13641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockfolio Updated Itself? on: November 05, 2018, 05:13:02 AM
Any way to use the old blockfolio?

If you're using an Android device, your only option here is probably to find an old and untampered version .apk of Blockfolio, probably through Aptoide or something; which is something I really don't suggest as .apks online could potentially be maliciously modified by the uploader.

My suggestion would be mail them about the issues instead: support@blockfolio.com ; as with the old UI? I doubt you could get them to revert to the old design.
13642  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can I still get wealthy through Bitcoin? on: November 05, 2018, 04:51:06 AM
To answer your topic title, theoretically? Definitely. Though it completely depends on Bitcoin's success, and also depends on how long you're willing to wait.

Is the prediction of bitcoin's strong future coming true within the next few years?
No one knows. It could be a few years; it could be just a few decades. It could be in 50+ years(though I doubt it). Also, there's also a chance that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general could just simply fail overall. So also take that into consideration.
13643  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How do I open my Electrum wallet? on: November 05, 2018, 04:42:15 AM
I personally have never used an OSX device, but doesn't OSX have a sort of default download location folder? Because chances are that your downloaded .dmg executable would be in that folder.

Also, doesn't OSX have a right click "Open file location" option after searching a certain file? Similar to a certain feature on windows.

13644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you keep your data on cloud, like AWS s3 on: November 05, 2018, 04:14:55 AM
i wouldn't do that if i were you.
any sensitive information that you have is best stored offline and better stored as a hard copy (like on paper). it is not just about the provider having access to your data but also hackers being able to get in even if the possibility is very small.

you can buy some sort of storage hardware (USB disk, portable hard drive,...) and then store it there. or if possible (like for private keys) print them on paper.

if you don't have any other option and still insist on storing it on the "cloud" then at least encrypt the data using a strong encryption with a strong password then store the encrypted data on the cloud.

This.

Online login credentials? Use password managers like KeePass2[1]; remember to always use a very secure master password.

Private keys? Pen and paper, keep it simple. Or if you think you're tech savvy enough, you can create an air gapped device.

And yes, I'm quite suire that the cloud providers can access the data stored on your AWS.

I have a decent list of sites in a website I made whereas you can spend your bitcoin: https://coinsources.io/#spend_your_bitcoin

That's impressive!  I had no idea such a compendium existed.  Thanks!

Thanks! Means a lot. The total list is still quite small though. Working on increasing it further to be more sort of "complete". I'm currently still looking for more suggestions on what specific articles to add on the "Getting started" section.

13647  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Binance market domination bad for crypto? on: November 04, 2018, 03:59:11 PM
Yes. It's heavily concerning in my opinion. Majority of exchange funds on one exchange. Imagine Binance getting hacked! It's going to be MtGox all over again. The trust that people have with Binance right now is probably the same level of trust people had with MtGox in the past.

  • Market domination leads to unethical behaviour. Binance can make or brake coins. If we want to move forward, we don't want that kind of dominance. We want the market to make decisions, not Binance
Definitely. I think Binance is doing really good so far though. But Binance is doing too good that it makes me really skeptical.

  • If you'll pay, you'll get listed. That's not good. We want good projects to be listed, not the ones that pay the most. At least Binance should be transparant about the projects they listed because of quality and the ones they listed because they paid for it.
While paying sucks, well it's their exchange anyway. They can do pretty much almost anything they want. There has been a lot of discussions about this, and Binance claims that they donate 100% of the listing fees to charities. If this is true, then I'm completely fine with listing fees.

  • We once started this crypto-thing because we where sick and tired of banks and governments tell us what to and what not to do. Now it almost seems it's not the banks, but Binance determing what is happening in the market nowadays. And that's against the philosophy of crypto in general.
How is Binance determining what is happening to the markets though? Besides the coin/token listings and insider trading(while significant, it's not like they control the markets entirely). They did really great, hence why they're the #1 exchange right now; and they completely deserve it in my opinion.

  • Binance is starting to become a little bit lazy. We need them, because the platform has so much volume. But to be honest, I don't think it's a really great platform. For example, I miss a lot of trading options. They are not developing the platform at high speed. And that's a bad thing, because we are all stuck at Binance. And in fact now they are slowing down the development of crypto trading.
You can freely use other exchanges. It's not like you're forced to use Binance. And I'm pretty sure they're busy right now, as they're still developing the Binance DEX. Not sure about you, but I never had any problems with Binance. No KYC too! But then again, they're doing so good that it makes me skeptical.
13648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: any early bitcoin adopter here? What's your opinion about the long bear market? on: November 03, 2018, 04:33:07 PM
Not an early adopter(became interested in Bitcoin on late 2016). But simply by just taking a look at the past charts, you can see that bitcoin has had longer bear markets in the past(November 2013 - January 2015).

