Even if the crude oil and natural gas becomes worthless all of a sudden, the economy of the UAE won't be impacted much. Because unlike the other GCC nations, UAE has already been very successful in diversifying their economy. They were able to attract the service industry, by imposing zero corporate and income tax. So they are already in a very comfortable position and as of now there is no need to find any additional avenues of revenue by opening casinos.

Exactly. I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that these OPEC countries have learnt a lot of lessons from the past few decades,,, and the oil money they know will not last forever, which is why they have invested in big businesses all over the world. Just like the old oil governments in North Europe in the past who now even diversify into Bitcoin;)

But they will not start changing strict religious rules just because they might be running out of oil. Maybe they will eventually, but that will be the last thingto go. For now they are not competing to be gambling heavens but more of touristic spots.
1382  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fully vaccinated individuals now spared of masks in the casinos in Vegas on: May 19, 2021, 07:32:45 AM
Damn, they are really pushing vaccinations. Don't get me wrong, I am not against vaccinations and will get one myself, but it seems that you will not be able to watch porn alone in your room without a mask, let alone gamble in casinos. Since they introduced vaccine passports, I am not surprised with this. Does the same apply to casinos on native American territories?

I think people are experimenting with things now a days and i think that many people are just getting bored with the lock down and pandemic that is why they always end up thinking of weird things for their entertainment, I guess the concept of the slapping tournament was because of their boredom.

The Slapping content began way before the pandemic. It wasn't considered as sport before but a show, and It's from Russia. Remember, Russian people loves to play games/contest that are either could physically hurt you or kill you (Russian roulette for example).
These kind of contest wasn't created because they are bored, Russians are competitive and so they are creative of a way how they can compete with each other. Testing physical capabilities is their way of recognizing how strong and competitive you are.

It's not just Russia, it's also the US so it has not much to do with the countries preference in games. And slapping will not kill you. It will hurt you. But also things that will hurt you are MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing, Powerlifting (people killing themselves under the weights), skateboarding, rugby...need I continue?

And slapping tournaments have been around and covered by some media before the pandemic started. Case in point https://www.vice.com/en/article/evewxm/competitive-slapping-is-the-worlds-greatest-sport

Btw, is this it? Charles Oliveira is the new lightweight champ? What about Gaethji and Poirier? Somehow I have missed the moment when it was announced that Oliveira and Chandler would fight for a vacant title.

Poirier choose a payday with Conor and not the gold, and rightly so. It secured him another not bad payday in a trilogy fight, much more than he would get out fighting Oliveira this last weekend. As for them doing it now that Oliveira is the champ...who knows if Dustin will wait for Conor rather than this.
1385  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: May 18, 2021, 10:59:26 AM
Didn't know about this, I just assumed that they are all strict since Islam is a strict religion that has been following their Qur'an for a long time, not meaning to offend but being more liberal even though your primary faith is strict is a progressive thing to do.
But if that is about gambling, I think the government will not let gambling allow in their country because that can break their rule. Gambling is haram in their country, but we do not know if their people do not play gambling publicly because that can attract the officer to arrest them. Islam is a strict religion and if there something that is not matched with their Qur'an or Hadist, they will not tolerate it. But we do not know more about that, and maybe we need to wait for the next news from them so we know what happens in that country.
Doesn't matter how strict their religion is, I am sure that there are people in their country that is going to break the rules, one example is how come there are gays in Islam dominated countries even though it warrants death? That's the same for gambling, people will do what they want to do because they have free will of some sort.

Yes, but if you are gay you can keep it on the low down and in your 4 walls not risking your life, or risking it in the least possible way. If you want to open a casino you really can't do that. Is there gambling in Islamic countries? Sure, but it's probably on the lowest level possible, and that level is not what the casinos are aiming for. So yeah, I think religious restrictions are a major factor for widespread, organised, and advertised gambling.
1386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto-Casinos and KYC on: May 18, 2021, 08:31:20 AM
Seeing as this is a question about KYC I would recommend everyone, that hasn't already, to check out the fantastic post 1miau made about the dangers of KYC. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5221497. It could make you think twice about casinos that use KYC so inform yourself before you make any decision that could hurt you in the long run.

