1321  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: CBDC in Russia on: July 28, 2023, 10:20:01 AM
Don't be surprised if all major economies move to CBDC by 2025. Because CBDC has multifold benefits for a government. It easy to create, no cost for money printing. No headache to fight counterfeit currencies. 100% visibility on the financial data of their citizens which will be very effective against money laundering and income tax evasion cases.

So Russia has just jumped into this bandwagon but very soon many other major economies will start announcing their plan for CBDC. So buy Bitcoin if you want to save yourself from state surveillance.
Most friendly nations to Russia have developed their CBDCs. China and India have been Russia's major partners and have refused to join NATO states to sanction Kremlin. With the exclusion of Russia from SWIFT the international payment system, international trade payment between these nations has not been easy. Central Bank Digital Currency seems to be one of the means of helping Russia invade sanctions. But I am viewing CBDC as the beginning of the end of fiat currency. Before, at least it took efforts of minting to print a currency, now it might take just a click to produce billions of a country's currency. Without adequate security, hackers can cause harm to the system and issue billions in no time.

Argentina 2-2 South Africa

A four goals thriller match. Argentina did an incredible job fighting back from being 2-0 down and managed to level it before the final whistle.
Disappointing for South Africa at the end. Their game management, substitutions, and goalkeeping were not up to mark and cause this result. They should have comfortably won this match, but things didn't go their way. There's another match ahead, so still have a chance to bounce back. South African girls are talented, but they need to work on concentration and determination. They should believe in themselves that they can do it.
The South African female team lost a golden opportunity to get the maximum three points that would have given them better hope of moving to the next stage. The first goal was firstly disallowed as offside until the video assistant referee (VAR) confirmed that the referee's decision was wrong. The second goal also came through Kgatlana in the 66th minute but this lead didn't last for a long time because Braun's 74th strike gave the Argentine side the needed motivation to keep fighting. That goal will be one of the best goals in the tournament because it was scored from an unbelievably long distance. Five minutes later the Bayana Bayana lost their lead after a good display by the Argentine female team that led to a goal by Núñez.

Both Argentina and South Africa have an equal chance of qualifying because they both lost their first games against Sweden and Italy. The game against Sweden and Italy will determine who tops the group and how the next game will decide who moves to the next round.
1323  Other / Archival / Re: FedNow - Instant payment service developed by the Federal Reserve on: July 28, 2023, 07:59:42 AM
It also seeks to remove middlemen in the banking system, imitating the decentralization feature of Bitcoin.

Is it? Because I found if they want to opt out the instant app feature then they need to in Fed network which makes it as a middle man like one for all just eliminated the bank but its not sustainable and sine you mentioned that it is already implemented even in countries like India where the operation cost is higher and customers are forced to pay lot of hidden charges which many of them don't like.
It is clearly a centralized payment system but the services of intermediaries or middlemen such as clearing houses that causes delay in the transaction process will have to be bypassed to make the payment process fast.

Quote
FedNow is expected to be more widely available and easier to use than the RTP network and allow participating financial institutions to send and receive payments with each other directly, eliminating the need for intermediaries such as the clearinghouse.

1324  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Examine yourself. on: July 28, 2023, 07:42:07 AM
Some people may wonder, why then did i had to bring it to the forum, why not quietly work on  improving yourself more regarding those questions. Anyway, the need to me extending this to the forum is to ignite and reawakening in members that may have lost consciousness of that fact for them to examine themselves for a check and balance.
Just yesterday I read some wise words from a platform that says that self advice is the most potent form of counsel. And the only way one can properly advise yourself is through self-evaluation. We should periodically check if we are really achieving our personal and organizational goals. We have to make sure we achieve both of them because achieving only personal goals may lead to less contribution to the forum and not achieving personal goals may lead to low morale or motivation.

