141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Countdown to shipping all units - 15th October on: October 13, 2013, 10:41:52 AM
Not long now KNC. I like the idea of another form of compensation rather than a refund, because I would still like to get the machine.
142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 13, 2013, 10:39:02 AM
I think we should be given a 10% discount code or something. We can start the petition here and now.

Speak for yourself, don't even put that lame idea in their head.

The data centre people got BTC, we want BTC.

We are losing BTC = compensation in BTC.

They claim on their website the Jupiter is 550GH/s machine, so at that speed, can current mine 1.5BTC per day.

I think 1.5BTC per day late is fair compensation, (until the next difficulty change and that figure can be adjusted).

You promised delivery of ALL units by the 15th - twice (-> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=309391 ) - so put your money BTC where your mouth is KNC.

BTC compensation is fine with me too.

They promised all units would be shipped, didn't they? Not delivered (received)... So we should all have tracking numbers by the 15th at least. No tracking number, then compensation...

144  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: St. George bank Australia blocked my account for buying BTC via localbitcoins on: October 13, 2013, 07:24:12 AM
I'm with St George, was considering doing a test transaction, but maybe not after reading this thread. Can anyone provide more information on St George's acceptance or not of BTC transactions?

Thanks,

Come on KNC, turn my August Mercury into "In Progress" - 2 days left to meet your deadline Smiley

Shocked I am wishing my self.... My self -> Order #6xxx Paid (Payed)

I think they are actually putting all their orders "in progress."

I dont think so.

I don't think they are either...

I keep seeing UPS trucks driving around and get sad Sad - But then I get happy because it's almost time!

Edit: I'm going to be rather annoyed if they don't ship my Mercury until November, I could have bought a bigger unit for roughly the same price, some compensation is going to be wanted if that's the case. But I still have 2 days worth of faith.

Silently, patiently waiting. Difficulty just jumped, not much I can do about that. I'm not expecting any news from KNC until at least September 30th, no point worrying, whinging about it.

Relax people, they're on it! Smiley *faith*

Which leads back to my original question: Should I run two miners on one psu?

yes, technically you can. but as you mentioned, it is definitely safer to buy new PSUs for each miner. just because, half day of non-mining because of faulty PSU will cost much then new PSU.) I will buy something from enermax, at least with gold certification but considering platinum now.)

Get whatever you feel safest with. Don't cut corners. Solid PSU's can be re-sold, or re-used at a later date. Killing your unit by cutting corners will only mean you may loose out in the long run.

Also is you are running one PSU for both, and the PSU fails, that's both units out of action till the situation is resolved.

I wouldn't run the two on one PSU, good call there.

September 8th, is that all? Man, October can't come quick enough!

153  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hosted Mining Sydney, NSW, Australia (Connection Stability Issues) on: September 08, 2013, 09:17:08 AM
with respect, the few shares you lose every few days will cost way less than the hosting to save them.
Doing some troubleshooting and maybe upgrading modem might solve the issues
do you have naked adsl or a landline? - if landline is there noise on the line? if so you might be able to get line issues fixed -if thats the problem

you shouldn't need to restart your device just because it loses connection, when connection resumes it should get work from the pool and start submitting.

Embeded Linux device to allow for standalone mining. < you can ssh to the device and send it reboot command

the way to get best return from asic devices is minimise the cost of running them - hosting will maximise the cost (in AU anyway)

Hey, well as far as line noise. I don't even know where to start to test that stuff out. The modem just lost connection then and took about 5-10 minutes to sort itself out and connect again. It seems like it's a daily occurrence. Maybe cheap internet or old modem is the cause here?

So whatever mining software is the machines shouldn't have any issues reconnecting once the modem has sorted itself out?. I'll have to research testing the lines, do some troubleshooting.

Battery backup! Christ, something else I hadn't thought of. Although, I don't remember ever having a power outage in the few years we've been here, so hopefully I won't ever need battery.
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 08, 2013, 04:53:33 AM
i dont think the psu really matters honestly. dont waste money on anything crazy. just get a decent well priced unit and you will be fine, just wait for KNC to tell us the specs first.
A more efficient PSU should give you a longer tail--but that's also when you're earning the least, so perhaps it won't matter quite as much, much as you suggest here.

These are the best power supplies you can buy, I think. I have them running in multiple computers and they run so efficient the fan barely ever comes on to cool it. Never really maxes out and they aren't over powered for the system at all. Trust me, these are high quality power supplies.

I got a couple lying around, so I'm all good. I'm mining with my 28Mhs GPU while I wait. Just for the sake of it. LOL!

Something like this may be all I need...

Still interested in Hosted Mining, though...

Thanks,
157  Bitcoin / Mining / Hosted Mining Sydney, NSW, Australia (Connection Stability Issues) on: September 08, 2013, 01:48:15 AM
Hi All,

So like a few others here in Aus, I've ordered a KNC unit expected for delivery come October however...

I'm a little worried about the stability of my ADSL connection. It seems every couple of days the connection will drop out, and I have no real way of knowing whether or not it'll kick back in, hence I'll be losing shares in the process (under the understanding shares can't be held and submitted when back online).

So this brings me to thinking about hosted mining. Is anyone offering this service in Sydney or know of anywhere offering this service? I don't really like the idea of having KNC host my machine, I'd like to be able to visit it (my baby), once in a while, or pick her up and take her home if my connection improves.

I also thought of getting cable, thinking it may be more stable than ADSL (reading mixed reviews)? I have ADSL with TPG and my modem is quite a few years old. Maybe that's my issue? Or, the issue is with our lines here or something else... I'd be fine if I could remotely power up/down my modem, don't know if that's possible, is it?

Cheers,
jmevz

PS: Apologies if this is in the wrong category.
158  Other / Beginners & Help / Selling Bitcoins in Australia on: September 07, 2013, 12:49:39 AM
Hi All,

Are you buying and selling BTC from Australia? What services do you use? I can't quite work out if I can actually withdraw monies from MTGOX and Bitstamp's fields are a little confusing. Would love if anyone could shed some light, advise.

Thanks,
J

Just pray KnC won't suffer loses in customs the way Avalon did Tongue

You have to include your VAT number at placing an order.
European products are also probably cheaper in taxes than non-european products.

So as an european, i don't worry much about the taxes or customs.
I do wonder for our American friends how this will come out to p(l)ay xD

I'm glad I'm in the US and not paying VAT.. I've seen the VAT costs on these and it makes my brain hurt. The last few times I've taken possession of things from across the pond, the customs fee (if any at all) was only a few percent. Yes, the items cost more than these miners.

Sometimes things get charged custsoms, sometimes they don't, and it's usually not bad at all really. I think the most I've ever paid is 5%.

I hope my unit skips through customs happily Smiley

I think we'll see another drop in price IMO before it hits the $200 mark at any time. Bitcoin needs more acceptance!
