We've unfortunately had a terrible amount of server issues (a few of which were mentioned here) over the past few days, and have been in 100% firefighting mode.  A coin update caused a bunch of chain reactions, eating up too much memory, causing our work processors to crash, causing the queue of shares to shoot up, causing too much memory usage (again), causing our db to become starved, causing bitcoind to crash, causing our profitability calculator to reference everything compared to a 0 difficulty bitcoin, causing profitabilities to all be 0, causing it to stick on luckycoin for about 2 hours while I fixed all the issues.

poolwaffle,

So the pool had a glitch and threw the Luckycoin into limbo and you don't feel it is necessary to respond to even a single of my private messages and let the developer know what is going on?
144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Profit switching pool - wafflepool.com on: February 15, 2014, 05:10:46 AM
Titan: obviously your block limiting system wasn't very effective at maintaining the network. Irrelevent of why we mined (if it was actually us) the diff so high, your problem is that the diff didn't drop quickly enough when the hashrate then decreased. Consider this a test that the coin failed to emerge well from, and develop better systems?

Hostmaster: you sure that wasn't unconfirmed total? I watch my stats closely, and everything seems very on the up and up here.  What does the earnings log show when this apparently happened?  All balance changes are justified in the log.

The Luckycoin has weathered many multipools in the past year but non of them ever drove the coin from a profitability between 30-40 down to 1. This is not mining the coin but a blatant network attack misusing your miners hashing power for the attack.
What is the reason for the pool to mine the coin at difficulty 20+ when it could mine it at difficulty 1-2 other than an intentional severe disruption of the network for no obvious reason.

No coin can survive if driven down to profitability 1, because no miner would mine for 3% of the profit of other coins.
So arguing that the difficulty adjustment is not fast enough is a bit gross.

Anyway, saying it was not us, just shows your attitude towards the developers that spend a lot of time to develop the coin,s from which you profit, or in the case of the Luckycoin just waste your miners money.

There are only two addresses that received coins during the attack:

Anyone of the miners here on the wafflepool feel now responsible to pull the Luckycoin out of the misery you put it in?
Some honest answers please!
Build a better diff algorithm?  If you can't stand a small pool hopping on for a bit, what is going to happen when scrypt ASICs come around midyear?  I certainly can't speak for anyone else that is part of this pool, but I feel that 'testing' small alt-coins (sometimes to the point of their destruction) and rapidly trading them (sometimes even crashing the price) is a positive thing about profit switching pools.  Too many altcoins around.

On topic, domain is working again for me, although pie chart is still borked.

The Luckycoin already has a block rate limiter build in that makes flash mining the coin highly inefficient.
Today the pool mined for about two hours. 99% of the hashing power of the pool was lost due to the block rate limiter.
To make that pretty clear all miners on the pool wasted two hours of mining for essentially nothing.
How is that for a "profit" switching pool?

The pool could have mined the same amount of about 3000 coins with about 20MH/s in the same amount of time.
Certainly the block rate limiter does not stop a pool from wasting all it's hashing power for nothing and one can consider this as a design flaw.
Still someone has to pay for the electricity that is wasted in this way.

In the past even the multipool and recently the megamultipool stopped "flash mining" the Luckycoin because it is not economically efficient.

I still wonder, and have asked every pool operator in the past, why you not just simple distribute the hashing power over all the profitable coins and collect the rewards without driving the difficulty up. You could have mined all the Luckycoins of the day with a fraction of the pool hashing power without disrupting the network for a good profit.

Just some thoughts and thanks for the constructive input.

You guys mined the Luckycoin at difficulty 20+ today?!

Wafflepool doesn't have the 3GH/s mentioned in the original post, so presumably not just waffle if that was all 'extra'.

The Luckycoin client often overshoots in the hash rate estimate in these situations.
At one point it showed 2.8 GH/s that was nearly 50x the previous hashing rate.
Anyway the difficulty went from 1 to 23. Never in the lifetime of the coin the difficulty was that high.

As usual all the profit minded miners are now gone and the Luckycoin network hashes at 10 MH/s or less at a difficulty appropriate for a 1GH/s network with block times in the hours.

Who is putting 3GH/s on the Luckycoin network?
We are now at difficulty 23!

Anyone?

Well, the wafflepool.com is running amok!

Coinplorer.com: A new advanced block chain explorer for the Luckycoin

Dear Luckycoin community,

I am excited to announce the addition of the Luckycoin to the coinplorer.com website.
https://coinplorer.com is an advanced block chain explorer very similar to blockchain.info for Bitcoin.

The Luckycoin block chain data takes a few more hours to be fully processed by the site.
We are currently at block 137,000 out of 158,000 blocks.

I near future coinplorer.com will also introduce secure online wallets!

Get Lucky,

Titan

Titan, you need to redesign your first post so it will gather some attention. Just take a look at other coins, attention comes with presentation.
Also, your coin had a recent spike which is good, not many know it is on Cryptsy - you need to bold that one too.

I've been working hard on tracking down LuckyC, the creator of the Luckycoin, over the last months, but no success.
So I simply don't have access to the first post, and LuckyC didn't post on BCT since the day after the launch.

Still the creator of the original LuckyCoinProject on Github agreed to remove the old repository after I found out about his identity, removing one source of confusion.

I have built an informative and up to date forum on cryptocointalk.com four months ago, but it seems to be hard to get people moving. Eventually I will relaunch the BCT thread.

Please, everyone who wants to follow the news on the Luckycoin join the cummunity forum at CryptoCoinTalk.

I have a working luckycoinj implementation based on the latest bitcoinj 10.3 for the Android Luckycoin wallet.
The next Luckycoin client v2 release will move very close to Bitcoin 0.8.6
Both clients will be released in the near future.

Titan

Hi Titan,

Can you please post here to this thread when you have created that? We are looking for new currencies that we can add to Hive.

Hi hivewallet,

Your hive project looks interesting!

I have completed the Android Luckycoin wallet with full SPV support.
You can download the latest build form: http://www.luckycoinfoundation.org/wallet-3.30.apk
Development thread: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/3739-android-luckycoin-wallet/

I will put the sources of luckycoinj and luckycoin-wallet on Github when the final testing of the client is completed.
I have to time the full rollout a bit because the luckycoin-wallet requires Luckycoin v2 nodes with bloom filtering and other stuff.
I haven't finalized all the features for the Luckycoin v2 yet.

Sounds like you are on the wrong chain.  Keep some peers from this thread and redownload.

Thank you for responding. I actually figured out myself. There are 2 github accounts for luckycoin, apparently I chose the wrong one. For the record:

https://github.com/LuckyCoinProject/Luckycoin <-- This is wrong!
https://github.com/LuckyCoinFoundation/Luckycoin <-- Correct one.

I removed my copy and compiled from the other, more recent github profile and it is working now.

Thanks for that information

Thanks for helping to keep everyone up to date!

I have found some forensic evidence of the original creator of the Luckycoin on Github.
I have ask him to remove the outdated Luckycoin repository form Github and relinquish access to this thread.

The outdated Github repository of the LuckyCoinProject has been removed as of today!

Are you still working on this coin solo Titan?

The short answer is: No
I have refocused the coin development over the last month to support new directions.
New Luckycoin client v2, mobile wallet, website, all the pieces will fall into place.
My partners will come forward when the time is right.