I will not say I have learned so much but I can attest that the more time I invest in the forum the wider my knowledge about bitcoin and other aspects of life. The bitcoin space is wide, complex, and dynamic so one needs to patiently keep learning and relearning. I have not regretted using my time in this forum because it has made me better skillfully, financially, politically, and so on. But as you advised, I will have to take a few house and examine my activities in the forum. Maybe listing some of the this I have learned will help me to determine if I have made some progress or not.
1325  Other / Archival / Re: FedNow - Instant payment service developed by the Federal Reserve on: July 28, 2023, 07:01:57 AM
It is a copycat or an imitation of the Bitcoin payment system. The peer-to-peer system is been replaced with account-to-account (A2A) transactions. It also seeks to remove middlemen in the banking system, imitating the decentralization feature of Bitcoin. But I don't see it as a threat to Bitcoin because it is nothing but a fiat payment system. It is not even a blockchain technology and is highly centralized. The only difference is that transaction time will be faster than normal and It also promises to be effective at all times throughout the year.

The US is not the first country to adopt this payment system as it has been available in some European nations, Canada, and even India and it has not limited Bitcoin growth in these nations. People that place importance on their privacy and freedom will always choose the original payment system.
1326  Economy / Reputation / Re: Give your ratings on: July 28, 2023, 05:39:37 AM
Over the month or do I say 4 to 5 months ago I was curious and eager on how to change my posting pattern also to increase in making quality post either via comments & replies or creating good quality topics.
However as times goes I picked up some advise from people over here and start practicing on it, as a beginner I wouldn't know how fast or how well I am increasing all less few people over here can take a look at my profile to judge if actually I am gradually making progress.
I am sure one of the reasons why you put more effort to improve your post quality is because you were criticized and corrected when you made some mistakes. This shows that you need this criticism or attacks as you call it to evaluate your performance and improve your post quality. So don't be scared of criticism because they are not personal attacks but worthy counsel. They might sound harsh, but they make a lot of meaning if you push aside the harsh words and embrace the advice.

Quote
Sometimes not necessarily mean that everyone must apply for a review either to get merits before their profile could be reviewed, naturally newbies( to full members) profile are meant to be reviewed and encouraged them on the area you felt they aren't doing well to enable them being more constructive and creative than to just applied for a post to get review to earn merits. Sincerely speaking if this is done I think there are some people who would make corrections that's, if only such persons had zeal and passionate enough to be useful to the forum.
There are no forum rules that mandate anybody to do post reviews for any rank of the forum. Merits are distributed based on the personal discretion of these merit sources. But some merit sources have given members the privileged of applying for post reviews and there are other threads where members' posts are reviewed. You can find them and apply. Not getting merit might not necessarily mean that you are not a quality poster and receiving many merit is not also a pointer that you are doing well. So don't rely on merit as your main grade for your performance. I know merit is a motivator, but don't lose your zeal and passion when it not coming the way you expect.

Regarding my rating SmartGold01, you are not doing badly and I am sure in no time you will achieve your next rank. I supported you with one merit. Keep improving.
1327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency to be used as an investment asset on: July 26, 2023, 09:05:44 AM
It will be better to look into other assets like stock, gold and real estate for an ideal portfolio diversification
Some crypto investors will argue that one can diversify their investors by buying some altcoins. Some will even give you a list of some altcoin that is worth investing in. Maybe they understand the sector more than me. But for me, investing in altcoin is very risky. I don't really have the proper risk management skill to handle the high rate of uncertainties that rules the altcoin sector. Apart from Bitcoin my best investment option will be real estate. So I will gladly diversify my investment by buying affordable lands and houses in my country than risk buying some altcoins.

