1321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do Bitcoin prices belong? on: November 21, 2011, 09:21:38 AM
Mark my words,

if the network proves to be resilient to price manipulation, and constant daily attacks, Bitcoins will be worth well over $1,000 a pop.

This is all a big IF ! People can only mine at a loss for SO long. People signing off, only makes the chances for a 51% attack that much more likely.
1322  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bruce Wagner - held a fuckload of coins! did he sell them all? on: November 21, 2011, 09:18:08 AM
Bruce still has a ton of Bitcoins, just like all the other people at the "top". They are all hoarding ridiculous amounts of Bitcoins and could make Bitcoins go down to $.50cents TOMORROW if they really wanted to. It's kinda funny how much this group of people control this coin.

Such a silly and trite concern.

To the extent that those "evil early adopters" have tons of coins and can "crash the market at any moment", they are but able to do that once. And if one does it, it hurts the others, so this "evil group" actually has little power or incentive to collude and zero ability to "control" anything in the long term. They can, at worst, cause a huge one-time price crash and this would be a blessing for anyone trying to acquire the coins.

Your concern boils down to deep-seeded antagonism over the fact that some people figured this thing out before you, and the great irony is that people a year from now will have that same antagonism toward you - if you are smart enough to buy at the prices today.
No, I'm pissed off that they are not actively investing the money that they took from me and many others here, on the hundreds of awesome ideas we hear about each and EVERY DAY at BTCTALK.

These ideas aren't going to happen without MONEY you know...

"the great irony is that people a year from now will have that same antagonism toward you"

If this thing makes it that long, and I am seriously in profit, Bitcoins will be marked as a revolutionary breakthrough technology instead of just a geek toy. Lets hope you're right  Grin.
1323  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Islamic Bank of Bitcoin{}بنك بتكوين الاسلامي on: November 21, 2011, 09:07:24 AM
Other people had claimed that I said he was a Muslim or that he was funding terrorism. This is not true. What I claimed was I had no information about who he is. He could be a Jewish CIA officer for all I know!

I know, not all Jews work for the CIA.... I am not equating that they are....
Sorry, I am not trying to troll you. You raise some valid questions which will be up to senbonzakura answer. I can tell you that from the few conversations I have had with him, he seemed to be preatty "reachable" if his intent ever did become malicious.  Wink

1325  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Islamic Bank of Bitcoin{}بنك بتكوين الاسلامي on: November 21, 2011, 07:49:59 AM
I no longer support or invest in IBB because of the way it runs its business. Being Muslim/Terrorists has nothing to do with anything other than his business should operated by these rules. I do not know if he is a Muslim but he says his company will operate under Muslim law. I am not an expert in this but I do not believe all assets he holds in IBB follow that. Also I do not like the direction that IBB will be heading. I think the focus is to recover the massive losses and his willingness and desire to invest in what I consider more ponzi like investments. I no longer have faith in the CEO or the business plan of IBB. This is not a personal attack as I know nothing about this guy. This is all about money.

Where does this guy live? Who is he? What are his goals? These questions he will not answer. How can I then invest in an operation like that? I should have done more research before buying IBB shares and this is my fault. I was just upset last night by the lack of information I was being provided and was being told I should not be asking too many questions. Not the response I expected.

I have never said he was a Terrorist or even a Muslim so there is no need for slander here.

I will try to work out the percentage loss of this company since it started and will report later.

I love how you equate Muslim and Terrorist to each other in your post...

You do have some valid points though, many of which are reasons why I don't invest in IBB.

If senbonzakura wants more supporters he needs to be alot more transparent.

1326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia needs help! Perhaps they should accept donations in BTC?!? on: November 21, 2011, 07:35:22 AM
Perhaps we can somehow convince Jimmy Wales to start accepting Bitcoin!?!  I'd donate some BTC in a second.  Any thoughts?

Yes. It's been addressed, and they said thanks, but no thanks. But I'm working on something that could change their mind.

just leave it alone. next year you'll see they will added a bitcoin address without our help.
I agree, if they don't want us now, no point in "selling" them. BTC's either need to go big or go home, because "selling" them to any big corporation isn't going to help. They know what it is, believe me... No need to "explain" anything to Wikipedia...

1328  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum on: November 21, 2011, 12:15:12 AM
Theymos all these features can be accomplished with SMF 2.0 GOLD and some modifications...

Obviously building something from scratch will better "secure" the forum, but I don't think that's what you were looking for initially.

I can do almost all the features you mentioned above, and we can have a full community audit once the forum is released.

I have extensive experience modding forums, here is my site http://tweetforum.com

I can do this entire project for 250 BTC... And it should take me no longer than a week.

