1341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ★★ EBT Coin - PoW/PoS (30 days) - Get it while it's hot!! Now on Xnigma!★★ on: February 28, 2014, 09:04:07 AM
the mac wallet crashes on startup. I have the newest osx updates.

Yes. I am working on a new mac wallet now. I will do it for free. I received a 20k EBT bounty for the originals and they were prone to crashing. I've mined a lot, so I'll refund the 20k, maybe for a giveaway or directly back to the dev for promotion.

I have the new build that should be a single wallet for OS X almost ready.

Sorry for any problems.

I'm willing to implement KGW for 42 if Hendo and Maco is approves it of. Smiley

I like my idea better. Move to pure PoS. It has several advantages:

1. No reliance on mining hashes so absolutely no pool jumping vulnerability.
2. Present coins jump in value because they earn interest for stakeholders.
3. Can still target total money supply to 42 coins.
4. Can still award transaction fees to miners.
5. Energy efficient. Saves the planet.
6. I'm already working on it!
1343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 42 | + | + super rare + | + | + | + only 42 coins to be mined + | + | + | on: February 28, 2014, 12:30:43 AM

My Cryptsy account balance tripled. This has nothing to do with the wallet.

BitJohn was obviously a bit steamed. He was very unapreciative and has yet to provide us with an explanation.

Fishy .. don't you think ?

If I got suspicious every time a cryptsy balance did something I didn't expect, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

The most likely explanation is bugs in the cryptsy software which are completely unrelated to 42.

There is no way cryptsy can keep hot wallets for every user, so your cryptsy balance was completely independent of the 42 blockchain, for all practical purposes. Cryptsy probably has only one or a few wallets for each coin, executing deposits and withdrawals through an internal ledger system. Given that the 42 code is practically a carbon copy of litecoin and is free for anyone to inspect, a best guess is that cryptsy had some bugs with their internal ledger system. That would be consistent with my experiences at cryptsy involving completely different coins from 42.

Even if the tripled coins made it to your confirmed balance, any 42 you sent through the blockchain would have to already exist from coinbase transactions. The only way to double spend is to fork the blockchain by a 51% attack, and to anyone's knowledge, that hasn't happened to 42.
1344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 42 | + | + super rare + | + | + | + only 42 coins to be mined + | + | + | on: February 27, 2014, 06:04:12 PM

Yes we do, because this may help reveal wallets that we are unaware of or coins that shouldn't exist. Ever since my Cryptsy 42 deposit tripled itself, I can't help but wonder about all the possibilities and implications of such events.

Your cryptsy balance and the balance of your 42 wallet are independent. The date of 1/21/2014 on your screenshot coincides with many balance and account problems at cryptsy. That was about the time they instituted the self-audit feature, which they ended pretty quickly too, probably because of overuse.

I made 3 cryptsy accounts because of bugs there. I keep them on a rotation. When one stops working (all trades produce an error), I make an internal transfer to the next one in the rotation and trade from that. Then I file a support ticket.

I've had negative balances that I cleared but didn't correct the account, trade balances that didn't appear for hours, deposits that took days, the list goes on at cryptsy.*

In short cryptsy account ≠ 42 wallet.
___

*That said, they do improve over time and problems at cryptsy never cost me money, so I have confidence trading there.

Let me know what you guys think about the update to the site...  I haven't been too happy with what's been given to me up to this point so I'm just trying to do it on my own so it's at least consistent and I can keep it updated.

Hopefully you like it better than the last two.   Grin

http://www.ebt-coin.com

1. Probably the biggest suggestion I have is to think about the colored fonts. Does EBT have a palette?

How about this (the logo color is the leftmost):

Here are the hex colors: 339999/336699/663399/993333/D70202

2. It might look better and it might not, but have you tried making the "ebtcoin" in the banner match the color of the logo?

3. Also, is it possible to put the current trading price maybe from coinex somewhere prominent on the web page?

However, don't take these suggestions as criticisms. Without any changes it still looks great!

Thx for the info..

The main reason I asked for the TXid was so we could account for any past/future transactions made by Hendo or maco.

I hope that others who have recieved rewards and bounties will step forward aswell.

You don't need anyone to come forward. You can get everything you need to know from the blockchain!

Just start with the premine block (not the genesis block 0) and you can track all inputs and outputs of the transactions. You just need some coding skills to do it. Bitcoin-type ledgers are public and all inputs and outputs are perfectly transparent. Just follow the money. Unless M & H sent coins to a mixer, you can simply navigate the blockchain if you want to learn about the premine. I could code this, but I have just about 0 interest in the matter. Beyond that, I'm pretty confident that they are using the premine towards the best interests of the coin.
1347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 42 | + | + super rare + | + | + | + only 42 coins to be mined + | + | + | on: February 26, 2014, 10:42:26 PM

If they were there, then why didn't anyone point this out a long time ago ?

