1361  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: hashing24.com ?? on: October 30, 2016, 04:30:31 PM
I watched this promotional video that Op posted. There is nothing serious presented there, no single fact about this company, only a bunch of buzzwords and empty promises.
No wonder it has far more dislikes that likes, people are feeling this too. Honestly at this point I wouldn't touch anything related to cloud mining anymore. Scam possibility is too much with this type of investment, why risk it?

After showing it to some friends , they told me It's probably HashOcean under a new name just like BiteMiner.com ... It's probably safer to avoid this guys , I first though they are related with Bitfury as there ads over the web mention "Bitfury service provider" but seems like It's not so I contacted Bitfury and waiting for their reply.
1362  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Running Electrum through the WINDOWS command prompt on: October 30, 2016, 02:59:14 PM
first write the seed down just in case. then download the latest windows installer version from electrum.org and run it. the new version will pick up your wallet just fine and you won't need to restore anything from seed.

then try `electrum.exe help`.

I couldn't do that until now so sorry for the delay in the answer. I tried what you mentioned and It's still not working , I will contact Thomas and see If he could help me out.

This may not be so relevant to your questions but there is a Console tab when you open Electrum where you can type in commands such as help() which brings up the list of all commands you can use:

Quote
List of commands: check_seed, contacts, create, createmultisig, createrawtransaction, decoderawtransaction, decrypt, deseed, dumpprivkeys, encrypt, freeze, getaddressbalance, getaddresshistory, getaddressunspent, getbalance, getconfig, getmpk, getprivatekeys, getproof, getpubkeys, getrawtransaction, getseed, getservers, getutxoaddress, getversion, help, history, importprivkey, ismine, listaddresses, listunspent, make_seed, mksendmanytx, mktx, password, payto, paytomany, restore, searchcontacts, sendrawtransaction, setconfig, setlabel, signmessage, signtxwithkey, signtxwithwallet, sweep, unfreeze, validateaddress, verifymessage

and then you can use each of these inside that Console.

I tried that as well but I'm getting SyntaxError: invalid syntax each time I write something on the console tab . (I tried different combinations like I did with command lines)

A strong earthquake has struck near Norcia in central Italy, destroying numerous buildings.
It comes nearly two months after a major earthquake killed almost 300 people and destroyed several towns.

Keep in mind that the earthquake happened like two hours ago and only a few people were hurt and no deaths were reported yet.

1365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Enable HD wallet on: October 30, 2016, 07:53:37 AM
  • Go to the "Receive" tab in the application.
  • Click the "Request payment" button.
  • Receive new address.

The "Receiving addresses" window that is found under the "File" menu is just a list of the addresses that you have requested so far.  You won't get a new one until you request it.

Understood (It's working fine) , and do I need to make backups as usual or all addresses are derived from one private key only ?
1366  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which sites have leveraged or derivatives trading? on: October 29, 2016, 04:08:20 PM
With bitfinex gone now which major sites and exchanges left have leveraged trading, future, or options contracts, etc?

Since Bitfinex got hacked and a lot of people left them , Poloniex is taking the lead : https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/ (with +40 million dollar in 24 hours ) .
1367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Enable HD wallet on: October 29, 2016, 03:29:09 PM
New wallets are HD by default. You cannot convert a non-HD wallet to an HD wallet.

You have to create the bitcoin.conf file by yourself. It isn't automatically generated.

are you sure man ? then how come each time I got to the receiving addresses in the menu , I find the same addresses and I can create new ones myself , aren't HD wallets supposed to create a new address for you each time you want to receive ?
1368  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] COINSBANK.COM launches Universal Crypto Solution at Money2020 Europe on: October 29, 2016, 03:08:19 PM
I'm not sure what's going on but It doesn't sound too good right now ...
I tried to login and no SMS were sent to my phone (while I was always able to receive) , I bypassed that by trying to call a couple of times , now I'm connected into my account and I try to withdraw , It doesn't matter how much the account I put , It keep saying "Check available sum for withdrawal" and on the bottom "Validation failed" ... also , which is the weirdest , there is "so small amounts" being deducted from my account each time I click the withdraw button ..
1369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Enable HD wallet on: October 29, 2016, 02:34:04 PM
I tried two options and I can't seem to get them working , the first is giving me back Method not found (code -32601) when I use "usehd" in the debug window and as for the second I can't find the Bitcoin.conf , I searched and I found that It should be in the AppData but I can't find anything there and It doesn't get auto generated either.  (bitcoin-qt 0.13.1)