P.S I will also make the forum new custom design as well so don't sleep on this offer!

I just sold all of my IBB stock after a conversation with the CEO. (That I did record)

I no longer take part in the company nor do I support its long term goals and what it aims to finance. I was ignorant to its goals and interests. I would advise you all to talk to the CEO about where he lives and what he aims to do!!!

As, I am not Muslim, I don't have any shares.  But I am curious as to what IBB plans.  Bitcoin having an Islamic bank is a fact I try to hide when promoting it, anyway.
I am not Muslim, although I am deeply spiritual, I simply despise religion as I believe it's the cause to most of our present day problems, and I actually think religion takes you away from god instead of bringing you closer. Now with that being said I still RESPECT Islam, and I respect what senbonzakura is trying to do with IBB "Interest Free Banking".

If you ask me it's something that you should be proud of, as this is the biggest community bank Bitcoin currently has.

And they seem to be doing a damn fine job at it.

P.S In-case you didn't already know this, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE MUSLIM TO INVEST/TAKE OUT A LOAN AT IBB.
1331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bruce Wagner - held a fuckload of coins! did he sell them all? on: November 20, 2011, 11:08:42 PM
It would be unfair to say the only reason Bruce was interested in bitcoins in the first place was because his funds couldn't be siezed by court order to pay back the several hundred-thousand dollars he owes per court order, bit it's a definate motivator.

He's too busy chasing boys and trying to make himself important in the OWS movement now to worry much about bitcoins and his failed bitcoin show though. He keeps trying to desperately attach himself to anything 'new' as some kind of pioneer of it. Last I checked he was doing some show on Android, "fnehegh" snorting through the whole thing. What a clown. And people think I'm bad.

I don't know of anyone who thinks your anywhere near as "bad" as Bruce Wagner. No one is as bad as that guy lol.
Bruce still has a ton of Bitcoins, just like all the other people at the "top". They are all hoarding ridiculous amounts of Bitcoins and could make Bitcoins go down to $.50cents TOMORROW if they really wanted to. It's kinda funny how much this group of people control this coin.
1332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can someone explain Bitcoin to Jim Rogers? on: November 20, 2011, 11:03:17 PM
If Jim Rogers wanted to do it right, he'd create an entirely new CryptoCoin, peg it to a value, guarantee that value, put MtGox out of business, and finance structured ASIC development and sell the opportunity as monopolized hardware. He wouldn't buy into Bitcoin. Ever.
Quote
Peg it to a value in what? Dollars? You can get dollars at the bank. Gold? There are already gold backed credit cards. ASICs can get reverse engineered. Has Intel ever "monopolized" CPUs?

It would seem to me that the way to "do it right" would be to buy up a million or two of bitcoins and then invest in bitcoin startups that would build the infrastructure of the bitcoin economy allowing technical illiterates to use it as well as merchants to hedge for currency risk. Then talk about bitcoin every time he goes on TV.
The way to do it right is to buy out all the coins, and start investing in good ideas.
Starting a "whole new coin" that's "backed by something" has already been done before, and it didn't turn out well Wink.

Interesting:

"FACT: These "patriotic millionaires" are Democratic Party activists pulling a political stunt. In fact, the group was created from a list of MAJOR CONTRIBUTERS TO THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN.

And not all of them made their own money either - many of them inherited their wealth and list  "activist" or "philanthropy" as a full time profession. By the way, the website for Patriotic Millionaires is accepting donations - and they are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!"

Correct me if I an wrong.
The top 1% of Americans earn about $700 billion and pay about $200 billion in federal taxes so their effective tax rate is 28%.

48% of Americans pay zero federal income tax.  Those who do pay have an effective tax rate of over 30%.

So if the rich paid the same as everyone else, an extra $14 billion would be raised.

The US deficit is over $1 trillion per year.  So fixing the tax system would eliminate 0.14% of the deficit.

While its obviously unfair that the top 1% are able to avoid 2% of their taxes, it seems like a distraction.  Its low taxes on the middle classes and high expenditure on social security and the military that is causing the problem.  But if any major politician says that this side of the 2012 election, I'll eat my shorts.

Your numbers are all wrong.

The majority of the "rich" are paying MUCH less than their designated top tier rate, because of all the deductions and loop holes.

And the reason why 48% of American's don't pay taxes, is because they barley make enough to SURVIVE,  let alone pay taxes from an under-paid and over-worked corporate slave-check.

Warren Buffet pays less than his secretary http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11317/1189189-455.stm

1337  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I told you so. on: November 19, 2011, 03:54:30 AM
Bitcoin Venture Capital warned you guys months ago. Without an economy around Bitcoin it will continue to drop in value.
All of these people trading have just fueled a massive bubble of speculation and bologna..

