1341  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoin LN POS terminals the future of bitcoin payments? on: June 27, 2023, 09:26:48 AM
There is no future where merchants accept it as point-of-sale based payment method without going off-chain.
It depends on the definition of the point of sale. Some contracts can wait for (average) 10 minutes, such as paying for a new car, real estate, bicycle, smart phone, or other services whose average is more than a thousand dollars, and then the fees are not considered a problem, and the delay can be acceptable because these contracts It takes an average of half an hour in total.

Payment for supermarkets, restaurants, and daily needs is the problem, and I see that the lightning network is doing it well as long as the payment is done online and not offline, and the fees in general are better and faster than cash, as most of us use the phone to make these payments.

make it function more privately and be a kind of privacy layer built on top of Bitcoin. I believe that would be more in-demand than faster transactions.
TumbleBit's off-blockchain payments is an example of a way to enhance privacy outside of the Bitcoin network. They have a good idea here, but I haven't heard of an actual implementation of this protocol.

1342  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: June 27, 2023, 07:56:39 AM
Many people may not like my opinion and they may disagree with me, but if I look at the Wasabi wallet, the conversation is about the privacy and not the security. There were no reports or complaints about hacking or seed bugs, and therefore there is no need to remove it.
the WalletScrutiny report, which proved that most of the existing wallets are closed source, have weak programming, or have currency security problems.

Code:
9 Reproducible 22 Build Error! 209 No Source! 652 Custodial! 75 No send/receive!

Those who visit bitcoin.org are newbies who will not be able to properly protect their privacy.

I know the approach is not true, but even electrum is not considered to be privacy wallet.

Therefore, I am against removing them, although they are very bad.

The best thing is to put a warning about privacy.

1344  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: WIFI on Antminer S5 on: June 24, 2023, 02:58:21 PM
Will running WIFI on an Antminer S5 cause a decrease bitcoin production? I was looking at using a Linksys EA3500-NP configured as a wireless bridge.
You'd have to have electricity cheaper than 0.001$/kwH to avoid the loss, and it's hard to run a profitable business with the Antminer S5.
Yes, you can, but wired connections are more reliable than wireless ones due to less exposure to noise or the possibility of signal loss. Yes, the EA3500-NP will work as a wireless bridge, but I doubt the profitability of the project.
1345  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: LN progression on: June 24, 2023, 01:30:05 PM
This forum is a time portal through which you can pass through the events and developments of LN using this thread from the year 2021, and by reading the comments, you can get a brief bulletin. The Lightning Network node experience
Otherwise, it is difficult to get an answer if you ask in a very general way, and it is difficult to get an answer to an obscure question.
Using a Custodial LN wallet is the easiest because you don't need a lot of setups, and in the end, second layer solution is mainly intended for small transactions in terms of value.
1346  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Old Electrum wallet - 3.0.6 on: June 24, 2023, 12:24:22 PM
Avoid downloading the wallet from any link that appears. Make sure that you downloaded it from https://electrum.org and that you verified PGP signatures.
Before that, make sure you keep some hard copies of your seed or wallet file with the password.

1347  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.4.5 Released on: June 24, 2023, 12:18:49 PM

But he says he had that very problem with the version you are suggesting. He installed 4.4.3 and things were OK. Perhaps you made a mistake in your suggestion?
As I mentioned, the error is not related to the Electrum, whatever version she was using, there will be no difference.
The error happens randomly, I said that even if she used version 4.4.3, it might work because it is not linked to the wallet.
1348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Having no money to invest in Bitcoin is even better on: June 23, 2023, 03:03:06 PM
Always plan to reduce your expenses so that no matter how limited your income is, you have the possibility to save a little, and then think about how to invest these amounts wisely. Not reducing needs leads you to be bankrupt before the end of the month or at best with zero debts but without savings, so research what are the things that consume your budget and reduce them, and when you get a surplus you can invest it in Bitcoin or any other investment.