As of today's price valuation, the market cap value of total crypto is 1.17 Trillion dollars but bitcoin only has 48% of the total share which is 560 billion so the remaining 50% is invested in the so-called altcoins. Debating whether we really need to have any cryptos beyond Bitcoin is pointless since we already have thousands of others which are alive at the moment so it's entirely the users' choice to decide where they want to put their motgat
The market cap of Bitcoin makes it very difficult for individuals or corporate bodies to manipulate. And bitcoin is gradually becoming a currency that recovers easily from attacks by certain unfriendly firms or individuals. In recent times FUD has had little or no effect on its price. I can not guarantee that some altcoin has enough market cap to withstand minimal attacks. Most of these altcoins collapse immediately after a key player dumps them.
1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: As a gambler do you have a potential winning amount limit? on: July 26, 2023, 08:37:14 AM
I have heard and read about people gambling because they had no source of income,  a job or they wanted to add gambling as part of their streams of income. Whatever your category the bottom line is that we all gamble to make money though some group claim it's mainly for fun. But who would want to be losing money all in the idea of catching fun!
Gambling is for fun and to make money. I gamble for fun and entertainment but the truth is that I don't want to lose any of my bets. I become worried when I keep losing consistently for a long time. In most cases, I will have to do a review of my gambling activities to identify any pitfalls. But seeing gambling as a stable means of income is wrong because the outcome is highly unpredictable.

Quote
There are gamblers that don't place their bet not until they have gotten a certain amount as their potential win. Some do this based on their financial challenge with the anticipation that just one win they may get on such amount is a life changer for them.
This is a wrong pattern of gambling. Some gamblers might be lucky to hit their targets but this is not always the case. If you gamble because you want to win and solve specific financial problems you might end up gambling above your means or become an addict. It is not wrong to have a target but it might not be proper to solely depend on gambling to settle financial problems

Quote
My main focus on this thread is in this question: as a gambler do you place your bet according to the weight of your financial need or you're always okay with whatever amount that comes out as potential win no matter how small amount?
I am well aware that the outcome of gambling is unpredictable. So depending on gambling to settle a need might lead to disappointment. It will be better to seek other dependable means of sorting out my problems than to depend on gambling.
1329  Economy / Economics / Re: Japan reaffirm Web3 plans on: July 26, 2023, 07:48:36 AM
If their intent is to compete with China in the economic factor then it is a good move from Japan. Technology and the web are two sectors that heavily influences the rise of a nation and just how innovative it can get. If Japan is able to execute this properly, much like what they did with accepting Bitcoin as proper payment, then perhaps other countries that are watching Japan closely will do the same.
Japan seems to be making policies to attract more investors to the country. I read that Web3 promotes privacy and decentralization since it uses blockchain technology. In June Japan enacted a law that exempts some crypto firms from paying tax. The government believes that all these crypto-friendly policies will attract more entrepreneurs from the crypto industry which will lead to economic growth. The impact of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida''s was felt immediately with Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao announcing to move its services to the new Web3 platform. I am sure more companies will also take advantage of the new decentralized network.
1330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Avoid Procrastination, Buy Bitcoin And Prepare For The Next Halving. on: July 26, 2023, 07:02:29 AM
Having experience in crypto and being a decision-maker are totally different things. There are a lot of people who have been in the crypto space for a long time now, but they still find it difficult to make a decision regarding when to buy and when not to buy. Those buying decisions are one of the hardest, as far as I am concerned. As there is always a lot of price movement and other negative teachings, we will all have to calculate them before finally making the entry call.

Not withstanding, those kinds of decisions are always serious when one doesn't have a plan for holding what they intend to purchase for a long time. If you plan to hold the Bitcoin you want to purchase for a long time, the DCA strategy will probably be the best choice. You will be constantly making purchases without considering the price, provided the money you want to use is readily available.
Your comments is an example of how I started my journey on bitcoin. I had little knowledge about investing in Bitcoin but when I studied about the coin and its prospects I decided not to procrastinate. I began to accumulate my coin using DCA. The first months were not easy because I was always looking at my wallet every day to check the price of Bitcoin. It sounds funny but that was the truth. I will check the price every time I had the opportunity. My fear and price checking gradually reduced and currently, I don't really check it in months.

