142  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Bitpay 1 oz Silver Round Silver Rounds on: February 17, 2021, 03:31:04 PM
I will prolly buy one just to add to the collection. it is crypto related and is at least silver - maybe we should do a group buy and send it to mj and let him reship em - can save a few nickels lol

The bitpay coin is 9.95 shipping for 1 coin, but free with a few more. Also, some of our friends in Spain could use our help so a group buy might make sense. But shipping to Spain is obviously still a cost.

The coininvest shipping appears to be $41.95 shipping regardless of 1 or more. So this def makes sense for anyone in states that wants one to do a group buy and save some nickels.

I would be willing to do the buy and ship out to stateside folks or we could have it go right to minerjones and he can add to what he has for anyone that orders as well.

If you're doing this hit me up Cheesy I'd be down to buy one. I don't wanna sign up with them for just one coin, give them my personal information, and pay $9.99 for shipping on top of that for their ugly design.

If only the coin didn't have the "BitPay" logo in front I'd buy a few. Would have been great to give as a present otherwise.
143  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius Loans on: February 17, 2021, 02:43:13 AM
i doubt any one is willing to lend more than 25-30%of BTC value, if you borrow 25kfor 1 btc and the BTC plunges like it did in the past, thenthe lender is screwed!

Even at 25-30% it seems to be a bit of a risk for the custodian if the loan is in fiat. Given that we have seen BTC lose 80%+ of its value from peak in past. But that's where the numismatic value of the collectibles comes into play too. If the loan is in BTC value it would probably have to be close to 80-90 percent or more.

for me, I would never do this - this would mean giving someone possession of my collectibles. I see this as the same sort of fallacy as trusting an exchange to be your wallet. It's all good till they have 10 million in physicals that they loaned out 5 million for and then they up and disappear. And that could easily happen in the crypto space. And it has happened many times. Sorry, once you give up your keys, it ceases to be your crypto. You are essentially selling your item and hoping to eventually buy it back once you pay off the loan.

^

I would also worry about other potential threats such as a potential fire or theft. Or some employee in the lending firm going rogue and redeeming your private keys (this might not be very likely to happen but you still need to put some level of trust on whoever you're giving possession of your collectibles to). When I keep collectibles under my own watch, I understand all the risks and can take measures to protect myself against those risks. I wouldn't trust a firm or custodian whose sole purpose is to make money to make decisions that are in my best interest.

I personally would never take a loan against my collectibles, but different people have different risk taking tendencies so there might still be market for this. People trust the likes of Celcius and BlockFi to lend their BTC and borrow against their BTC, I imagine there would be a market for what OP is proposing too.

Which is the most bitcoin purse Electrum vs buxtank.com?
I don't know what buxtank is. Never heard of it and I don't see any previous mentions of buxtank on bitcointalk. Is this an advertisement for buxtank? Huh

In case your question is genuine:
Electrum is what I personally use for smaller amounts and I would recommend it over an obscure and shady looking wallet such as buxtank.

I would also recommend taking a look at this page and choosing a wallet that best fits your use case:

146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feb 22 & XRP, what do you think will happen? on: February 15, 2021, 09:17:48 PM
Whatever the outcome, I don't see XRP sustaining at this price for very long given the shady past of its founders (selling millions upon millions out of their stash. misleading their investors. keeping the users in dark).

If it's a favorable outcome, there could be a slight increase in price in short term. If it's not a favorable outcome, I imagine a lot of people would sell causing the price to go down.

But long term I don't see XRP performing well because at the end of the day it's a centralized currency sold to users under false premise.
147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: bitcoinparty.co - bitcoin prices comparison in Europe & US on: February 15, 2021, 08:44:29 PM
Great work bitcoinparty_pl. I like the website. It's nice and simple to use.

Just a few observations. I don't see Coinbase Pro in the list of exchanges when I pick USD. That is where I make most of my purchases and sales, so quite a bummer not being able to compare the quotes there with other exchanges. And fees for Gemini look a bit off (unless it's showing Polish fees and not US fees, in which case I am probably wrong).