I mean, I say that the problem is not in investing, but rather in your thinking without money.
1349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When is the right time to buy bitcoin before the halving? on: June 23, 2023, 02:58:49 PM
Suppose, for the sake of argument, that you buy $30,000 worth of Bitcoin and intend to invest up to halving, what is the probability that the price will be higher than $30,000, or how much will the price be? We can say that the price will be $40,000 $50,000 dollars, but the price will not increase more than that. The same thing, if you buy $30,000 immediately after halving and sell after a year has passed, the possibility that you will sell at levels close to 100,000 dollars seems very likely. Choosing the perfect timing is stupidity for those who want long-term trading, and it is a matter of preference for short-term investment if you have another investment with a good return.

Investment is related to planning and economic thinking more than luck.
1350  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: New Mystic Stealer targets 40 web browsers and crypto wallets on: June 23, 2023, 01:05:16 PM
Targeted Cryptocurrency Applications represent a mixture of closed and open source wallets, which means that the target is not cryptocurrency wallets, but the operating system. Your use of the Linux operating system will reduce these risks a lot.Do not install applications from unknown sources, random clicking on links and similar tips are still good solutions for such viruses, but I think that antivirus services prepare such lists of wallets to give fragmented solutions and thus higher returns for them.
1351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it too late for newbies? on: June 23, 2023, 12:16:03 PM
Trying to wait for the right time to invest is like trying to hit all targets with one bullet while you have a stockpile of bullets. You will need exceptional skills in technical and fundamental analysis and knowledge of economic variables to know when is the most appropriate time to invest so that you invest at the lowest possible price so that you can sell at the highest possible price. Start with simple, beginner-friendly strategies like DCA..
1352  Economy / Economics / Re: Fast Transportation Makes Economic Turnover Faster on: June 23, 2023, 12:06:26 PM
The speed of delivery falls within the service sector, these competitive sectors are high, and if the requester of the commodity is delivered to the recipient quickly, then the economy will move quickly. we cannot say that the speed of delivery by the delivery agent on Jetpack is the fastest, because there are some restaurants that have taken advantage of drones to deliver orders, especially in the Covid crisis.

Quote
A Tel Aviv-based drone delivery company, called Flytrex, recently started providing Americans with meals from Brinker International's restaurants, including Chili's, It's Just Wings, and Maggiano's Little Italy.

Drone food delivery services are so cool it's scary - CyberTalk

The service sector will develop rapidly, along with the development of land transport, as express trains increase in speed with the development of aircraft, the possibility of commercial or tourist travel at a speed several times faster than sound, and maritime transport, which is the backbone of the delivery sector.

1353  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.4.5 Released on: June 23, 2023, 11:35:17 AM
The improvements mentioned in the release of Electrum 4.4.5 are only for Jade. Hopefully, this also applies to Trezor, as I experienced before.
this bug is related to trezor bridge and not electrum @pingec report it on Github https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/6684
Accordingly I guess this randomly fails https://forum.trezor.io/t/sign-transaction-error-session-not-found-aug-29-2021-12-28/2463/3
installing a newer version will not solve the problem because it happens randomly. I think if you go back to version 4.4.4, it might work.

it is not Electrum's problem and there is a discussion about it here https://github.com/trezor/trezord-go/issues/247
1354  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance to integrate lightning network on: June 23, 2023, 11:17:51 AM
From a business perspective, they're being really aggressive to encourage users to use their network. Would be funny if it backfires because one of their validators got exploited or fail later on.

It won't because they can simply perform a hard fork and restart the network by deleting the malicious validator.

They should educate people more about wrapped tokens if they wanted to do it this way.
I am afraid that there will be an option to withdraw wrapped tokens on the Lightning Network, that they obtain bitcoins from customers and sell them fake tokens that have no guaranteed value, and just because its value is equal to 1 bitcoin, this does not mean that it has value.

