After the first innings everyone predicted this to be an easy win for India. The quick fall of wickets added more to it, and the winning probability of New Zealand was just 2% which later reached as high as 17% by the 30th over. The massive partnership of 181 runs from Williamson and Mitchell turned to be big pressure for India. After the partnership got broken, Phillips and Mitchell made 75 runs partnership. These three players kept the match lively for a long. Mohammad Shami is the real game changer, took 7 wickets and this is the highest wicket taken by a bowler in a world cup match.

Shami has been exceptional in this tournament. Historically he has performed exceptionally well in all the ODI World Cups in which he has participated. And it was just shocking to see him warming the bench during initial matches. Indian selection panel needs an urgent revision. They have mistreated many great players. And I am not just talking about Shami. Look at what happened to Ravichandran Ashwin. He deserved at least one chance and they could have included him for the match against Netherlands.

Is the US team actually prepared to win their tournament?

Historically, the home team always has an advantage. Could they use this opportunity?

I think they currently don't have players of the caliber of Landon Donovan, or Clint Dempsey. Those were probably some of the best players in the best era of US football.

But maybe I'm missing on some young talent, anyone knows some of them?

LOL.. In all probability, United States will end up just like Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, failing to win any of their group matches and failing to progress to the next phase. Anyway, their FIFA ranking is quite good and now they are ranked 11th in the table. But I don't give much importance to these rankings and don't think that they will perform well during the tournament. And right now they are the no.1 ranked team in CONCACAF confederation, even ahead of strong teams such as Mexico and Costa Rica.

Spain travel to Cyprus in the Euro 2024 qualifiers to secure their place in the next round. Spain have won five of their six qualifiers with the only defeat coming against Scotland. Spain top the points table in Group A with a total of 19 goals scored so far and +16 goal difference. Cyprus will finish bottom of the group with 0 points from their first seven matches. Has one of the worst records in Euro 2024 qualification, losing all seven so far and scoring just twice. The hosts have the worst defensive record in their group with 25 goals conceded. Spain won 6-0 at home. Despite possible changes in the XI, we can expect the same result this time as well.

Both the teams (Spain and Scotland) have already qualified for the main tournament from Group A. Remaining matches are irrelevant, at least in terms of qualification. Today Scotland will take on Georgia and Spain will take on Cyprus. In both cases, the opponents are weak but capable of upsets. The most interesting match will be on 19th November, when Scotland will take on Norway. Despite the presence of heavyweights such as Martin Ødegaard and Erling Håland, Norway once again failed to qualify for a major tournament. They will be looking for a consolation win.

Irrespective of who wins the second semi-final match, India will start as the overwhelming favorites. If they wins the toss, definitely they will bat first and set up a total in the vicinity of 400. Neither the Australian bowlers, nor those from South Africa will be able to prevent this from happening. Anyway, it will be interesting to see the match today. If Australia wins the semi-final, then it can be assured that the final match won't be very one-sided. On the other hand, if South Africa wins, then it is going to be cakewalk for India on 19th November.

I still don't understand why the Indian captain is not bringing Mohammed Shami to bowl. He has taken both the wickets to fall so far (those of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra), and so far his figures are 4-0-26-2. They need to bring Shami before the match slips out of their hand. One more wicket and India will be in very comfortable situation in this match. Right now, the Indians are sticking with Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav. This pair has failed to take any wickets, and I don't know why Rohit doesn't want to bring Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj.

21 overs remain and New Zealand needs another 210 runs to win, at exactly 10 runs per over. Win predictability states 88.40% chance for an Indian win and 11.60% chance for a New Zealand win. Daryl Mitchell is looking quite comfortable out there, but Kane Williamson looks quite rusty. Indian bowlers will be targeting to get Mitchell out, because he is the danger person right now. If New Zealand loses one more wicket, then it is all over for them. They need these two to stay there for at least 10 more over, so that Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman can take over from here.
1367  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 DISCUSSION THREAD! on: November 15, 2023, 01:35:05 PM
Shami gets the first breakthrough for the Indian team. Devon Conway is out, caught behind by KL Rahul, an excellent catch by him. They said that the seamers won't be getting a swing look at the three seamers Indian bowlers are getting. Bumrah still struggling with the line, Shiraj was doing okaish but Shami gets the first wicket. Outstanding captaincy by Rohit Sharma, he got the right bowler at the right time. What will the Indian spinners do when they come to bowl the New Zealand batters? This game is slowly going away from the control of the New Zealand team, the next wicket would be of Rachin Ravindra.