Tony Ferguson was disappointing and it is time for him to slow down or retire as this was his third straight loss and i was expecting him to battle it out and somehow win the fight but that was not the case.

Tony Ferg has been disappointing for the last year and a half or so, right after he tripped on some good damn wires while wearing shades inside and injuring himself. That will go down as one of the most ridiculous ways to end your chance at a title.

^  Chandler had him in the first round and he was pounding on Oliveira’s head but survived to see the second round.  I really thought he was wining until he got caught.  Lol.  And Chandler never came across as ‘cocky’.  At least not for me.  He’s a well spoken guy and he would’ve made a good champ imo.  A kind of person who you’d like represent the sport.o

I wouln't go so far as to say he got caught as Olivs knew what he was throwing and why (and when to throw it), but god damn I had no idea Chandler would put such a performance in the first round. I take back everything I said, he deserved that shot and presented himself as an exceptional fighter. When he caught Charlie with (I think) a left hook that forced Olivs to go for a shitty double leg...OH BOY...

One of the thing that I really don't like about this event is using ammonia to try to revive the participants, I have seen one using it on one participant, he is not yet fully recovered from receiving a big slap and he is not yet fully awake, because when you revive using ammonia your consciousness is not yet fully restored you are still groggy and with a foggy feeling if they are going to treat it a sport, they should implement protection and stop using ammonia.
Is it really ammonia because I think that is a pretty toxic thing to be used for this kind of thing. Maybe it was smelling salts that they used and it just looked like ammonia. I think any kind of thing that makes you wake up because of a knockout is going to make you groggy anyway.

I did a research and you are right it's a smelling salt that they are using but still, it is something that is not natural, bringing consciousness, not in a natural way, according to one reputable article it's not meant to be a sports but a show, one slapping champion become a Youtube star, it may be a show for now but we never know, when there are money and audiences and demand, expect something to happen.

It is ammonia and is in no way toxic to be used in this way or in these quantities. It has been used in sports of Powerlifting and Strongman for years both as a pre-lift adrenaline rush (as it actually simulates the feeling of being slapped in the face) and a wake-up to those who faint due to exaction and is cleared by health and food administrations. So in a sense these slappers at tournaments are getting slapped twice XD

Ferguson vs Dariush was probably most boring fight in this event. Total dominance by Dariush. This is a second fight where Tony was completety dominated by his opponent. I guess that is it. He will be fired from UFC and probably wont continue career in other organization. I will always remember him as a tough fighter that shows bloody fights.

Dariush made it look boring and by doing that he actually made a statement. If he could make a fight with Ferg look boring, one-sided and as a clinic, he is ready for the big leagues. Give that man someone in the top, he deserves it.
1392  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MMA Info and Predictions - Bellator, KSW, PFL, ONE... on: May 14, 2021, 08:45:05 AM
Brandon Vera is taking this seriously and he is preparing for this fight in Sanford MMA against Indian from Canada Arjan Bhullar and he is finally going to after long break and last fight in 2019.
Both of the fighters are very good in wrestling but Vera also has great 69% KO/TKO record, but Bhullar is eight years younger and hungry to beat him.
Check out short video preview for this event, and don't forget that Vera is also involved in Class-Action Lawsuit against the UFC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSzVUjVl-3A

I forgot about the lawsuit. Who is still involved in that lawsuit? Mark Hunt? Or is that a different one? I kinda dropped off that for a while and thought it was settled out of court.

Michael Chandler is a high profile fighter and he was a multiple time champion in other promotions and he was the back up fighter on the Khabib and Justin Gaethje fight card and if he can be the back up championship fighter he is the next in line for the belt and he did not sit idle as he fought Dan Hooker and finished him in impressive fashion and that warranted the title shot.

Are you 100% sure that other organizations were on the same level as UFC? He has only 1 fight under UFC and already a top contender for a title fight.
Take Islam Makhachev for example. 8-0 in UFC but havent fought anyone from real top. I think he deserves to be closer for title fight than Chandler. I could understand that he deserves title fight so quickly in UFC because he held or given away his Bellator belt. But he had lost his title to Patrício Freire by TKO in first minute of first round.

