In GUIminer you have to select pool "other", and enter server/port manually.
If you select slush from the dropdown menu, it still has the old server.

i use the drop down on two instantiations of guiminer and it works fine. it just gets redirected to the right place.

Can't all the games gamers play be modified to benefit humanity? Go bother them, there are more of them than us.
1303  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin source code is a giant mess on: June 13, 2013, 05:08:45 PM
well, this thread has degenerated, so I'll throw a couple wrenches of my own.
I've read the comments and looked at the information that I can find... I think Satoshi was a programmer, just that they were a C programmer trying to write in C++ code.
If we approach the source code from the perspective of a C programmer it could start making sense.

More likely he was a Mathematician or EE who knew how to program. Comp. Sci. types tend to understand the need for a disciplined approach to programming..
1304  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA GPU overc monit fanspd RPC linux/win/osx/mip/r-pi 3.2.1 on: June 13, 2013, 05:02:27 PM
I just installed cgminer on a little eeePC netbook because I got a new Erupter and my USB hub for my regular miner hasn't come yet. I must say that once i read the right READMEs the install went pretty quick. i had to get 7zip and that zadig program, but it all worked well. Normally, i only use this machine to browse and read books. now it is hashing too(temporarily).

Thanks guys for a great mining program. Smiley

Since nonone else asked, Did you get to meet Lisbeth?   Grin

No, but I kid you not, I met a Mexican girl on her way from Stockholm to the 'sleepy town of Uppsala' on her way to pay homage!

Another famous Swede you may, or may not know about, and like Satoshi Yakamoto, no one knows for sure if it's one or many behind the mask...

I had done some crazy shit when i used to ride, but this is Insane. Don't try this at home

Can you make your own chips? sure, you slice potatos very thin and drop them in boiling oil.... um.... never mind, wrong forum.  Tongue

Ok, this is getting nuts. there is nothing inheritantly wrong wrong with goto. the problem is that not everyone uses them responsibly. there once was a time in history when poor use of goto created what was called "spaghetti code" where people used goto's to jump into the middle of functions and such all over the place. this made the code hard to read and costly to return. This caused the stigma on goto. Structured Programming using accepted constructs becae the norm.

For any company paying to have code developed, Maintainability became the mandate. Arguing about goto accomplishes nothing. if you are coding for free, do what ya want, go ahead, develop bad habits. Somebody will make you confrom sooner or later.  the US Gov. spent hugh sums getting ADA developed and used to encourage a common structured, readable language. Today, ADA isn't so popular, i suspect because the rebels couldn't do what ever they wanted.

The thing to do if you are coding for public consumption is to write and document your code as if the next person isn't as smart as you and what is clear to you may not be clear to them. Do this and you'll be a successful Professional Programmer/Software Engineer.

Hi folks,
Not that i could tell you how, but i seem to have joined your pool ...I hope that is ok ?. I'm using my small Hakintosh dual boot win7/mac mountain lion computer on the mac side , using MacMiner application on BFG , my spec are as follows .

Of course it is OK.  Smiley Most pools are open to anyone who wants to join them.

Welcome to the Madness!
1313  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin source code is a giant mess on: June 12, 2013, 06:55:56 PM
Isn't this open source? anybody can rewrite the code in any language that they want.

It definitely *is* open source but not just *anybody* can rewrite the code - to do that you would need to understand not just the C++ language (which I don't think anyone here is arguing is easy itself) but also boost (a big library which I actually don't use) as well as the other libraries that are being used in the project.

Even the devs themselves missed the subtleties of BerkleyDB that led to the temporary "hard-fork".

In short - no-one is going to come up with a 100% compatible Bitcoin equivalent in another language without a *lot* of work (a point that has been argued in various other threads - the problem was that Satoshi wrote the spec *after* he wrote the code).

so, anyone with the time, the knowledge, and the desire can rewrite it in any language.  as for it being used. I don't see that being an issue. It doesn't mean that it can't be done.
1314  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: ASICminer - is wrong ! centralisation of BitCoin on: June 12, 2013, 06:13:36 PM
Sounds to me like someone is mad that they don't have the resources to do what others do. No one ever declared that Bitcoin should be a communist endeaver. If the bread crumbs you get aren't enough then quit mining. It takes money to make money and ASICminer found away. Why shouldn't they reap the rewards. Roll Eyes
1315  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cooperative unmixing for anti-money-laundering on: June 12, 2013, 06:05:41 PM
Money, is money. as long as it isn't counterfit there is no good or bad money. there is most likely money in your pocket that was used in an illegal activity at one time or another. Should we take it away from you?

Odd that even though our hash rate is up, we don't seem to be finding blocks much faster.

I get that feeling too, it's like extra hash power only dwindles rewards, while not adding speed.
Recentlywe dropped back to 12th/s and luck was very good.

It's like those latest additions are doing empty work / pretend to be working.

Yes, I know that sounds dumb, but still.

Is it possible for someone to submit fake shares? The pool does not check every single share for validity, or does it?

The pool would have to check every share because in software anything can be done on the mining end.

1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin a form of gambling? on: June 11, 2013, 11:27:12 PM
is bitcoin gambling? not in the traditional sense, but for many, it is kind of a game. It is a competition to get a bigger piece of the pie. Many are looking for an angle. Today i was on TI.com trying to decide if DSPs might have a chance. I decided not. This has been going on long enough that just about everything has been tried, looked at. But, we all like to think that we might come up with something different that works. Who knows, someone might. So we all keep trying, we keep mining, turning a blind eye to the inevitable.