I went to Binance academic to find out about the risks and they didn't mention much:

While Bitcoin has some fantastic properties, it isn’t the fastest and can sometimes be expensive to use. While that’s fine for what it is, it can cause some headaches sometimes. These issues can be mitigated by using a wrapped version on a blockchain with faster transaction times and lower fees.
The implementations of these tokens can be very different. We wrote about them in more detail in our tokenized Bitcoin article.

1355  Economy / Economics / Re: extrinsic value on: June 22, 2023, 03:35:38 PM
Individually, all of those are extrinsic. However once entered in the marketplace, one will be dominated over the market and one of its major indicators is its marketcap. Because in the market, it's all about value exchange, function, and it's limited supply. |

It made me remember a video on the Internet of a user asking some people for either one dollar or one bitcoin, many chose one dollar and some just asked what is bitcoin and only people who know the value of bitcoin chose it.

What determines the value differs according to the place, for example, the US dollar is accepted globally, but you may sell your local currency for a quarter of its value if you move to another country, and the dollar for half its value if a war occurs, and so on. The value of Bitcoin comes from your ability to keep it for the longest period, when it may make a real difference in your wealth.
1356  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problem, why is fiat difficult to hold. on: June 22, 2023, 03:28:41 PM
Tracking money is not an easy thing, but you can facilitate the tracking process if you download an application on your phone. These applications have attractive icons that enable you to manage your financial life with ease. All you need is a few daily clicks after any purchase, and this includes small purchases, even donuts. You add them to the account and at the end of the month you will have a simple list of your expenses, after which you will decide which of these expenses are necessary and which ones you can bypass.

Google Tracking money apps you can find some apps according to your country.
1357  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 22, 2023, 03:03:22 PM

I'd like to remind that they collect these kinds of personal data which is likely done automatically,

I hope this is the only data collected, although I question the validity of this information.

There have been some GLARING security bugs that have been found in open source software that were there for YEARS and nobody caught it. 1000s of pairs of eyes on it and all of a sudden.....oops.

In this case using a multi-signature wallet where you can choose the second signature from a hardware wallet/electrum/sparrow will reduce the potential points of vulnerabilities. The problem with closed-source wallets is limited funding, so the wallet developers may make some backdoors or sell some data, or in the best case, the limited number of developers may mean the ease of finding bugs, which is completely different in an open-source wallet that has been reviewed a lot.
1358  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Multi-sig for Bitcoin holders in my category? on: June 22, 2023, 02:37:11 PM
A multi-sig decreases the possibility of locking yourself out of your wallets; it does not increase it. If I can lose two keys from my multi-sig wallet before I lose my coins, then that is safer than only being able to a lose a single key from my single-sig wallet.
The complexity of the options increases when you use more than 2-of-3, as one can be left at home, another in a safe place, and the third in the bank’s safe. Increasing more than that may complicate the process.

In a 2-of-7 you would need to lose 6 keys to lock yourself out of your wallet.

That's right, I don't know WTF what I was thinking about.
1359  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 22, 2023, 10:27:28 AM
To summarize, less than 0.1% of Atomic Wallet app users have been affected.

That wallet's hack caused to lose value cryptocurrencies worth $35 million, how does this represent less than 0.1% of Atomic Wallet app users?
After more than 18 days, they did not give a specific answer to what happened, which means that their developer team is not that experienced, or that the vulnerability is deep and they did not find a mechanism to fix it, or that either they left back doors and exploited them to steal them.

Does anyone know the list of external auditors, and if they published it, to gain a little credibility here, they should publish it
1360  Economy / Economics / Re: Connect data to accelerate cashless payments on: June 21, 2023, 08:17:41 AM
Despite the drawbacks of the monetary system and the counting of money, it enhances user privacy, and with the expansion of many banking services that encourage banks to control the lives of customers, we may witness the growth of CBDCs, banks or governments can prevent the user from even purchasing his basic needs if they decide to do so, with no pressure. You can buy or sell, and all your assets will be frozen, which is a little more difficult in the case of cash. We need cash, even if it is 30%, just as we need digital systems.

I do not wish to rush to adopt cashless payments solutions as much as preserving the privacy of currencies and providing multiple options.