1370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin accepted in over 10.000 Swiss locations on: October 29, 2016, 02:08:57 PM
I was just reading this in cointelegraph a few minutes ago , great news ! Swiss was also the first country in the world to have a city where you can pay for public services with Bitcoin (according to CT) . I guess services accepting bitcoin is no longer an issue as they are accepting BTC one after the other , once SegWit and Lightning network are out , Bitcoin would be unstoppable.
1371  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How to create "Bitcoin Price Index" as well as "Bitcoin Price Ticker"? on: October 29, 2016, 10:16:09 AM
Options here are endless as you could get the price using the blockchain.info API (or from exchanges) and do the rest yourself . CoinDesk however , gives you the ability to embeed their Bitcoin Price Ticker Widget and also have an API for their Bitcoin Price Index , as for Coinmarketcap , It's also possible to use their API and get access to whatever you see in their website (there is a lot of parameters so see what fits you and use it).
1372  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Impossible to access Bitcoin websites on: October 29, 2016, 08:29:47 AM
I already said that It has nothing to do with the browser so I'm not sure why people keep repeating the same thing and I also said that I tried a proxy and It worked fine (same with Tor Browser) but the issue here is that everything is slow.
Anyway, everything seem to be working just fine right now (as radhwane mentioned above), Issue was in the whole country and not only my connection or my browser (as I tried in different browsers , different PCs and operating systems too) , It wasn't only Bitcoin websites as I thought after all , It seems like some people had issues with agar.io , Slither.io and others too. my ISP is called Algérie Télécome btw.
1373  Other / Politics & Society / FBI Review Raises Clinton's Email Issue as Election Nears on: October 29, 2016, 07:51:15 AM
Hilary Clinton is winding down her campaign the same way she ramped it up, with a press conference about her emails.

Clinton has come a long way since she first had to address the brewing controversy over her private email server the month before she launched her campaign, in 2015, from inside the lobby of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

But 20 months, 50 primaries and caucuses, and three debates with Donald Trump later, Clinton had to once again go before the cameras to defend her emails, this time just 11 days from the finish line.

Full story from NBCnews : http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/fbi-probe-revives-clinton-s-email-issue-election-nears-n674946

She is basically asking the FBI to release everything and for some reasons I think they won't find anything (or there is something) but simply nothing will be released. If she stated this then she knows for sure what they have or haven't.
1374  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Starting to mine on: October 29, 2016, 07:08:44 AM
Opening a mining farm requires a considerable amount of capital up front.  Not only do you need the hardware, but you also need a space to run it.  You need enough power at a very reasonable cost to drive it.  You need cooling, cabling, shelves, switches, routers, etc.  You also need people... electricians to wire things, HVAC to cool things, contractors to build things...

Mining isn't a "get rich quick" scheme.  It is a game of margins, especially when you're dealing with scaling to a "farm".  The hobbyist miner (i.e. someone who's got a few pieces of hardware around the house or in the garage/basement) might be able to offset some of the costs a little easier.  For example, using the heat produced by the miners to supplement their winter heating costs.  It's a heck of a lot easier to swallow losses when all you've dropped is a couple thousand bucks.

I guess you guys got a point , It's simply that I got excited when I saw that some people are earning thousands/millions of of dollars , It could me some take but I want to know how much It could cost approximately (saying It costs 1m dollar to earn x $ monthly) , I want to set some goals so I start once I'm ready.
1375  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Starting to mine on: October 28, 2016, 06:46:00 PM

It's more expensive then what I thought, do you have an idea about how much of those should I run before being able to make decent profit monthly ? I remember seeing a calculator for all this stuff but I can't find it anymore.
I still don't understand how mining farms are making profit while normal people can't since It's the same hardware ?

if your power cost is 0.05 cents per kwatt and you get a 50% discount on that to 2.5 cents per k-watt it should be possible to turn a profit.

first what is your country?
second how much of this 2.5 cent power will you get?
third can you cool the gear?
fourth can you handle the noise?