Several months ago, I posted the follow rant - when Bitcoin was at about $25/BTC --

Money and I have had a love-hate relationship, I've always had an interest in it. I got a job at 14 as soon as I could mostly so that I would be able to buy cool things like the fastest modem on the market, but I quickly realized money was always going to be necessary for things.
It has always killed me that although currency and debt is central to our lives, few people understand exactly how their assets and debt play into the currency system as a whole. Think about that for a second. You spend 1/3 of your life at your job (if you're lucky) to make money, and you don't even understand the extent of how that account balance plays into the financial system of my country.
I consider myself to be somewhat altruistic but also libertarian, so I've always been very conflicted with the reality that some people get to do very little work and enjoy lots of money based solely upon the virtue of having money in their family. Reconciling the idea that "working hard" and "working smart" with the obscene profits possible in the stock market and options market is very hard to do.
I've spent a couple of hours today watching a satirical video called [1] "The American Dream" after someone posted it to my facebook will. It's essentially a light conspiracy video, but there may be a tinge of truth in it.
I found where someone had posted it to reddit, and that led me to a documentary called [2] Money as debt which explains that the biggest threats to the financial system of the world are a lack of productivity and out of control interest rates.
This is what made me think of bitcoin. I'm very afraid that bitcoin is going to die unless people find a way to start seeding the production of goods only available in bitcoins.
The reason for this is simple. Right now the biggest thing I see people trying to use bitcoin for is making money without doing anything, as an investment. This is fine, but long term makes bitcoin inevitably tied to other currency systems. All of these people investing in mining rigs accumulating thousands of BTCs are eventually going to decide enough is enough and the end will come VERY quickly if there are no stores operating only on bitcoin. All of these ideas about bitcoin acting essentially as a forex alternative is great, and people gambling or buying things anonymously using bitcoin is good for the market, but these kind of endeavours will never generate the amount of continuous interest in bitcoin that a few prominent online marketplaces could.....
So here's what I'm thinking.. What we need are Bitcoin venture capitalists. That means people who have been running mining rigs and have accumulated several thousand BTC, but are currently just sitting there looking at is as an asset. Lets be honest, there’s a chance that you’ll get rich with your BTC sitting there, but it’s remote. At this point BTC is too niche, and with it getting coverage in places like forbes magazine and with an OPTIONS MARKET opening up, it’s just a matter of time before people start to look at is as a place to invest (see GAMBLE) instead of becoming a place where anything of value is actually created.
The plan is simple: You agree to fund a small start-up project in BTC. That start-up project agrees to conduct transactions on the internet PRIMARILY in BTC, offering a surcharge for any business conducted in any currency outside of BTC. The other details are specific to the individual agreement that is set up between the bitcoin venture capitalist and the management of the start up.
I have created an organization that's dedicated to matching early adopters with potential startup possibilities. I want to add forums, etc, but I'm very concerned about having to police spam, etc. I feel that by keeping it very simple, clean, and above board we can open up a unique place where individuals who are serious about the advancement of BitCoin can work together towards that end. With that in mind, check out the link

I'd be interested in input from people

It's still as true as ever.

I have a really beautiful business plan almost ready that will get you and many others excited. Have patience brother, things will get better!

1339  Other / Politics & Society / Ron Paul now in 2nd place in Iowa Poll on: November 16, 2011, 11:44:36 AM
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/poll-now-four-way-race-iowa-140636642.html?ugccmt_success=NONJS_POST_SUCCESS#ugccmt-post-frm-container

Four Republican presidential candidates are currently in a statistical dead heat in Iowa just seven weeks before the caucus date, a Bloomberg Poll released late Monday shows.

Businessman Herman Cain (20 percent), Texas Rep. Ron Paul (19 percent), former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (18 percent) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (17 percent) are statistically tied for the top slot in the state that will hold the first caucuses in the nation on Jan. 3. The poll, conducted Nov. 10-12, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

Support for Cain, who continues to battle allegations of past sexual harassment, slipped by just three percentage points since the Des Moines Register released its poll of likely caucus-goers on Oct. 29, but Gingrich has surged from single digits to the top tier in this new round of polling.

Enthusiasm for Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who led nationally for several weeks, remains stagnant in Iowa. As in the Register survey, Perry was unable to escape the the second tier of candidates in the state at just seven percent.

These numbers, however, could still fluctuate before January. According to the poll, six in 10 said they would be open to changing their top choice and ten percent were still undecided, a sign that victory in Iowa is still for the taking.

Amazing surge in numbers if you ask me Smiley