Where are we heading price wise? No one knows, and I'm pretty sure the early adopters don't know either. One thing's for sure: If you're passionate and really are positive and confident on bitcoin, then simply hold.
13649  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has anyone ever bought bitcoin on this site? on: November 03, 2018, 02:01:03 AM
Honestly if I were to buy some bitcoins online, I wouldn't risk using sites that are less known and sites that I'm really skeptical of. Why not stick to the reliable and reputable bitcoin <-> fiat exchanges like Coinbase[1], Abra[2], or LocalBitcoins[3] instead?

Though it looks like the site is being widely used in Tunisia(whatever country that is).

Where did you learn that 2019 will have a "bad year for bitcoin"? and where did you learn that bitcoin will be bullish in 2020? Through your crystal ball?
13651  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Spotting a scam ICO on: November 02, 2018, 03:09:21 PM
Spotting a scam ico is quite a hard task because the fact remains that an ico might pass all the test and still come out to be a scam project.
True. Though it's really easy to filter out the obvious ones. Sometimes a quick look on the project's website or knowing the use-case of the project is enough to determine if it's a scam. But then again, it's almost impossible to know 100% sure if a project is a scam or not. Some even put on the legitimate names of the CEO and the team, and still end up a scam in the end.

So the most trusted strategy is to follow project manager with a good reputation
The best strategy is to not "invest" or gamble in ICOs at all.

13653  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Mga Tips Ni Crypto Jhin Para Makakuha Nang Merits ;D on: November 02, 2018, 02:24:04 PM

13655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should we be happy or stay alert because of some foul play? on: November 02, 2018, 10:52:29 AM
Both. Be happy that they're acknowledging blockchain technology, and at the same time be alert and skeptical on what their true motives are(not only with banks and the government, but with centralized entities in general). Just like with the recent news with Mastercard, whereas they issued a patent for them to artificially inflate the supply of bitcoin to 210 million BTC. Like what the hell LOL.

13656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Spotting a scam ICO on: November 02, 2018, 10:01:47 AM
Can we then conclude not to invest on ICO then to avoid being scammed? I think that's the only weapon against them, don't be foolish in believing that investing in ICO will yield good returns. Well, there are exceptions, but majority are really out there to scam unsuspecting victims. If you're into investing then you might as well go to a established coin like Bitcoin, simply as that.

This. Wonder why scammers are still creating scam ICOs? Because people are still throwing money at them for some reason. It's as if it's like people enjoy getting scammed. I thought after the cryptocurrency markets crashed that people would finally stop gambling with ICOs, but that doesn't seem the case. I honestly don't get it; as if "investing" in bitcoin wasn't risky enough.
13657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is cryptocurrency helping spread child sexual abuse? on: November 02, 2018, 09:45:59 AM
While those sickos can definitely take advantage of the pseudo-anonymous characteristic of cryptocurrencies, are cryptocurrencies actually helping spread child sexual abuse through cybersex, etc? I don't think so. It does probably make it easier for them to collect payments, but without cryptocurrencies, would they stop? I don't think so. They're just going to look for another alternative.

See, no matter what technology, criminals and sickos can always take advantage of them. Cars can be used for getaway vehicles for thieves. Mobile phones can be used to detonate bombs and such. Guns for murdering. The list goes on.
13658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Show kindness on: November 02, 2018, 03:19:43 AM
I was wondering do I need more merits every time I wish to increase my rank and also for buying or investing in coins? just need help.

No. You don't. Bitcointalk isn't sort of like a central foreign exchange that you need certain requirements to be able to "invest". To buy some coins/tokens, all you need is money of course, and probably some personal identification documents to submit to the exchange, depending on what country you're on and on what exchange you're using.

Please study and do research before putting your money into cryptocurrencies, as it would really be unwise to throw money into things that you don't understand.

13659  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC Prices Predicting Software on: November 02, 2018, 03:13:16 AM
Think about it clearly. How can a software algorithm predict prices? How could they take into consideration human emotion aspect? I think what you're looking for is a fortune teller.

It's a totally pointless software as are the so many tradinging signal bots
Also, don't go this route.
13660  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bots, AI Bots or signals? on: November 02, 2018, 01:01:31 AM
Hello, I would like to start trading, I am not expert, so maybe the best what I can do is to buy bots which will trade for me.
Do you have some good experience with some bots? Could you kindly recommend me some? Are there some fully automatic trading bots that are trading and earning without any knowledge?
There are definitely bots that trade on their own without any input from the trader. But are they consistent and stable in terms of profit? Most likely not the case. Some good traders just use bots to automate a good amount of their work, but it doesn't mean they just turn on the bot and sit around watching movies with a bag of Doritos. The good ones frequently update their bot's algorithm to do better, depending on a lot of circumstances.

And what about signals? I thought someone here, who is selling signals from 400 channels.
If you want to waste your money, then sure.
Are you 100% sure?
Maybe I will stop thinking about buying signals, a lot of people here have a negative opinion about that.
Thank you for your opinions guys!

Think about it. Would people be giving out "signals" if there's nothing up for them? They're pretty much there to only make money off you.

You want to do trading, learn technical analysis. There's no other way around it. Or maybe you want to play roulette instead by gambling on random crapcoins.
