1361  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I buy FPGAs from BFL anymore? on: April 10, 2013, 05:20:26 AM
They have shipped FPGAs before this AFAIK

They have shipped FPGAs in the past. No you cannot buy them from BFL any longer.
1362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [Pool] Coinotron - LTC pool RBPPS = 2% fee, only 15 confirmations !!! on: April 10, 2013, 05:09:38 AM
Yet quitting your day job remains very risky. What if all these coins go up in a cloud of smoke after you've told the boss to shove it? Tongue

I have some perspective on this. My lowly BTC mining business, started in 12/12 now has a market cap of 1040BTC, which has a whole new meaning now with BTC/USD over $230. I still can't justify quitting my day job...too risky.
1363  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: April 10, 2013, 05:07:14 AM
I wanted some community input on this just for fun:

I'm at a point where I have a 1/2oz silver coin die done that says 5 BITCOINS.  But 5 BTC is now worth a hell of a lot more than it was when I started.

I almost want to start over and do 1oz=1BTC 1/2oz=1/2BTC and a smaller coin for 0.1 BTC... all in silver, and offer each (at least the biggest one or two) with the optional gold plated B like I did last time.

Do I run some coins with the 5 BITCOINS die, or just scrap it?  It will seem kind of weird having a 5 and a 0.5 BTC coin that are, well, alike in every way, including the year 2013, and I'm tempted to just scrap the die.

I think you should scrap the old plan. Parity with Ozt silver weight is perfect.

Yeah I think it's just their web server that's been eaten, but I don't want to risk it and switched pools.

it baffles me that pool owners first thoughts aren't to come here and post what's going on when things like this happen..

It's usually a hobby for them, they cannot devote their lives to it and still eat.

1366  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL is Probably doing fine financially. on: April 10, 2013, 04:09:44 AM
A lot of speculation about how they are bleeding money and losing pre-orders right and left.  However, think about the basis of their business for a minute.  If bitcoin fails, they fail.  Wouldn't it be logical for them to make at least a modest investment in bitcoins directly if they are going to invest millions in ASIC development?

I'm guessing that BFL probably has tens of million worth of bitcoin stockpiled (remember, they were around back when BTC was a small fraction of the current price), and is in no danger at all of going under or failing due to lack of funds.

It's nothing more than speculation. Just because a handful of bitcointalk people are pulling out on orders for a few singles or even a minirig doesn't mean that there aren't many, many more whose investments are several orders of magnitudes greater than the sum of all requested refunds.

Also, we have absolutely no idea what their profit margin is like.

Please tell me you are joking. Just because one has no(unobtainable) incontrovertible evidence does *NOT* mean one must suspend their common sense.

22 employees(presumably with 22salaries) + 1 year with zero products to ship? Alleged respins, pushed back shipping dates, blown power estimates, etc...add infinity. Please use your head.

Even if you assume that every BFL employee has been given a full $50,000 annual salary, which is absolutely fucking absurd, it's less than the amount of money they've made from preorders alone. It's not even clear that all 22 of their employees are full time, forget getting paid an engineer's salary. In fact, given their inability to handle customer support and PR problems in a timely manner, let alone get their chips working, it's likely that they aren't full time. Plus, they have investors, no?

I used my head.

No clue what their 22 employees are being overpaid. Since they(BFL) acknowledge outsourcing basically everything on this project, there's no reason to have more than a couple  employees until you're ready to ship anyway. The real cost of bringing an ASIC mining product to market is designing and fabbing the chips, which is massively front end loaded. BFL claims that they've redesigned their chips 2x already, the current failed chips are their third attempt...if what they say is to be believed. They've flown in two Bitcoin community members(one from Australia) to tour their facility and given them private airplane rides. They've ordered huge numbers of products to assemble products they're no longer selling(boxes of fans). They've rented, reconfigured, and refurnished their current facilities. They've ordered and apparently received reflow ovens and pick and place machines. They've done all this and more in the last year all without having any actual products to sell. The unproven claims of VC funding are dubious at best as anyone that knows anything about organized VC knows those guys don't tend to simply write blank checks and then walk away.

Oh and btw BFL claims they're not using any of their pre-order funds to fund development of their ASICs.
1367  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: April 10, 2013, 02:28:16 AM

That's a confirmed drop of the global repayment rate of 1.4% in ONLY NINE DAYS

URGENT: PLEASE STOP FUNDING UNSECURED BTCJAM LOANS. YOU WILL ALMOST SURELY LOSE YOUR COINS.

The people that are taking out these loans may or may not be intending to scam, but they cannot repay the loans if they have to convert fiat with the exchange rate going up multiple hundreds of percent.

Perhaps one may think that at this all time high the best thing to do is to actually take out a loan and repay after a "probable" price correction.

This 20x increase in price is affecting older loans, our average loan has a very short term.

ps: In addition to secured loans you can also invest in mtgoxusd or mtgoxeur referenced loans.

The warnings on your website are woefully insufficient. It may not occur to many lenders just how low the chances of being repaid has become with the exchange rate rising so sharply. The exchange rate is $235 as I type this, any predictions on how much further you project the global repayment rate to fall in the next two weeks if this remains the same or continues to rise?

