1301  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Shibanu DOGE, Physibit, Supreme BTC on: June 28, 2023, 08:38:15 PM
If you don't own any Supreme Bitcoin coins, do yourself a favor and snag them.  They are IMO the most underrated coins in this space.  Even though the creator is a scamming fuck, he did a great job with these.
1302  Economy / Economics / Re: 85% of AI start-ups will fail within 3 years. on: June 28, 2023, 08:36:31 PM
Oh I would probably say it's going to be even higher than that.  It's very similar to cryptocurrency in my mind.  I've always stated from early on that 99% of cryptocurrency coins/projects would fail, and that's exactly the truth and what's come to be.  I mean I guess some coins can "hang around" until the end of time, but that doesn't mean they haven't failed.

Also, lets get something straight, ChatGPT and those of it's ilk are NOT legit AI.  AGI/Artificial General Intelligence is LEGIT AI.  True AI will completely change our world.  This pseudo AI is changing our world, but nothing like AGI will. Truly self learning, no restrictions built in by the programmers...that's legit AI.
1303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Relationship between social media and Bitcoin on: June 28, 2023, 08:32:46 PM
Social media is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to cryptocurrency.  I'm not sure which it's more of though, however.  It's great because it's how word spreads, and how so many people simply first heard about "bitcoin/crypto".  That said, most of the information out on social media about bitcoin and crypto is straight trash.  I can't imagine having educated myself about bitcoin through Twitter or Facebook.  This is where all that bullshit like bitconnect gets built up.

It's a catch 22 I suppose.
1304  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: June 28, 2023, 08:29:40 PM
I take it that it was you who drafted him? Again, depending when you did,not a bad idea.

LOL, no, I didn't. Although I had my share of screwups.

Shoot, I've been playing fantasy football for over 15 years now, 2-5 leagues a year, and I still screw up all the time.  I fancy myself as quite NFL knowledgeable and good at FF..but I mean look at what place I came in last year in a league where half the people are noobs..it's a tough game! But fun..excited for my second year in this league.

So I like the Idea behind Best Ball, As you all know I pm people that forget to set their lineups or have last minute scratches.

I don't know how injuries are handled though, if your QB gets knocked out for the season your just boned? Or your kicker like butler last year? I had to use a rostor spot last year for 2 kickers most of the year and that sucked. but you need those points each week and those are positions you don't normally draft 2 players in. Come to think of it TE as well if you lose that position its not as bad as QB or K but can ruin your chances.

The free 10-man that's available on Yahoo does not include kickers and defense, HALF-PPR scoring.

Quote
Best Ball leagues have a fixed roster with a total of 17 players on each team: 8 starters and 9 bench.

Starters:

    1 Quarterback
    2 Running Backs
    3 Wide Receivers
    1 Tight End
    1 Flex (W/R/T)

Thinking about this I guess the drafting strategy would be way different.

You guys that have played it want to chime in on these thoughts?

I haven't played in one yet. I was hoping ChiBitCTy might give us a few pointers, but it appears they haven't either...perhaps wheelz1200 has some experience with these types of leagues?

Given the format, i'd guess a WR-heavy draft, 2-3 QBs, and 9 bench spots should account for injuries...idk.

Also I would have no problem doing 2 leagues this year of differing formats (except ppr) and think it would be fun to do a early draft on one (bestball maybe) and a late one after pre season for our main one.

I completely forgot that we plan to expand the main league from 10 to 12. It would have been convenient to have both leagues on the same platform, however, i'm not sure how 12 and 10 (the free best ball league on Yahoo is locked at 10) would work. There's plenty of time to figure it out i guess. Nonetheless, having two leagues isn't a must, i just thought it might be fun, draft and forget.

edit;

Sleeper app might be a good alternative for the best ball league, it's fully customizable (i was able to test it last night, we can match the settings from the main league), and besides Sleeper has the best design/UI of all fantasy platforms out there.

I've never played best ball but I now remember having done a deep dive in to it and how it works. Personally, it's not for me.  I like to be hands on (I'm in two fantasy baseball leagues where literally every single day you have to be setting lineups) and I just don't like the idea of drafting one roster, then it selects the players that did the best when its all over.  You don't do pick ups or anything throughout the year either (I'm sure this varies)

That said, even though I'm probably already in like 5 leagues for this coming year, if ya'll decide to do it, I'll give it a try at least.
1305  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 WNBA Discussion and Betting on: June 28, 2023, 08:23:28 PM
I am glad to see that the WNBA is starting to gain more traction here in the United States.  I was curious how well the games were attended and see on average there's about five thousand people at each game.  The top tier teams having around ten thousand per game (this is pretty damn good!!).