It is going to be another one-sided match. The moment India won the toss, outcome of this match was more or less certain. Among all the other teams, only Australia has the capability to defeat India at home. And most probably they will be India's opponents in the final. I am more interested in the second semi-final today, which will be played at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. It's getting really boring now. Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson are at the crease and scoring with a strike rate of around 40. Rachin has scored just 13 runs from 22 balls. And he just now got out to Mohammed Shami.
1368  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 15, 2023, 01:25:13 PM
Almost zero chance of New Zealand winning the match. They are 30/1 after 5.1 overs, with Devon Conway picked up by Mohammed Shami. Rachin Ravindra is still there and he will be joined by the captain Kane Williamson. Situation looks dire for New Zealand and they are inching closer to a very heavy defeat. Anyway this was expected, after New Zealand lost the toss and was asked to field first by India. Anyway, despite the setback at least they should be proud of the fact that they managed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Final standings position depend with head to head if Wales and Croatia have the same points, actually both teams have two matches left and Wales have closer forward opportunity qualify to EURO 2024 if can win all matches left. But little difficult opponent for Wales have Turkey on the last match and loss points will give advantage for Croatia if can win all their matches left.

Croatia have weakness opponent teams than Wales but its not guarantee with Croatian can take six points from two matches left against Latvia and Armenia. Wales have early match than Croatia and excited to see if success with three points will make Croatia on under pressure against Latvia before last match both teams will play on the same time.

Well.. in a way, you are right. I was closely checking the itinerary, and it seems like Croatia has only a slight advantage (and that too because Wales need to play against Turkey). Anyway, it will be the ultimate irony in case Wales and Turkey qualifies ahead of Croatia after the latter finished at the third position in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Anyway, we will get to know about it in less than a week from now. Both the teams will play their remaining matches on 18th November and 21st November. So we will get a clear picture either by 18th, or latest by 21st.

200 comes up for India in the 29th over, 72nd half century done for Kohli. 21 more overs left to bat, can India get to 400 runs? Possible if they start scoring at a run rate of 10 runs per over.

Bad news Shubhman Gill who was playing so good retired hurt. For now there isn't any update about his injury. He was batting very well and had scored 75 runs. He needed 25 more runs to get to his first World Cup century. It would great if he comes back and bat again.

400 looked possible around 10 overs ago, but now it is going to be somewhere around 350-400. The New Zealand spinners have done a decent job in bringing down the run-rate, but in order to win the match they need to take wickets urgently. If Shreyas Iyer remains there, then it is going to be a huge threat for the Kiwis. We have seen during the previous matches how destructive he can be during the end overs. And India has plenty of batting to come down the order, including KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.

✂✂✂✂
Yeah, one could argue that he could have played against the Dutch but again there is a counterargument, why do you want to change the winning combination in the first place?

Well... it is not about changing the winning combination. I would have expected the Indians to rest some of their bowlers. What about resting two of the bowlers and including Ravichandran Ashwin and Prasidh Krishna instead? If you check Australia's last match, they did the same. For their last group stage match (against Bangladesh), they included Sean Abbott instead of Mitchell Starc. I would say that this would have been helpful, given the fact that some of the Indian bowlers have suffered from injury issues recently (such as Jasprit Bumrah).
1372  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 15, 2023, 10:25:04 AM
^^ I think they have a pretty good and competitive team in the T-20 and plenty of young talent in the mix so it's more than enough for a short burst. Not sure if the inclusion of Shoaib Malik would be a wise decision if they green light him.

Meanwhile, BCCI and CA are playing another T-20 bilateral series just after the ODI WC, looks like an audition for IPL and 2024 WC so expecting 2nd string squads for both teams.

No surprise there. Even before the start of the ODI World Cup, both the BCCI and Cricket Australia arranged a bilateral ODI series between them and it helped both the teams to properly prepare ahead of the tournament. The timing is just around right, as the IPL is some 3-4 months away. And usually in bilateral T20I matches, both the teams usually rest most of their star players and give opportunities for the second string players. So we can expect players such as Sanju Samson, Shahbaz Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Rituraj Gaikwad to be included in the squad for this series.
1373  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 15, 2023, 10:15:05 AM
Indian team is fighting very well in batting form. Contrary team New Zealand they are not able to stop the Indian team in terms of bowling performance. Although India team lost one wicket but New Zealand could not reduce the run rate in this case. However, if this is how the Indian team continues to accumulate runs, then they will be able to collect 400 plus runs in the last minute. But the Indian team should save the wicket and collect the runs at the end, if they collect the runs then the Indian team will surely win. Because Mumbai batting first in the field has won almost all the teams but if batting towards the last the chances of winning are very less.

If New Zealand had any chances of winning this match, that vanished as soon as India won the toss and chose to bat first. Now I would consider it as an achievement for New Zealand, if they manage to keep India under a total of 400. At this point, it looks unlikely as Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are handing the Kiwi spinners (Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips) with a lot of ease. Also, the New Zealand players seems to be struggling against the high humidity levels and temperature that is prevalent at Wankhede at this point.

Edit: Shubman Gill has retired hurt. Shreyas Iyer has come to bat now.
1374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: November 15, 2023, 10:05:15 AM
There are indeed rumors like that, but I don't agree if it is true that Al-Nassr will receive an invitation to participate in the Champions League. The reason is that this will hurt the competition, which has been known for a long time to only be filled with representatives of teams from Europe and getting a place in the play-off round is very difficult for other small European teams. Of course, this is more of a privilege because Al-Nassr has Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently the top scorer of all time in the Champions League. However, if this is realized, football fans in Europe will definitely protest massively to UEFA and will not let this just happen.