But if you target bitcoin halving I think buying at the current price is not a problem, even if there is a drop back it will not be a heavy burden if the main target is halving, but yes everyone has their own strategy in buying bitcoin, but keep in mind it is also better to do it with DCA than you make a purchase deliberately waiting for the bitcoin price to match your expectations, it will delay the time you buy bitcoin.
Currently, my plan for Bitcoin is not to sell and make a profit during Bitcoin halving. It goes far beyond that and to the future. I see Bitcoin as a long time investment that can even be transferred to dependents in the future. The most important thing is to keep your wallet safe and keep investing. This is because the coin has the capacity of increasing to a price far above the price in the halving period.
1331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: July 26, 2023, 06:21:15 AM
They probably won’t back down anyway, but if El Salvador gets another president that isn’t as loyal to bitcoin, then they might start moving in a different direction and it won’t be good, they might just lose the first mover advantage they have now.

In any case, improvements in the country are noticeable, and it must be taken into account that this is happening now, when the entire world economy is not in the best condition, few countries can develop in such a situation, such difficult times just need to wait out.
The next Presidential elections will be in 2024 and Bukele is contesting, thanks to the amendment of the constitution that allows a sitting president to have two consecutive terms. Hopefully, he will win and get another five years. That means a new president will have to wait for six years to take over from the current president. Nobody knows the future but two things might happen. The new president might have seen the positive impact of Bitcoin on the country and decided to follow the footstep and plans of the current administration. But if he is a puppet of these anti-bitcoin forces, he might decide to do their bidding and make unfriendly policies. Until then, let us keep celebrating the landmarks of Bitcoin in El Salvador.
1332  Other / Meta / Re: Charles-Tim merit source application on: July 25, 2023, 10:35:07 AM
If I want to be a merit source, I want to have a responsibility to distribute merits to quality posts on this forum. If people send me merits, I can decide to send all to only one person or anyone that I like. I can even decide to hoard it. That is the difference.
I support your quest to be a merit source @Charles-Tim because even if you focus more on the technical board you are an active member in other boards. I know you are also active in Beginners and Help and Bitcoin discussion. As you said becoming a merit source is a responsibility so you are under obligation to distribute it to quality posts but giving out earned merit is a choice.

Quote
Theymos needs merit sources that can send merit to quality posts (be it low rank or high rank). If the way I merit people now make you think I will not focus on low rank members, your assumption is completely wrong.
You are a respected and reputable member of the forum and you deserve to be on the list. I don't doubt your ability to identify and merit deserving posts. We hope that you will give more attention to reading the post of low-ranking members and visit boards that lack merit sources frequently. This is because if you read them closely, you will discover that some of them are not that bad.

I totally support your application sir.
1333  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: July 25, 2023, 10:03:02 AM
Since two days ago PSG have arrived in Japan to carry out several pre-season matches and we can see that there are so many players brought by coach Luis Enrique to try his new strategy through this match. However, there is indeed something strange, namely that star player Kylian Mbappe is not visible in the photo and there have been reports that Kylian Mbappe was not included in the pre-season squad list this time and he was training separately with several other players. Maybe if we assume this is very closely related to the situation at PSG and Mbappe certainly doesn't want to rush into making a decision with the rumors that have been circulating.
The club has taken a position and it seems it is final. They want him to renew his contract or leave the team this season. And it was also announced that Mbappe will not be part of the pre-season games in Japan. His future is in his hands and the clubs that want his services. PSG has accepted the $332 million offer from Al Hilal for Kylian Mbappe, it is now up to the striker to accept or reject the offer. If he accepts the offer, Mbappe will become one of the richest sportsmen in the world because the Saudi-based club is to offer 776 million dollars per season.

The offer is an incredible offer. The terms of the deal are exactly what Mbappe wanted. He will earn many times more than he earned in PSG in 1 year in the Arabian league. He will probably be the highest-paid football player and athlete in the world. I don't think he will say no to this offer. Saudi Arabian league teams show that every player will be brought with money.
Some football analysts believe that it will be early retirement for the French striker if he accepts the offer. He will have to lose out on the competitive and exciting football in Europe. The money is huge but trophies and awards supersede financial gains. When it comes to sports everything is not money.
1334  Other / Off-topic / Re: A warning against cheating and lending to a trusted friend on: July 25, 2023, 09:44:32 AM
Most times people refuse to render help to others because of past experiences. When you are treated wrongly by people you trust, trusting people becomes a problem. This victim will never give a loan to anybody again because of this ugly experience. Lending money is risky which is why it is important to seek collateral before the funds are issued. If you think you are close to the person that asking for collateral might be improper, then let there be a witness or guarantor. To limit such ugly occurrences, give out only what you can afford to lose.