I don't watch it very much however, so I'm curious outside of Griner, who are the best players?
1306  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: June 28, 2023, 08:21:44 PM
I still can't get over the fact that Messi is coming to the States and joining the Miami team.  As most of you all know, soccer/football isn't something that's a big deal here at the Pro level, it's maybe the 6th most popular sport after football, basketball, baseball, hockey and golf.. so I'm excited what this can mean for the MLS and soccer in America.  Since the NFL /brain damage has come in to such strong focus, I expect soccer to pick up...as I know many parents won't allow their children to play football any longer ( having played for 5 years myself, I would NEVER allow my kids to play)..that said..do you guys think this will have much of an impact..I mean it has to do more than David Beckham coming here did, right?
1307  Economy / Collectibles / Re: These are the physical crypto brands that PCGS currently grades on: June 28, 2023, 04:18:13 AM
Are they guaranteeing any authenticity like ICG does, or are they simply slabbing them? If just slabbing, why not slab any damn coin? Otherwise if they are “authenticating”, then we’ve got a problem.
1308  Economy / Economics / Re: Should I Use Emergency funds or Sell my Assets ? on: June 27, 2023, 08:07:15 PM
As a financial advisor my first recommendation is not to not take advice from those whom aren’t themselves licensed financial advisors. I’m not saying there aren’t people out there, or even in this thread that don’t have good advice to give, but you just don’t know if they actually know what they are talking about and so that’s a scary proposition to trust just anyone.

I often hear from my clients “my coworker said I should do this” and I can tell you that 99% of the time that advice given is awful and incorrect.

No one here can give you a truly good answer unless we knew your entire financial situation. Without knowing that, giving advice would come from an incomplete space.

I often offer to help people on here (for free), so if you’d like some help, feel free to DM me.

Cheers
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Which of these Categories of Bitcoiners are Most Bullish? on: June 27, 2023, 08:01:48 PM
I don’t think there’s any question about who is the most bullish of this list we had to choose from. Bitcoin institutions are of course going to be the most bullish by nature as that is quite literally how they make a living, that is their business. So I feel like even if they didn’t believe it, they are still going to act like or say that they are bullish to try and help pump bitcoins value.
1310  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: June 27, 2023, 07:57:26 PM
To me this kinda nonsense just shows how immature Elon is and the fact that he would even entertain this is a joke to me, let alone be the one who initiated the fight.

This is pretty gimmicky, and I’m not sure it’s even going to happen, but I have to say if it does, I’ll be watching.

But seriously, Elon owns Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, The Boring Co, Solar City etc etc..how on earth does this guy have the time to even entertain this nonsense? Elon is an egotistical narcissist and I can’t stand him. Though I dislike Zuckerberg even more.
1311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your rate in betting base on odds alone? on: June 27, 2023, 07:47:30 PM

I'm hoping to make more BTC so the more bets from now on the more chances of winning. I think that's what I'm going to do now before the bull run takes full speed.
Regardless of which game. To me, I bet on Soccer but I seem to have lost every day. How often do you win in Soccer games if you just bet based on odds by picking a team with 1.50 and 1.70?

I think you’re approaching this the wrong way. The odds of course state the more times you play the more chances you have to win, simply by the numbers, but those odds aren’t at a very high percentage if you’re not very knowledgeable about what you’re betting on.

I mostly bet NFL and NBA, especially the NFL because it’s by far the sport I’m most knowledgeable about and I do quite well each year. I bet say Hockey here and there but I don’t know the game well at all and I often lose, so I stopped doing so. My advice is stop betting soccer.
1312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: June 27, 2023, 07:42:46 PM
^ We’ll see. The Trailblazers have been praising Dame for years and saying that they’d help him get to where he wants to go if he ever wanted to leave the franchise, so I could see them letting him go for a lot of picks instead of trying to get a star player. Dame is also starting to age, so from a business standpoint it’s probably time to part ways with him anyway.

At this point in time, I just don’t see why he would even want to stay in Portland. It’s been pretty clear they aren’t willing to spend the money to bring in some big guns to help give him at least a chance to compete for a championship.

Dame is easily one of the best shooters of all time and one of the best players I’ve ever seen, his window of being a star is now limited, so in my opinion he needs to ask to be traded to a contender.
1313  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Important Points to Learn from Your Worst Sports Betting Losses! on: June 25, 2023, 10:40:14 PM
This is to me is very much like when financially investing, or trading stocks/options etc. The biggest lesson of all, is to not repeat your past mistakes and by studying where things wrong, you give yourself a big advantage to not be there again.

