Quitting bitcoin mining is a wonderful idea. They are much safer now. Unfortunately the quitters are just passing the danger on to others who may be more apathetic or ignorant about safety.
The only harmless mining rig is the one donated to a local library.

Oh I know this. But after the scammer talks it invites the people who have been ripped off by said scammer. And then we get truth. AND JUSTICE!
Wait until you have to make a choice from conflicting information. For instance, MtGox has many fans and is the major financial player, easily. However, in some people's minds they are scammers, crooks, thieves, shady, etc. That is a significant dilemma.

Well, I own bitcoinmining.info and I fancy it as a great domain (for a .info) as the title can simply be Bitcoin Mining Info, and it can feed off of that generic search.
I already have enough bitcoin website projects going on and want to put more time into the rest of my life, so I haven't moved on it yet like I thought I would. However, now would be a great time to get this going while there is still a chance of rising up through Google. Also, it can be linked to and from Bitcoin Mining Accidents (which has had 13K unique visitors this month).
Basically I need a person very familiar with mining (just one) who writes well and is familiar with Wordpress. They will make a comprehensive guide to mining. We don't sell anything, we don't have users, just readers. This is mostly a static site, with updates when new technology is released. So the hard part is launching with great info.
I cover hosting, make edits accordingly (big stickler for coherent writing and you should be too), do the social media and advertising campaigns, various other things like picking the template, managing plugins and widgets. Basically I'm just trying to save myself from having to research and write the comprehensive mining pages that is the product.
This person will earn a 25% share of the domain name ownership when I approve the beta and it's launched. They also will get 50% of any advertising revenue through the rest of this year. Beyond that I will evaluate whether or not I still need a webmaster for day to day or whether I will make the content updates myself. There may be other sweeteners. Please PM.

Maybe you stole more than just 4, I just find it weird how it will never open up again. It was a great website, if you check the messages between the buyer and I. He was about to release the bitcoins to me, but couldn't find it. So could you please release them now?
You really should not accuse people of stealing without some sort of evidence. Especially when the person is actually trying to work with you. +1, This is one of the 'good guys'

I'm going to venture a guess here, that another node generated a block within a few seconds of yours.
Actually I am interested if anybody can explain this one, it's new to me too.

Mysterious. At this moment there are 10K more BTC demanded than supplied ... pretty impressive. Data from http://buckheadbitcoin.com/ - price may be moving up.

Hey you should really use this cool new currency, Granny. All you have to do is buy a new computer -- heck, just throw it together from cheapo parts on newegg, it's not like you're going to be gaming on it -- install linux, along with the bitcoin client, all from a single boot cd -- right, you need to make this first, dont' connect to the internet from your new machine, use the old virus-infected one -- find, encrypt (just use truecrypt, granny) and backup your wallet.dat file to multiple media and, through your regular machine -- not the new one, keep it pristine! -- upload to the cloud, go the blockchain explorer to see you're getting your deposits, and if you ever want to access those funds, just boot your new machine -- don't use it for anything else! -- decrypt and reload your saved wallet file, run the client just long enough to send your other, totally vulnerable, spending account some BTC, and... use that account to make purchases on the interwebs!
See? Bitcoin security is simple and totally convenient. Money has basically never been so easy.
Honestly, this is exactly why I stopped developing a site called Bitcoin For Beginners ... it turns out it really isn't. I wrote a lot until I realized it is basically an impossible task to leverage clarity and completeness needed to understand and use this shit securely with the brevity and simplicity expected in a tutorial to get someone's feet wet. It actually felt like an ethical dilemma so I just opted to stop development entirely. I found I wanted to just recommend an online wallet only, but that would have to come with a long disclaimer about trusting a third party to A) Not get broken into and pillaged and B) Not be scumbag thieves themselves.

re : In new twist, Gox punks everyone again
Figured I should make a post in this thread. At first I thought it was a redundant thread and wouldn't get responses so I passed on the opportunity to snipe it; however, people have started to reply to it, so I had to make a post for historical purposes, so I will settle for post #8, if this thread really takes off and becomes very long.
And post #11 as well.

lol and the IT crackdowns begin... across the country IT workers lose high paying jobs and get sued for theft of company resources cuz they tried to mine a 100$ worth of bitcoins.
Just became a new addiction criteriaRe:OP : Yes, just a temporary increase from good mining luck. Nice to know. But hashing power is still rising by the day. That's some good hash!
