start adding other proven cryptocurrencies too like LTC.
1317  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Transaction unconfirmed for 15+ hours. on: August 26, 2017, 10:11:11 AM
miscpeasant7, you should be aware that the mempool is getting larger and that theres a transaction backlog due to the limited block size. It will take a while before everything goes back to normal.

1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 Bitcoin ? Segwit , Segwit with 2MB , 8MB Bitcoin Cash on: August 25, 2017, 11:12:39 AM
I see that there are some people here who are still in denial about Segwit2x. The top merchants have signed and they are supporting it while 90% of the miners are signalling that they would also support it.

Its just like in the real world. The ordinary people have no say in it even if they think they do.
1320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin first true enemy! Not the goverment, banks or police. It's Antpool. on: August 25, 2017, 11:02:17 AM
What advantages would Antpool gain if they keep doing this? Sooner or later they would need to start filling up those blocks again. They cant act like a little child forever.