Also, is the amount that you show in "You'll receive" before or after the fees have been deducted?
148  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How do I create and design simple website? on: February 15, 2021, 08:31:51 PM
Assuming you are wanting to create a website that will have some functionality or some user interaction, just HTML and CSS will not cut it. You will want to learn some language that you can use on server side too. Such as C#, JavaScript, Java, Scala, Go, etc.

From their you will want to learn how to work with databases and APIs.

Below I will list the stack I use for most of my projects nowadays. You can learn each of them separately, or take some online course on Udemy that cover all the aspects.

Front end: React or Angular (both will require you to learn JavaScript).
Back end: NodeJS (with Express or Next.js). I also find ASP.NET and Go to be decent.
Database: MongoDB, Firestore, CosmosDB, DynamoDB.

GraphQL is also one of the techs I love to use, makes working with APIs much more fun.

If you have any specific questions on any of these, feel free to ask or shoot me a DM.
149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized My Butt on: February 15, 2021, 07:56:03 PM
It's quite normal to see these drops in alt coins when Bitcoin has even the slightest drop in price because altcoin prices are pegged to Bitcoin. Heck, we even see these kind of days in stock market where everything is in red. Rather normal, and I would say it's not any sort of manipulation.

There are multiple factors that contribute to it.

How I imagine this drop across the board played out.

Bitcoin drops 1.5k in a span of 5-10 minutes.
Since alt coin prices are pegged to Bitcoin, automated bots see a drop in price and execute their sell strategies to minimize losses. Taking price down.
Stop limit and stop losses are hit across the board, causing prices to drop even further.
People panic, and start selling their alt coins thinking there is going to be a bigger drop. Taking the price down even further.

End result is you see this huge red wave that took place within an hour.

That's just my theory and I could be wrong and there could be more to it too, but having been in alts scene for a while, I've seen this happen plenty times.
150  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Take my BTC from my Digital postage stamp challenge on: February 15, 2021, 06:50:28 PM
Well....here is another nice challenge that I think will be a bit harder and fun.....

You need to figure out the names of 20 forum members from this word puzzle. All taken from the collectables section today.

Once this is done you will need to place in alphabetical order the names and take the first letter of each name in order and this will give you the password for the private key

But thats not it, you need to wait until the 21st February to broadcast this timelock code. So in other words even though you have figured out the password for the private key, there is no bitcoin in the stamp. The coins will be available AFTER you broadcast the raw Hex code on that day, then the stamp will be loaded, then you can sweep.

Keep in mind its for Sun Feb 21 2021 00:00:14 EST. Blockchain takes a median time, in other words even if you transmit at exactly that time, an error might come up, as the median time lags behind real time, even up to an hour or two depending on how long the blocks take to be added to blockchain.

Code:
020000000103bfdaa1eb2ddfe0f3413737fafb043f0607229643ba5934fcc1ce7455e23f31000000006a473044022007da6d883ee0952139a8b97c7c89503f4c13e6f69e213eec838a23e35f8808e102207082958fb7f01920e1fc89b2b08fb946f9a43da5f2604e334e28318f6c837b0201210372a52f8ef2e3663507477f7f0cf1994c8cb46252ca22bed4425a70cab09deca3feffffff01bd270000000000001976a914675bd20c10471947aa3ae1ef323d01fa41e7e2a588acdee83160

     So to recap,

      a) Solve the word puzzle by finding the names of 20 forum members

      b) Place names in alphabetical order

      c) Take the first letter of each name and altogether they will be the password required to unlock the private key

      d) Broadcast the raw hex code here https://blockstream.info/tx/push on the 21st February 2021.

      e) Once that is done, the stamp will then be loaded with Bitcoin.

      f) Sweep the private QR code stamp with the correct password consisting of the first letters of each members name from the word puzzle in alphabetical order.

So even though you figure out the password now, you will still have to wait until Sunday, so many people can have figured it out, but still you have to beat your other competitors to broadcasting the raw TX and then sweeping.  Goodluck!!!

Found a few names but I give up. Might try and look for more names later as there's plenty of time left (till 21st).

