141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: May 07, 2018, 07:28:51 AM
Thanks for the input guys. I did upgrade my Monero GUI to the latest version. I think the issue now is that, after the upgrade, the blockchain has to be "corrected" such that my GUI syncs to the right chain after the fork. I hope this works. As an aside, say I royally F this up, wouldn't it be possible to just redownload the new version of the Monero GUI and launch it anew with my seed words?

You can start from scratch, but I think it'd be much faster to use monero-blockchain-import --pop-blocks 26375.

https://crypto.stanford.edu/bulletproofs/

So Monero devs are the first one, to implement this protocol in production code?

Since it will be open source, it can be ported to Bitcoin, Litecoin's confidential transaction?

Thank you

Wownero currently uses bulletproofs on its mainnet Smiley
145  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitmain claims another crack against PoW: This time Equihash on: May 04, 2018, 12:41:08 PM
I wonder when Bitmain actually started to produce this ASIC. It seems like they'd kept their Monero ASIC to themselves for quite some time, and then only announced and started to sell to customers once a PoW change had been announced.

Quote
A giant chinese company has become so bloated that can do whatever it wishes to do against the community under the umbrella of their nonsense arguments like 'ASIC has pros and cons', 'ASIC is inevitable', ...
It's hard to hate Bitmain just for producing ASICs. If they didn't make them, somebody else would.

if I use xmr light weight wallet, do I have to use a payment ID when receiving XMR?

It depends on which wallet you're using. With MyMonero, you don't need to use a payment id when receiving XMR.

can I claim XMR V by holding XMR on a light wallet?

If you control the private keys, like with MyMonero, yes you will be able to spend your MoneroV (although I'm not sure why you'd want to). If you're using an exchange wallet, you're up to the mercy of whoever controls those private keys.

^^^ I highly recommend folks not store their coins on random websites. Talking to strangers is also not advised; just shout no and run if you're approached!

MyMonero is far from a random website, but yes the desktop wallets would definitely be better.

Thanks, I just signed up Smiley

I saw the Opendime online a while ago, the only thing that put me off was the cost. Sure, you're saving on transaction fees, but then you have to give the recipient $10 worth of hardware too, which wouldn't be bad for large purchases but doesn't make sense for trades under a few hundred dollars.

Hello,

is there a way to show current active wallet address like with "getaccountaddress """ I sadly wasn't able to find it yet.

If you're running monero-wallet-cli you can just use the "address" command, with monero-wallet-rpc you can use the getaddress RPC call.

What happened with mining wownero on suprnova, no TX code and didn't receive any coin ( see link below )
https://prnt.sc/jb6i13

I think they got off on a fork for a bit due to poor communication with respect to the hardfork on my part. Should be OK now tho.

What is the situation now? I understand that the problem is not fixed and suprnova is in another wrong chain? Or I'm wrong ?

Normally bad number generation is the culpret. I do like testing my computers' random number generator by certain programs before generating any private key-public key pair to at least see the sudo-randomness is still random enough.

What tool do you use to audit randomness?

Hello,

i have some problems with the understanding of new wallet.
It is saying that newest version on github is "lithium luna". It seems like that "lithium luna" is a gui wallet but i am running linux and i always prefer the "daemon" only instead of a guy. I run commands like getinfo getpeerinfo and stuff.
So after compileing the daemon from source, i can start the "monerod" daemon but i am always seeing the infos directly in the terminal. If i try to leave it with "ctrl+c" the daemon is completely stopping. Before i used "daemon=1" in the config but it seems like the new version doenst use "daemon=1" anymore as it was saying unknown command.
Would someone also be so kind to tell me the new command for "getinfo"? I wasn't able to figure this out yet.

Hopefully someone can help me Smiley

You can use the --detach flag to run the daemon in the background. After that you can use monerod <command> to issue commands, like this:

Code:
$ monerod --detach
2018-04-26 16:04:20.224    7fb62616dbc0 INFO global src/daemon/main.cpp:280 Monero 'Lithium Luna' (v0.12.0.0-master-release)
Forking to background...
$ monerod exit
Stop signal sent

Dude you are awesome, thanks!! This is the working command for me "monerod --detach". I invested a lot of time into this and it simply was the "--detach". Thanks again Smiley
Seems like "diff" is similiar to "getinfo" but how can i see my currently wallet address? Do i have to use the monero-wallet-cli/rpc?

Yes, the daemon and the wallet are separate. After you have the daemon running you can use monero-wallet-cli, or the Monero GUI wallet.

I am not running any GUI for linux at all, but maybe this is working: guy wallet "getinfo"? Are the "old" commands still available or completely removed?

I think you're mixing up bitcoind and monerod. I don't think that there's a command with that name for monero (but there is for bitcoind). A similar command for monerod would be "status" or the get_info RPC method.

asic resistant?

Yes it is CryptoNightv7 and asic ressistant,  you should read their recent announcment
https://monerov.org/fork-date-approaching-updates/

It isn't ASIC resistant.

well if you actually read the article it clearly states "+ MoneroV incorporates the new cryptonight algorithm variation for mitigating ASIC mining. MoneroV is not related to any coin and will have its own (decentralized) development path."

soooo it seems that it is ASIC resistant.

Well, if you actually read the article, you'd see that it doesn't say "ASIC resistant" anywhere. It says "mitigating ASIC mining", which is what this PoW update was for. It stopped existing ASICs from mining new blocks, but it doesn't stop anybody making another.

theyre going to use CNv7 same as Monero. https://monerov.org/MoneroV-Roadmap.pdf

Yes, and the new variant of CryptoNight is not ASIC resistant.

Something went wrong ?
On block 6969 network hashrate was 800+KH/s and after decreased to 400KH in 1 hour.

Maybe a pool forgot to update, or maybe it's just the new difficulty adjustment algorithm working.

No Long wallet ?

What is a long wallet?