LMAO if you didn't realize that at $20 or even $15, then you deserve not to get paid. I like how new warnings need to be created as the price raises LOL

-1

Many lenders will fail to consider this. They will simply seek borrowers that seem honorable and those borrowers that are honorable or were honorable in the past will simply have no way whatsoever to repay their loans because they cannot earn or borrow enough fiat to repay their loans anymore. This situation would've been fine had BTC remained in the double digits, but at over $200 this will effect every borrower that lacks the ability to mine the coins needed to repay their debt...or borrow the coins from someone else to repay their btcjam loan.

PS: just ignore nathanrees19... he's just a BFL fan boi Wink

You realise that I'm flat out calling them stupid, right?

I think the chances of you being so stupid that you actually believe what you're saying in this thread is < 0%. Therefore I'm putting you on ignore.
1370  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Timeline - illustrated on: April 10, 2013, 01:14:42 AM
Not incompetence. Fraud. That's the point.
1371  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Timeline - illustrated on: April 10, 2013, 12:52:26 AM
Hopefully some thieves

Shipping late is theft? I better go change the legislation.

Holy crap dude really? You still think they're *JUST* incompetent?

Please explain to me how there was ever a > 0% chance of any ASIC mining products leaving Butterfly Labs during 2012. Then explain to me how BFL staff could have possibly failed to recognize this fact for months while they continuously told pre-order victims that they'd "scheduled shipments" x number of days or weeks in the future. Then there's the official "honest abe" faq that said they'd ship in October of 2012. Roll Eyes

Get laid or something, K? Thanks.

Regularly, yes, thanks for checking. I think if you check around you'll find most people dislike being misquoted...sunshine.

I asked you nicely.
1373  Economy / Speculation / Re: $236 - What BS - Selling OUT today! on: April 10, 2013, 12:25:04 AM
I can't understand why anyone would ever sell out completely. If you think it's a bubble sell a few of your coins here and there or better yet buy something with them. Even if it's a more time tested proven store of value that's not denominated in fiat...ie gold and silver.

Fiat is garbage, the only good reason to exchange your precious cryptos for fiat garbage is if you have to pay bills/eat.
1374  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 10, 2013, 12:09:59 AM

Or as we bitcointalk.org vets call him...JZ or lying sack of crap scammer. All in good fun of course. Grin

Anyone that thinks that last nickname is unearned should see this thread:

Love the products and prices so I recently placed my first order with you guys. Everything has gone smoothly(bitpay rox), however I've not received any tracking information on my order which is listed as shipped. I've requested clarification via email, but received no response, so I'm a little confused as to what's going on with my order. USPS tracking sux, but it at least provides some information. Without even this information I have no idea whatsoever when to expect a package of not insignificant value to arrive at my door.

Where/When did you send the email? We respond to all emails within 24 business hours. If you have not received a response, please send an email to info@amagimetals.com. Thank you for your business!

Done. Thanks!

I used the contact link on your website yesterday to send.

Edit: Reply email received.

Not shipped yet, but listed as shipped days ago. I don't care for that at all. Undecided
1376  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement - ASIC mining processor by Butterfly Labs on: April 09, 2013, 11:29:45 PM
So many scams vendors ...so little time.

Yes, most scammers vendors are posting too much text, videos and images! Just provide us with your BTC addresses, we have no time to lose - time is money!  Grin

Please don't modify my words and pretend as though you're quoting me. K? Thanks.
1377  Economy / Speculation / Re: why I sold my bitcoins.... on: April 09, 2013, 10:59:36 PM
I began using coins for relatively small purchases when the BTC/USD exchange rate was around $74. At first I felt bad about the BTC/USD exchange rate rising after every purchase, but not any longer. I simply space my purchases and enjoy whatever I buy with them. We're building an alternate economy here and Bitcoin is our currency. Currency should be more than a store of wealth IMO. Anyway, trading any crypto for fiat is a horrible idea unless you absolutely must to keep a roof over your head and bread on your table.
1378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC at $220, altcoins crashing. Where are your AltGods now? on: April 09, 2013, 10:22:43 PM
This whole thread is such massive fail. Altcoin price is generally measured vs the big daddy coin, so obviously when BTC/fiat exchange rates go up alt coin price appears to drop. The truly viable alt coins will do as they've done each time BTC price has corrected upward sharply, they will catch up given time.

Give it some time, you'll see how wrong you were. Before that, put all wealth into altcoins, so that lession hit you with extra payload.

How much time mr. wizard? Say another month like the last month of massive BTC/USD exchange rate hikes?

For those following along at home that's .0075 - .02199 in 1 month. An increase in LTC/BTC value of .01449 or 193.2% at this moment. Please consider the OP's perspective to be worth precisely what you paid for it...or possibly less.

Bitcoin has done AWESOME during that month. Definitely one of the best investments in the world. There's at least one thing that's done better however. LITECOIN HAS KICKED BTC's ASS in the last 30 days.

WOW. Stales are now under 3% for me. Awesome sauce burnside! Great work!

What cards/miners/config are you running?

A hodge + podge assortment of cards + CGMiner.

MSI 6950@6970
Powercolor 6870
HIS 5830
Asus 6850
Sapphire 6770 #1
Sapphire 6770 #2
Sapphire 7770 #1
Sapphire 7770 #2

Note: As soon as I posted that 3% stale rate above my stale rate rose to around 7%. I should've shut up, but still happy.
