I believe that if we want to see mass adoption , we need to change the name. DarkCoin is a nice name, but people will associate dark with illegal or otherwise questionable activities. This will preclude adoption on the scale of Bitcoin.
NO WAY ! the coin is out, on markets all over …. no way you can change the name now ! It will only confuse everybody involved !! Darkcoin is a great name … there is nothing wrong with it and changing something so significant (as a name) after a launch is the most unprofessional idea EVER ! sorry, but i think we have other things to take care off (as the next test and such) …. no way to go all the way back and change the name + all webpages + all exchanges …. Lets just roll with what we got here, a great coin with a great name just getting through a couple of bumps and then we are back up and rolling high …>> The drugs that you're having? I want some. LOL, but seriously, I think he has a point. Thing is, we went through all this only a short while ago when the name was changed in the first place. We can't make everyone happy, they made a decision and now we're on everyone's radar. I don't think we could go through another name change without a mess. |

From trivial things, like wallets having problems, or to more serious issues like network forking or coin multiplication bugs (?) - I have no idea how the code works, so, I'm just asking to see if the added functionality can introduce problems. If not, then beta here we come  Yes, well there we're at the mercy of our developer. Lets hope he knows that the coins will be safe!  |

DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying:
"DarkCoin is digital cash."
+1 But that's why I think its better to call it D-coin or something else (not related to dark) New people will think that darkcoin is related to illegal things and thats not the intention, idea of it. Maybe it will scare/put off (I don't know the right word) some people...No? I tend to agree with this. The name itself will be the reason darkcoin is never widely accepted by, er, "normal" people (also can't think of the right word sorry). It doesn't matter how great it is, give it a shady or evil sounding name and it's doomed. The name is irrelevant, Bitcoin was not adopted because its name but more so because of libertarian values and adopters/enthusiasts being aware of what is going on the economy/banking. If dark can provide anonymous "dark" transactions it could be called purple unicorn coins for all I care.. Dark is good branding for people in the know ie tor darknet stuff. If joe blow isn't aware of what dark means he will soon enough.. with every Snowden leak or bullshit passed law/corrupt lawless judge's decision is making people more aware. It is like built in marketing because we all know what governments agenda is just like how cypress bumped up bitcoin. I could give 2 shits about branding and market cap. Freedom is where it's at, make a coin that facilitates free commerce even silk road style commerce that bypasses bullshit laws and market cap & awareness will take care of itself. Makes me wonder why people are here promoting an anonymous coin if they care about mainstream perceptions.. perhaps cat coin is the better choice for them. +5000 We live in a disgusting tyrannical era of financial enslavement. Period. I just wish bitcoin had ZERO value/tradeability for fiat as it is, these scumbags will just run the printing press and corner us that way. I *think* bring the thread concurrency up until it doesn't want to start, then bring the intensity up. There you have to find a balance. Watch your output for invalids and also, I've found that just because my miner says I'm mining at a certain rate, my rate on my pool's website (plug in Lotterypool here, LOL) shows lower if my intensity is too high, or higher if my intensity is just right! The hashing algorithm seems to have a different effect on the settings than scrypt! |

To be honest I don't see why the word "Dark" has to be relative to criminal activity... I'd say it's more relative to the anonymous aspect of the coin. The blockchain is in the dark, transactions made in darkness. Darkness provides a means to be unseen, and that's what DarkCoin is doing in a way.

Not that I condone criminal activity, but to be honest, that is how bitcoins gained some traction. I don't think any rational person will see the name darkcoin and say, oh, I can't use that, as it's an evil coin used for bad things. If so, they wouldn't use bitcoins or any currency either. It's not like someone made a coin called devilcoin (although give them time, they are sort of running out of names).... Bitcoin - litecoin - darkcoin ... has a nice ring to it, and perhaps darkcoin becomes the copper to litecoin's silver. Although litecoin isn't doing particularly well either lately. The coin is being dumped everywhere. Putting up a buy wall wont stop it. As long as dark send is not yet live, it will unfortunately continue. Right now its an aspiration to be the first. We're not there yet.
The problem is there is not enough demand at the moment for the steady supply of fresh coins. Unfortunately there is no marketing. No PR. No dev interviews. Nothing. Its all hinged on darksend right now. The sooner that is up and running the better. That might be actually intentional I have a similar feeling about Vertcoin btw, that the creators want to give themselves more time before they start the hype machine on full steam. Without any hype right now, and with all the dumps because of the hack on ccex... it's hard for it to go up. Praying for darksend. I must haev missed somethin.. is the hack on ccex related to darksend? No, not at all. Apparently, a guy found himself with 150-300 bitcoin that he didn't own, and in a gut reaction decided to transfer it into dark as a vehicle to move it out of C-Cex before it was found out and cashed out on cryptsy, er polonex. Then he felt guilt and tried to reimburse C-Cex, but a lot of the money was wasted and the market hasn't recovered. I don't know if this guy is telling the truth and has actually tried to make amends but that's the story. People who like money: get on this coin now.
Look the current price of Auroracoin. It's based on the hope the good folk of Iceland (population 300,000 odd) take up the coin for transactions.
Imagine the price of DarkCoin if it becomes the global coin of choice for anonymous transactions - adult entertainment, black market, anyone who wants privacy.
You do the math. I could be wrong but I imagine there will be a few more than 300,000 people wanting to use it.
i have a feeling that aurora is going to be dumped soon.. its just a gut feeling but anyway ... every time i think Okay im gonna buy some darkcoin caz its cheap now ... i see a dumping been watching exchanges for the last 24 hours ... unstopping dumping everytime someone put buy order higher than 0.001 or 0.0011 it get dumped to 0.00095-0.00098 .... then he wait and again and again ..... how many coins do that dumper got ....  I don't know but I sincerely hope it continues until end of day Wednesday because I bought bitcoin again that won't clear until then, LOL. I couldn't resist with these prices, but I'm gonna miss the boat, I know it! |
