There is no need to purchase a hardware wallet until your portfolio reaches a value that needs extra protection. If you only have 100$ worth of BTCs it makes no sense to invest in a hardware wallet that also costs around $100. Wait until it is worth it and if you cant/dont want to invest in a hardware wallet you will be fine using a desktop wallet, just make sure you are in possession of your private keys and keep them safe. DO NOT use a PC/laptop that is full with pirated software, torrents, porn, non existing or low quality security from viruses and malware and dont use it for the mentioned activities. Most importantly, use common sense, dont click on email links and everything you find on social media, internet, ads etc. Hackers are targeting crypto currency wallet software more and more every day.

You might have more luck moving your thread to the altcoin section. This is for Bitcoin related projects and not for altcoins and tokens.

Anyways much more details will be needed from the OP's side if there is any chance for us to help you. A lot of information is lacking...

Here is the thread about "bronze member":
It is called Copper membership or copper member, not bronze or silver member. @McOwen95You are singling out Newbies and J. Members in your question but the rules are the same for all members no matter the rank. Research the project you want to participate in, if something seems fishy or off, give it up, report it or look elsewhere. In general it is a good idea to avoid projects promising you big profits, 300-500% profit a year and stuff like that is usually just a waste of time.

Finding money and not giving it back to the owner or to the police is considered as theft in various countries. Today there was a report about a Romanian man who bought a cabinet and inside of it he found a hidden box with approximately €59.000 if I remember correctly. The report was on a German channel and a lawyer explained that in Germany, if you buy an item from someone and find money inside, you have to give it back. Otherwise you could get a hefty fine and even go to prison. You are also entitled to a 5-10% reward depending of the amount found. If you give the money to the authorities and nobody comes forward to claim the money after X amount of days - the money will be yours.

It might seem silly but check if you are not misspelling the letter O instead of the number 0 or vice verse.

I think I used Winrar but I'm not sure, it was a long time ago ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) OK, so you put the wallet.dat file together with pictures and/or MP3 files and made an archive of those files, correct? Did you change the name of the wallet.dat file? Did you change the extension to something else other than .dat? Did you change the icon of the file? And also tell us when you say that there are 12gb of data, is that the size of the whole disk/partition where you think the wallet.dat is located or is that the size of all the archives you have there, or music files, pictures? Can it be narrowed down?
|
|
|
When you say that you hid the wallet.dat in a file what exactly do you mean? Did you put it in an archive together with pictures, MP3 files, used an icon changer to change its appearance and used winrar to archive it? Give me some more info please. EDIT: or you could use backtrack and just go through the files that you created in that time frame when you hid the file. For example if you know that the wallet.dat was hidden before NOV 2013 but not earlier than JUL 2013 - search through the files created in those months. You might remember where you hid it. Take a look at this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqWZBbLsCG8

Using these centralized services would be even worse then putting seed words in your will, as OP mentioned.
The information/seed can be encrypted and the people who will receive the email would already have a way to decrypt the message but they would need the email to do so.

A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. The whole point of Bitcoin is to take the power away from financial institutions and give it to the people and now a "bank" wants to centralise the ecosystem?! But I think ways of transacting with bitcoin must be unified and made very easy for everyone, even for dumb people, even for those who know nothing about bitcoin and how it works, otherwise it will never be mass adopted.
This last part is the most important thing. Lets be honest. Using bitcoin, wallets, blockchains, exchanges isn't easy if you dont have sufficient knowledge about the technology. If Bitcoin is to become mass adopted two things need to change: 1. Paying with Bitcoin needs to be easy, hassle free and understandable for a 75 year old pensioner as well as a 12 year old kid looking to buy a candy bar. At the moment that is not the case. I would be interested in seeing a study done on senior citizens and how many of them know of and/or have used Bitcoin in their life. 2. The fees for Bitcoin transactions need to be close to 0 for micro-transactions as well as bigger transactions. Although they are low now they need to be even lower if Bitcoin is to win the fight against fiat currencies. If you purchase something for $5 that is it - you hand over the bill, take the item and leave. When you purchase with BTC you dont just pay $5. You also pay the minning/wallet fees + end up waiting for the transaction to confirm. Bitcoin is still in early development even though it has been here for years but I hope the above things can change. I hope that one day we can wake up in a world where our parents and children use Bitcoin but at the moment that is still a dream as it is too complicated for them.

I dont think you would be able to do that without admin privileges or copy of the database. I was able to find this thread, it is pretty old but maybe some of the suggestions might help you further. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2091629Edit: Just noticed SFR10's reply so it seems that theymos did create a feature to do exactly that.

It could be useful for people accepting 100s of transactions per day like coffee shops, private businesses, donations etc. You might need to check the amount you received for a particular month to pay taxes for example.