My cousin is very broken mentally and can't share this with any of his family. He can't take any legal action because Bitcoin is not legal. My cousin keeps saying one thing my best friend cheated on me then I told her a lot that what happened happened don't worry about it anymore.
OP since Bitcoin is illegal in your country don't you think it is risky to keep using it? I know in some countries using Bitcoin is a serious offence that can lead to fines and even imprisonment. Now your friend will lose that money because he can't seek legal action. It will be better to obey the law than to become a victim of the law.
1335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Every Bitcoin holder Should Take a Cybersecurity course on: July 25, 2023, 09:01:01 AM
Cyber security is advanced. People who use Bitcoin don't need that advanced knowledge to hold Bitcoin, the basics of security and privacy are enough, but sadly a lot of people don't even adhere to the basics, so when you don't follow the basics how then can you follow the advanced and more complex?
Many people don't even know the basics of privacy and security so they end up being scammed. I think OP is trying to draw the attention of members to place more importance on protecting their assets. Common sense is not always common because many people neglect basic knowledge.

You're a good fellow sir
And thanks for seeing things from same perspective  I'm seeing them because yes it is of no doubt that getting a cyber-security course is good but doing so considering the cost of the course  just fir the sake of holding  bitcoin  isn't worth it and that's bad.

The lessons are very clear, don't hold on exchanges,  don't be too greedy and don't click on every random links.
I also share your thoughts that it is not necessary to pay and enroll in a course in cybersecurity because you can learn most of the ways of securing your assets. But many free online courses on cybersecurity can be impactful. You might also think that you are well informed about security but you should also know that these hackers and scammers are also finding new ways of exploiting loopholes in the security systems. So there is a need to upgrade your knowledge periodically on cybersecurity. I also think that there is a need to learn and relearn to hold Bitcoin because some people worked very hard for years to accumulate their coins.
1336  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bundle exchange announces their cease of operation on: July 25, 2023, 08:17:02 AM
Another closure of exchange!

From the mail received by Bundle exchange, it was so sadden to see another announcement of shorten down their services.
Before I go further, Bundle is a payment app for fiat and cryptocurrencies originated from Binance exchange mainly for Africans precisely to Nigerians to help foster and fast track the ease of crypto and fiat payment through their app to Nigerians announces their cease of operations and have been sending mail across their user to withdraw funds deposited in the bundle App within the period of 60 days to their closure.
Bundle exchange services are available mostly in Africa and South Africa and Nigeria had the biggest crypto market in Africa. Since we don't have a South African board but the forum has a Nigerian section, this information would be more helpful in the Nigerian board. I am saying this because many Nigerians might be using the Bundle exchange services.

But I want to commend the management of Bundle Exchange for allowing customers to withdraw their funds. This shows that they have no intention of rug-pulling or scamming its users. This is also a wake-up call to people that keep thier funds in exchanges. Many exchanges are out there planning to scam their customers. Thank you @SmartGold01 for informing me about the importance of checking my email regularly. Sometimes I didn't check my mail box for a week, which is very bad.
1337  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: July 24, 2023, 08:54:42 AM

On this you can rest assured, there will only be one announcement, just as it is now.

The idea of the advertisement is to support the project, and therefore it cannot harm the project.
Therefore, I will do everything to keep it simple and without disturbing users.