You are right on that. Sure, there have been outliers like Gaethje or Alvarez that came from other organizations and actually had a good run, but for the most part, the level is just not the same, so I would rather see Chandler grind it out a bit more than just get thrown in with Charlie Olivs. But, that's what happens when a champion in a division vacates the title, a power vacume.

I do not even know if that sport exist if I do not read the thread from @OP Grin

After I visited the links and did a little search about that sport, I realize that this sport is different from other sport, even about MMA or something like that.

Maybe soon, the rating of this sport will rise after this news spreads on many websites and that can attract more players from other companies that want to test their power.

I mean, it is different as it is still on the fringes, the same as Bare Knuckle Boxing was a couple of years ago, or how people still don't realize that arm wrestling is actually a legit sport.
1397  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MMA Info and Predictions - Bellator, KSW, PFL, ONE... on: May 13, 2021, 06:33:08 AM
^ It’s this Saturday.  No way they’re fighting from the date before and show the replay at a later date.  I wonder what the odds are on Vera vs Bhullar.  If they line this at around 1.65 or more for Bhullar I’ll be all over it.  It’s ridiculous how Vera is still fighting at 43.  And he only fights once a year since he went to ONE FC.

Edit:  Age doesn’t matter much at HW tho and Bhullar had a somewhat long lay off.  He last fought at 2019, October.  Hmmm...

Yeah, that confused me a bit, that must be some error on wiki or some language mishap, maybe it was planned for that date but got rescheduled.

Age becomes less and less a factor when you go up in weight classes. I think the average for HW and LHW was 34-35, and for the lighter classes, it tends to be around 30.

Here is an upcoming ONE Championship event...well, I say upcoming because I'm kinda not really sure what they mean by the date April 28, 2021 but the air date May 15, 2021, but anyway, here is the lineup.

1399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours on: May 12, 2021, 09:44:47 AM

@TheNineClub, Croatia are #45 in the rugby world rankings, FWIW > https://www.world.rugby/tournaments/rankings/mru

In Ireland as I mentioned Rugby is the 4th most popular sport behind our
2 national sports, Gaelic Football (Aussie Rules Football would be the closest game to it),
Hurling and Soccer in 3rd.

Yeah, but the 45th placing is not all that great seeing that Rugby is played here for some time. But that all boils down to weak funding from the local government and weak support from people (I mean in numbers, not them shouting XD), and then in return, you get possible players not really thinking that Rugby is a viable option for someone who wants to get into professional sports, so they turn to more profitable sports if possible and that cycle just continues. It's interesting that the type of people that Rugby attracted in Croatia, were (for the most part), not your typical athletes but rather fans of the sports that enjoy the game, pain, and drinking, and I am not exaggerating here. We do have more regular athletes, but we really need to bump it to a higher level for it to do something more meaningful.

Gaelic football and Hurling? I'd never guessed it. Strange but also cool that it's not god damn soccer in the first place all of the time XD

I don't know too much about Croatia (except for it's troubled past & it's love of soccer).  It's only natural that games such as Rugby, Soccer and Cricket are an integral part of life in the British Isles (and in the Commonwealth Countries as well).  I'm in Australia and every one are "Cricket Tragics".

There you go, learned something new today, I never viewed Australia as having an interest in Cricket, but yeah, makes sense when you remind me that indeed, all Commonwealth Countries share love for Cricket (I honestly have never understood what the fuck is going on in those games, but it must be a cultural thing)

1400  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sumo betting seems rigged - can you make profit with it? on: May 12, 2021, 09:18:17 AM
I am not questioning if it is rigged, however, I am surprised as that really goes against the whole Japanese tradition and respect to sports in general. I know they are not above cheating in any regard, but still, it always seemed (and I think I watched somewhere where they talk about it) that they have the utmost respect to keeping sports as pure as possible. Oh well, modern times require modern solutions.