Well.. I don't get it. Why should anyone protest against this move? It is going to be mutually beneficial for both the sides. Al Nassr will get to play against quality opposition in front of European fans, while UEFA will benefit from an increase in global viewership. The world has become smaller as a result of advancement in technology. Given this, I would say that UEFA is doing the right thing. Expanding the Champions League, to include teams from outside the European continent is a welcome step. If they can include Turkish and Kazakh clubs, then why not those from Saudi Arabia?

Folks are saying that it's a spin pitch but if the deck was rank turner then India would have gone with the 3 spinner and last i checked Ashwin is warming the bench.

Ravichandran Ashwin have been warming the bench ever since the tournament started. IMO, he could have been included in the playing XI at least for the match against Netherlands, but the selectors decided against it. Apparently Kohli & Co. are biased against Ashwin and irrespective of whether there is any truth in these allegations or not, I don't think that he's being treated fairly. BTW, looking at the bowling from Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner so far, I don't think that the pitch is offering any undue advantage for the spinners.
1376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 15, 2023, 09:45:24 AM
India has raced to 118/1 after 15 overs, and the run rate stands at close to 8 per over. Apart from Mitchell Santner (3-0-18-0), everyone else have conceded more than 7 runs per over. Anyway, Hotstar will be quite happy with the viewership count. The peak viewership measured at close to 3.5 crore till now, and as we enter the depth overs we can expect anything near 5 crore, which is going to be a new record. Shubman Gill has reached his half century, but from the other end Virat Kohli is playing a bit more cautiously.

And barely anyone dares to say the truth, but I agree with you. Neymar can really be fun to watch as a player, but his contribution is sometimes difficult to put into perspective. I think a world star player really leaves a gap that a club can't fill when an injury or a suspension happens. Real Madrid without Ronaldo or Barcelona without Messi during their prime were not the same clubs. PSG without Mbappe would be tough for them, but without Neymar it was ok. I really don't think Neymar is a bad player or makes no contribution at all, but the truth is that Al-Hilal is doing perfectly fine without him.

I agree that Neymar is quite talented and fun to watch. But he need to learn ethical practices and also need to know how to work as a team. Al Hilal did the right thing by deregistering him. They wasted a lot of time, effort and funds to bring him to Saudi Arabia, but in the end they were treated unfairly by the same guy on whom they put so much trust. Anyway, Neymar may be having his own plans. I don't know what are his future options. He's still young and therefore there is a good chance that he'll move back to one of the European clubs.

You phrase that India is unbeatable in this World Cup giving them confidence but I think if they fall in this concept they will lose today's match. One thing should be remember that in competition not go over confidently and this will lead you to underestimate the progress of your opponent for the match. If they go confidently to the grounds what if the new Zeland team comes with a new tactic, plan, and energy? The Indian team will lose their match. If the Indian team wants to maintain their dominance then keep going the same in this match as in the previous matches and everyone will do their 100%. yeah, I know they will qualify for this match and I am betting on India that they will win this World Cup.

Well.. we will get the answer to your questions in a few hours. The match is going to take place at the Wankhede (where Indians do have a good track record), and compared to the other semi-final, India's opponents for today are relatively weak. But they should not forget what happened during the semi-final of the 2019 world cup. That said, back then the match took place in England and Indians were not comfortable with the conditions. This time, everything is in their favor and the fans will not accept a defeat today.

Biden is definitely one of the worst things that could ever happen to America. He has done something what we call “sold his soul”. For some reason, he has unlimited money to give to Zielinski and Israel, but he does not have enough money for the people of his country. At this point, the things that we have seen him do, I actually think he doesn’t remember that he is the President of the United States. he cannot walk up the stairs, he cannot stop his bicycle properly and falls down, he doesn't know where is the podium. It’s definitely bad for America right now. But that might not be the case in the future.

I don't believe that the situation is as bad as you are claiming here, but for a lot of the voters in the United States, Biden's health is an issue. But the funny fact is that a lot of people tend to ignore the fact that Trump is not much younger than Joe Biden. Donald Trump is 77 years old as of now, and Biden is just 3 years senior to him. But the narrative that has been built is that Biden is in very poor health, while Trump is fit enough to participate in the NBA or the NFL. It is going to be a big challenge for Biden, to get around this narrative.

I'd correct it to before the England won the toss. Had Pakistan won the toss, we might have seen glorious innings from Fakhar Zaman again, because they'd surely tried to give 400+ target then.

In order for Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals, there were multiple requisites. First of all, they needed a huge score on board. In case they somehow made a total of around 400, that alone would not have guaranteed their entry the semi-finals. In order to qualify, they needed a win margin of 287 runs. That means that in case Pakistan made 400 batting first, they had to get England out for a total 113, in order to get their net run rate above that of New Zealand. Anyway, in the end none of this happened.