Random example:

Address for giveaway: 4T4nzGFFRh7fYsBSnvNGqyfg868FN8swLP
txid: ce9a67e3b57f8590e993b1dd7e7e81efd7e072111e1052389e415e34b12e1bf2
From Address: 4EThSP3Br7GRgiXtakzBvoJFCqRUZxCcVV
Balance Before Transaction: 0.17395155

If you multiply that balance by M & H, you get approximately 0.3479

So, the amount of premine gone is estimated at: 0.0721 [42], or roughly 17%.

Does that agree with your expectations?

[edit]

The inputs and outputs of the transaction may seem strange, but I believe they have to do with the Bitcoin protocol's not atomizing (a.k.a "dusting") inputs and outputs. I could be wrong on this point, but it doesn't seem anything untoward is happening. Also, it looks like each transaction costs 1e-8 [42], which is kind of cheap, if you ask me.

Please post the TXid. Smiley

I un-ignored you.

If you want to see the txids, just go to the 42coins FB page, check out the addresses, and then look up the transactions in the block chain. You could see how much the sending address is holding, as well.

I don't see them. https://www.facebook.com/42coin

If they were there, then why didn't anyone point this out a long time ago ?

My mistake. The social media page is twitter:

Something needs to be done, value has been dropping for weeks.

I'm coding starting now.

Don't want to sound like the resident madman but not forgetting there is (was?) a significant premine (0.42). If H/M agree that they've moved on, should what is remaining from that not be reassigned to a community fund and/or indeed partially nullified in the fork, if that's possible?

I guess that would be up to H/M. I'm agnostic about the right thing to do in this situation.

My position is to not be too concerned with the premine. H/M created the coin, they made the premine, all our decisions before this time have been based on that knowledge.

In my estimation, whoever holds the premine shouldn't affect the value of the coin. In fact, it would be worse for the value if the premine were already dumped because the developers would have less vested in the success of the coin. Converting to PoS would neutralize this latter concern, however.

The number of coins could be limited to 42 in a PoS model as well, so staying true to the name of the coin is not an issue.

Like the idea.

We could have a testnet by this weekend some time.

It may be time for a community fork. It's been done before.

If the developers have moved on, then the community should move to save the coin.

We could change 42 to PoS only and halt PoW production. Then hashes wouldn't matter.

We would also need to fork this thread.

Who's in?

If Maco and Hendo like the idea, I could do the implementation and it would be "official".

If they don't like it, we could fork anyway.

[edit]

I should point out that if PoW coin production stops, your coins will suddenly become much more valuable.

[addendum]

Also forking from pure PoW to pure PoS has never been done before. It would be another first for 42.

The number of coins could be limited to 42 in a PoS model as well, so staying true to the name of the coin is not an issue.

Good start. Now how about a brainstorming session on what more the community can do to help this coin develop?

1. Mission (Most Important): This coin needs a mission statement. "What if governmental EBT were a coin?" is not compelling. Could we take advantage of the name "EBT" and work some sort of charitable mission? It may be difficult to fulfill such a mission now, since EBT has such low value, but a mission statement would be a first step. The community could agree on the scope and nature of the mission, or at least have some input.

2. PR: The themes presented in this thread by some in the community seem to have some racist and misogynistic undertones. As someone who has accrued a lot of EBT, these themes don't resonate with me and may turn off the wider community. A highly successful coin needs a broad-base of adopters, not just the 18 to 29 year-old white males. I know this is basically the demographic for altcoins in general, but the theme of a coin should be more forward-thinking and strive to appeal to a wider community than just the lowest common denominator.

3. Links: The website is not listed on the topic post at bitcointalk, unless I missed it. It should be more prominent.

4. Website: The website is bare-bones. Although I like bare-bones myself, it looks a little "texty". To dress it up, it only needs some glossy/colorful buttons and a synopsis of the mission statement of the coin. For design, it would be good to emulate success. Several similar websites could serve as templates: http://dogecoin.com/ , http://www.duckduckcoin.com/ , and http://www.maxcoin.co.uk/ (down at the moment). Of these, probably the best design is maxcoin, although the website is having some problems ATM. Also, the new logo and font are really nice, but the website has a cyan border, which doesn't go with the green logo. The cyan border should be changed ASAP. The website needs to have an agreeable pallet that is based on the principle logo (which I assume is the green one). Also, the logo font should be complemented by the fonts on the rest of the website.

5. Wallets: The wallets should be redesigned with the new logo and theme. Additionally, I can create a double-click windows installer that automatically adds a proper conf file and populates the start menu. This will reduce the effort required by windows adopters to get started. They would literally need to double-click the installer then, when it's done, watch their new wallet start syncing. Ease of getting started will go far towards wider adoption.

I've tried to give the most critical and easiest issues to address to improve the value of this coin over the long run. I'd be glad to help with any of them.

As I said, I have much invested in this coin now, so my desire is to help see it succeed.

The will ever only 250,000,000 EBT.

Actually, there will only be 250,000,000 EBT proof-of-work coins. Beyond that, there will be proof-of-stake inflation. But that inflation doesn't matter to those holding coins because their total coins will inflate along with the money supply.

In other words, if you have EBT, you don't have to worry about mining's eroding your value.