To me though, my biggest lesson ever learned was stop betting on stuff you’re not good at. Like I stopped betting Major League Baseball and soccer because I didn’t know shit about how to bet either game. Sticking with NFL football and NBA , where I know the games better and how to bet them more so, has really paid off.

Nice list here.

Someone drafted Gronk last year, funny thing is it was right before I was going to. Smiley

Actually not a bad idea by both of you guys. I was pretty sure that he was going to come back. Gronk is famous for not wanting to do the workout and even faked some of them, which is bold to say the least but when you’re the best Tight End ever, I suppose you get a bit more ballsy (not caring all that much if he gets caught).

It's fine, you can get him this year. Get Brady too while you're at it.

(actually I haven't been following NFL at all the last few months... for all I know Brady unretired again)

I take it that it was you who drafted him? Again, depending when you did,not a bad idea.

As of right now, both are still retired, but stay alert lol Honestly though if I had to bet, I’d bet a lot that are both now officially done. Sadly.

1316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New question for experts on: June 24, 2023, 02:10:17 AM
I think it depends on whom you go and see.  If you're going to see speakers like Nick Szabo, Adam Back, Greg Maxwell and andreas antonopoulos, then absolutely it is.  If it's a convention full of turds like Roger Ver and Craig Wright, then no, I wouldn't waste my time.

Besides the speakers and what you can learn at these events, there is something to be gained in potential friendships made.  A lot of my buddies from this forum have met up at conventions and have an absolute blast.  So there's this too!
1317  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's get rid of all regulations, what can possibly go wrong on: June 24, 2023, 02:07:02 AM
This whole story has been truly sad, and it saddens me to think that someone could be so stupid with other peoples lives.  I have since heard from several experts in deep sea travel, like famed film maker James Cameron, who talked about how crazy it was that they went down like they did with all the knowledge they had.

I know it's a bit "harsh" to discuss..but that company better pay for the costs of the search and rescue mission.  That's not an economical hurdle the government should have to take on with what we now know about the situation.
1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When is the right time to buy bitcoin before the halving? on: June 24, 2023, 02:02:55 AM
As of June 22, bitcoin finally managed to be at > $ 30,000 [1], no one knows whether this is just a trick from the whales who want to trap us so that we think this is the right time to buy bitcoin. With reason fear of that happening, i tried to dig into the bitcoin price history data at CMC, after i got the data, i found that there was some missing data there.

So, i just want to ask anyone here who has data on the monthly price of bitcoin before the first halving happened (November 28 2012), this will not only help me, but also help others to be aware and understand the current situation. After getting the data later, i will do my personal analysis and present it here too, thank you.

[1] https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/

I don't think you're going to be able to gain any sort of tactile advantage by looking at the price history of bitcoin around the first halving. Bitcoin was a very different thing back then, and this recent price rise is about a lot more than just the upcoming halving.  There's a lot going on in the new, like the stuff with Blackrock /ETF.

As always, I suggest buying using a dollar cost averaging.  There's nothing wrong with making some of those routine payments a little fatter if you think things are going to take off..but DCA is really always the way to go if you're worried about big losses from trading.
1319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Confident Are You In The Reliability of the KYC system on: June 24, 2023, 01:58:50 AM
I use the Know your Customer system all the time for work, being that I work in finance, and it's always something that is certainly in the best interest of the client.  I think by Casinos requiring it up front (IF they are legit casinos), this is a good thing for both them and the gambler.  This way if you have a big winning, and have the KYC supporting documents to prove you had a "contract" with them, then they'll be forced to pay out your winnings (if it came down to it).  I mean I'm sure there's other factors to consider of course.
1320  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: June 24, 2023, 01:55:56 AM
Same for me. Didn't show up here for months.. Thanks for tagging!
I'm still interested but bear with me I will ask some questions because I am an absolute noob in building these fantasy teams  Roll Eyes
Do not worry some of us were still noobs not long ago and even then I still make mistakes, last year I drafted Brian Robinson after he got shot just because I had no idea what Yahoo meant by the NFI status, which means Non-Football Related Injury, so I had him on Injury Reserve for weeks until I could finally play him, so I wasted that pick on the draft of last year.

Lol, that wasn't too bad of a draft pick actually, I've seen much worse.  I had a work draft back in 2013 ( I always remember the year because of Jamaal Charles who won me the league with just an insane year or numbers) and one of the people in our league, I want to say she was the third pick, drafted LaDainian Tomlinson, who had retired like two seasons earlier lol. I mean she had to physically go out of her way to type in that name to pull him up.  Since he wasn't "officially retired" he was still available to choose from. lmao, so yeah, I've seen worse.