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

here are some examples of four s7's  vs 1 s9 new

keep in mind s9's break a lot  and if it breaks you could go to zero income.
while s7's are more durable and if 1 of the 4 break you still earn coin.    a point for s7's if you have 2.5 cent power

on the other side th s9 will pull 1400 watts
the s7 will pull 5200 watts ----- a point for the s9 setup

in both cases in 1 year if your power is 2.5 cents  you should profit.

risks are

btc price drops
gear breaks

first off four used s-7's and some dps-2000 psu's  will run you  around 1700 usd  1 new s9 with a psu will run you about 1800
four s7's with psu's costing 1700 using 5200 watts
~ snip img

1 s9 with 1 psu costing 1800 using 1400 watts
~ snip img

I have no problem when It comes to the noise but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to cool it , is there is any machines for that ?
I really want to know how much It costs to open a mining farm + how much the monthly earnings that could be made from it ? I'm sure the earnings between those who mine in their houses and in a mining are incomparable , If opening a mining farm worth it , I may really consider doing it.
1376  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Impossible to access Bitcoin websites on: October 28, 2016, 04:15:00 PM
Glad you got that sorted out??. lol.  Huh
Was bewildered since you were quite adamant it was the government banning/blocking those sites.
And as far as I know, there is currently no government who has taken such drastic steps to ban anything bitcoin related to that extent.Yet.
Anyway, turns out, just like previously suggested by others, it's an issue with the service connection.

I'm throwing accusations against the government because the ISP is controlled by them , we don't have private ISPs here so saying that this is only an service connection issue doesn't make much sense when It targets most of the known Bitcoin websites only.

Does http://btcads.org work for you?

It does but I guess this is due the fact that the website is new (A-ads for example is not working)
1377  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Impossible to access Bitcoin websites on: October 28, 2016, 02:58:39 PM
You can probably confirm whether or not those sites are actually blocked/banned by your government. Just try asking your internet service provider. They should be able to clear that up for you. Is bitcoin illegal in your country by the way?

And yep, same as the others, the only reason I sometimes can't access some of those sites is when there are problems with my connection or a problem with the site.

Anyway, again, I suggest confirming with your service provider. They should know if a site is blocked/banned/illegal. It's always better to be sure. Can't just assume things.

Most of people don't even know what bitcoin is here so I don't see how It could get banned , It's not ... as far as I know. I think there is no need to ask my ISP as I just checked a forum (of my country) and It seems like some people are having the same issue and others are others who are able to access it just fine (from different states) so probably an issue of location. I also checked the newspaper and there is nothing about it being banned or blocked.

I'm not sure what the hell is going on here but I can't access most of Bitcoin websites , website that I have tried so far are Blockchain.info , Coinmarketcap.com , BTC.com , Blocktrail.com , Poloniex.com  , Kraken , Wirexapp , CoinsBank , Bitmixer.io  and the list goes longer ...

Firefox keep giving me the following error : The connection has timed out , The server at Poloniex.com is taking too long to respond. (All websites)
I always get the same error when I am having a slow internet connection.
Have you tried restarting your router or whatever your internet device is.
Bitcointalk.org does not require too mh data so you will be able to access it without any problem but id it is the sites that you mentiones it requires a better internet speed.

no it not about internet speed some times i got very slow internet connection but i can access to any site that mention above
i'm sure that governments start banning sites related to bitcoin this problem happen today
i resolve my problem with VPN

@radhwane, maybe for now continue using VPN to access those sites. Try it again tomorrow or any other day without VPN just so you know if it's really the government banning it or not. I have the same opinion with jaceefrost because I'm also having this problem only when my connection is slow and it's not limited to bitcoin related sites, sometimes even on a Google sheet with lots of data.

@MadGamer & @SportbetMaster if you can't access any website using any browser, then it might be the connection indeed. I tried to visit some of the sites' that have been mentioned and it's working fine here.

Huh I'm a little bit curious on why several users are experiencing the same problem.

I tried to use a proxy (Kproxy.com) as stated above and It's working fine and same thing goes with using an VPN but things are so slow so I assume that the government did indeed block the website , and no It has nothing to do with the internet speed as I can play some games without even lagging.

And I will assume you can access bitcointalk.org since you just posted here, first of all try those sites on other browsers such as Google Chrome etc. If it loads on other websites then that's a Firefox problem.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can

For me, if the site works on other sites but not Firefox, try to refresh Firefox at HELP tab and see how it goes.

I tried refreshing Firefox and that didn't do anything and I also tried visiting the mentioned websites in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome but I wasn't able to access them either , only way I could access them is by using an online proxy : https://kproxy.com/ so not sure whats causing this

me too i have the same problem i cant access to blockchain.info , spectrocoin, e-coin ..... except bitcointalk.org i try it from google chrome but the same problem but when i use VPN with USA IP i can access without any problems
governments start banning this sites in our country ? what's going on ?!

From what country are you ? If you are from the same country as me then It would be make sense..