What was the answer to original riddle btw, if you or tweetious don't mind sharing?
151  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Big Dump on: February 15, 2021, 04:06:11 AM
Let me ask you this. How did you lose $300 (43%) out of your total investment of $689 when BTC barely dipped 5% and then rebounded fairly quickly? Huh

Also, an advice for future. Never panic sell, ever. It never ends well. Formulate an exit strategy at the time you make any investment and stick to it. It will do you well in the long run.

154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BCH breaks it's long term resistance on: February 14, 2021, 04:36:12 PM
BCash is a dead horse. You need to look at it in terms of BTC price and not USD price to see the bigger picture.

Here's a snip from BCH/BTC pair chart on CoinMarketCap.

BCash is an ever declining asset, while it might give you some profit in short term, it's not a good investment for long term, and let's be realistic here, almost every other alt coin has had a similar level of increase if not more in past couple weeks, why would BCH not.

BCH died the moment Roger Ver and his team dug their own grave by claiming that BCH is the real BTC, and to top it off they led the efforts to mislead newbies into purchasing/using BCash on Bitcoin.com wallet by claiming it's Bitcoin.
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your favourite 3 coins right now? on: February 14, 2021, 01:40:36 PM
If I had to pick two coins (Bitcoin being the obvious first choice here), I'd say I like ETH because it opened all sort of new possibilities, and XMR because of its focus on privacy.

I also like LTC and Doge because mining these was fun back in the day, before all the ASICs took over.
156  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: February 13, 2021, 10:56:29 PM
I've just doubled my allowed bandwidth (paid by Bitcoin Lightning Network) to 2 TB/month. However, the webhost hasn't processed the payment yet. If it processes it on time, you guys can continue downloading tomorrow. If not, it will reach it's 1 TB bandwidth limit tomorrow and get be suspended until the end of the month.

To be continued ........

Update: upgrade completed! I'm curious though: I'd love to know what this data is being used for. There must be more than a thousand downloads per month now.

Wow, more than a thousand downloads per month. That's bound to eat up a lot of bandwidth seeing as each download must be ~1 GB.

My guess would be some of those are people utilizing your list to locate their full addresses using first bits. I collect physical Bitcoin collectibles and currently use smartbit.com.au to find full addresses associated with physical coins using the provided first bits.

I feel it would be really neat to do that using shell and not having to go through a third party. But for my use case I would probably need to download the file only once and use the same copy over and over seeing as most older collectibles should already be under your latest list.

Thanks for your work on this. Count on one more download and an additional 1 GB increase in bandwidth in the next few days because I am going to download a copy and spin up a small script for my own use soon. Wink
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: We need Paper USDT on: February 13, 2021, 10:33:51 PM
By paper, do you mean a paper wallet containing private keys to an address holding USDT, or something in form of IOU similar to USD?

We already have paper BTC storage in form of notes such as Bitcoin Suisse and Polymerbit. Beautiful looking notes too. (I will make it clear that those are not meant to be used for storing large sums of BTC, just as a novelty.)

You could take the same concept and create paper USDT notes similarly. I don't understand the appeal of USDT though. Wouldn't you wanna use USD instead? The bills are already in circulation. Why not use those instead?

Besides, if you were to purchase paper notes containing private keys to a public key holding USDT, now you're having to trust three parties to not screw you over:

1) The creator of the paper USDT notes to not have malicious intent
2) The creators of USDT to not dissolve their organization
3) US federal reserve to not devalue USD exceedingly

All in all, that's a terrible idea.

I could understand it from a collector's point of view though. But that wouldn't make sense for regular use.
158  Economy / Goods / Re: FOR SALE: Original Satoshi Times 03/01/2009 on: February 13, 2021, 06:52:59 PM
whats up with the date in the future ?

My guess is they are not located in the US. Most of the world other than the US seems to follow DD/MM/YYYY date format.

Notice how they also mentioned Jan 3rd 2009 as "03/01/2009" in the thread title.

Date jonny1000 wrote seems to match the date of their post going by this observation.

Sorry new to these, how many in each roll?

25 chips in each roll. Each chip loaded with 0.001BTC, so you're looking at a face value of 0.025BTC per roll.