First is the user experience and then comes the rest. I want it to remain simple and practical for everyone. An advertiser who does not want to respect this will not be accepted!
You have good intentions for your customers and it's indeed a good motive. Having so many advertisements will make the website complex and difficult to navigate through. I also know that you also need funds to finance the project. But everything should be done in moderation to keep the quality of the website intact. But the Duelbit advert was well positioned, designed, and arranged. Thanks to the duelbit team for choosing to support the talkimg project. It was a project that was born out of the desire to solve the problem of the community.
1338  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) 2021 on: July 24, 2023, 08:18:59 AM
Sometimes I just wonder why people debate against something they know it's true in this world, especially on the world of football. Talking about Messi and Ronaldo who's the goat and all that. I'm not going to say I'm a Messi or Ronaldo fan but is clear that one knows how to lead and the other doesn't.
While Ronaldo was busy being humiliated by his former team mate (Angel Di Maria), Messi was busy giving his team mates victory that they haven't had in 6 games (if I'm not mistaken) that win alone is going to motivate the team to come back to winning ways not to talk about the addition of Messi and Sergio Busquet, they'll be a great motivation to the MIAMI side too.
The difference is just clear between Ronaldo and Messi, let's leave sentiment aside, who's has the best quality to lead a team to victory? Or who's a team leader between those two?
The debate about who is the greatest between Ronaldo and Messi can be very stiff and sometimes lead to verbal and physical confrontation. I have seen people engage in physical combat because of this argument. That's why I always avoid this debate because both of them have many loyal fans. How was Ronaldo humiliated by Di Maria, was it because he was dribbled by the Argentine? Dribbling someone is not humiliation because even the best defenders are dribbled.

Messi's first appearance in Inter Miami was impactful and he gave the fans the fun and victory they have not gotten for a long time. I also observed the good relationship between him and other players. He is a good leader and motivator. But he still has a long way to go and we can't predict how his future games will be. Ronaldo is not also doing badly in the Saudi League. Although most of his goals came through penalties, his presence in Al Nassr has not been a bad one.
1339  Economy / Economics / Re: The whales stirred. What should we expect? on: July 24, 2023, 07:53:19 AM
It's hard to know if Whale's wallet sending funds to the exchange meant he sent those coins with the intention of selling them. Whales are smart enough to know how to use their funds, and they know how to generate profit from it. The purpose of this transfer could be that this whale deposited the funds in the exchange to trade in the altcoin, could be anything but we can only speculate.

And the most important thing is that once a whale sells all its coins and exits the market, there are thousands more whales sitting here to take entry to the market. So if someone sells, the other side has more whales to buy this coin. There is no point in creating FUD by looking at such a transection, you are questioning the future of the crypto currency market based on a transection!
None of us are sure of the reason for this sale, all we can do is to speculate. It is possible that these whales have gotten to their projected profit margin and they want to sell and make gains. And other whales want to buy at the current price because they are targeting the halving season. It is also possible that these coins are bought by some of the firms that applied for spot Bitcoin ETF approval in the US.

There is also a general belief that altcoins give more profit than Bitcoin. So these whales may be diversifying to altcoins believing that as the price of bitcoin gains during the halving period, these altcoins will gain triple or even more profit. It is also possible that some of these coins were moved because of strict regulations. Recently Kuwait banned crypto activities, so many investors will have to move their investments to avoid sanctions.

We can keep giving more reasons because we don't know the reason for the movement of these crypto assets.

Knowing bitcointalk forum also help me earn money by joining signature campaign and other ways to earn money. I am happy on what I achieved here in the forum and also what I learned here in the forum.
My journey in Bitcoin started here. And I have not regretted joining this forum because I have been exposed to the basics of bitcoin. The forum has so much information on all aspects of the crypto sector that can be beneficial to anyone interested. This community also consists of early Bitcoin adopters so they have a wealth of experience. No questions about Bitcoin and other coins that cannot be answered in this forum. And the good part of it is that these top members are ever willing to teach, give directions and make corrections. This forum doesn't only teach about cryptocurrencies you can learn about the economy, politics, communication skills, and many more. It has also grown to be a community where people from different countries, religions, and professions connect.
